Nagao Kagetora (長尾景虎?), Class Name Lancer of Eight Flowers (八華のランサー, Hakka no Ransā?), is the Lancer-class Servant summoned by Satsuki Yumizuka in the Imperial Capital Holy Grail Strange Story Memoirs of Koha-Ace. She is also summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Better known as Uesugi KenshinWP (上杉謙信?). Praised as a peerless warrior in Japan when it comes to battles, the Sengoku Daimyo of Echigo later known as the God of War, Nagao Kagetora. A self-proclaimed avatar of Bishamonten who fought all their lives with righteousness, in the turmoil of the Warring States.
"One does not bear arms for personal gain. When you are in the right, all shall aid in your cause!"
Uniting the nation of Echigo plagued by continuous internal strife, and dispatched her army countless times after receiving aid from other nations. As such, innumerable battles unfolded between her and the likes of Takeda or Hōjō. Constantly standing at the forefront of the battlefield, she has lost not even a single clash in her career spanning more than 70 battles, leading her army with her overwhelming charisma and tactical genius.
Having changed names multiple times, she went variously as Nagao Kagetora, Uesugi Masatora, and finally took on the name of Uesugi Kenshin. The most famous name of all, Kenshin, is actually a Buddhist dharma name from his later life.
"Eh? The name Kenshin is more famous than Kagetora!?"
Kagetora was constantly troubled. On the battlefield, well, which would be better between a sword and a spear, which weapon would be the best … Guns? Can't aim those so it'd be impossible. And then on a certain day, she encountered an inhuman figure of Bishamonten wielding eight swords, the "Eight-bladed Bishamonten", and a revelation dawned upon her. And as such, she realized everything would be solved by simply bringing both sword and spear!
The next day, brandishing the eight weapons known as the armament of the eightfold blossom, was the figure of the God of War from Echigo, wreaking havoc energetically. Thus, the strongest invincible Warring States general "Full Armor Kagetora-chan" was born.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
"Fortune to the heavens, Armour upon my chest, Feats from my steps!" As a self-proclaimed Avatar of Bishamonten, Kagetora has tried to protect people under the human rationality outlined as "righteousness". Nonetheless, having been born with excessive strength as a person herself, Kagetora during her lifetime has never managed to comprehend the exceedingly frail entities known as humans.
Without understanding human emotions like sadness or anger in the slightest, Kagetora wears a smile as her only compromise with her surroundings. As the recipients of her unapproachable behavior and words, Kagetora's retainers fear her, yet that fear morphed and took form as fanatical faith. And as a result, an even more inhuman way of life, reminiscent of gods and buddhas, has been forced upon Kagetora.
To that Kagetora, the brief scenes of life and death interspersed among the lethal conflicts she took part in, were the only times she felt human at all.
After having lived her life so detached from the mundane, she attained her divine seat as the God of War, and was venerated accordingly. By now, there would be no way of ascertaining whether that had been her intention.
—— Bishamonten is here.
Relationships[]
- Usami Sadamitsu
- The Strategist Usamin, Kagetora’s right-hand man. A worldly-wise man who administered Echigo and cleverly managed the war-obsessed Kagetora. When he was boating on his day off, he fell into the lake and drowned. As one would expect, even Kagetora was Bisha-greatly surprised by this.[1]
- Hashiba Hideyoshi
- “I’m at least aware of that name. Castle sieges seem to be his specialty, right? Thanks, but no thanks; I’m not interested in such troublesome battles.”[1]
- Takeda Shingen
- Kagetora’s traditional rival; the only one who could fight on equal footing with her in her lifetime. It appears Kagetora one-sidedly believes such a thing, but from the way it seems to this Shingen, Kagetora was an immense annoyance to him. After all, the reason is that, since she is not doing battle to make gains and advantages, Shingen could not predict the battle’s progress. Help him, Kansuke.
- Nonetheless, Shingen has a high opinion of Kagetora as well, to the extent that he left these words to his son: “After my death, rely on Terutora (one of Kagetora’s names in her later years), because she will not betray you.”[1]
“Takeda Harunobu? Let's see... The only one who had any chance of killing me was Harunobu. And frankly speaking, fighting against his army would make my heart race with excitement. ...Though, what should I do about that deal-breaker? To put it into modern speak, Bishamonten is salty, too. Very salty.”[3]
- Houjou Ujiyasu
- “Damn you, Odawara Castle; by no means can I, Kagetora, lose to that… Huh? It fell to Nobunaga’s former retainer? Ahahahahaha! That’s a lie, right?!”[1]
- Oda Nobunaga (Archer)
- "Oda Nobunaga from Owari... I did receive numerous letters full of flattery, but I found them all suspicious. Yet, I have to say that the strategies employed at Okehazama and Nagashino were impressive. Either way, I have no intention of losing should we fight. Absolutely not."[3]
- During their lifetime, Nobbu felt afraid of Kagetora and gave her a lot of things such as gifts and letters. But they were unable to cooperate because their foundations are fatally in conflict with each other.[1]
- Demon King Nobunaga
- "Demon King Nobunaga... Someone like you is truly the definition of a destroyer who fears neither gods nor Buddhas. Do not worry. No matter how powerful you become, I can always kill you."[3]
- Shibata Katsuie
- “There was a time when I fought him at Tedorigawa. Well, I gave him a severe beating.”[1]
- Akechi Mitsuhide
- “I’m at least aware of that name. Guns are his specialty, right? Well, those can’t hit me though.”[1]
- Mori Nagayoshi
- "Ah, the brat from the Mori clan's here too. ...What is with that face? Want me to hurt you again?"[3]
- Ushiwakamaru / Ushiwakamaru (Swimsuit)
- "When it comes to military tactics, Lord Yoshitsune comes to mind! Eh? Lord Yoshitsune's here? Right here? What luck! Would you show me your famous downhill attack at Hiyodorigoe? If anything, I would love to join you."[3]
- Chacha
- "Chacha, huh? I hear that her husband, Lord Hashiba, managed to unify Japan after my, Harunobu, and even Nobunaga's death. I never met the man, but he must have been a highly virtuous general if he was able to make peace in that age of war. Eh? He was a womanizer and far from virtuous? Huh...and in his final years, his recklessness caused a great mess that created a lot of suffering? Th-that is...troubling..."[3]
- Okita Souji
- "I see Okita Souji over there. The valor she displayed on the battlefield back then was truly impressive. The way her sword cuts people down without hesitation and her apparent fathomless prowess... I now understand why I'm considered to be her mirror image."[3]
- Okita Souji Alter
- "Why, if it isn't Ms. Majin. Your recent aid of a certain individual was something that will leave me, Kagetora, in your debt for the rest of my life. Oh, Heroic Spirits are already dead, so saying the rest of my life would be strange, huh? Well, let's say I owe you for the rest of this current life, then. Eh? Forget about debt and just give you oden? Then let's raise a cup together tonight. Eh? You don't drink? Then I'll take your share."[3]
- Gilgamesh
- "Why do I carry around so many weapons? Trying to figure out what I should bring when I head out is such a pain... I mean, it's so I have the best equipment for any situation... Eh? So I should just throw around a bunch of weapons like that golden king? Well, I'm not so keen on that since projectiles can miss. It's just not the same if you don't hold the weapons in your hands when you hit things. You know, crack, bang, boom."[3]
- Artoria Pendragon (Lancer)
- "So the one on that white horse is Altria... She certainly has a captivating warrior's stance. And that white horse looks to be on par with my Houshou Tsukige. She must be a formidable Rider...eh? Lancer? ...Should we go up and protest at the Throne of Heroes together?"[3]
- Iskandar
- "So that is the King of Conquerors, Iskandar. The warhorse he's mounted on also has a splendid coat. He's sure to be a powerful Rider...I mean, Lancer. Yep. Now I understand that people aren't necessarily Riders just because they have mounts... Eh? He's a Rider? ...It just doesn't make any sense."[3]

Destroy All Nobunagas: GUDAGUDA Final Honnōji 2019[]
Kagetora appears in the fourth GUDAGUDA event. She initially presents herself as Otora. She becomes allies with Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight as they fight against each Nobunaga faction, adding more servants as they win against other factions.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]
Yamataikoku[]
GUDAGUDA Super Goryōkaku[]
Other appearances[]
In Fate/type Redline she and Toyotomi Hideyoshi cameo when Tsukumo Fujimiya explains the Holy Grail War.[14]
Abilities[]
Being the avatar of Bishamonten, Nagao Kagetora is known far and wide as the strongest general in the Warring States period.[4][12] Oda Nobunaga states that Kagetora is crazy strong. Demon King Nobunaga also states that Kagetora does herself a disservice by describing herself as merely the avatar of Bishamonten. She claims that there is something far greater than Bishamonten in her. Something both human and inhuman, something deviant from Humanity itself.[10] Kenshin states that Takeda Harunobu is the only man that can contend with her face to face.[15] She later says that the only one who had any chance of killing her is him.[3]
Combat[]
Kagetora's main armaments are eight weapons called the Provision of the Eight Flowers.[1] Each weapon has a unique effect. A reversible spear is capable of creating flames effect. One of the swords emits bright deadly light and deals high damage. She also has a heavy sword with which she is able to shake the ground. One of her katanas is capable of creating a massive electrical blast capable of striking an enemy at a distance. Her beloved spear is capable of charging a large amount of magical energy at the tip and inflicting a huge amount of damage. It also attacks with lightning.[16]
Having come to be known as a God of War, Kagetora's reflexes are remarkable. She doesn't even bat an eye at Mori Nagayoshi's surprise attack. However, Mori blames his Heroic Spirit Restraint Armor Type A for this, claiming that it slows him down and that as long as she doesn't stand still, he can't hit her. Nagao Kagetora easily splits open Mori Nagayoshi's head with her spear, however, it fails to kill him due to the regeneration provided by the armor. Mori used this to his advantage and took her off guard with Boneless Man cutting through her armor like tissue paper. With Kagetora wounded, the two of them fight seemingly evenly until Oda Nobunaga intervenes.[4]
Even with the support of armorless Mori Nagayoshi, Kagetora is unable to harm Shibata Katsuie empowered by Demon King Nobunaga's Magical Energy. In fact, Mori notes that he seems to be getting stronger with every step. Kagetora states she would need her Noble Phantasm to stop him.[6] Despite being the avatar of Bishamonten, not even Kagetora can move freely when exposed to God of Makuzu's limitless Magical Energy unless it lets her.[11]
The combined efforts of Nagao Kagetora and Oda Nobunaga were powerful enough to defeat Demon King Nobunaga. Nagao Kagetora even remarks that she was a bit of a letdown.[10]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (C Rank): Nullifies Magecraft spells that were invoked in two verses or below. Cannot defend against large-scale Magecraft such as Great Magecrafts and Ritual Spells.[1]
- Riding (C Rank): Although she is in the Lancer Class, Kagetora possesses the Riding Skill. She also possesses aptitude for the Rider Class, and if the situation where she was summoned into that Class comes about, she would have a Rank A Riding Skill. She has access to Houshoutsukige, a famous horse that was forcibly summoned by Kagetora to ride on.[1]
- Divinity (C Rank): After her death, that way of life of hers which was detached from normalcy got others to identify Kagetora to the point of calling her a God of War.[1] Although Summer Nobbu's Nobunaga THE Rock 'n' Roll doesn't affect Li Shuwen, Oda Kipposhi, and Mori Nagayoshi as much, since she is the avatar of Bishamonten, this Anti-Divine Bounded Field limits Kagetora's movements specifically. Although Kagetora can't move very well inside it, she claims that she could never claim to be Echigo's god of war if she let something like this slow her down.[8]
Personal Skills[]
- Fate is in Heaven (A Rank): Kenshin, who has faith in Bishamonten’s divine protection, can receive an advantageous check for every action she performs on the battlefield. “In any case, my Luck in battle is awesome. As one would expect, I’m the Avatar of Bishamonten, don’t you think?”[1]
- Armor is on the Chest (A Rank): A Defense Skill against projectiles. It is said that while she was alive, Kenshin even leisurely slurped on sake before the enemies’ eyes as bullets flew about, all the bullets going past and avoiding her, and that anecdote became this Skill. Her self-confidence developed into a phenomenon similar to event manipulation, resulting in even the bullets’ trajectory to curve around her, and if said person does not believe she will be hit, then the bullets will never, ever hit her. But if the shooting is loaded with such vigour to the degree that said person will believe she will be hit, then it is possible to break through this divine protection. “Though I’m uncertain whether or not there is such a fellow.”[1] This allowed Kagetora to evade Oda Nobunaga's bullets. Even her full power Three Line Formation didn't get a single hit on a wounded Kagetora.[10]
- Accomplishment is in the Feet (A Rank): A faculty that shows the tactical intuition of Kagetora, who was extolled to be Japan’s peerless in war. Kagetora experienced more than 70 engagements in her lifetime and triumphed in just about most of them, but she is somewhat poor at castle sieges. “Aah, dammit! Come out and fight!”[1]
Noble Phantasms[]
Kagetora's first Noble Phantasm is Touhachi Bishamonten, an ability that summons her Eight-Bladed Guardian Biten. Thanks to them, she has accumulated countless blades to vanquish enemies of the Buddha.[12]
Kagetora's main Noble Phantasm is Bishamonten's Eight Phases Wheel Charge Formation.[1] Kagetora initially believed that she could have beaten Shibata Katsuie empowered by Demon King Nobunaga's Magical Energy with this attack. However, when he became so powerful Oryou claims even she might have a hard time against him, Kagetora regrets not having used her Noble Phantasm earlier on while she had the chance.[6] At this point, Kagetora is fairly certain she could at least hold him back, but she knows she can't defeat him.[8] She says that even if Li Shuwen, Summer Nobbu, Oda Kipposhi, Mori Nagayoshi, and herself all worked together, they wouldn't be able to defeat him, and that all they can do is wear him down so that he runs out of mana faster.[7]
Through consecutive use of her two Noble Phantasms, Kagetora can overpower God of Makuzu, he regenerated short after thanks to the High Priest Makuzu's Holy Grail. Oryou was surprised by how strong she is, making her question if she is even Human.[12]
Forms and Alternate versions[]
Haniwa[]
During the events of the Yamatai-koku Singularity, Nagao Kagetora was temporarily transformed into a Haniwa Nobbu by the Dark Blight.[13]
Abilities[]
As a Haniwa Nobbu, Kagetora's arms are shorter than normal, so she can't fight like she usually does. Due to this, she can't fight at her full strength. Despite this, she's still a force to be recokoned with. She was defeated by the combined efforts of Okita Souji, Himiko, Saitou Hajime, Okada Izou, and Mash Kyrielight. [13]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Nagao Kagetora was designed by Takashi Takeuchi in Fate/Grand Order. Her scenario writer is Keikenchi in Fate/Grand Order.
Comment from Illustrator[]
"After Okita and Ms. Majin, it has been decided that we will make a new character for the GUDAGUDA Group, and Kagetora is a character who was finally finished after we quibbled over everything, saying “It should be like that; It should be this way.” We proceeded by collecting concepts and designs of a ‘Japanese-style God of War’, and for Kagetora, I believe her design was completed so well to the extent that it even competes for first place among my character lineup. In order to show the character’s individuality, I decided on a plan of making all her facial expressions to be smiling faces, but that might have been a bit overkill. Shimaudon-kun was responsible for her weapons’ designs, while Shimokoshi-kun was responsible for her horse’s design. She became a very magnificent character who has depth." (Takeuchi Takashi) [1]
