Orlocke Caesarmund (オルロック・シザームンド, Orurokku Shizāmundo?) is a magus of the Caesarmund family who takes part in the Adra Castle incident of Lord El-Melloi II Case Files.[2]
Profile[]
Background[]
As a magus capable of reaching the rank of Brand, he nevertheless found himself drowned in love. When he met his old friend Irene Ashborn, as he was approached by Geryon Ashborn as a research partner, for the first time in years, love blossomed between them. Born from their one-time affair, Glannid Ashborn was genetically Orlocke's son.[1]
Appearance[]
Though he first appeared with the impression of a last boss, he ended up showing a rather good-natured side to El-Melloi II, and so ended up like that. His unexpected adaptability and understanding of Modern Magecraft likely stems from his distance from the political games of the Clock Tower, allowing him to judge based on merit alone.
Personality[]
He initially gave off a cold and vicious impression typical of any veteran magus when he met with the other guests. But this had belies a man who was haunted by his past involvement with the Adra Castle and its previous master Lord Ashborn.
After his transference into his homunculus body, his personality became more laid-back and sarcastic, although still very much aware of the gravity of the situation.
Role[]
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files[]
The boy he ended up engraving his Magic Crest and personality on to at the end of the story was named Shanon. Perhaps that was the name Orlocke had intended to give to his own child someday…
Perhaps the sickness that struck down Orlocke was the same that claimed the lives of Geryon’s wife and son…
And perhaps all of that was part of Geryon’s plan from the beginning.
For now, it all remains a mystery.
But, his incantation of “Perform a dance” is something El-Melloi II will never forget.[1]
Abilities[]
Orlocke's family magecraft is known as Papilio Magia: Butterfly Magecraft (蝶魔術, Chō Majutsu?), a spell designed to mimic the metamorphic process of a butterfly. Its premise is the inherent Mystery in the process of a butterfly changing to an effectively entirely different mode of life between the larval, pupal, and mature stages of its development. As Orlocke himself described it, it is “the manipulation of the gap between what is certain and what is uncertain,” interference in the act of transformation itself being the core of this strain of magecraft. Through this spell, Orlocke was able to gradually transfer his crest and his consciousness into a homunculus body he had prepared which made from his own blood and semen. By the time of the Adra Castle incident, he had already transferred ninety percent of his being into the new body.[3]
Having caught the eye of the master of the Castle of Separation Geryon Ashborn, he enlisted Orlocke’s help, and was able to create a method for transplanting Magic Crests into others. …though as the story describes, it was far from complete, and came with heavy side effects (though those side effects were Geryon’s goal from the start).[3]
Fittingly, Orlocke also employs several butterfly familiars to act as surveillance when needed.

Instigated by Geryon himself, Orlocke came to have a relationship with Geryon’s wife. Born from that affair, Granid Ashbourne was genetically Orlocke’s son.

- ↑ Lord El-Melloi II Case Files Volume 1 - "case. Adra Castle Separation"
