Mary AnningWP (メアリー・アニング?), Class Name Lancer (ランサー, Ransā?), is a Lancer-class Servant in the parody work Learn with Manga! FGO. She is summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
She's also known by the name Lightning Mary, the nickname coming from the time when she was struck by lightning as a baby but revived. Mary Anning's birthplace was the rural town of Lyme Regis, located on the Southern coast of England. It is a tiny health resort area whose selling point is its saltwater baths, which were famous for producing fossils. She only had Lyme Regis and its fossils, never knowing another way of life than to sell the fossils she found. No form of extinct life is unknown to her, as she always looked for fossils to carve out a future for herself. The coastline of her hometown of Lyme Regis was her garden and her daily commute to work. She had all of the terrain on her mind, always being able to discover treasures wherever she looked, discovering fossils from the slightest indication. Every single time she led a fossil mining adventure, she discovered something.[2]
Ever since her childhood, she made ends meet by excavating fossils with her family, and she earned a lot of attention by digging up an IchthyosaurusWP fossil at the tender age of 12. Since then, she kept picking up precious fossils for a living and singlehandedly built a market for them among the scholars and aristocrats, causing rumors to spread about the things she did to curry favors from them, along with a personal network. But her moment of fame was quickly swallowed by the stream of time and mostly forgotten. And yet, it never entirely disappeared.[2]
Although she was mostly alone in life, only having her dog to hold her company, Mary is now joined by the PlesiosaurusWP she found the skeleton of.[3] Even if the Plesiosaurus was a long-dead fossil by the time she found him, her life was linked to the creature. Now a Servant, she has a reliable partner in the form of the dinosaur.[2]
Appearance[]
Mary appears as a young woman with long brown hair. Due to her association with dinosaurs, she has orange reptilian eyes and a row of sharp teeth. She always wears a pair of fossilized AmmonoideaWP shells on the sides of her head.
In her first Ascension Mary wears plain clothes, including a white shirt and a red dress. In the second Ascension, she wears a thick blue jacket and matching dress, a yellow scarf and mitts, and carries a wicker basket around her shoulder to carry tools and fossils in. Her clothes become darker in her third Ascension, and she replaced her wicker hat with a top hat and now wears a pair of glasses. The Ammonoids on the side of her head are floating, having returned to life.
Personality[]
To the people of Lyme Regis, Mary was an oddball who acted far too self-important for an inhabitant of the boonies, but to her customers, the elite of society, her ability to find fossils without fail made her a living miracle. She was engaging and clever, flattering but forthright, and a master charmer and conversationalist.[2]
She never got a proper education. Even though she only learned how to write in Sunday School, she could argue on even terms with the elite. This, along with her unabashed personality, led some to speculate that this was the result of the lightning she was hit by as a baby. If they were correct is unkown.[2]

Abilities[]
Mary uses her hammer and chisel, or lance, as her main weapons. Using her hammer, she can shoot bolts of lightning to shock or stun opponents and bring fossils back to life, an ability stemming from the anacdote where she was hit by lightning as a baby.[2] She is fond of using familiars modeled after extinct life to attack her enemies, with her favourite being an IchthyosaurWP, which she wields as a lance.
