Sakamoto RyoumaWP (坂本龍馬WP, Sakamoto Ryōma?), Class Name Rider (ライダー, Raidā?). is the Masterless Rider-class Servant summoned by the Counter Force in the Imperial Capital Holy Grail Strange Story of Fate/KOHA-ACE and Fate/type Redline. He is also summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Sakamoto Ryouma was driving force behind the Satsuma and Choshu allianceWP, founder of the Kameyama Shochu (Later the KaientaiWP), and one of the patriots who worked towards the restoration of Imperial Rule and contributed greatly to the Meiji RestorationWP.[2]
In Japan where the ‘Imperial Capital Holy Grail Strange Story’ war was held, he is a heroic spirit whose degree of fame rivals that of Oda Nobunaga, and a powerful servant with a peculiar type of mounted noble phantasm. To conceal his true name, he usually speaks in a fluent standard dialect, but at times his Tosa dialectWP comes out.[2]
His partner Oryou-san is not that historical individual, but a certain something that was sealed and bound to a certain mountain. In his youthful indiscretion, Ryouma pulled out the spear that bound her and released her unto the world.[2]
History[]
"I don't want anyone slain. I don't want anyone gunned down."[2]
At first, it was for the sake of the kid in the neighborhood, then for the sake of a friend in his hometown, then the sake of the comrades who shared his spirit, and finally the sake of the country of Japan. This natural-born simple soul, from the very start to the end, raced headlong through the era for nothing more than another’s sake.[2]
Sakamoto Ryouma, a low-ranking samurai from the Tosa domain. One of the shishi) who contributed the most to the Meiji Restoration, being the central figure of the Satchou Alliance, founder of the Kaientai, and proposer of the restoration of imperial rule.
As a child, he was considered an underachiever, to the point he was expelled from his cram school supposedly for bad results. But once he started his sword training, his skills increased remarkably fast.
Later on, he travels to Edo to study swordsmanship and joins the Chiba dojo to train the Hokushin Ittouryuu. At the time, Commodore Perry’s fleet of American black ships come to the Uraga seas and seeing that was very meaningful for the later parts of his life.
After returning to Tosa, he joins the Tosa Loyalist Party formed by Takechi Zuizan. However, he later deserts Tosa to live in the Chiba dojo in Edo. There he finally meets Katsu Kaishuu and becomes his disciple. This encounter would lead to great changes in Japan’s history later down the line.
Thanks to Katsu Kaishuu’s intervention, he was absolved from the crime of desertion. Then he did everything he could to advance Katsu Kaishuu’s plans of founding a training grounds for marines. And when that’s done, he works there as a head naval instructor.
The changing trends of the time lead to the start of a suppression movement against the Tosa Loyalist Party, casting a dark shadow over his friends Takechi and Izou. Ryouma even receives orders to return to his land, but he ignores it, branding him a deserter for the second time.
In 1865, after multiple incidents like the Ikedaya Incident and Kinmon Rebellion, he founds the Kameyama Shachuu (later known as the Kaientai), an organization very similar in personality to modern corporations.
Through deals of arms and ammunition, he achieves the great feat of mediating the long-time enemies Choushuu and Satsuma, forming the Satchou Alliance.
At that time, events like the Teradaya Incident, where Ryouma’s dissenters go after his life, started becoming more frequent, but that didn’t stop him.
He continued his work, which included writing a project for new national structure, titled Eight Proposals While Shipboard. However, 1 month after the emperor returns to power, he is assassinated in Oomiya, Kyoto. Died aged 33.
Liked by few, found creepy by all, he finally left the world a murdered man, yet he bore no resentment and held not a grudge. Yes, from his beginning to his end, he dreamed of a world where they could all live a happy life. That’s all there ever was.[2]
Appearance[]
Rider appears to be an aloof young man in his mid-twenties,[2] with long hair tied back by a blue ribbon. He adorns a white suit with gold buttons and shoulder pads, and a matching hat with a blue band. At his side, he carries a katana (Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki) in western style and a Smith&Wesson No.2 Army Revolver.
A mysterious beautiful woman is always by his side.[2]
Personality[]
While a master of the Hokushin Ittou style of swordplay, he was a soft soul who disliked conflict by nature.[2]
Sakamoto Ryouma, the Hero of the Restoration. An aloof man on his mid-20s. He may be a master of the Hokushin Ittouryuu, but he’s actually a kindhearted guy who dislikes conflict to his very core.
In a Holy Grail War set in Japan, he would be a powerful Servant with a unique type of Riding Noble Phantasm and fame levels that rival Oda Nobunaga.
In order to hide his True Name, he speaks in standard textbook Japanese, but he lets some Tosa regional expression slip every now and then.
He left his name in history without trying to, just by doing everything he could for the kind people around him.
The problem with his personality is that he’s easy to like and easy to misunderstand. Since he acts so aloof, no one can tell what his intentions are, furthering the problem.
For that reason, he lived a life with many allies and many enemies.
Ryouma, at the heights of his youthful impetuosity, pulls off the sealing spear and releases her.

Role[]
Fate/KOHA-ACE[]
Sakamoto Ryouma is one of the Servants appearing in Fate/KOHA-ACE. The Imperial Capital Holy Grail Strange Story was later re-adapted in a more serious tone in Fate/type Redline.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Fate/Grand Order[]
GUDAGUDA: Legend of the Imperial Capital Grail[]
Ryouma is summoned by the Counter Force to stop the Singularity's Holy Grail War.[12] Setting up a detective agency as a base, he began investigating and learned the rules of this particular Grail War.[13] With Oryou, he killed the official Rider, thereby allowing everyone involved in the war to think he's an official participant.[12] He also learned that Tokyo is surrounded by an invisible barrier that neither human nor Servant can pass through.[13]
Later, Ryouma and Oryou save Ritsuka and Okita Alter from being killed by Oda Nobunaga. Concerned for Ritsuka's wound, Ryouma decides they should fall back. He asks Okita Alter if she'd like to come with them. Okita Alter, previously unable to speak, accepts his offer. The group then runs, with Oryou carrying Ritsuka, while being chased by Nobbu. After escaping, Ryouma assures the bullet didn’t hit any of Ritsuka’s vital organs.[14]
Bringing Ritsuka and Okita Alter to his office, Ryouma has Oryou use her healing saliva on Chaldea's Master. Once they're awake, he decides to explain the situation and asks Oryou to make tea for their guests. He then explains the city's Holy Grail War. Okita Alter wonders if she is also a Servant competing for a class title. Ryouma isn't sure since she's the only Servant he's seen with a Master thus far, and asks why she is with Ritsuka. Okita Alter answers that Ritsuka was there when she came to and feels she has to stay with them no matter what. Leonardo da Vinci and Mash then make contact, which surprises Ryouma since Tokyo is quarantined. Da Vinci realizes the quarantined space of Tokyo was the reason they couldn’t locate Ritsuka after they were rayshifted. Ryouma explains his goal is to either retrieve or destroy the Grail. Da Vinci deduces a few points on the leyline form the barrier that maintains Tokyo’s space and time. She identifies a few coordinates that Ryouma agrees to investigate. A third party then starts to interfere with communications, so she sends the coordinates before communications are cut. Before leaving to check on the other Servants' movements, Ryouma tells Ritsuka to stay since their wound isn't completely healed. He also asks if they'll help with his work, offering them compensation if they do. He and Oryou then leave the office to begin their investigation.[13]
Upon leaving, Oryou asks Ryouma if he's sure about Ritsuka and Okita Alter. Ryouma answers he finds Ritsuka to be a perfectly nice person and their friends at Chaldea to be very capable. But Oryou elaborates on her question, saying she meant to ask if it's fine for Ritsuka and Okita (whom she considers weaklings) to watch over the office. Ryouma tells her it is and suspects something about Okita Alter.[13]
Ryouma and Oryou locate several anchors formed from Grail fragments and learn official Servants form their territories around them. Unfortunately, during their investigation, they are caught by Okita Souji trespassing on her territory. They flee from her when they see Okada Izou about to kill Okita Alter. Fortunately, Oryou blocks his attack. Ryouma is so surprised to see Izou that his Tosa dialect comes out. Izou attacks Ryouma for betraying him in life, but again Oryou blocks his attack. Ryouma feels guilty that he caused Izou's death but says there isn't time for a confrontation now. It is then that Okita finally catches up. Ryouma has Oryou carry Ritsuka, Okita Alter, and Izou as they make their escape.[15]
Back in the office, Ryouma allows Izou to strike him as revenge for his betrayal. Though it's a serious wound, he says he can deal with it if it helps make Izou feel better. He also knows he'd be dead if Izou was serious about killing him. Oryou heals him with her saliva and reminds him that if he dies so does she. Izou tells Ryouma that he still doesn't forgive him, claiming he doesn't feel like killing him now. Ryouma then relays what he learned in his investigation. Da Vinci concludes that since the Singularity is maintained by the Grail fragments, it will be corrected once they’re destroyed. Before communications are cut off again, she explains the anchors and territories act in parallel to each other, meaning a Servant's blessing from the Grail gets weaker as their territory shrinks. The group's objective is now clear: whittle down the Servants' territories and sever their connection to the Grail. Ryouma convinces Izou to help by mentioning that Okita and another Shinsengumi member will be tough opponents.[16] He has him accompany Ritsuka and Okita Alter to Lancer's territory. Okita Alter is uneasy about Izou, though, given that he tried to kill Ritsuka a moment ago. But Ryouma assures her that Izou takes all his jobs very seriously.[17]
Ryouma and Oryou later goes to Berserker's territory located in a park. Oryou surmises from the wanton destruction that the Berserker killed anyone who was nearby. Ryouma wonders how they'll find Berserker when Oryou notices Hijikata Toshizou behind him. The Shinsengumi Vice-Commander immediately asks Ryouma if he's with Satsuma or Choshu. Ryouma recognizes him and comments Izou isn't the only person from his person. Hijikata repeats his question, saying refusal to answer will be answer enough. Ryouma and Oryou then fight him but are soon forced to retreat back to the office.[17]
Ritsuka and Okita Alter return from defeating Lancer. Ryouma tells the two about his and Oryou's encounter with Hijikata. Da Vinci confirms the anchor under Lancer's control has been destroyed. Ryouma apologizes he couldn't defeat Hijikata, so he'll try to destroy his anchor tomorrow. He then notices Izou's absence and asks if he'll be back soon. Ritsuka tells him that Izou left them and Okita Alter after they defeated Lancer, declaring they'll be enemies when they next meet. Ryouma is glad to hear that Izou isn't dead and describes him as being more sensitive than one might think. He decides it's best to leave Izou be for now. Oryou tells Ryouma to use his energy on worrying about her instead. Ryouma replies that he's always worried about her.[18]
The next day, Ryouma and Oryou return to the park and try fighting Hijikata again. They struggle against him like before until Hijikata stops the fight once Ryouma mentions Okita.[19] Hijikata recalls Okita's sister, Mitsu, once told him that Okita nearly died at birth. Ryouma, understanding what Mitsu did to save her sister, realizes Okita lived on borrowed time. Hijikata suspects Okita Alter has been summoned to repay Okita's debt. Ryouma agrees and states her Spirit Origin has been tuned to exhaust itself all at once for the Counter Force. Comparing her to a bomb, he says nothing will be left of her Spirit Origin once she goes off. Hijikata responds that Okita's debts are hers to settle, so it's none of their business. But they can at least lend her a hand. Ryouma and Hijikata then enter into a ceasefire to help Okita Alter when the time comes.[20]
Returning to the office, Ryouma reveals he has located Okita and Nobunaga thanks to Chaldea’s intel. He couldn't locate Caster, though, so they’ll have to wait for them to make a move. Okita Alter has the unshakable feeling that she needs to see Okita again. Ryouma tells her she will meet Okita again if she truly is another aspect of her. He and Oryou then leave for Nobunaga's territory.[18]
Ryouma and Oryou arrive at Nobunaga’s territory after breaking through her forces. He informs Nobunaga that his investigation has led him to conclude that she is the key to the Grail War. Nobunaga accuses him of abandoning the war, but Oryou reveals she already killed the official Rider. Ryouma proclaims he is only in Tokyo because the World called to him. He then activates Like a Soaring Dragon and fights Nobunaga.[12] Unfortunately, Oryou is soon killed and disappears, telling Ryouma that she failed to keep him safe again. Ryouma thanks her and remarks that she should have ascended without worrying about him. Nobunaga declares she will destroy this world and move on to the next. Ryouma doubts that and tells Nobunaga that she isn't herself. He then collapses from his wounds, saying someone else will have to finish the job on his behalf.[21]
Fortunately, he is saved and returned to the office by Oda Nobukatsu/Nobunaga. There he recuperates enough for Oryou to rematerialize as she is his Noble Phantasm. They then overhear Nobunaga and Da Vinci's explanation to Ritsuka and Okita Alter that the Grail War is a ritual by Caster to forge a Spirit Origin of the highest purity in a similar vein to Kodoku Ritual. Afterward, everyone decides to stop Caster's plan when Izou decides to join; Ryouma recognizes the outfit he is wearing. They then leave to locate Caster.[21]
The group invades the Magus Facility, where they are confronted by many Heroic Spirit Soldiers. Ryouma, Oryou, and Izou stay behind to hold them off while the others proceed into the Grail's chamber. After fighting so many Heroic Spirit Soldiers, though, the three are left injured and exhausted. But just when they're about to be killed, Hijikata arrives like Ryouma expected.[22] After helping them, he bursts into the Grail's Chamber followed by Ryouma and Oryou. As Hijikata, Ryouma, and Oryou kill Akechi Mitsuhide's soldiers, Izou stabs Akechi through the back. Nobunaga uses this chance to take back her body. After seeing Nobunaga won’t accept his vision of an ideal world, Akechi decides to become the true Nobunaga and pours the Grail’s mud on himself to become a horrible monstrosity: Demon King of the Sixth Heaven. The group tries fighting him, but all of their attacks are ineffective. Okita Alter tells them to do something about the Grail in his chest then she’ll finish it. Hijikata and Izou attack Akechi followed by Nobunaga and Ryouma using Demon King of the Sixth Heaven and Like a Soaring Dragon together.[19] As both Noble Phantasms assail Akechi, Hijikata attacks him with his own Noble Phantasm followed by Izou removing the Grail from his chest. But then Izou notices Ryouma and Oryou are disappearing from using the last of their magical energy. Ryouma apologizes to Izou and disappears with Oryou, saying Okita Alter will handle the rest.[20]
After the Singularity is resolved, however, Izou calls out to Ryouma. Ryouma appears and is disappointed in himself that Izou deduced he faked his death in case something else came up. He admits that since he and Okita Alter have a lot in common, he thought it would be safer to fake his death. But he is glad to see he had nothing to worry about. Izou is annoyed but he is glad that he and Ryouma can just talk in the end. Ryouma agrees and wonders when they talked last with just the two of them. He corrects himself to three, though, when Oryou reminds him she is still here. The Grail's chamber then explodes.[23]
Somehow Ryouma and Oryou are blasted to near Chaldea. They enter the facility and go into Ritsuka's room, where Ryouma requests to join Chaldea. He then notices Okita Alter is there and figures that Izou has returned to the Throne. He wonders why he's still around and assumes it means his work isn't finished. Oryou asks him what's wrong. Ryouma tells her that he was just thinking about how being with Chaldea is going to be the most fun job he's had in a long time.[24]
Later, Ritsuka asks for Ryouma and Oryou's help against Katou Medeaki, one of Chacha's Seven Imperial Spears, as Riders are effective against Casters. Immediately suspicious of Ryouma, Medeaki asks Oryou if he's being totally honest with her. Confused, Oryou asks Ryouma if he's been tricking her. Ryouma insists he hasn't, and Oryou accepts that he would never lie to her. Ryouma then suggests they go on a trip sometime soon since being with Chaldea has given them a little more free time. Oryou, elated by the idea, proposes visiting Takachiho again or something. Medeaki stands there silently for a moment before snapping and voicing her disdain for PDA. The group then defeat her in battle.[25]
Ryouma is later surprised to see Izou again, commenting that his outfit takes him back to his Kyoto days. Izou immediately gets mad at Ryouma, believing he tricked him again. Ryouma panics as he tries to explain what happened. Ritsuka's party then defeats Izou with the help of Kasuya Heroine X.[26]

However, Rider's words does not reach Saber to stop their fight and prepare to them again in her weak condition. He senses something off and tells Oryou to wait as he unexpectedly meet Saber's Master, Kanata. He is later seen greeting Kanata and he does the same thing.
Abilities[]
Sakamoto Ryouma is a Counter Force Servant empowered by the World to stop Oda Nobunaga, who has become a Threat to Humanity.[9][12] In a Holy Grail War set in Japan, he would be a powerful Servant with a unique type of Riding Noble Phantasm and Fame levels that rival Oda Nobunaga.[1] Although Nobunaga regards Sakomoto's Noble Phantasm in high regard, she states that Sakomoto himself is an especially weak Heroic Spirit. Sakamoto agrees, adding that compared to her, almost every other Heroic Spirit aiding Chaldea during the Imperial Tokyo Singularity is third-rate at best.[21] Sakamoto states that Okita Souji Alter is on a completely different level than him, in every possible sense.[20] Oryou also believes that Mori Nagayoshi doesn't compare to Sakamoto Ryouma at all, and that he wouldn't like to see her when she is angry.[27]
Although he is best suited in the Rider class, it would also be possible to summon him as a Lancer. If that were the case, he would possess the spear Ama-no-Sakahoko rather than the Dragon of Restoration.[30]
Combat[]
His armaments are the Katana Mutsu-no-Kami Yoshiyuki and a Pistol. Ryouma is a master of the Hokushin Ittō-ryūWP style of swordplay, which he uses proficiently with his katana. He also uses gracious pair-up attacks with his partner Oryou.

His partner, Oryou, is not that historical figure, but a rebellious something that had been sewed on a certain mountain while in a sealed state. She was released when Ryouma ended up pulling out the seal's pike in a youthful indiscretion.
The black-haired woman who follows Ryouma by his side, Oryou.
Having fallen in love at first sight with Ryouma upon being saved from her sealed state in a certain mountain, she forced herself at his side(1) under the pretext of repaying the favour. Strictly speaking she is not a dragon, but a mizuchi or an orochi that is closer to a mononoke - anyway, a lesser existence than a dragon.
Maybe she supported achievements during the Bakumatsu from the shadows. Or maybe not.
Incidentally, she was unfortunately away back when Ryouma met his final moments, and thus was unable to save him.
Lost in sadness, she disappeared to the bottom of the sea without people knowing, never turning into a dragon and ascending to heavens.
Level 5 Bond
----I didn't want to cut down anyone,
nor I wanted to shoot anyone.
At first, it was for the sake of the kids in the neighbourhood, then for the sake of his hometown friends, and finally for the sake of the country of Japan.
A softhearted person by nature, from beginning until the end, he did nothing but continue to rush across the era for the sake of somebody else. Loved by some, hated by others, he would ultimately leave this world after being ruthlessly killed, but he neither resents nor regrets that. From beginning until the end, he dreamed about a world where everybody could live at ease. That was all there was.
(1) the term used here is the same for "a woman who forced her husband into marriage"
(2) roughly, 'like a soaring dragon'
