Medusa (メドゥーサWP, Medūsa?), Class Name Saber (セイバー, Seibā?), is the Saber-class Servant of Sakura in the System Grail War in the Inner World of Paper Moon in Fate/Grand Order. She is later summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru of the Chaldea Security Organization.
Profile[]
Identity[]
As with all Masters and Servants participating in the System Grail War, Medusa is an Alter Ego of her Rider counterpart devised by Rani XII.
Her destiny was derailed by the despicable curse of the gods, she lost everything she loved, degraded into a monster, and had her head sent flying by an undisputed hero. What she gave birth to in her last moments.[1]
They were Pegasus and Chrysaor. The heavenly steed dancing in the sky and the father of monsters. The one who is forever free and the one who will continue their lineage for eternity. That might have been the wish of her who was left all alone at the end.[1]
To the beloved family that is gone now. I wanted us to be free. I wanted it to last forever. ───One day.[1]
May that freedom and eternity unite us once more.[1]
Appearance[]
Medusa takes a form that looks comparably younger to that of Rider Medusa recorded in Chaldea. While still possessing her trademark Mystic Eyes of Petrification, it seems that she normally seals it using a pair of glasses.[4]
Personality[]
First Ascension[]
Her mentally "young" portion is emphasized and can easily be gauged by observing her reaction to events. She communicates without using any honorifics, she shows a fearless bluntness to those around her. Her stance that she's "doing it because it's her job and there is a contract" remains the same, but in this form, she is more upfront about her discontent and doubts, and the professional-like part from her second and third ascensions is missing.[1]
Conversely, that also makes her feel more true-to-life and easier to get along with. ...However, since she is not very sociable and has extreme and distinct likes and dislikes when it comes to people, she is not the type that can easily establish a relationship with anyone.[1]
The "motherly nature" lurking at her foundation did not change. Even with her brusque attitude, she treasures the sword and the monsters that were born from Chrysaor, and perhaps her Master that became a target of protection from deepening their bond is also included in there too.[1]
Second and Third Ascension[]
She is almost the same as her Rider Saint Graph in personality. She is taciturn and unsociable, and she may appear apathetic and coldhearted, but she is devoted to her Master. She is mostly indifferent to anyone other than her Master, but can show some kindness for those whom she decides that are not enemies.[1]
Due to the Athena factor's influence, she is somewhat dragged along by it, causing the overall direction of her character to be close to otherworldy (a god-like emotionally distant attitude is added to the monster-like emotionally distant attitude).[1]
However, this attitude is a deliberate behavior coming from Medusa herself. Medusa is self-conscious about the fact that if she lets her guard down, her "careless" and "sentimental" inner self will become apparent even in her speech and conduct so she restrains her emotions. The reason for that inner self is also Athena. Since Athena's stench is coming from within her, she can fervently feel her "origin" and "conclusion" which irritates her a lot. In other words, she is younger emotionally as well physically, being smaller than her Rider Saint Graph.[1]
Sometimes she shows a "motherly nature" when it comes to the golden sword. This motherly nature will reveal itself in her interactions with her Master if their relationship grows (although Medusa herself is unaware of it).[1]
Relationships[]
First Ascension[]
- Medusa (Child)
- "I know it's weird coming from me, but isn't my Lancer version just way too good of a kid? I don't think there would be any problem if she were a bit more mischievous."[2][3]
- Medusa
- "My Rider version...yes, if he's with you, I'll leave Pegasus in your care. In exchange, Chrysaor will stay with me. ...I wonder if something like this could also be called shared childcare."[2][3]
- Stheno and Euryale
- "Ugh...Sisters...so you were here. No, not really, these clothes just came in a modern style without any input on my side. I'm not trying to steal a march on you fashion-wise and stand out at all."[2][3]
- Parvati
- "That's...Parvati. ...I-it's not like I was looking at her because I wanted to be friends. It's just...I couldn't take my eyes off her for some reason."[2][3]
- Caenis
- "When I'm with Caenis, I lose track of time. There is no end to it when it comes to badmouthing Poseidon, after all."[2][3]
- Britomart
- "Was that child's name Britomart, I wonder. She was staring at my sword with great interest, saying she was using the blade her father made,[Note 1] but...I have no idea just how any of that is related. In any case, it does not seem to be any descendant of mine."[2][3]
- Suzuka Gozen
- "Having girls' talk with Suzuka...? ...We did no such thing. I said we didn't do it so we didn't do it. What you saw in the cafeteria was probably...umm, an illusion!"[2][3]
Second and Third Ascension[]
- Medusa (Child)
- "I am sure you are aware of it, but that is something extremely dangerous. Make sure you handle it very carefully, small me."[2][3]
- Medusa
- "She is my version who is together with Pegasus, isn't she. I admit she is more mature than me, but please understand that this does not mean I am inferior to her."'[2][3]
- Stheno and Euryale
- "E...elder older sister, younger older sister...you're mistaken, I am not trying to act cool here. I did not put on equipment resembling that of Athena by my own will either!"[2][3]
- Odysseus
- "I have heard your tale. All I can say is that you were in the wrong for approaching Scylla's dwelling, Odysseus. You reap what you sow."[2][3]
- Heracles
- "GeryonWP should be Chrysaor's child, but... Heracles...you killed him, didn't you...? " (2nd and 3rd Ascension)[2][3]
- Circe
- "Circe? Didn't you think you did something uncalled for to Scylla...?" (2nd and 3rd Ascension)[2][3]
- Leonidas I
- "My shield is not something I planned to equip myself with. Therefore, as expected, I fall behind Leonidas in terms of skill. I do not intend to specialize in defense to his extent, but if the opportunity presents itself, it would not hurt to steal his way of handling a shield."[2][3]

Abilities[]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (A Rank): No Information Available.
- Riding (A Rank): She can handle any monster or vehicle as she wishes, with the exception of Phantasmal and Divine Beasts. It should be noted that this Saber-class version does not possess the Bridle of Chivalry.[1]
- Divinity (D- Rank): No Information Available.
Personal Skills[]
- Breaker Gorgon (B Rank): Breaker Gorgon. Her original Noble Phantasm. A barrier that shows nightmares and is of the "sealing" orientation. It can also be used as a fetter that seals away her Mystic Eyes. In place of her Rider-class version's blindfold, it has been deployed as a pair of sunglasses or as the visor portion of a helmet for Saber Medusa.[1]
- Demonic Blood Vessels (A Rank): No Information Available.
- Factor Predation (War Goddess) (EX Rank): This version of Medusa possesses a shield, helmet, and armor reminiscent of the Goddess of War. Although the details are unsure, according to Chaldea's analysis - similar to how there is a Medusa of a different class possessing the immortal-killing scythe - this may be the result of some ability to incorporate "elements similar to their cause of death".[1]
Noble Phantasm[]
Medusa's Noble Phantasm is Chrysaor. It is the name of the being that emerged from the dead Medusa's blood, grasping a golden sword from his birth───the "Father of Monsters" who became the ancestor of countless Demonic Beasts. Upon releasing the True Name of the golden sword in which that power resides - or what may be the power "itself - even the slashes will be imbued with the attribute of the "Father of Monsters". In other words, the true value of this sword is "a slash that births monsters" or "a slash that is a monster".[1]
With each swing, monsters shaped by a golden light (e.g. Echidna, Cerberus) are spawned from the sword, which - like creatures fathered by the golden sword - obediently listen to commands; or perhaps they just autonomously attack the enemy. These golden monsters will dissipate over time, but since they are also sword flashes, it is possible for them to turn back into golden magical slashes at any time.[1]

Medusa was designed by hotosoka in Fate/Grand Order.
Notes[]
- ↑ The blade of Artegall in The Faerie QueeneWP is the golden sword, "Chrysaor".
