The MinamotoWP (源?) clan, also known as the Genji (源氏?), is a Japanese clan that was active in the Heian period, protectors of the capital Heian-kyo.[1] It is one of the cadet branches of the Imperial House of JapanWP.

Characteristics[]

Raiko 1

Minamoto-no-Raikou is a famous warrior of the Minamoto clan.

As one of the most notable clans in Japan, various others are descended from them, including the Akechi and the Tokugawa, creating a lineage spanning until the modern day with their influence being used as a political tool throughout history. While a historical clan featuring heavily in the Zenkunen WarWP, Gosannen WarWP, Hōgen rebellionWP, Heiji rebellionWP and Genpei WarWP throughout their history many fantastical events and legends are attributed to various members, including divine heritage, legendary weapons (such as Settsu Armor Kumano, Doujigiri Yasutsuna, Usumidori and the Higekiri[2][3]), mystical training and various inhuman feats. According to Sakata Kintoki, the Minamoto clan's sworn duty is protection of the human world.[2] The Genji deposed the Taira clan and established the Kamakura shogunate.[4] Takeda Shingen’s armor the Shieldless is the Kai Genji’s greatest treasure passed down from Shinra Saburō Yoshimitsu.[5] Ibaraki-douji hates the Minamoto clan as a whole and would kill them all if they showed their face.[6] White is the color of the Genji's banner. [7]

The Ogasawara clan is long renowned for establishing the famous Ogasawara-ryu school of etiquette for samurai families, this respected clan holds governance over Shinano. Because Miyamoto Musashi had been a close friend to the family, they sought to take his adopted son Miyamoto Iori into their service.[8]

The Genji took part in the Hougen Rebellion where the clan was split. Tametomo and his father Tameyoshi sided with the retired emperor while his older brother Yoshitomo and the leader of the Taira clan Taira-no-Kiyomori sided with the current emperor. Yoshitomo set the retired emperor’s palace on fire and the current emperor won the war.

The TairaWP clan (also a cadet branch of the Imperial Family) were the Minamoto's enemies in the Genpei War. Taira-no-Kagekiyo has an advantage against Minamoto clan members and retainers, represented by her Genji, Prithee Die Skill. However, Taira-no-Kiyomori was also the one who kept Ushiwakamaru alive because she was living proof that the Taira clan defeated the Minamoto clan.[9]

    Doujigiri Yasutsuna
...To execute the punishment of heaven.

This weapon was made for that purpose.
It needs no history, nor anything else.

    Yes. Yes.
That's right, yes. I'm impressed you could tell. As the leader of the Genji family, this was my peerless companion, but as a mother, I don't need it...

Why don't you talk to your mother some more, instead of worrying about this?
Oh, but first, it's gotten late, so I need to get some snacks ready, don't I?

    I know!
Why don't we have Kintoki join us? I'm sure he'd love it.
Don't you think? Hehe, yes, I'm sure...

    Doujigiri Yasutsuna.
A longsword known as one of the Five Great Swords of Japan.

It's also said to be the blade which slew Shuten-Douji, but if nothing else, the Minamoto-no-Raikou that was summoned to Chaldea doesn't talk about what happened on Mt.Ooe.
It's possible that one of the other Four Heavenly Kings defeated Douji instead...
