RomulusWP-QuirinusWP (ロムルス=クィリヌス, Romurusu-Kwirinusu?), Class Name Lancer (ランサー, Ransā?), is a Lancer-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. He manifests as Grand Lancer (グランドランサー, Gurando Ransā?) through the Godbreaker Spell Protocol ritual.
Profile[]
Identity[]
The deified form of Romulus post-mortem as Quirinus in Roman mythology. He is one of the three Chief Gods of Roman mythology, alongside Mars and Jupiter.[4]
Roma at its very core is Romance.[2]
Passing through the Age of Gods, how one man became able to love another, and humanity; Roma fully encompasses and symbolizes all of these.[2]
Born to the god of war Mars and Princess Rhea Silvia, growing up with a beast as a friend, and eventually laying the foundations for the great Roman Republic. The manifestation before us is the figure of the young Romulus who founded Roma and later came to be deified as Quirinus who was a part of the triad of supreme Roman gods.[2]
As an existence that was deified, the manifestation heavily symbolizes the history of expansion and growth of civilization during Ancient Roma and the vicious, violent events it entailed. In the same way the Heroic Spirit with an identical name displays the continued governance of a ruler and prosperity, the Romulus we see is an existence that displays humanity’s potential to leave the Age of Gods behind.[2]
Appearance[]
He has taken on the appearance of Romulus during his youth. Finally, clearly putting on display the appearance of Roma’s founder as a God. Normally, it is unthinkable that a Divine Spirit would be summoned as a Grand Class servant. However, due to the deep relationship Romulus holds with human history and his becoming a supreme god while living as a human, he who is an exception above exceptions has brought an innumerable amount of miracles together to be summoned as a Grand Class Lancer in the Fifth Lostbelt.
Personality[]
Romulus-Quirinus takes on the same quirkiness of his Lancer counterpart, including his poses and embrace of the Roman Empire, his affection for the emperors of the Roman Empire, and his desire to transform all into Rome. Nevertheless, he is also a transcendant figure who is all-loving towards the universe, sheds moral truths, and is accepting of the moral failings of the empire at the same time (which he refers to as his sins).
Relationships[]
- Nero Claudius
- "Nero...our lovely child. The one who embodied Rome's glory and shadow...the emperor who is like a sister to us. We love you."[5]
- "My beloved child. You are the very glory of Rome. I love you as if you were my younger sister. At the same time, when I think of your final days alive, sadness tears at my chest."[3]
- Caligula
- "Caligula. Our child cursed by the Moon...Rome who is like our younger brother. The fact that you do not blame Diana surely means that you understand the crime you committed."[5]
- "My younger brother, one who is like Rome, who was cursed by the Moon. Loathsome gods. Loathsome Diana!"[3]
- Gaius Julius Caesar
- "Caesar. Ah, Caesar. Acknowledging the fact should take only a second! Rather, you should get married with your head held high! That's what being Rome is about!"[5]
- "Caesar, why didn’t you acknowledge your marriage openly? What an unbelievable man, and at this stage too…"[3]
- Charlemagne
- "Don’t hold yourself back. You too are a beloved Roman."[3]
- Constantine XI
- "Oh, my Roman. You fought brilliantly. Raise your head. As long as humans embrace tales of romance, and reach for the skies, Rome will be eternal."[3]
- Artemis
- "Artemis... She has an appearance different from the Diana we know. Could she be the embodiment of Diana's love after being cut off from Aletheia?"[5]
- Heracles
- "Ah! The strongest hero, Heracles! While you may not be our father, you are a man who is like one. He must also be Rome!"[5]

Fate/Grand Order[]
Olympus: Interstellar Mountainous City[]
In the end, Romulus was still within the realm of humanity
Finally, clearly putting on display the appearance of Roma’s founder as a God. Normally, it is unthinkable that a Divine Spirit would be summoned as a Grand Class servant. However, due to the deep relationship Romulus holds with human history and his becoming a supreme god while living as a human, he who is an exception above exceptions has brought an innumerable amount of miracles together to be summoned as a Grand Class Lancer in the Fifth Lostbelt.[2]
Within the Fifth Lostbelt, numerous servants who sided with humanity stood up to the Lostbelt King Zeus, but all lost in battle. These servants gathered the last vestiges of their power into one final grand plan, and entrusted their hope to Chaldea. That final grand plan was called “Operation: God Slayer”. Simultaneously holding onto his human self and his existence as a peak god within the entirety of mythological records, he stood on the side of humanity. Capable of wielding power in the same realm as the almighty and all knowing Zeus of Greek Mythology, Romulus-Quirinus would be summoned as a part of “Operation: God Slayer”.[2]
Following this, the team from Chaldea made their appearance and “Operation: God Slayer” finally took form. Romulus-Quirinus manifested and from there did battle together with Chaldea and brought down the Zeus (Lostbelt).[2][6]
He then helps the Storm Border take down Chaos.[7]
And he then disappeared along with the God Slayer.[2][8]
Thought to never be able to fully manifest ever again, thanks to the relationship fostered with the master and being recorded within Novum Chaldea’s Trismegistus, it became possible for his Spirit Origin to be summoned as a non-Grand Class servant. Once again he wields his spear of light for humanity.[2]
Nahui Mictlan: Golden Sea of Trees Travelogue[]
When U-Olga Marie has a dream where she fights all of the Grand Servants at once, Romulus-Quirinus appears as Grand Lancer.[9]
Fate/Grand Order Arcade[]
Convergent Singularity: Lilim Harlot[]
Thanks to Romulus' assistance, many of the Roman Heroic Spirits were able to manifest in Whore of Babylon's Conceptual Universe.[10]
Abilities[]
Despite being born Human, Romulus became the ultimate being of the Roman Civilization myth after death.[6] As the Supreme God of Rome,[2][3][6] Quirinus is a Chief God-level Divine Spirit surpassing even Jupiter and Mars.[11][6] Their power is too great to be contained in a regular Saint Graph, and they can only truly manifest in a Crowned vessel. It is usually impossible for a Divine Spirit to be summoned as a Heroic Spirit in a Grand Servant Class, but since Romulus was deeply involved in the Human History and remained human as he became an ultimate god, they're a super-exception.[2][3] Having reached the top of the Lancer Class by meeting high standards in both power and legends,[12] they are summoned as Grand Lancer in the Atlantic Lostbelt after a multitude of miracles.[2][3][6] Quirinus is regarded as a being capable of destroying the Machine Gods and the King of the Heavens.[13] In fact, their power is equal to the thunderbolt wielded by Zeus, the King of the Greek Gods who often calls himself almighty.[2][3]
Although Quirinus believed they would never be summoned again, they were able to be summoned by Chaldea thanks to their newly-formed bonds with Ritsuka Fujimaru. Although they manifest as a regular Lancer with a non-Grand Saint Graph, they are unquestionably extraordinary.[2][3]
Combat[]
During the final battle against Zeus, Quirinus' blessing not only increased Ortinax's output, but all of Chaldea's pools of Magical Energy tremendously. Mash Kyrielight notes that the Ortinax output increased to 300%, and Miyamoto Musashi that she unlocked a new move she can't use normally named Niten Ichiryu Ultimate Art: Oikazuchi Kurikara. Thanks to his aid, their attacks were capable of penetrating Zeus's defenses and hurt him. When Zeus prepared to use an offensive Authority to counterattack, his outer shell's Magical Energy density weakened as a result. Realizing this fact, Quirinus ordered Mash to fire Black Barrel, subsequently killing him.[6]
After the battle with Zeus, Quirinus and Ares were the only ones fast enough to react to Chaos's beam attack moving faster than lightWP. While Quirinus put up a Bounded Field to protect Chaldea, Ares used his own body to protect them.[7] Although Quirinus had been planning on saving the remainder of his strength for the Alien God,[7] they decided to use all his remaining Divine aura, Authority, and Magical Energy to create a path for the Storm Border reach Chaos's past his Cross-Dimensional Maze.[7][8] This is something only they could do.[7] Quirinus is not an Ancient God, but a New God who blazes a path towards a new future.[6] Romulus' assistance allowed the Roman Heroic Spirits to manifest in Whore of Babylon's Conceptual Universe.[10]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (A Rank): Possesses a high rank in the Magic Resistance skill.[3]
- Independent Action (B+ Rank): Fundamentally, those who have been bound as a Chief God and the highest god can’t exist on the World... But, Romulus-Quirinus has purposely lowered the rank on his own.[2][3]
- Divine Core of the Chief God (B+ Rank): Romulus, who is the son of the war god Mars, and became the highest god in the Roman mythology system, Quirinus, after his death, exceptionally possesses a Divine Core in his Saint Graph. Originally it would have a non-standard rank, but in Chaldea’s summoning, it stays at B+ rank.[2][3] Just as a Heroic Spirit cannot maintain their existence without their Spiritual Core, neither can a god maintain their body without their Divine Core. Destroying Quirinus's Divine Core will result on their demise.[7]
Personal Skills[]
- Throne of Quirinus (EX Rank): The way of being as the highest god in the mythology system, as the god that rules over the Mediterranean world. It is a skill that has transformed from Imperial Privilege, and would originally display several Authorities, but in this work, it’s fundamentally not used as an Authority.[2][3]
- Apotheosis (B Rank): The Natural Body skill that has been transmuted together with the Saint Graph. While Romulus was born as a human, he reached the gods as Quirinus.[2][3]
- Nine Lives - Roma (A Rank): A Noble Phantasm of the same name, expressed as a Skill. Romulus’ hand reaches far, and pierces all.[3] Quirinus claims that his arms are made out of light, and refers to them as the Grand Lances.[6] If we were to liken the romantic dream contained in Quirinus's arms to a lance, their lance is excessively large and excessively sharp.[2][3]
Noble Phantasm[]
Quirinus's main Noble Phantasm is Per Aspera Ad Astra, the concept of the expansion and development of civilization abstracted into a Noble Phantasm. Their pair of arms are the romantic dream that tears the World apart, opens the way for civilization, and tries to one day reach the stars in the cosmos. Like a lance of light. Sherlock Holmes and Da Vinci mentioned the possibility that this is a downsized version of an aspect of the nation-building Authority, or its practical application.[2][3] While it was strong enough to injure Zeus with 35% of his Authority released, it didn't cause any noticeable damage.[6]
Quirinus's second Noble Phantasm is Nine Lives - Roma. Combat techniques devised by Heracles transmitted by the God of War Mars, who attently watched all of Heracles' sublime battles; or perhaps the tales that Heracles is Romulus' father abstracted into his new manifestation. Their combinations of punches, akin to a lance of light, can exterminate even lifeless monsters and fill the starry skies with radiant sparkles.[2][3]
Their third Noble Phantasm is Moles Necessarie.[3]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Romulus-Quirinus was designed by Hirokazu Koyama in Fate/Grand Order. His scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai in Fate/Grand Order.[3][2]
Comment from Illustrator[]
"The order I got was for them to be young, and in a full-body, shiny suit of armour. The design of the full plate was unexpectedly difficult, as it was my third time designing it for the Fate series. On the other hand, the loose clothes in their first Ascension are my personal favourite, because they were easy to decide on and make for an excellent difference. The black arms are not meant to be gloves, but rather their bare skin. Since they’re a god, I decided it was appropriate to include a few mysterious elements like that. Another example would be the gravity manipulation-ish floating feeling. The big thing on their back in their third Ascension is the Roma Converter (only I’ve called them that). The Roma Road is open." (Hirokazu Koyama)[3]
