Morgan le FayWP (モルガン・ル・フェイWP, Mōgan ru Fei?), Class Name Ruler (ルーラー, Rūrā?), is the Ruler-class Servant of Beryl Gut in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Morgan was the older sister of King Arthur and mother of Gawain, Agravain, Gaheris, Gareth and Mordred. In the ancient history of British Fairies, she was said to be the "Good Fairy of the Lake," but after compilation of Arthurian legends, she became regarded as a wicked woman who opposed King Arthur. On the other hand, she is identified with Vivian, the fairy who endowed King Arthur with the holy sword and protected him after his death.[4]
She was a fairy of the lake and the evil polar opposite of Vivian, the Lady of the Lake,[6] a "Great Mother" class fairy born from the inner sea of the planet. It is thought that Morgan inherited Vivian's authority,[7] but in truth Vivian is an alternate good personality of Morgan's who Morgan developed as a way to cope with the conflicting roles given to her by her supernatural birth.[5]
Morgan was the daughter of TintagelWP, birthed by Igraine, the Child of Fairies from the British Isles... Later, she and Artoria became proper sisters (Morgan's mother, Igraine, married King Uther).[4] At least, that is what the legend says. However the truth is that Morgan was not born until after Igraine and Uther were married, and she is the true blood daughter of Uther as well. What's more, she was not a human but the spawn of the island of Britain itself, just as Vortigern was. Morgan kept this a secret and was raised as a human, and she would have inherited the throne from Uther—until Artoria was born.[5]
In the end, Artoria is but a "human king" created by the humans. Morgan, aware that she was the "True King" inheriting the mysteries of the British Isles, eventually came to hate her father King Uther, her sister Artoria, and humans who disobeyed her, and played a major role in the collapse of Britain.[4]
The king chosen to be the King of Britain was bestowed with a mysterious power, a black primeval cursed energy native to Britain,[8] but its power had waned. Uther was said to be the last of its keepers, which is why he came up with his plan to sire Artoria, a manmade child of a human and a dragon. To everybody's surprise however Morgan inherited the primeval black power, and so she was considered the "owner" of Britain and a greater “King of the Island” than King Arthur.[9] She had heard the will of the island and believed the throne of Britain was hers by right.[10] Morgan was recognized as the proper daughter of King Uther, but despite inheriting the power was not chosen to succeed him as king. Although the older sister and of the same status, Artoria received the love and hopes of their father in Morgan's eyes, driving her to eventually become a witch queen who craved for vengeance for the rest of her days.
Morgan laid a trap that, due to a certain someone's womanizing, caused Artoria to lose Caliburn. However Artoria would later go on to replace it with Excalibur, which she received from Vivian.[11]
According to legends, at some point she attempted to seduce Lancelot.[5]
Her children were Gawain, Gaheris, Gareth, and Agravain, whom she had with King LotWP of OrkneyWP.[4] All of them would become Knights of the Round Table, though Agravain was sent by her as an assassin.[9] Once Camelot was built, she went into seclusion and was not heard of much by the knights.[11]
Morgan enchanted Artoria with a spell to extract sperm from her, and Morgan developed it within her own ovary, making the child into a homunculus-like clone of Artoria (via Merlin’s magic). Mordred was soon born and aged rapidly, and Morgan raised her in secret while telling her of her right to the throne. She told Mordred to never remove her helmet and recommended her to the Round Table. She directed Mordred to hide her status and obey the King until she could defeat Artoria and take her place. While Mordred was initially idealistic and served as a proper knight, Morgan shattered her innocence with the truth of her birth to guide her towards the path of rebellion.[12]
Morgan's machinations were also responsible for Artoria losing her scabbard, Avalon, which was even more valuable to her than Excalibur as it prevented her from taking any damage. This loss was the catalyst that led to Artoria's death,[13] which would come when Mordred rebelled against Artoria and they killed each other in the Battle of Camlann.
Despite her hatred of Artoria, according to legend Morgan was one of the fairies who arrived to carry King Arthur's body to Avalon upon her death.[14] At some point after Artoria's death, Morgan created Add to serve as a seal on the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad that would keep its Mystery from fading. She based the artificial personality within it on Kay, the knight with the least adoration for King Arthur from the Round Table. That trick seemed more like a plot to “prevent the return of King Arthur” at that time. It was like a strange trick to say “I’ll help with your revival, but I don’t want it to succeed.”[15]
Several centuries later Morgan became an enemy of the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne.[16]
Appearance[]
Morgan is a young woman with long blonde hair coupled by a crown and a veil covering her face. She seemingly wore a black dress that exposes her navel and abdomen. As a Ruler, her appearance is depicted as a silhouette of her Lostbelt counterpart's 3rd ascension.[17]
Personality[]
Morgan is lecherous, cruel, and selfish, a true model of vice.[4] A woman who cannot live without cursing others.[16] She believes that Britain rightfully belongs to her because she wields the primeval black curse.[10] Morgan greatly hates her sister and possesses a great obsession for Mordred to take the throne from her.
She changed greatly throughout her life from a "fine lady" to a "frightening thing" according to Kay, and he describes it as if she had three women inside of her. Having started with the "innocence of a fairy", she became "as magnificent as a warrior maiden", and "then suddenly possessed the brutality of a witch." Kay believes she may have had similar burdening circumstances as Artoria due to their parentage.[11]
One of these three personalities is known as Vivian. Morgan developed these three personalities as a way to reconcile the three roles enforced on her by her supernatural birth: Morgan the human, Artoria's caring sister; Vivian the fairy, the Lady of the Lake; and Morgan le Fay (or Fata Morgana),[1] the embodiment of Britain and holder of its Mystery.[5]
Artoria considers Morgan not only her sister, but also like a mother to her and a reflection of herself. Artoria also says Morgan has a more kingly disposition than her, and was more loved by Britain than her.[16]
Morgan was never able to find a place she belonged. She was born as Britain's chosen heir, but lost that role to King Arthur. For Morgan, Britain was everything, and without it, she herself was worthless. When the humans kicked her out of Britain, Morgan herself lost her worth.[18]
Role[]
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files[]
Morgan Le Fay's old weapon Erosion becomes a central point for the plot of Atlas Contract Incident. She instructed Gray's village on how to use it until the time when King Arthur would return. The blade itself possesses the ability to separate the mind and soul from the flesh. It was intended to separate Gray’s mind and soul from her body, allowing the spirit of King Arthur to inhabit her body in the final stages of the ritual.[19]
Waver Velvet speculates that Morgan was the one who established the ritual to bring back King Arthur from the dead. She traveled to Wales where Blackmore Cemetery was and built the village to take care of the ritual after she was gone. Waver even thinks the statue of the "Black MadonnaWP" (黒い聖母, Kuroi Seibo?) worshipped in the village is modeled after her. However, that was long ago and she's gone so he also says he can't even begin to comprehend her motives in doing so (the whydunnit).[14]
He theorizes that all the contradiction in the stories about her are because the name "Morgan Le Fay" spread through Europe and became a placeholder name that assimilated many legends of fairies, witches and earth goddesses, just like the ones assimilated into Black Madonnas and the many Christian Saints that were born through the same process of assimilation. Waver mentions the theory that Morgan and the Celtic goddess of death The MorriganWP were once one and the same and either Morgan derived from her or her legends were assimilated. It’s also mentioned how there is a contradiction in the legends about how Morgan planned a coup d’état against Arthur but, when they died, Morgan was one of the fairies that carried their body to Avalon promising the return of the once and future king.[14]
When Gray and Waver ask Kay about if the Morgan he knew would establish such a thing as the ritual of Gray's village after having tried a coup d’état against Arthur, and if the legends about Morgan being one of the fairies who carried King Arthur's body to Avalon are true, his answer is that he doesn't know because he was already dead at the time but he never got to understand her, leaving Waver's theories unconfirmed.[14]
Fate/Apocrypha[]
Mordred mentions that Semiramis, an evil schemer, possesses the same "smell" as Morgan.[20] Kairi Sisigou has dreams of Mordred's past showing how Morgan encouraged her to join the Knights of the Round Table, and later revealed to Mordred that she was King Arthur's son and encouraged her to turn against Arthur.[21]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Interlude: It Begins With Loss[]
At the end of Tristan's Interlude, Artoria suspects that Morgan was the one behind its events.[22]
Lostbelt No. 6: Avalon le Fae[]
Morgan was summoned as a Ruler-class Servant by Beryl Gut when he first arrived in the British Lostbelt. Morgan was heartbroken when she saw the desolate wasteland of the Lostbelt, seeing what had become of her beloved Britain. She decided to go back in time to fix it, to create her perfect kingdom that was the Britain she felt she deserved. Within hours of being summoned, while Beryl was asleep, Morgan figured out what Lostbelts were, what Chaldea was for, and how Rayshifting worked. She used Rayshifting to send her memories and knowledge to her Lostbelt self thousands of years in the past. Because Rayshifting without a Coffin can only send information and not physical matter, Ruler Morgan died when she did this.[25]
Other appearances[]
Morgan makes a brief appearance in the manga version of Fate/stay night.[26]
In Garden of Avalon, Morgan is mentioned in Kay's and Lancelot's stories. Lancelot says that she resented her younger sister for receiving all her father's hopes and affection, becoming a witch queen that sought vengeance all her life.[9][11]
Morgan is reflected in the form of Excalibur should the user become tainted with evil, becoming Excalibur Morgan.[6]
In Fate/Grand Order, Gaius Julius Caesar's profile mentions legends of Caesar having a child with a fairy,[27] referring to how in some stories Oberon is the son of Caesar and Morgan le Fay.
Abilities[]
Morgan is a Human-Fairy Hybrid.[7][5] Although her father was believed to be the Duke of Tintagel,[5] her mother was actually impregnated by the British isles themselves.[1] Just like Vortigern, she was an offspring of Britain.[5] Due to this, she inherited the supernatural power that was thought to have died with Uther Pendragon.[9] The black-stained Magical Energy used by Artoria Pendragon Alter's Excalibur is reminiscent of the Cursed Energy that lurks in Britain and Morgan inherited.[8] Furthermore, Morgan is an A-Ray, a fairy equivalent to a Divided Spirit of the Earth's Soul and comparable to personified nature gods in scope.[7] Even after Morgan's mother married Uther, she still kept her nature as the avatar of Britain a secret. It wasn't until Artoria was named the true King that she started attacking Camelot at every opportunity she had.[5] However, while Morgan was undoubtedly a ruler that possessed great power, she was but a small pebble in King Arthur's path.[9]
As a Servant, Morgan qualifies for the Ruler class.[17]
Magecraft[]
Vivian, Morgan's alternate personality, was taught Magecraft by Merlin.[5] Eventually, Morgan became as powerful a Magus as him.[20]
Morgan has displayed the following uses of Magecraft:
- Rayshifting: Morgan can Rayshift things without a Coffin, something not even Chaldea could pull off.[24] When Morgan was summoned by Beryl Gut, she grasped both what had taken place in the British Lostbelt's history, and the mechanisms of Chaldea's summoning system.[25] She deciphered the secrets of Rayshifting, and used them herself.[23][25] Information is the only thing which can be Rayshifted. Due to this, one must first use a Coffin to transform their body into Pseudo-Spiritrons, pure information, to Rayshift a living person to a Singularity. Impressive though this theory of Magecraft is, it is only made possible by Singularities existing outside normal space-time. Normally, even a Servant would disperse as soon as they Rayshifted anywhere that wasn't a Singularity. But Morgan was able to ignore this by sending her memories to her Lostbelt self.[25]
- Garden: Morgan has the Garden, a Spell from the Age of Gods that can only be used by her, the avatar of Mystery.[5] It is also the artifact where she sealed Merlin.[5][24] According to Sherlock Holmes, it is a great Bounded Field in the form of a sarcophagus Spell inscribed with the words "Only those free of sin may pass".[5]
- Homunculus: Morgan was able to enchant Artoria Pendragon and steal her sperm to impregnate herself, creating a homunculus clone: Mordred.[5]
- Erosion: A Mystic Code in the form of a golden dagger, which under the guise of a golden blade used to cut mistletoe, has the ability to sever the mind and Soul from the body, as well as allow the user to slip someone else into the body, spirit, and soul of its victim.[19][28] When used for sacrifices, Morgan was said to have used this dagger to direct the sacrifice’s heart. According to legend it can also turn into a sword or a scythe.[28]
Development[]
Kinoko Nasu had originally planned on using Proper Human History Morgan in Fate/Grand Order, but the art which Takashi Takeuchi presented to him didn't match the kind of personality that Proper Human History Morgan had. “You’re telling me…this aloof beauty is that debauched, sly, scheming witch…?” And so Nasu decided to come up with Lostbelt Morgan, and conceptualized how the story would change with her as the ruler of Fairy Britain instead.[29]
Morgan's appearance in the Fate/Apocrypha anime was based on Takeuchi's first draft design for her in Fate/Grand Order. Her face was covered with a veil because they didn't want her design to be too memorable yet in case they revised it, but the veil later influenced Lostbelt Morgan's Winter Queen costume.[1]

Blackening of Servants, p.038 [T]Blackening of Servants
The black mud in the Holy Grail contaminates the souls of those who touch it. It goes without saying for mere humans, and supernatural beings like Servants are no exception to this either. The contaminated person's personality reverses toward the orientation of evil. This is madness caused by touching Angra Mainyu. This is called "blackening". There are those who can use the black mud as part of their own power thanks to the properties of its contamination and those whose powerful egos have stayed back its mental pollution.
An example of the former is Matou Sakura and the latter is Gilgamesh. The blackened Servant is incarnated by the power of the Grail so the more concrete ties to the physical plane turns them into powerful beings.
Their physical interference power increases but at the same time they lose the ability to return to spirit form.
Also, as they no longer bother to restrain their magic energy consumption, their fighting ability jumps significantly. This momentum can be compared to a runaway train.
Because they are in that state, fine control is not possible, but in exchange, their destructive power increases.
They are fearful beings inflicting havoc and death upon the world. These are blackened Servants.

Noble Phantasm: A++
Saber Alternative, or Black Saber, is the name given to Artoria when she fell to Hassan, was consumed by the dark shadow, and obtained true incarnation during the "Heaven's Feel" route.
Artoria, now jet-black, could now invoke Excalibur without limit thanks to the enormous prana supply from the blackened Sakura. Thus, she could overwhelm Berserker Heracles even in a direct battle. Now unfettered and in a sense more powerful than she was in life, none can deny that she is the strongest Servant.
Class Abilities
Magic Resistance: B
Lower than original value due to the corruption. Still high, as it nullifies spells at B rank (activated within three counts) or lower, and it is difficult to harm her even with high thaumaturgy.
Riding: -
In the maddened state while blackened, the loss of fine control makes it impossible to ride beasts; rather, the mount cannot withstand it. Therefore, in reality one can consider the Riding ability lost.
Personal Skills
Instinct: B
Constant self-control is required to maintain Saber's reason while blackened. To focus on suppressing her madness, her surroundings are neglected and Instinct is dulled.
Power Burst: A
Saber's body is always suffused in the energy supplied by the Greater Grail. Her armor is also reinforced, granting more defensive ability than in her original state.
Charisma: E
The magnificent king's charm which once inspired and captivated her soldiers is gone. Since she rules by terror, leadership ability is improved but troops' morale is extremely low.
Noble Phantasms
Sword of Promised Victory -- Excalibur
Rank: A++
Type: Anti-fortress Noble Phantasm
Range: 1-99
Maximum targets: 1000 persons
Even while blackened, Artoria's greatest power Excalibur is still potent. However, the sword is tainted an ominous black. Just as the fairies of the lake (Vivienne and Morgan) manifest as both good and evil, the holy sword has its own dark side. Still, its "character" as a holy sword is greatest. The function of converting the wielder's magical energy into light through the blade does not change, but the light is transformed into the same darkness of the blade. - ↑ 7.0 7.1 7.2 7.3 Fate/Grand Order: Cosmos in the Lostbelt - Avalon le Fae: The Moment a Planet is Born, Section 4: Gloucester (I)

Introduction - Mordred
"You must never remove that helmet."
The child of Artoria's sister, Morgan.
A masked knight that came to Camelot with only the recommendation of Morgan and by presenting his awesome swordsmanship became one of the knights of the round table. He was given his sword despite his unknown origins because of his abilities and his straightforward mental chivalry.
In Fate, actually a clone created by Morgan from Artoria. A homunculus, but also a rather complete son of Artoria. Morgan used sorcery to enchant Artoria, who had become a pseudo male, extracted sperm and developed it in her own ovary.
"My son, you have the right to inherit the throne, but for now, hide your status and obey the King. And one day....you will defeat the King and take his place." He bore that obsession of his mother, but before that ambition, was Mordred's adoration of King Arthur.
Being a homunculus, his speed of growth was faster than a human being, and his life span far shorter. Feeling shame at his twisted birth, he was unconsciously jealous of normal people and due to the special innocence that children have, worshiped King Arthur, the "perfect king".
While hiding his dislike of others, he protected the way of the knights in such a way that could only be found in picture books and worked hard daily in being the ideal knight.
But, even that innocence was shattered by Morgan.
Not having the slightest feelings of rebellion on him, he was spurred on by Morgan who told him the truth of his birth.
That Mordred was a child born between Artoria and Morgan.
That King Arthur didn't know that Mordred was his own child and that even if he did, he would never accept such a filthy child.
While shocked by this, he was at the same time wrapped in joy.
Despite not being a proper human, he was a child having the same blood as the King. No, as the son of a king that was superior, he should be proud of the fact that he was not human. In name, reality, mind, and body, he was fit to be the successor of the King.
Mordred approached the King with delight. This was because to Mordred, who had no father, King Arthur was the very form of godlike "father".
However, Artoria rejected Mordred very clearly.
"I see. Even if you were born my sister's plotting, you were certainly born from me. However, I will not recognize you as my son nor will I give you the throne."
Arthur hated his sister Morgan. How could the son of that person be accepted.
"It makes sense.... I finally understand why my title was the weakest."
Despite how hard he tries. Even if he excels over anyone, the moment he was born from Morgan, the King would look down on him as a forever as a dirtied child.
Because of the love he had up until then had been so great, the hate of the rejected Mordred burned.
As a result, the distrust of the Round Table towards King Arthur spread and the reigns of power of Camelot were seized once Arthur departed for the Rome expedition.
He would become the leader of the rebellion representing the national discontent towards King Arthur, after finally returning after a long and tiresome battle.
Mordred raged, claiming that he hated King Arthur, that he was fit for the throne, but the truth was that he only wanted to be accepted by Artoria. He only wanted to be called "son" by the King.
The final fight.
With both armies dying, the two faced each other on a hill of swords.
"Look around you King Arthur. Your country has ended. Which ever one of us emerges the victor, it matters not. As you see before you, everything is gone. You should have known it would come to this. Had you given to me the crown, this would not have happened. Did you hate me, the son of Morgan, that much?!"
King Arthur emotionlessly replied back.
"Not once did I despise you.
There was only one reason I would not give you the throne.
You didn't have the capacity of a King."
Mordred ran forward, driven on by passion.
Defeated in single combat, Mordred collapsed while still impaled by a spear.
"Never remove it before other people."
Freed from that mask his mother forced on him, and with a face identical to Artoria exposed, he said,
"....Fa-ther,"
He reached out to touch the King with his blood-soaked hands at least once, but not even that wish was granted as he fell. - ↑

Avalon, the Everdistant Utopia. The name of Excalibur’s sheathe, which also holds power as a Noble Phantasm. Aside from healing the user’s wounds and halting their aging, it also turns into a perfect fortress that protects against all physical interference when activated. Even in Arthurian legend, Excalibur’s sheathe is a “magic sheathe”. After Arthur received Excalibur from the fairy of the lake, he was approached by the wizard Merlin, who bequeathed upon him an enchanted sheathe. It is said that as long as he possessed this sheathe, he would not spill so much as a drop of his own blood. As such, it was even more valuable than Excalibur, and its loss to the machinations of his half-sister Morgan Le Faye is connected to King Arthur’s death.エクスカリバーの鞘

The Mystic Code sealing the Noble Phantasm Rhongomyniad, possessed by Gray.
Created by the Witch Morgan, she based the artificial personality within it on the knight with the least adoration for King Arthur from the Round Table. Thinking about the Atlas Contract Incident, that trick seemed more like a plot to “prevent the return of King Arthur” at that time. It was like a strange trick to say “I’ll help with your revival, but I don’t want it to succeed.”
Before being created, its true form was that of the Logos React Replica. Using the extreme calculative ability inherited from the Seven Superweapons of the Atlas Institute, it continues to seal Rhongomyniad within it. In its released form, it can of course take the shape of a scythe, but also that of a hammer, shield, hook spear, or even a boomerang. It is also able to use its immense calculative ability to display a portion of the power of Rhongomyniad itself. The appearance of the knight in “The Atlas Contract” occurred due to the same theoretical principle. Their personality was a result of a complex merger of that original knight’s and the present day Add’s, so strictly speaking it belonged to neither of them. That was likely why it was able to finally deploy the Pseudo Phantasm.
For Gray, Add was her only friend for a long time.
The name Add comes both from the word “addition” and from the tail end of the word “Rhongomyniad.”アッド【礼装/そのほか】
