Servant parameters

Parameter Rules (パラメータールール, Paramētā Rūru?) are a set of rules for representing the relative power of each item ranked by letters under different systems, translated into specific parameters "for no particular reason."[1] There are five main ranks, E, D, C, B, A, that each have a quantifiable number assigned to it. Considering "one" to be a "normal value", E is equal to "ten" and it increases by ten incrementally until reaching "fifty" at A.[1] A is the highest normal rank, but there is an exception to the rule with the EX Rank.[2] It represents something that falls outside of the numerical ranking scale, a value that cannot be quantified under the normal system because it is in a league of its own, powerful to the extent of rendering comparisons meaningless.[3] BB in the Moon Cell presents a special ★ category that signifies something that cannot be numerically represented rather than exceeding the limits of the system like EX.[2] ? has been used with the Servant Noble Phantasm parameter statistic to reflect two without proper Noble Phantasms, EMIYA and Sasaki Kojirou.[4] None (なし, Nashi?) has been used with Li Shuwen whose No Second Strike is technically not a Noble Phantasm.[5] has been used to denote that the statistic does not apply, such as with Kingprotea not possessing a Noble Phantasm.[6]

There are two different "modifiers" that can be applied to ranks, + and -. The "+" modifier represents the capacity of a temporary boost in power, allowing a weapon or ability of a lower rank to surpass a higher rank for a moment. While a B+ is generally weaker than an A, B+ may momentarily exceed A by doubling its own power.[1] + indicates a two-times increase, ++ indicates a three-times increase, and +++ indicates a four-times increase. The "-" modifier indicates a rank which has a number that is not reliably stable, technically qualifying for that rank, but not quite reaching the rank in terms of power or ability and possibly being even closer to the next rank down.[7]

While the ranks correspond to numbers, there may be cases where a specific rank matters more than the number it represents. The Noble Phantasms God Hand and Armor of Fafnir defend directly on the basis of rank, even though the parameters for Noble Phantasms and regular attacks differ. Converting the numbers, Noble Phantasms of C Rank are the equivalent of an A+ or A Rank regular attack, but the armor Noble Phantasms only defend according to the rank of each individual system while ignoring the equivalence.

Rank Value + ++ +++
A 50 100 150 200
B 40 80 120 160
C 30 60 90 120
D 20 40 60 80
E 10 20 30 40
  • Physical attacks: Physical attacks of a powerful enough nature, like those of Servants, can be ranked as such. While a sword Noble Phantasm may be A-rank, the rank is not fulfilled without activating its true power as a Noble Phantasm, so the strength of a strike instead comes from the Servant's Strength statistic. It is also possible for weapons to allow for more attacks more powerful than the wielder's Strength, such as Atalanta drawing her bow out to its limit for an attack exceeding A-rank.[8]
  • Magecraft: The amount of power that goes into a spell decides its rank, mitigated by abilities like Magic Resistance. A Rank magecraft is already on the level of greater magecraft, and Magecraft of A+ Rank is said to be almost at the level of Magic.
  • Servant statistics and Skills: Under the Servant system, their six statistics and main Skills are each given a rank corresponding to their overall abilities. While the Master and local attributes have some influence on them, the ranks are mostly decided by the Heroic Spirit's own abilities and fame.[9] Due to various factors, they may be lower or higher than normal, and abilities like Mad Enhancement can increase them beyond even their optimal level. Servants with + modifiers are thought to be extraordinary.[8] Heroic Spirits possessing A+ level attributes are rare, those possessing A++ attributes are extraordinary, those possessing A+++ attributes are in a class of their own, and those possessing EX attributes have truly exceptional abilities that fall outside of the numerical ranking scale. Gilgamesh, although not possessing very impressive scores for his overall abilities, is clearly distinguished from other Heroic Spirits due to his EX ranked Noble Phantasm parameter.[1] Abilities will often base the effectiveness of the attack or effect directly on rank, and there are those that have "Strength Checks" or "Luck Checks."
The Moon Cell's Servant system's parameters are slightly different. Their statistics are based upon the link between the souls of the Master and Servant, and that link can be increased as the Master's rank increases by hacking with Alteration of the Soul (魂の改竄, Tamashī no Kaizan?) performed by Aoko Aozaki. The ranks progress sequentially from: E, D, C, B, A, A+, A++, and EX.
  • Noble Phantasms: Noble Phantasms follow the same general principal in terms of their ranks, but they are more of a rough concept to show comparative strength rather than specific numerical values. + modifiers still temporarily double their power for a moment.[10] They are on a higher scale than regular attacks, with a Noble Phantasm of C Rank being the equivalent of an A+ or A Rank regular attack. A++ and EX Rank Noble Phantasms are said to be a Mystery on the level of Divine Spirits. In the case of armaments being used as physical weapons without being activated as true Noble Phantasms, their attacks are based only upon the Strength of their wielder.[8] There are Noble Phantasms that can be quantified directly by numbers when referring to their abilities, but there are also those with conceptual effects that fall into a special category.[11]
  • Servants and Masters : Servants and Masters are granted some form of rank through unknown parameters. Heroes of the highest fame are said to almost always be A Rank Servants.[12] Hakuno Kishinami is an E- Rank Master, while Rin is considered A Rank. Lancer is estimated to rank from B+ to A as a Servant, while Gilgamesh ranks at EX. If a normal A-rank Servant is "100", Caster ranks at "9."[13]
  • Magic Circuits and Regression to the Age of Gods: Magic Circuits and Regression to the Age of Gods are ranked by Quality (質, Shitsu?) and Quantity (量, Ryō?). There is also an accompanying Composition (編成, Hensei?) measurement that describes their overall ability instead of a letter rank.
  • Humanity Foundation Value: Humanity Foundation Value is a system of ranks designated for the Human Order Foundations in Fate/Grand Order. The seven Singularities created in the Grand Orders were meant to overturn seven of the most significant Quantum Time-Locks, in other words, the Human Order Foundations, within the History of Man. Each rank represents the significance of each Quantum Time-Lock, and losing one of them will have a proportionate effect on the History of Man depending on its ranking. The greater the ranks of the Quantum Time-Locks lost, the greater the effect on the History of Man being reduced into chaos.
  • Other: Characters will often use the letter grades in a non-serious manner, such as Shirou Emiya describing Rider by saying "she has a rank of A+ in terms of people I cannot get along with." Others may assign ranks to other joking characteristics such as Kiyohime describing her "cleaning skills" (as in getting rid of trash) as A+++ Rank.

    Parameter Rules [Others]
For no particular reason, all the Servants had their abilities translated into specific parameters.
It's pretty obvious just from looking at them that A is the strongest, but you might be thinking to yourself, "What on earth is all this B+ and A+ nonsense!?" Well, don't worry, because I'm going to take a moment to explain the rules behind it here.
For sake of argument, let's assume that a normal value is 1. In that case, E would be 10. And, every rank after that adds another 10, all the way up to A, which is 50.
Now, things like B+ and A+ represent the unique ability to multiply these numerical values for just an instant.
In other words, an ability ranked B+ would normally be weaker than an ability ranked A, but can momentarily exceed it by doubling its own power from 40 to 80.
Heroic Spirits with A+ (plus) are rare, those with A++ (double plus) are extraordinary, and those with A+++ (triple plus) are in a class all their own.
Also, a truly exceptional ability score that falls outside the numerical ranking scale is represented by an EX.
Though Gilgamesh's ability scores generally aren't very impressive, his EX rank Noble Phantasm parameter clearly distinguishes him from the other Heroic Spirits.

  3. [v] Fate/complete material III: World material - Records of Heavens Feel - Servant System: Servant's status, p.014

    Servant's status

    • Strength: Bodily might in terms of power.
    • Endurance: How much damage one can withstand.
    • Agility: Quickness and speed of reaction.
    • Magical Power: How much magical energy can be handled.
    • Good luck: The quality of one's luck.
    • Noble Phantasm: The strength of the Noble Phantasm one owns.

A status showing a clear representation of the mentality of the Servant. It represents a combination of the policy they place importance on and their personality, policies being "lawful, neutral, chaotic" and personalities being "good, neutral, evil". These are different from the fire, wind, and other alignments of magi.
Non-matching personalities won't result in major discord, but differing policies will result in difficulty in a Servant resolving differences of opinion with another Servant.
Lawful Artoria and Chaotic Gilgamesh will often have differing opinions despite their personalities both being the same "good".

    •Parameter Rule

A set of rules for representing the rank of a particular status. They range from A~E. EX is in a league of its own, representing powerful to the extent of rendering comparisons meaningless. If we assign numbers to ranks, then E=10, with each subsequent rank increasing by +10. Ranks with “+” such as A+ and B+ can momentarily multiply its associated numerical value. For instance, C+(30) can temporarily boost its power to 60, exceeding Rank A (50). Also, “++” represents multiply by three times.

Alter Ego of thirst of love.
    G means gigantism, growing, greed.
It was formerly sealed at the ends of the imaginary number space.
Alter Egos are complexes made from several goddesses, however Protea is created from the essence of the great Mother Goddess that is common throughout all mythologies. Her self can be treated as a Noble Phantasm as she does not possess a Noble Phantasm. As with the Golden White Face, she's a hazard that can only be overcome in battle through the combined strength of several servants.

    Class Skills
    Huge Scale - EX
A cheat skill that evolved from Self-Modification.
There is no limit to how large she can get. Once the upper limit is reached, the upper limit is further increased. This is infinitely repeated. Basically infinite growth of infinite growth.
Anywho, she's a planet destroying universe level disaster, but giant transformation makes her lose complex intelligence and function. This skill cannot bear common sense, so one completely self-destructs.

    Grow Up Grow - EX
Cheat Skill evolving from Experience Point Bonus.
Experience Point Bonus allows one to gain a bonus percentage of experience points after a battle. King Protea's skill cheats and changes it to "Always gaining Experience Points."

    Personal Skills
    Self-Suggestion - EX
    Suggestion applied to oneself.
A skill that raises resistance against mental interference. At A rank "I do not age = Truly stops aging" level of assumption is possible. At EX level, whatever is going on in that mental world is outside of understanding.

Nasu: That's a tricky one. A minus sign is like that one thing, you know? It's like a B in terms of rank, but for your ability it's less than a B, maybe even a C. Something like that. Think of it as a number that's not very stable. Also, take care of your hair.
Takeuchi: I see. Kind of like when a new game you've been waiting for causes your writing speed to become unstable.
Nasu: A clear, perfect example, thank you... Please be gentle to mushrooms.

Q: What is the basis for the ranks assigned to Servants’ abilities and skills? Also, who or what assigns the ranks? Is it the will of the Greater Grail? Or the opinion of the Master?

A: The summoning Master and local attributes have some influence, but it’s basically the hero’s known exploits, and the recognition afforded them by the people of the world, that decide these rankings.

Q: Is there ever a case where each possessed noble phantasms' rank is different from the status screen's Noble Phantasm Rank?

A: The principle is the same. Numericalization is also possible, but for those guys' abilities we kinda did a meaning-word-play "A is stronger so B will lose to it" type thing then numbers were separated into rough conceptual categories like A~E.

By the way, please consider +'s as just things that can momentarily double an ability.

    Q. I have a question about the Servants vs. other character answer in the 9th issue of Comptiq. About a Servant with an average Noble Phantasm, who would have one and what rank would that have been?

A: That's a serious question. The level of the Noble Phantasm would be B, and ability being represented by numbers would be called an average Noble Phantasm. Broken Phantasm, Barrier of the Wind King (C), Gae Bolg (thrown) (B), that sort.
On the other hand, those with conceptual effects, destiny interference types fall into a special category. With Gae Bolg (regular), no matter how much Arcueid might be superior to Lancer in numbers, she will be killed depending on her luck, you see.

  12. Fate/stay night Fate route: Day 4 - Contract Established / Saber (I)
  13. [v] Fate/EXTRA material - Encyclopedia: Caster (Fox) [Servant], p.173-174 [T]

    Caster (Fox) [Servant]
Caster is one of the main Servants who can make a contract with the main protagonist.
She is always smiling and has quite the precocious tongue. She is the trademark beauty of Extra with those lovely fox ears. She is usually called Cas-ko.
Just as the class name Caster implies, she is a magic user. She also features a Japanese-style design. “I’m gonna zap you ☆!”
She refers to herself with 私 (watakushi). She is unreserved like a gal (gyaru), and when trying to be cute for a boy she uses アタシ (atashi).
Unusual for a Fate game, she is so smitten with the protagonist that you might do a double take,
“Damn they even put this in?”
Her goal is to become the protagonist’s wife. She’s a realist and also devilishly cute in all areas unrelated to her goals or dreams.
She has a carefree attitude and always has love on the mind. She is an admittedly gal-esque Servant. However, fundamentally she is a logical realist. For example, she treats “god” as a system like existence. Sometimes this trips her up and she blurts out lines which don’t suit her usual carefree mentality.
According to Red Saber “She puts up a loose airhead front, but that girl’s true nature is really sharp.”

Cas-ko’s true form is an anti-heroic spirit, God-class… she is more or less a god.
Having lost most of her power, she is now on the same level as other human heroic spirits, however when the number of her tails increases and her spirit rank goes up to the highest level, it’s impossible for humans to comprehend her full power.
This is only natural, as the foundation of her being came from an offering to the sun. Thus, the scale of her existence is equivalent to that of the sun.
By the way, for each tail that returns, Cas-ko’s power increases by 9x. This means that in her max power state with all nine tails her power has increased by 99.

Supposing that we represent an A rank Servant with a numerical power level of, say, 100 (not including Noble Phantasms), Cas-ko with 1 tail has a power of about 9, and as you can see could never defeat an A rank Servant. But, as the number of tails increases… well it’s silly to even try comparing.
Her true name, which is something that should remain a secret, is quickly revealed from the start of the game. Having no interest in the Holy Grail War, and with a unique perspective of the world, she is clearly different from the other servants. Not to mention she is essentially a cheat character. She is the embodiment of a natural phenomenon: a god-class spirit. Why does she posses such a low spirit rank in game? Why does her behavior mimic that of humans? Please refer to her Special My Room to find out.

Despite being such a great god-class spirit, in the game she is the weakest Servant.
With her paper thin armor and inability to use Noble Phantasms it’s an easy game-over if you let your guard down. I understand, I understand, if only the setting had been made so that she was your childhood friend, then she would’ve truly been the best character, right!?
In any case, I would like players who choose Cas-ko to have the resolve to surmount the border of life and death.
On the other hand, after Cas-ko’s stats are upgraded, the second half of the game is a sure-victory cakewalk, regardless if the enemy is a weakling or a boss. The alteration of her soul boosts her magic power like crazy!
She likes trips to hot spring resorts (but not hot spring baths), and love-filled cooking (at least while doing the cooking), and giving presents to herself.
She hates dogs, only somewhat handsome guys, and people who disrupt her time alone with her Master.
She’s not too fond of loveable 100% airhead characters. She seems to have well learned the lesson that her half-baked airhead act never seems to come out ahead of the real deal. Dear Cas-ko, what happened in your past?

In CCC Cas-ko appears featuring an S&M bondage style + Goth Loli dress fusion design.
Even though she puts up a front pretending to dislike her attire she actually loves it, “As long as it’s cute, anything’s okay!”
The Heroic Spirit of Sweets doesn’t have the same pride that the other few Japanese style Servants do.
In CCC her rival is Passionlip.
Under normal circumstances Cas-ko is on the verge of death after taking a normal punch attack, so Passionlip’s huge one-shot lip attack means that she is an instant death monster as far as Cas-ko is concerned.
Furthermore, it seems that a narrow-minded tendency lingers from Passionlip’s yandere past, and this can prove to be quite irritating to Cas-ko.
Also, when talking about Cas-ko it’s impossible to skip over the amazing preferential treatment we gave her ending.
Who who imagine that she’d get a two CG ending event!? What is this recklessness?
And that ultra special final CG!!
Not to mention the ending differs depending on whether your character is male or female!
The “Say Aahhh” ending CG wasn’t in the plan from start, but after a developer meeting it was decided that the final event CG would be the Tamamo Nine. At that point we were short on time and budget but after consulting with Wada Arco we were able to make something out of nothing and helped us realize the “Say Aahhh” ending CG.
