Pretender (プリテンダー, Puritendā?), One who wears a role (役を羽織る者, yaku o haoru mono?), is an Extra Servant Class. According to E-Aqua Marie, Pretender was a Servant Class made by CHALDEAS, and as such she knows its fundamentals by heart, and can even give a Class Score to reinforce Pretenders.[1]
Qualifications and characteristics[]
Pretenders are those who became heroes while feigning another identity. Disguised individuals, like the masked ZorroWP, do not qualify for the class, but rather those who acted while fulfilling the role of another. If "Person A" dies with unfulfilled ambitions and "Person B" acts in the role of "Person A" until the end without exposing themselves, "Person A" retains all of their fame. "Person B," the interior of this false persona, is unable to occupy any other spot, so they are left as the only one able to fulfill the role of "Person A," the exterior of the false persona.[2]
First observed in the World of Fate/Grand Order by Chaldea Security Organization, the Class is deduced and named by Sherlock Holmes. The Class is described by Holmes as "A Heroic Spirit who is not an opponent to man or beast, but the world through spinning impersonations." He says those qualifying are among Heroes and Anti-Heroes who "have given false representation, deceiving and misleading others to do great deeds." Beyond merely being a "counterfeit," Pretenders are "someone who deceives even the soul until more power and greater achievements than the real thing remain."[3]
Faker gained the Pretender Class as well as her parameters and Skills partially altered, as a result of having her Saint Graph mixed with Mnemosyne.[4]
According to E-Aqua Marie, the Servant Class of Pretender was made within CHALDEAS.[1]
The reason Pretenders don't cause "distortions" in the Holy Grail War system is that they come disguised as existing classes.[5] Depending on the Servant, their True Name on their Saint Graph maybe be obscured. The revelation of a Pretender's True Name is shown to have multiple different methods, which are:

Nasu: Simply put, someone who became a hero while feigning being something else. A hero like Zorro who acts while under disguise of a mask does not qualify as a Pretender. For example, let's say a certain A has died with their ambitions unfilled, and in his place a certain B continues their writings, leaves their comments and fulfills the role of A into the end, ultimately leaving all the fame with A. Meanwhile, B who was the interior of this persona cannot find any spots to occupy and ultimately the only one who becomes a hero is A, the exterior. This is what the Pretender class, one who wears a role, entails.
