Shibata KatsuieWP (柴田勝家?), Class Name Berserker (バーサーカー, Bāsākā?), is a Berserker-class Servant appearing in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Berserker's True Name is Shibata KatsuieWP (柴田勝家?), a trusted general of Oda Nobunaga, second husband of Nobunaga's sister Oichi, and stepfather of Chacha.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Despite his Class of Berserker, his manner of speech does not appear overly impaired, as he is still able to speak without issue, and even recognizes individuals such as Oda Nobukatsu and converses with him. Nobukatsu believes him to be a "simpleton, but not a bad guy", claiming he's changed so much since the last time he'd seen Katsuie. However, he still appears to have taken actions of his past very poorly, such as regretting being convinced by Nobukatsu to stand with him in his revolt against Nobunaga, as well as his own cowardice causing the death of Lady Oichi after Nobunaga's death. He also shows anger towards Monkey for running the Oda Clan into the ground. For those reasons, he mentions he wishes to serve Nobunaga again to the utmost, desiring to redeem his lapse in judgement when he failed to put his faith in her. He also shows extreme adoration for Chacha, revering her akin to his own Daughter, and feeling joy at being accepted as "Father" by her.

Class Skills[]
Personal Skills[]
- Kakaru Shibata (掛かれ柴田?): Derived from a nickname expressing Shibata's bravery.
- Kakarei, Kakarei...! (カカレェ、カカレェイ……!?): A shout when advancing forward.
- Bottle-breaking Shibata (瓶割り柴田?): Based on an anecdote from fighting the Rokkaku clanWP.
- Stone Lantern Slash (石灯籠斬り, Ishitourou-giri?): Shibata's Noble Phantasm attack in game. Taken from the anecdote of his wakizashi Nikkari Aoe (『にっかり青江』?) being used to cut down a ghost on the road at night, when the samurai responsible returned the next day he found a stone lantern slashed. The blade would eventually be passed into the hands of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Noble Phantasm[]
Mori Nagayoshi's Boneless Man has no effects on Shibata.[1][5] Rather than the attacks not working on him, Nagao Kagetora states that it is better to say that he doesn't pay them any attention. It is speculated by Ritsuka Fujimaru and Sakamoto Ryouma that Shibata possesses a Noble Phantasm that allows him to grow stronger with every step he takes. Him having an extraordinary healing ability seems entirely possible too, as there are Servants capable of similar feats in Chaldea. However, neither ability can last forever. It takes an enormous amount of Magical Energy to power that ability, and it only covers a certain distance. Even a Noble Phantasm that increases its user's power the further the user gets from its activation point has to have a limit. In other words, this ability can't make its user any stronger once they leave its range. If there wasn't a limit to this ability, there would be nothing stopping Shibata from laying waste to an entire Japanese province.[1]
During the Sengoku Singularity, Shibata is strengthened by Demon King Nobunaga's Magical Energy.[3] Even with the support of armorless Mori Nagayoshi, Nagao Kagetora is unable to harm Shibata, and she states that she would need her Noble Phantasm to stop him. However, when Shibata became so powerful Oryou claims even she might have a hard time against him, Kagetora regrets not having used it earlier on while she had the chance.[1] At this point, Kagetora is fairly certain she could at least hold him back, but she knows she can't defeat him.[3] She says that even if Li Shuwen, Summer Nobbu, Oda Kipposhi, Mori, and herself all worked together, they wouldn't be able to defeat him, and that all they can do is wear him down so that he runs out of mana faster.[2] It isn't until Hijikata Toshizou and Okita Souji arrive later on that Hijikita claims that the two of them, along with Chaldea's Nobunaga, Oda Kipposhi, Li Shuwen, Kagetora, and Mori should be able to overwhelm Shibata with sheer numbers. Oda Kipposhi proposes they hit him with all their Noble Phantasms at once, to which Kagetora replies they'll have to if they don't find a better way.[4] When they all finally fight him, Okita is impressed he doesn't go down, and Li Shuwen states that fighting him is like fighting a boulder. Oda Nobukatsu tricks him by reminding him of his past sins. Shibata doubting himself results in his Saint Graph weakening enough for the others to finally overwhelm him. Although Shibata intended to keep fighting them, Chacha told him to stand down. Thanks to calling him "father", Shibata finally accepts his faith and fades away.[5]
