Okada IzouWP (岡田以蔵WP, Okada Izō?), Class Name Assassin (アサシン?), is the Assassin-class Servant of Major Reiter in the Imperial Capital Holy Grail Strange Story of Fate/KOHA-ACE, and Major Reiter in Fate/type Redline. He is also summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Okada Izou was of the four great manslayers of the shogunate's closing daysWP, holding the alias of 'Manslayer Izou (人斬り以蔵, Hitokiri Izou?)'. The Onoha Ittou Style, the Kyoushin Meichiri Style, the Jikishi Style and such, he learned various styles of swordplay. Involved with numerous assassinations, he was imprisoned and executed for his crimes.[4]

Personality[]
Overly boastful of his own abilities, he has a tendency to look down on all other swordsmen, but reputed as 'One with the sword, swift and nimble as a falcon,' his sword arm was the genuine work of a genius.[4] He’s extremely fond of sake and gambling, and has a rough and hasty personality. He looks down on people for his genius with the sword, and hates greatly being made light of.
He doesn’t like using the head and there are occasions in which he depends on the decisions of others, and he tends to obey blindly fellows who make him enthusiastic once. Originally he’s unsophisticated with a chivalrous spirit and has a kind personality, but since he was used as others pleased and abandoned in the end he is twisted.
He intensely detests Ryōma, but that part is like the inversion of a friendship of bygone days. He has a heavy grudge against Ryoma after he betrayed him when he was alive and swore to get revenge on him when they meet again as Servants and kill him.
If you get on with him he surprisingly feels like a nice guy, but perhaps because he’s violent and not smart, he’s the type that is used as people please.
He clearly doesn't like being mocked, or made fun of by others. In Fate/type Redline, when Tsukumo mocks him that any bum can become a Servant, he brutally beat her up for it. He finds sentimental and heart-warming moments disgusting that makes him want to puke. He tends to uses dirty tactics against Servants if it's necessary to throw them off guard.

GUDAGUDA: Legend of the Imperial Capital Grail[]
Izou is summoned by the Holy Grail to participate in the Singularity's Holy Grail War.[7]
He goes to Sakamoto Ryouma's detective agency and asks Ritsuka if he's at the Sakamoto residence. Once Ritsuka confirms this, he immediately tries to kill them, but Okita Alter blocks his attack. Seeing her sword, Izou assumes Okita Alter is a Saber. But from the moment they crossed blades, he could tell that she is weak. He finds it hysterical, and considers himself lucky that his first opponent is her. He then tries to kill her, but Okita Alter's poor swordsmanship makes him question if she truly is a Saber. Seeing they’re at a disadvantage, Ritsuka and Okita Alter escape into the streets. Izou quickly catches up to them and commends Okita Alter for her quick escape attempt, which the latter takes as a compliment. Izou thinks she's mocking him and tries to kill her. But Oryou blocks his attack and again when he attacks Ryouma for betraying him in life. Ryouma feels guilty that he caused Izou's death but says there isn't time for a confrontation now. It is then that Okita Souji, who's been chasing Ryouma and Oryou for trespassing in on her territory, catches up. Ryouma has Oryou carry Ritsuka, Okita Alter, and Izou as they make their escape.[8]
Back in the office, Ryouma allows Izou to strike him as revenge for his betrayal. Izou is surprised that Ryouma didn't dodge his attack. Though it's a serious wound, Ryouma says he can deal with it if it helps make Izou feel better. He also knows he'd be dead if Izou was serious about killing him. Izou calls him an idiot and tells him to die for all he cares. After Oryou heals Ryouma with her saliva, Izou tells him that he still doesn't forgive him, claiming he doesn't feel like killing him now. Ryouma then convinces Izou to help them dismantle the territories by mentioning that Okita and another member of the Shinsengumi will be tough opponents.[7] He has him accompany Ritsuka and Okita Alter to Lancer's territory. Okita Alter is uneasy about Izou, though, given that he tried to kill Ritsuka a moment ago. But Ryouma assures her that Izou takes all his jobs very seriously. Izou comments that it isn't just his job he takes seriously.[9]
Izou protects Ritsuka and Okita Alter as they head for Lancer's territory. They both dislike his rude attitude. Izou says he is a man of his word while Ryouma is a liar. He also promises to kill them all once this is all over. The trio eventually reaches Lancer's territory, but Izou realizes someone got to Lancer before they did. Inside, they're greeted by Li Shuwen, who just killed the official Lancer. Izou decides he will take Shuwen on himself, believing him to be a glorified athlete. But in the ensuing fight, he is surprised that he is losing. He realizes that Shuwen is now the official Lancer and believes the Three Knight classes receive more support from the Grail than the others. Ritsuka and Okita Alter tell him though that Shuwen is simply strong. Shuwen tells Izou that he could have been something with his natural talent if he had training. Izou is greatly offended and boasts that he can make any style his own just by seeing in action once. Shuwen believes Izou surpasses in raw talent, but that is all he has. He continues that a true martial artist must be skilled in many disciplines and suspects Izou died young and foolish. Seeing Izou cannot fight, Ritsuka orders Okita Alter to fight, despite Izou’s objections.[9]
Despite her amateurish swordsmanship, she manages to kill Shuwen. Shuwen tells Izou that their skills were close yet still very distant from one another. Izou asks him why he's helping him, to which Shuwen confesses that Izou reminds him of himself in his youth. Shuwen then advises him to rebuild his skills from the ground up and to demonstrate his superiority to his opponents rather than boast of it. While the task is the same, he believes Izou changing his approach will change how he feels about it. He then disappears, saying that it's fun to surpass one's own limits. Izou prepares to take his leave when Okita Alter tells him that his battle with Shuwen helped weaken him. Izou tells her to shut up, saying he was only doing his job and that he'll show no mercy when they next meet as enemies. He then takes his leave of Ritsuka and Okita Alter.[9]
He later returns to the office and presumably overhears Oda Nobukatsu/Nobunaga and Leonardo da Vinci's explanation that the Grail War is a ritual by Caster to forge a Spirit Origin of the highest purity in a similar vein to Kodoku Ritual. Refusing to be anyone's pawn, he decides to help stop Caster's plans. He then helps locate Caster using the information Nobunaga provided.[10]
The group invades the Magus Facility, where they are confronted by many Heroic Spirit Soldiers. Ryouma, Oryou, and Izou stay behind to hold them off while the others proceed into the Grail's chamber. After fighting so many Heroic Spirit Soldiers, though, the three are left injured and exhausted. But just when they're about to be killed, Hijikata Toshizou arrives like Ryouma expected.[11] After helping them, he bursts into the Grail's Chamber followed by Ryouma and Oryou. Izou sneaks in and while Hijikata, Ryouma, and Oryou kill the soldiers, he stabs Akechi Mitsuhide through the back. Nobunaga uses this chance to take back her body. After seeing Nobunaga won’t accept his vision of an ideal world, Akechi decides to become the true Nobunaga and pours the Grail’s mud on himself to become a horrible monstrosity: Demon King of the Sixth Heaven. The group tries fighting him, but all of their attacks are ineffective. Okita Alter tells them to do something about the Grail in his chest then she’ll finish it. Hijikata and Izou attack Akechi followed by Nobunaga and Ryouma using Demon King of the Sixth Heaven and Like a Soaring Dragon together.[12] As both Noble Phantasms assail Akechi, Hijikata attacks him with his own Noble Phantasm followed by Izou removing the Grail from his chest. But then Izou notices Ryouma and Oryou are disappearing from using the last of their magical energy. Ryouma apologizes to Izou and disappears with Oryou, saying Okita Alter will handle the rest.[13]
After the Singularity is resolved, however, Izou calls out to Ryouma. Ryouma appears and is disappointed in himself that Izou deduced he faked his death in case something else came up. He admits that since he and Okita Alter have a lot in common, he thought it would be safer to fake his death. But he is glad to see he had nothing to worry about. Izou is annoyed but he is glad that he and Ryouma can just talk in the end. Ryouma agrees and wonders when they talked last with just the two of them. He corrects himself to three, though, when Oryou reminds him she is still here. Izou tells him he's always been a great fool. The Grail's chamber then explodes.[14]
Izou later fights Kasuya Heroine X and claims he is neither Saber nor Assassin, but a man-slayer. Ritsuka's party then arrives on the scene and is surprised to see Izou again. Izou immediately gets mad at Ryouma, believing he tricked him again. Ryouma panics as he tries to explain what happened. Ritsuka's party then defeats Izou with the help of X.[15]

Day 2[]
Assassin intercepts and kills the Imperial Japanese soldiers attempting to storm Tsukumo Fujimiya's place and assassinate her. He muses that his Master was working with the army, but he doesn't care because their relationship was only temporary. He steals a hat from a soldier's corpse, disgusted that such trash is what passes for an assassin nowadays. Tsukumo, who didn't notice the commotion outside, is then shocked when he appears right next to her. Introducing himself as a Saber and claiming his True Name to be Sakamoto Ryouma, he finds Tsukumo has no Command Spells, so he says they'll wait for the Master and Servant she was working with to come back. He is distracted, though, when his Master informs him that the Master and Servant were attacked and Tsukumo takes this chance to attack with her liquid bombs. Assassin deflects them with his sword and enraged, he slices off the fingers of her left hand, making her scream in agony. He tells her to shut up, punches her in the face, and demands to know the Servant's True Name.
After heavily injuring Tsukumo, he tells her that her buddies have abandoned her. He determines by breathing getting lighter that she will not make it. He later tortures her by reopening her wounds with his sword, telling her an outsider to Holy Grail War will not survive for long. Tsukumo learns his true class and mocks him, which Assassin responds to by brutally kicking her in the stomach and pulling her side ponytail. He tells her he doesn’t like being made fun of and he won’t hold back just because she’s a woman. His Master tells him to stop hurting Tsukumo. Assassin tells them to shut up and not to give him orders. He then Tsukumo’s lung after she asks if he was a fan of the real Ryouma when was alive. With his patience gone, he gives her one last chance to tell him Saber’s True Name, otherwise he will kill her. Saber and her Master, Kanata Akagi, arrive just in time to save Tsukumo. As he fights Saber, Assassin recognizes her swordsmanship and calls her a wolf of Mibu. He later tries to make a deal with Kanata, claiming that he will spare Tsukumo’s life if he uses a Command Spell to make Saber commit suicide. When Tsukumo tries to convince Kanata to abandon her and use the Holy Grail to grant her wish, Assassin pierces her right hand through her right shoulder and she loses consciousness. Then, to his mild surprise, he sees that most of Kanata’s left face and his entire arm and leg have faded away. He has no idea what’s happening to him, nor does he care, calling him a loser like his Servant. He demands Kanata to finish his Servant off so it will save him some trouble.
Saber calls out to Kanata and somehow his body stops fading and restores itself. Calmy, Kanata asks Assassin how to use Command spells. Assassin is incredulous that he became a Master if he is so ignorant, but explains. Kanata suddenly hurls his smartphone at him and makes it float with magecraft. Having never seen a smartphone before, Assassin mistakes it for a Mystic Code and is wary of it since it is floating. Kanata uses the distraction to use a Command Spell to order Saber to kill Assassin. Saber attacks Assassin, and he is shocked that she is pushing him back. Enraged by Kanata's sneaking tactics, he threatens him that he won't give him a painless death. Saber and Kanata's sentimental conversation disgusts him and he threatens that he can behead her Master before she reaches him. Saber dares him to try it. As their battle continues, Assassin tries to use dirty tactics by throwing a couch at her, only for her to slice it into pieces. He later throws his second sword at Kanata's head, but Saber deflects it. She then tries to attack him, but he imitates her flash step techniques and slashes her back. After Kanata reveals his title and abilities to Saber, Assassin gets angry and declares he is going to show them something very different as the real Manslayer as he prepares to unleash his Noble Phantasm.
He rushes at her and delivers a heavy slash. She partially blocks it with her hilt and takes a slash on her arm, but she manages to slice off some of his fingers. He starts thrashing and freaking out about his injury, causing Saber to call him out as a hypocrite as he had mocked Tsukumo when he took her fingers. Saber knocks him out the window and pursues him. As he struggles to fight back, he asks himself just what is Saber because she does not react to her injuries and he cannot sense any emotions from her as if she were an empty husk. He orders his Master to use a Command Spell to give him the strength to kill Saber, but instead, she uses it to order him to retreat. As he disappears, he swears he will kill Saber next time.
Day 3[]
After Assassin recovers from his injuries from his last battle against Saber, he is first seen slitting an unnamed Japanese commander's throat and kills him instantly in the middle of the night. He is later seen with his Master having a conversation with Major Magatsu.
After his Master and Major Magatsu's conversation, Assassin stole a bottle of alcohol from his Master, felt offend and correct her not to call him by his class in private. She asks him if he is still mad about what happen his fight with Saber, he took out his anger by kicking a bench and yells at her that if he could his fight with Saber kept going, he could had won. When she taunt him about he could kill her as long he doesn't mind going down a useless fool who can't follow orders, still enraged, he decides not to kill her since if he did, he will lose his chance of winning the Holy Grail War.
He is later seen recalls from yesterday and his Master until Caster come to check up on him. Annoyed to see Caster, he remind him that his Master already report to him. He wonders if Caster is curious about Tsukumo and complains about her being annoying. However, Caster wasn't talking about her, he is actually talking about Saber's Master. He explains to him about how he is weird and his body keeps turning transparent, and the things he threw at him kept floating around. He doesn't know about him much and asks Caster why is he curious about Saber's Master and replies that he took an interest in him and he will appreciate if he tells him more about him.

Okada Izou was born with fearsome natural talents that caused him to be released in the Bakumatsu society as a matchless hitokiri. Extolled as an expert of divine punishment, Izou could be described as a prominent Assassin in Japanese history that was involved in many assassination cases, but that also prevented his accomplishment as a swordsman. Due the trends of the times or maybe even fate, Izou was a rare genius of the sword that was unable to polish his talent and let it bloom exactly because he was a genius. In Japanese history, the Bakumatsu is regarded as the era in which the deed of "cutting people with a blade" was performed the most. As a "hitokiri" who represents said era, the sword skill of Izou is comparable to the Saber Class despite him being an Assassin.[2][4]

He has a tendency to act arrogant about his own skill and to look down on others, but his skill is truly that of a genius.[16] Rather than a master fencer he’s a hitokiri by the book, the type that doesn’t dislike despicable actions if they are for the sake of winning.[2][4] He utilizes a fighting style specialized in killing his enemies practically, and is the kind to not hesitate about using underhanded means of victory.[16]

Izou learned several schools, but since he left every dōjō halfway without training seriously, he didn’t reach full mastery of the arts. "While the thing I was the most conscious about while designing the FGO version was following the image of Izou-san in the original work Koha-Ace, each Ascension stage respectively had great changes. Initially, I thought of an outfit with a military cap and an inverness cape for the 1st stage, but it was FGO-nized while being advised by Keikenchi-sensei, and he turned into an assassin that wears a scarf to conceal his face. (But I really like the original design, so it’d be nice if there was someday a chance for it to come out) Thereafter, feel free! It’s what they said, so the 2nd stage is the hitokiri mode that shook Kyōto, the 3rd stage has the image of Izou-san in his golden age (like when he escorted Katsu-sensei). Also, while I was looking at reference data about Izou-san, I felt a side of him that wasn’t just a thug like for example his feeling of admiration towards Niten-sama (Miyamoto Musashi). Incorporating these elements into each stage, it turned into the final design."(lack)[2]

In Japanese history, the Bakumatsu is regarded as the era in which the deed of "cutting people with a blade" was performed the most. As a "hitokiri" who represents said era, the sword skill of Izou is comparable to the Saber Class despite him being an Assassin.
During his lifetime, his relationship with Ryouma could be described as that of friends and he even took up jobs as a bodyguard at Ryouma's request. However, due the trend of the times, the two would eventually part ways in a conclusive manner.

The heretic sword of Hitokiri Izou. A Noble Phantasm that allows him to reproduce any sword technique which he has seen as his own.
When he is first summoned, he only possesses those memorized during his previous life, but it is possible to attempt further strengthening by seeing new sword techniques after being summoned.
However, there are limits to the sword techniques that he can reproduce - not only they must be Anti-Unit, but is also impossible to reproduce those that rely on the special traits of a Noble Phantasm.

Okada Izou, owner of an extraordinary talent for the sword that can imitate any swordsmanship just by seeing it.
Such fearsome natural talents caused Izou to be released in the Bakumatsu society as a matchless hitokiri.
Extolled as an expert of divine punishment, Izou could be described as a prominent assassin in Japanese history that was involved in many assassination cases, but that also prevented his accomplishment as a swordsman.
Due the trends of the times or maybe even fate, but how regrettable: a rare genius of the sword was unable to polish his talent and let it bloom exactly because he was a genius.

小野派一刀流、鏡心明智流、直指流剣術など様々な剣術を学ぶ。多くの暗殺事件に関わり、それが原因で投獄され処刑された。
才を鼻にかけ自分以外の剣士を見下すきらいがあるが「撃剣矯捷なること隼の如し」と評された剣の腕は正真正銘の天才。

幕末とは日本史上「刀で人を斬る」という行為がもっとも行われたともいえる時代であり、その時代を代表する「人斬り」である以蔵の剣技はアサシンでありながらセイバークラスに匹敵するほどのもの。
生前の龍馬とは親友ともいえる間柄であり、龍馬の依頼で護衛の仕事をすることなどもあった。
だが時代の流れはやがて二人を決定的に分かつことになる。

ただし再現可能な剣技には制限があり、対人のものであること、また宝具の特性に依存したものは再現不可能となっている。

あらゆる剣法を見ただけで模倣できるという規格外の剣才の持ち主、岡田以蔵。
その恐ろしいまでの天稟は以蔵を希代の人斬りとして幕末の世に放つこととなった。
天誅の名人と謳われ、数々の暗殺事件に関わった日本史上有数のアサシンといえる以蔵だが、それゆえ剣士として大成することはなかった。
