A Saberface (セイバー顔, Seibākao?), also called Artoriaface (アルトリア顔, Arutoriakao?), is the term used to describe characters who look similar to Artoria Pendragon.
Characteristics[]
Saberface, referencing Artoria's Class Name of Saber, originated from artist Takashi Takeuchi's fondness for drawing variations of Artoria, and over the years it has become something of a tradition for works in the Fate series to include a Saberface character. While many examples of Saberfaces such as Nero Claudius look almost identical, others such as Jeanne d'Arc are more distinct but still similar enough to qualify. For example, Gilles de Rais in Fate/Zero mistook Artoria for Jeanne, while Lancelot in the Orleans Singularity mistook Jeanne for Artoria.
In Fate/Grand Order, Saberface is a trait that several Servants have for gameplay purposes. Berserker Lancelot and Caster Gilles will always focus their attacks on Saberfaces, ignoring anyone else until the Saberface is dead. Mysterious Heroine X's Noble Phantasm Secret-Calibur does bonus damage against Saberfaces.
Besides Artoria herself, the first Saberface was Mordred who debuted in Character material in 2006.
Gray is unique among Saberfaces in that she was not born as one. Her appearance transformed to look like Artoria when she was five years old.[1]
While Hippolyta has the same hairstyle as Artoria, she does not count as a Saberface due to her face being different.[2]
Artoria's designer Takashi Takeuchi jokes that his Noble Phantasm "Unlimited King of Knights" lets him create "an infinite number of characters similar to Saber".[3] Okita Souji was created specifically as a parody of Takeuchi's tendency to make Saberfaces; the joke was that Takeuchi would design a new character for Koha-Ace and he just ended up making another version of Saber.
