The Shin Yamatai-koku Singularity is a Singularity during the Human Order Revision in Fate/Grand Order.
The events of Chaldea's visit to this Singularity are covered in an event of Cosmos of the Lostbelt; Overwhelming Tea Ceremony Battle: GUDAGUDA Shin Yamatai-koku -The Man Who Returned from Hell- (ぶっちぎり茶の湯バトル ぐだぐだ新邪馬台国 地獄から帰ってきた男?), referring to the seventh collaboration between Fate/Grand Order and GUDAGUDA ACE.

History[]
The Man Who Returned from Hell[]
Even with Yamatai-koku, Iyo is still guiding lost souls to the light by herself, much to her annoyance. But suddenly she senses the Dark Blight even though all the inhuman creatures’ souls should have been turned to light. Yamanami Keisuke tells her not of all them.[1]
Ritsuka and their team arrive in what is supposedly Yamatai-koku somehow returned following an SOS Chaldea had detected there. Seeing as Leonardo da Vinci refuses to help, Oda Nobunaga asks Himiko what is going on because they’re clearly not in the same Yamatai-koku as before. Himikio (communicating from Chaldea) admits she doesn’t know either.[1]
After Da Vinci cuts comms off due to the connection being unstable, Nobunaga feels someone tugging at her cloak. She at first assumes it’s Okita Souji Alter, but it isn’t her, nor is it Okita Souji nor Ritsuka. She loses her patience and turns around to see it’s a child tugging at her cloak. The child asks Nobunaga to follow him.[1]
Okita notices the child is injured and offers to carry him. He is too scared of her, but he accepts a piggyback ride from Okita Alter. The Chaldeans hurry to the spot the child is pointing towards.[1]
They come upon a fight between Iyo and a wolf-headed man. The man defeats her and moves in to finish her off when Nobunaga shoots and misses him. She prepares to unleash Three Line Formation but Okita stops her, correctly suspecting that Iyo is a friend of the child.[1]
At the child’s behest, Okita Alter rushes to help Iyo, failing to notice at first the child was still clung onto her. Ritsuka and the others go after her.[1]
Okita Alter arrives on the scene and fortunately, the child is perfectly fine. Iyo questions why he would come back when she just helped him to escape. The child answers that he wanted to help him, for which Iyo is grateful. She also recognizes Okita Alter, but the latter does not recognize her. Okita Alter then fights the man.[1]
During the battle, Okita Alter notes how weird and wrong the man’s sword feels. The others soon arrive; the man recognizes them. He sics his minions on them while he goes to kill Iyo.[1]
Nobunaga finally recognizes Iyo, failing to do so before because Iyo didn’t have a body before. Iyo promises to explain after they’ve dealt with the beastmen. Warned not to touch the muck covering them, the heroes fight the beastmen.[1]
With his minions defeated, the man orders a retreat, but Okita refuses to let that happen. He makes it looks he is going to break through Iyo, only for him to have one of his beastmen to ambush the child. Fortunately, Okita Alter saves the child just in time. The man is impressed she anticipated his ambush and escapes.[1]
Iyo suddenly collapses. Nobunaga wonders if there is somewhere they can let her rest when she notices Okita Alter eating something. Okita Alter reveals it is dumplings she bought from a vending machine, pointing toward at a thatched hut.[1]
Nobunaga goes to check the hut when she suddenly falls into a mud pit, struggling to keep afloat. A woman appears and invites the heroes into her teahouse for a cup of tea. She introduces herself as Sen-no-Rikyu.[1]
Let's GO to the Other World![]
Later in her teahouse, Rikyu informs the others she has treated Iyo’s injuries and having her rest in another room. Nobunaga finds it unbelievable Rikyu is a woman, considering the Rikyu she knew was a man who towered over her, not a teenage girl. Rikyu finds the change inconsequential, however.[2]
She offers the Chaldea some tea. Everyone but Okita partakes when she suddenly finds herself struggling to breathe. Nobunaga surmises Okita was poisoned, but it wasn’t from the tea, considering she didn’t drink anyway. Rikyu tells Okita it is precisely because she didn’t drink. Nobunaga realizes the air itself is poisonous. Okita drinks the tea and immediately feels better.[2]
Rikyu explains the Singularity permeates with an invisible poison, one strong enough to render even a Servant within half a day. His tea can keep those who drink it healthy by harmonizing both their body and soul. She thought she would get many customers, which is why she had vending machines installed, but they just been taking up space.[2]
Nobunaga asks Rikyu why he is running a teashop in the Singularity in the first place. Rikyu reveals he was summoned some time before the Chaldeans arrived. But as he said earlier, the Singularity is very inhospitable, even for Servants, so he hastily erected his Bounded Field——teahouse——and began preparing tea with the Magic Resistance needed to endure the atmosphere outside. Still, he couldn’t leave, not with all the beastmen around.[2]
Okita Alter complains that she is hungry, so Rikyu orders his Tea Nobbu to prepare dinner. Nobunaga demands to know why there are Nobbu here when Iyo offers to explain. She reveals the man they fought earlier was Kukochihiko.[2]
The Ishida faction's hideout
Elsewhere, Kukochihiko reports to his supposed superior about Chaldea’s arrival. His superior is unconcerned about the Chaldeans considering the nature of the Singularity. Keisukue warns him it won’t be that easy, having fought the Chaldeans alongside Kukochihiko once before in Yamatai-koku.[2]
Kukochihiko calls Keisuke a traitor for what he did back in Yamatai-koku, which Keisuke accepts. The other person tells the two of them they only need to do what he tells them. He challenges them to betray him if they think that is an option, so as long as they understand what doing so means.[2]
Still, Kukochihiko reluctantly agrees with Keisuke that the Chaldeans will not easily be defeated, so the other person agrees to be cautious. He also decides as the new administrator of New Yamatai-koku he must welcome the Chaldeans or his title isn’t Jibu-no-Shou Ishida Mitsunari.[2]
Nobunaga is shocked that Kukochihiko has somehow resurrected. Iyo suspects it is because of the Singularity, revealing it is the path souls must travel to reach the underworld. It shouldn’t exist under normal circumstances.[2]
Nobunaga asks what that has to do with the Nobbu. Iyo explains after Chaldea and Himiko left Yamatai-koku following the last incident, she stayed behind to guide the souls of the dead. At one point she found many souls had strayed from the right path and been taken prisoner in the Singularity, among which were the fragments of the purified Ominous Gods. They underwent some changes in order to survive and became ultimately Tea Nobbu thanks to Rikyu’s tea.[2]
Okita asks about the child. Iyo says she found him when she arrived in the Singularity after acquiring her temporary Spirit Origin. The child thinks his name is Shusha, though he can’t be sure only feeling that’s what he was called.[2]
Nobunaga asks Shusha why those beastmen were after him. Shusha says he was running because some scary people were chasing him. Okita asks him if he knows where his parents are, but he can’t remember.[2]
Shusha says he has somewhere he needs to go, but he can’t remember where it is, only knowing something important is waiting for him there. Iyo had agreed to help him all without asking with what first. Shusha doesn’t know where his destination is, only that it’s far away.[2]
Iyo assumes Shusha means Nirai KanaiWP, a mystical land where souls go to return home. Shusha believes that is indeed where they need to go. Ritsuka decides they will accompany Shusha. Iyo also decides she will come with.[2]
Nobunaga asks Rikyu how long his tea’s effects last. Rikyu answers they should persist for a whole day, but he reassures they will not need to keep coming back to her teahouse every day because he is coming with them and she will be bringing her teahouse with her. As for how he is going to bring her teahouse with her, he demonstrates it, the Go-an, can fly, revealing that the dark muck makes passage between the few safe islands impossible. The heroes set off in the direction Shushua pointed toward after agreeing to do errands for Rikyu in exchange for using his teahouse. [2]
Standby Cha-no-yu[]
Kukochihiko performs some sort of ritual. Mitsunari asks him how much longer it’s going to take. Kukochihiko answers he doesn’t know, much to the frustration of Mitsunari.[3]
Changing the subject, Kukochihiko asks Mitsunari what has become of the Chaldeans. Mitsunari says thanks to his information network, they should know soon enough when Keisuke arrives with a report that they’ve located the Chaldeans.[3]
He reports they have opened a tea shop selling tea to lost souls. Mitsunari believes the Chaldeans must have a reason to collect money; Go-an is a conceptual Noble Phantasm which operates on what Rikyu desires the most, which in this case is money. He decides they will do the same as well.[3]
Later that night, after the heroes have finished with their shift, Nobunaga inquires how the souls of the dead could have established a new Yamatai-koku. Rikyu explains after the Singularity became overrun with dead souls, Mitsunari appeared. He was instrumental in supporting Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s reign and it has thanks to him that the Singularity was turned into a proper nation. Nobunaga presumes Mitsunari has a Holy Grail helping him.[3]
Iyo asks Rikyu how their magical energy situation is. Rikyu believes if they keep doing business as they have, they should have what they need in about ten days. Everyone goes to bed.[3]
The next morning, Iyo shows everyone that a new teahouse has been established right in front of theirs: Ishida Teahouse. It is unfortunately more popular than the Go-an because, although the tea tastes the same, it is much cheaper. As they cannot risk lowering their own prices, Nobunaga decides they’ll have to provide some added value by renovating.[3]
Mitsunari remarks how easy what was to surpass the heroes’ business, noting how it’s impossible for a business to lose if they provide better quality at a lower price than their competition. Kukochihiko understands, but questions why go through all that trouble in the first place when it’d be easier just to crush them outright. Mitsunari remembers Hideyoshi once told him to enjoy a bit of frivolity now and then and warning his bluntness will earn him no followers. But to answer Kukochihiko’s questions, he says he has no right to stop the heroes if they’re conducting business in accordance with his laws.[3]
Suddenly, a beastman comes in and reports that sales at Ishida Teahouse have dropped significantly. The heroes were able to attract more customers by including extra paraphernalia (such as a shinsengumi uniform) and holding raffles with every purchase. He and some other beastmen tried to wreck their shop but were defeated. Mitsunari has him taken away to be severely punished for breaking the law by attacking the heroes’ shop. [3]
Keisuke asks Mitsunari what shall be done about the Chaldeans. Mitsunari proclaims it’s time for Keisuke to show what he can do and grants him what Keisuke assumes is the Dark Blight. Kukochihiko corrects him it’s actually his clan’s power: the power of the Ancestral Beast. Mitsunari mentions he endured this power as well, so he excepts no less from Keisuke.[3]
After Keisuke shows he has adapted to the power, Mitsunari entrusts him with the task of dealing with the Chaldeans and tells him to ask Kukochihiko about how to use his new power. As for himself, he needs to prepare to welcome their lord. Kukochihiko starts training Keisuke in how to use his clan’s power.[3]
Straight to Your Heart[]
A flashback shows Mitsunari arguing with Hideyoshi about his decision to ignore Rikyu’s alleged illegal selling of weapons because he sees the latter as a father figure. But later, Hideyoshi changed his mind and ordered Mitsunari to kill Rikyu, even telling him to falsify evidence.[4]
In the present, the heroes find themselves in an area thick with fog; Rikyu went off on his own to search for tea ingredients. The fog soon clears to reveal they are in old Yamatai-koku. The residents are elated to see Iyo has returned and hold a feast for her and her compatriots.[4]
But following the feast, everyone except for Okita Alter and Iyo start to feel sleepy. Iyo implores them to stay awake, but to no avail. With no other recourse, Iyo embraces Ritsuka and enters their dreams.[4]
Ritsuka is in darkness, but otherwise they are fine. Iyo explains they’re under a cursed onced used by the denizens of Kunakoku, a mental interference spell that casts its targets into darkness and gradually eats away at their hearts. It starts by dulling the target’s perception, then numbs their mind, before putting them to sleep, leaving them defenseless. But this is only the first phase because the real problem comes next.[4]
An illusion of a Yamatai-koku resident appears and admonishes for allegedly abandoning her kingdom. He declares the only she can make amends is with her life, calling her a cursed, ruinous shrine maiden.[4]
Iyo explains while they sleep, the resentment takes physical form and eats away at their hearts. She tries to destroy the illusion, but she is too weak to do even that. Ritsuka forms a contract with her (after some heavy hinting from her) allowing her to fight as a proper Servant.[4]
After Iyo destroys the illusion, she and Ritsuka try to proceed on ahead when they’re confronted by an illusion of Kukochihiko. He calls shrine maiden of ruin and asks her if he is going to abandon Yamatai-koku like she did Kuna. Iyo confirms he is an illusion created from her own heart and states they need to defeat him to escape the spell. The illusion of Kukochihiko demands Iyo to Kunakoku’s ancient beast god. Iyo fights the illusion of Kukochihiko with RItsuka, calling him her past self.[4]
Defeated, the illusion of Kukochihiko warns Iyo she can never escape her fate. He disappears, calling her a cursed child destined to destroy everything. Ritsuka and Iyo proceed onward to save the others.[4]
Ritsuka and Iyo wake up inside a cave. Iyo reveals the Yamatai-koku they saw earlier was a vision projected into their minds meant to dull their perception.[4]
She is surprised to see Okita Alter is awake as well. Okita Alter admits she did fall sleep, but she quickly woke up, surprising Iyo given the former has no defense against curses. Shusha also woke pretty quickly.[4]
Nobunaga and Okita are still asleep, however. Iyo prepares to save them before the resentment turns them into empty husks, but Ritsuka seriously doubts that will happen. Iyo is confused by what they mean until she hears Nobunaga enjoying herself killing all her treacherous retainers.[4]
As for Okita, she kills illusions of common Shinsengumi soldiers when she encounters Keisuke. She remembers Keisuke previously died in Yamatai-koku, so she thinks he is an impostor. Keisuke claims he came back from hell, but Okita still tries to kill him using Lightless, Three-Stage Thrust.[4]
Keisuke survives but loses an arm. He realizes he should have expected this when relying on curses he is unfamiliar with. Okita tries to attack him, but Keisuke casts her out.[4]
Okita jolts up awake, hitting her on her head on the also awake Nobunaga. Iyo is shocked everyone had escaped on their own, bemoaning how she had to practically begged Ritsuka for a contract just to escape herself. A voice coming outside sympathizes with her.[4]
The heroes exit the cave to find Keisuke. Okita demands to know what he is doing here. Keisuke responds that he already told her he came from hell.[4]
Iyo asks him how was able to use the curse from earlier since it should have been lost when Kunakoku was destroyed. Keisuke confesses Kukochihiko taught him. Nobunaga decides to kill him, but he escapes before she can.[4]
After he is gone, Okita and Nobunaga both confess it took all they had to remain conscious during the curse, surprising Iyo that it was all a bluff. That aside, Nobunaga is surprised the Shinsengumi even had a sorcerer. Okita says they never had anyone who could use magecraft, but Keisuke was always, so it’s possible he learned how. Iyo thinks it’s definitely possible if Kukochihikio taught him.[4]
On the subject of Kukochihiko, Iyo reveals his current appearance is how he looked in his youth before Dark Blight consumed him and how he looked when he taught her.[4]
Expecting Someone Who May or May Not Come[]
Keisuke dreams about the time he once indirectly confided with a geisha by the name of Akesato he was friends with about his doubts regarding the Shinsengumi. His conversation with her seemed to have fueled his decision to desert the Shinsengumi.[5]
He wakes up to see the arm Okita had cut off has come back, much to his surprise. Kukochihiko is impressed that he destroyed part of his own curse-empowered Spirit Origin, but he notices the scars on his arm and asks if they’ve always been there. Keisuke is surprised he could tell their old scars and admits even now he can’t always move his arm like he wants. Kukochikio sympathizes with the fact that even as a Heroic Spirit, Keisuke cannot escape the karma he built up in his life.[5]
Changing the subject, Kukochihiko asks Keisuke why he killed Serizawa Kamo asking if it was because he was in the Shinsengumi’s way. Keisuke answers it has their way of showing their sincerity, but he isn’t sure whether they made the right choice. Kukochihiko dismisses Keisuke as just another traitor. Keisuke agrees, but he asks Kukochihiko what he is. Kukochihiko leaves without saying anything.[5]
Iyo confesses she wasn’t originally from Yamatai-koku rather, she was born to serve as a shrine maiden to Kunakoku’s beast god. Himiko discovered her during the battle where she destroyed Kunakoku and convinced her to join Yamatai-koku’s said. Nobunaga is still curious, though, how she became Himiko’s successor. Kukochihiko says it’s because she truly is the shrine maiden of ruin and traitor to her kind.[5]
He has come to speak with Ritsuka on behalf of Mitsunari and requests they come with him to an already arranged meeting place nearby. Okita thinks it’s an obvious trap, but Kukochihiko reassures Mitsunari never lies and always keeps his promises.[5]
Nobunaga notes even if Mitsunari has the best intentions, they can’t be sure Kukochihiko’s subordinates won’t pull something off again, like at the teahouse. She knew they weren’t acting under Mitsunari’s orders because if he wanted to crush them, he would’ve sent a proper army, not a bunch of thugs. Kukochihiko reassures Mitsunari has already punished those responsible, but Okita tells him that still doesn’t give them a reason to trust him.[5]
Kukochihiko asks what would then. Nobunaga suggests if Mitsunari wants to speak with Ritsuka, he come meet them himself. Kukochihiko agrees to inform Mitsunari, much to the surprise of Nobunaga.[5]
The heroes ask Rikyu if they can use the Go-an as their meeting place with Mitsunari. Rikyu allows it but he will not be present because his death was the result of Hideyoshi and Mitsunari charging her with crimes he never committed, so she’d rather not see Mitsunari. She is certain she’d only ruin the discussion if she were to attend. With that said, Rikyu takes her leave.[5]
Nobunaga tells Okita to keep an eye on Rikyu, certain his bad blood with Mitsunari is just an excuse and he is hiding something. Until they know what it is, she wants him watched.[5]
As for the meeting, she and Iyo will attend as well. Okita Alter meanwhile will stay outside with Shusha and protect him in case the other party decides to take extreme measures.[5]
Mitsunari soon arrives. He apologizes to the heroes for his subordinates’ unlawful attempt to interfere with their business and informs them they have already been punished in accordance with the law. He also promises to compensate the heroes for the damages.[5]
Moving onto the main topic of their meeting, Mitsunari demands Ritsuka withdraw from the Singularity peacefully. Ritsuka refuses, so Mitsunari concludes they must resolve their conflict through force going forward. He expected the Chaldeans wouldn’t agree to leave, but he attended the meeting anyway because he believes there is an order to everything. He, like everyone else in New Yamatai-koku, must abide by the laws he passed.[5]
Iyo asks Mitsunari what he intends to do with all the lost souls. Mitsunari answers he will make them the foundation of New Yamatai-koku. They have nowhere to go, so he is going to gather them together and present them to his lord as loyal subjects. His lord is the king of New Yamatai-koku: Toyotomi Hideyori, the son of Hideyoshi and Chacha. He leaves, telling Ritsuka they will settle their differences on the battlefield. Nobunaga decides they need to formulate a strategy against him.[5]
Meanwhile, Keisuke discovers the beast god is very much real. There is also the manner of Mitsunari’s lord, and Keisuke realizes he must hurry. He leaves, unaware of the pale girl with long black hair watching him.[5]
Shrine Maiden of Destruction[]
Shusha meets Rengoku, Okita Alter's talking sword. Okita Alter remembers Shusha said he is going somewhere far away. Shusha admits he doesn't what it is, but he is confident there is something important there waiting for him, something that has been waiting for him for a long time. So no matter what he has to go.[6]
He asks Okita Alter if she has anywhere she has to go. Okita Alter replies she has already been there. Shusha thinks she is doing better than him, reassuring when she thinks otherwise. Nobunaga informs Okita Alter and Shusha that the meeting is over. Shusha heads back inside ahead of Okita Alter.[6]
Okita Alter implores Rengoku to let her help finish Shusha's journey, believing he has already been through enough. Rengoku gives into her request much to her appreciation. Okita Alter vows to get Shusha to his destination safely.[6]
The heroes (except Rikyu) reconvene. Okita reports Rikyu did nothing suspicious the whole time she watched him. Okita Alter and Shusha report nothing happened on their end either.[6]
Nobunaga suspects Mitsunari has a reason to be so confident when Keisuke suddenly appears, confirming Mitsunari does indeed have an ace up his sleeve. Okita prepares to kill him when Iyo implores her to stop and let her explain. Nobunaga deduces Keisuke is a double agent for Iyo.[6]
Iyo explains she first met Keisuke when she first discovered the souls that had been pouring into the Singularity. Keisuke recalls he had disappeared during the last Yamatai-koku incident, only to find himself in this Singularity. Iyo saved him just as he was wandering around, unsure of where to go or what to do. She told him about the situation, so he decided to investigate in hopes of atoning for what he and Serizawa did to the people of Yamatai-koku.[6]
As for what he learned, Keisuke reveals Mitsunari’s camp is trying to resurrect Hideyori. They’re not trying to summon him as a Servant, though, rather Mitsunari is trying to make Hideyori into a much greater king than he ever was when they were both alive. He plans to accomplish this with the Ancestral Beast, a beast that survived the Age of Gods and predates even Yamatai-koku. Iyo adds it has even ostracized in Kunakoku and reveals she was its shrine maiden.[6]
From the moment she was born a shrine maiden, Iyo has been tainted with the power of eternal darkness. Everyone ostracized her, for her power was said to destroy all who came into contact with it. It was what led Kukochihiko to choose her to become the Ancestral Beast’s vessel and confine her in a cave completely bereft of light.[6]
But after years of confinement, she was found by Himiko on the day of her final battle with Kunakoku. Himiko implored her to come with her, but Iyo declined because she had to stay to become the Ancestral Beast’s vessel and because her power would only spread doom to those around her. Himiko however told her power all depends on how you use it and revealed she is Yamatai-koku’s queen. [6]
After Himiko destroyed Kunakoku, she took Iyo in as her apprentice and Iyo became a resident of Yamatai-koku. Only Himiko and her brother knew Iyo was originally from Kunakoku. Her adoption by Himiko was how she was able to become Himiko’s apprentice and succeed her as queen.[6]
Once Iyo was gone, Kukochihiko tried to summon the Ancestral Beast using himself as a vessel, but failed becoming the abomination the Chaldeans saw in the previous Yamatai-koku. Iyo thought Himiko returned him to the light, but it seems she was wrong. Keisuke suspects the Ancestral Beast may have been involved in Kukochihiko’s return.[6]
He reveals the Ishida faction plans to deploy their beastmen army in the area up ahead and he has been trusted to command the right flank. He instructs the heroes to pretend to be hopelessly surrounded, then go on the offensive once he makes a move. The fog should make it difficult for the Ishida forces to see the whole battlefield. Nobunaga thinks Keisuke’s plan will work, especially since their forces mainly just consist of Servants and Rikyu’s tea Nobbus.[6]
Before he heads back to the Ishida camp, Keisuke asks Okita why she isn't wearing her haori this time. Caught offguard by his question at first, Okita answers that today wasn't the best time for it and points out he isn't wearing his either. Keisuke tells her only because his current outfit is better suited for when he needs to be subtle. He leaves, telling everyone to remember the plan.[7]
The Ishida faction's war camp
Meanwhile, at the Ishida camp, Mitsunari and Kukochihiko go over the strategy for the upcoming battle to eliminate the Chaldeans. They will be using the Crane Wing formation (Keisuke commanding the right flank, Kukochihiko commanding the left flank, and Mitsunari commanding the center) to surround and obliterate the enemy.[6]
Kukochihiko questions why they can’t just end in their entire army when already vastly outnumber the Chaldeans. Mitsunari admits he wouldn’t be concerned if Ritsuka didn’t have Nobunaga on their side. She alone can produce an army’s worth of firepower referring to her guns. Mitsunari reassures Kukochihiko everything will be fine so long as he follows his instructions.[6]
Keisuke arrives and reassures Mitsunari he will have no issue commanding the right flank. Mitsunari declares all that remains is to eliminate the Chaldeans then. But changing the subjects, he remarks on how the terrain reminds him of his final battle: The Battle of SekigaharaWP.[6]
Decisive Battle! The Dark Battle of Sekigahara[]
A flashback shows many of Mitsunari’s so-called allied betrayed him during the Battle of Sekigahara. Desperate, he ordered a message to be sent to Hideyori, believing with his aid the size of Tokugawa Ieyasu’s army didn’t matter and his own forces would be victorious. He vowed he would protect the Toyotomi’s legacy to the end.[7]
The battlefield upon which the heroes and the Ishida faction will do battle against one another.
In the present, formulating a strategy, Nobunaga states she will keep the center of the enemy’s forces pinned down. Okita Alter will fight the left flank: Kukochihiko’s forces. Ritsuka, Okita, and Iyo will fight the enemy’s right flank.[7]
However, it seems Okita is absent at present due to an upset stomach according to Rikyu, but she promised to join after she rested a bit. Rikyu agrees to provide aid with his Tea Nobbu, albeit for a price.[7]
A Tea Nobbu then urgently reports that Okita has begun attacking the enemy’s left flank all on her own. Okita Alter also notices the enemy is making a move as well, so the heroes charge into battle.[7]
Ritsuka and Iyo search for Okita as fight they fight the enemy when they encounter Keisuke who orders his men to capture Ritsuka.[7]
Meanwhile, Okita Alter fights Kukochihiko. She notices something strange about his sword, but she can’t tell if it’s hiding its true power or if its true power has left it.[7]
Nobunaga notices Keisuke is on their left flank and asks if he has joined their side yet; a Tea Nobbu reports he has not. Another Tea Nobbu reports the enemy army is making a move against the left flank. Nobunaga orders her unit to assault the enemy’s center and turn the battle’s tide when a Tea Nobbu reports Keisuke’s unit has nearly eliminated their left flank.[7]
With the front collapsing, Nobunaga decides to retreat, but Rikyu refuses to let her do that. He admits like Nobunaga had long suspected that he has been helping both sides. He then captures Nobunaga using a power the latter didn’t expect his Spirit Origin could be capable of.[7]
Okita Alter continues fighting Kukochihiko and his men when Keisuke arrives with a captured Ritsuka and Iyo. Keisuke demands Okita Alter lower her sword if she wishes to guarantee Ritsuka’s safety. Okita Alter lowers her sword despite Ritsuka’s insistence she escape instead, only for Kukochihiko to cut her down. Kukochihiko insists he had to do it as she was the most dangerous, pointing out that not even a blow from the sword of beasts couldn’t destroy her.[7]
The heroes are brought before Mitsunari, per his orders. He calls them the bait he needs to ensure New Yamatai-koku’s glory and prosperity for the next thousand years. He has his subordinates take them to the dungeon, reminding them to keep them alive.[7]
Meanwhile, at Chaldea, Da Vinci finishes repairing the comms. But instead of Ritsuka calling in, it is instead Rikyu and Keisuke. Keisuke tells Saitou Hajime he nearly didn't recognize him withot his haori.[7]
He informs the Chaldeans that Ritsuka has been captured by Mitsunari, who has founded New Yamatai-koku in the Singularity and is trying to use it to create a new Toyotomi era. Ritsuka and their Servants were taken prisoner while battling his forces. Keisuke requests the Chaldeans send in reinforcements to rescue them quickly; Rikyu will send the exact coordinates.[7]
Da Vinci has Rikyu confirm there is something strange in the Singularity’s air capable of halting most Servants, but Rikyu reassures her tea can counteract its effects.[7]
Rikyu confirms to Himiko that Iyo is one of the Servants captured. He implores the Chaldeans to hurry, for Mitsunari is already making preparations to welcome a new Toyotomi ruler, confirming it is Hideyori. The connection is about to be lost, so Rikyu sends the Chaldeans the coordinates before it does.[7]
Chacha assumes Hideyori is alive and demands they rayshift to the Singularity immediately, caring more about seeing her son than rescuing her fellow Chaldeans. She refuses to listen to reason, so Mori Nagayoshi stabs her, rendering her unconscious. He picks her up afterward and leaves the room. Saitou and Hijikata Toshizou take note of the fact Keisuke said "haori". The Chaldeans are left wondering who will command the Servants with Ritsuka gone.[7]
Sword of a Wild Beast[]
It is revealed Rikyu’s mentioning of Hideyori during the earlier call was part of Mitsunari’s plan to draw in the other Chaldeans, knowing Chacha would act upon hearing her son’s name. But he knew Rikyu would have difficulty getting Chaldea to trust her, which is why he used Keisuke as he was their comrade. It is also revealed Keisuke’s betrayal of the heroes was because Mitsunari had taken Akesato hostage and threatened to kill her if he didn’t do what he said. Mitsunari threatens to have Rikyu killed if he doesn’t do what is expected of her and leaves to prepare for the other Chaldeans’ arrival.[8]
Keisuke asks Rikyu why he is serving Mitsunari. Rikyu claims it’s because he is a merchant and sides with whoever pays best. Selling his comrades out for one girl, as Keisuke has done, doesn’t sense make to him from a cost-benefit standpoint. Keisuke realizes Rikyu is why Akesato is in Mitsunari’s custody. Rikyu admits he found Akesato’s soul wandering around and led Mitsunari to her.[8]
Finding that still doesn’t explain why Akesato is here in the first place, Keisuke asks what the Singularity exactly is and why he and Akesato are even here. Rikyu reveals it is a place for souls with lingering regrets, mentioning how Akesato had been searching for Keisuke. It is for those who died with regrets like Mitsunari, Keisuke, and Rikyu; A dumping ground for history’s losers. Rikyu leaves to make tea to keep the Chaldeans alive.[8]
Ritsuka briefly dreams of a pale girl with long black hair crying. They wake up in a dungeon with the others. The effects of tea were starting to wear off while they were asleep, so Nobunaga had to force some more down their throat.[8]
Okita Alter is still unresponsive. Iyo worries about the fact she can’t sense any magical energy from her and the black wound inflicted by Kukochihiko’s sword of beasts. It is a cursed artifact that once belonged to the Ancestral Beast that can erode people’s bodies and afflict them with a disease that turns them into mindless beasts. The Ancestral Beast created it long ago, and it still retains Mystery from the Age of Gods. Iyo regrets she isn’t strong enough to do anything about it.[8]
Nobunaga concludes even if they could escape they wouldn’t be able to do much with Rikyu’s tea due to the nature of the Singularity. Shusha, however, reveals that his bag includes both tea and box lunches. Okita had bought all the tea at the vending machine, suspecting they would probably need it.[8]
Now that they have enough tea to last them a couple days, the others convince Iyo to try to break all of them out. Iyo tries, but much to Nobunaga’s disappointment, she fails.[8]
Kukochihiko arrives to retrieve Iyo and Shusha, warning that Ritsuka will be killed if they do not cooperate. The two leave with him. But after they’re gone, Okita Alter wakes up only for a familiar voice to be heard from her instead.[8]
Mitsunari states with the Chaldea matter taken care of, they can finally focus on welcoming Hideyori. Kukochihiko reports he has sent the shrine maiden and the sacrifice to the altar, so all that remains is to complete the ritual. Mitsunari declares he will at last redeem himself for his failure at Sekigahara. He owes it all to Keisuke manipulating his comrades.[8]
Keisuke responds he didn’t exactly have a choice given who Mitsunari took hostage. Mitsunari states emotion trumps reason for most people. He sees no real difference between man and beast, considering people to be inherently selfish and disloyal. It is for that reason he believes they need strict laws to restrict their behavior and punish those who go astray. He leaves for the shrine with Kukochihiko to prepare for the Ancestral Beast’s resurrection and Hideyori’s rebirth.[8]
Rikyu brings Akesato some tea, which the latter gladly accepts. Akesato asks Rikyu why he is being so nice to her when all she did was wander around like a ghost after she died from an illness and ended up here. Rikyu tells her it’s because they have a responsibility to help one another in times of need.[8]
Akesato requests some food, finding it ironic she still gets hungry even after dying. Rikyu understands her request, but he has business he needs to attend to first. She leaves to attend to said business.[8]
While she appreciates Rikyu’s kindness, Akesato finds it obvious she is going to be sold again and laments even as a ghost she can’t avoid being treated like merchandise. She remembers Keisuke never came back to the parlor again after she died but then thinks he did, but she didn’t see him because she was dead. She prays that he is doing okay.[8]
Okita expresses her surprise that Keisuke had someone like Akesato. She shows herself and introduces herself to Akesato as a friend of Keisuke’s.[8]
Meanwhile, at Chaldea, Chacha wakes up in the infirmary with Nagayoshi at her bedside. She asks him if he thinks Mitsunari resents her. Nagayoshi assumes she is referring to Sekigahara, the battle where Mitsunari fought Ieyasu but ultimately ended up decimating the Toyotomi. He believes Chacha should resent Mitsunari instead for what happened.[8]
Chacha tells Nagayoshi that isn’t what she meant. Mitsunari had vowed to fight for the Toyotomi, but she, out of fear of losing her son, forbade Hideyori from taking part in the war. She believes that is why Mitsunari ended up fighting the Toyotomi alone. Nagayoshi admits he was already dead by then so he wouldn’t know what happened. Chacha says she was no longer herself by the time of the final battle at Osaka Castle and believes it’s her fault her son died young.[8]
Nagayoshi tells Chacha what done is done and what matters is what they do now. Chacha admits she has doubts about whether Hideyori is actually at the Singularity or not, but either way she needs to see for herself. She owes to him, Mitsunari, and Hideyoshi to take responsibility for what she did. However, they can’t just go to the Singularity not when Ritsuka is in danger. Saitou is then caught eavesdropping by Nagayoshi and offers Chacha the aid of the Shinsengumi.[8]
Later at the bridge, Da Vinci explains the Singularity is very difficult to get into so they can only send in three more Servants. Chacha demands she be one of those Servants. Saitou requests to go as well as this ties back to the incident with Serizawa. Himiko also wants to go because she wants to see what this New Yamatai-koku is and because she is worried about Iyo. Chacha reassures Mash she will save Ritsuka and the others.[8]
With all that settled, Da Vinci prepares the rayshift. She informs the others that her analysis of the particles concentrated in the Singularity’s atmosphere revealed they invade Spirit Origins and sap magical energy, so she crafted from some Mystic Codes with a magical energy shield that will hopefully keep them safe. She then tries to start the rayshift when Hijikata makes a request regarding the coordinates.[8]
A flashback shows the moment Rikyu was forced to commit seppuku for his alleged crimes. Upon seeing his own blood and organs after cutting open his stomach, he raved about how he could clearly see that monkey and dog dead. He cursed that he would gleefully await the sunset in hell and on that they would know his rage and darkness. Rikyu was then beheaded.[8]
In the present, Mitsunari and Kukochihiko prepare to sacrifice Shusha and Iyo to revive the Ancestral Beast. Kukochihiko informs Iyo she was originally meant to be sacrificed to complete the ritual during Kunakoku’s war against Yamatai-koku. But her betrayal and Himiko’s power reduced him to what he is now and forced him to bide his time in the cave of eternal darkness for his chance to strike back. [8]
Mitsunari questions if they really need Shusha as well. Kukochihiko says Shusha is the special sacrifice he had Rikyu look for, mentioning that the Ancestral Beast is especially fond of children. Rikyu remarks how Shusha is a more fitting sacrifice compared to the other souls in the Singularity.[8]
Then, just as Mitsunari expected, Chacha arrives and walks straight into his trap, immobilizing her. He mocks her for rushing in at the mere mention of Hideyori, saying that behavior of hers was why her general betrayed Hideyoshi. However, Kukochihiko questions if Chacha is really the only one Chaldea had sent.[8]
Saitou ambushes Mitsunari and Kukochihiko. Keisuke uses this opportunity to betray them. Okita arrives as well, reassuring Keisuke she got Akesato to safety. Keisuke is pleased Okita still remembers their haori code.[8]
After Saitou frees Shusha, Mitsunari orders Kukochihiko to start the ritual with Iyo alone if he has to. But to his surprise, Himiko arrives and rescues Iyo. Saitou admits they would’ve probably fallen for his trick too if not for Keisuke’s code. He and Himiko altered their coordinates so they’d arrive separately. Chacha, meanwhile, was just a decoy.[8]
Mitsunari orders Kukochihiko and Rikyu to kill the Chaldeans. Rikyu is amused that Mitsunari was so confident in his victory only for his supposedly loyal comrades to betray him, just like what happened at Sekigahara. He considers it proof people will never willingly follow him, mocking him for his lack of talent. Mitsunari attacks Rikyu for insulting him only for the latter's body to absorb his sword, much to his shock.[8]
The heroes try to make their escape while Mitsunari and Rikyu are having a falling out, only to find they can’t move because their feet are covered in that dark muck. Iyo at first thinks it's the Dark Blight but realizes it is something darker and heavier.[8]
Rikyu refuses to let the heroes go, demanding to watch as he has Mitsunari executed for his crimes against the people of Japan. Mitsunari questions what gives her the right to speak on their behalf. Rikyu is disappointed Mitsunari still doesn’t recognize his body, so she changes his form to that of a girl with long black hair who Mitsunari is horrified to see again. She is the one he treated as less than human before he killed her on Hideyoshi’s orders: Komahime of Dewa.[8]
Ancestral Beast[]
A flashback shows Hideyoshi informing Mitsunari of his decision to have Hidetsugu succeed him as Kanpaku, doubting he will have any more children now Tsurumatsu is dead. Later, however, he ordered him to kill Hidetsugu, telling him to force the latter to commit seppuku. Mitsunari was horrified his lord would give such an order because it would cause their generals to never trust the Toyotomi clan again.[9]
But then Hideyoshi ordered him to have Hidetsugu’s entire family killed along with him. Mitsunari tried to argue, but Hideyoshi told him men are just beasts and the only way to control beasts is by shedding blood. He claimed killing Hidetsugu’s family was the only way to insure no one else followed in his footsteps, and he did not come to this decision easily. Finally, he ordered Mitsunari to have Hidetsugu’s head displayed at Sanjyo River and have his family executed and buried there as well.[9]
In the present, Rikyu reminds Mitsunari that Komahime came to the capital from the far-off province of Dewa to become a concubine of Hidetsugu. But once she arrived, Mitsunari had her executed as part of Hidetsugu’s family.[9]
Panicking Mitsunari claims there was nothing he could do because, once Hideyori was born, the clan would have fractured over whether to support him or Hidetsugu as their future leader. He insists even Hideyoshi agonized over the decision to have Hidetsugu and his family killed. Rikyu argues Hideyoshi never agonized about anything and considers him to have been pure evil.[9]
Mitsunari retorts that everything Hideyoshi did was to spare his people the horrors of war, arguing a leader must sometimes sacrifice a few for the greater good. Rikyu accepts it is the law of nature for the strong to consume the weak, stating men are truly beasts at heart. So he sees no reason the weak shouldn’t consume the strong in turn.[9]
Himiko senses Rikyu is drawing the souls of the dead into her own body. Rikyu reveals for years now he has been slowly and steadily absorbing the souls that were left to wander the Singularity as she kneaded them into a sum greater than their parts. Over time, these countless souls became a darkness and it will serve as a sacrifice to summon the Ancestral Beast. The roar of the Ancestral Beast is heard.[9]
Mitsunari orders Kukochihiko to stop Rikyu, but Kukochihkio does nothing as Mitsunari realizes he has betrayed him as well. At Rikyu’s behest, Kukochihiko begins the ritual to sacrifice Iyo and Shusha to summon the Ancestral Beast.[9]
Chacha finally recognizes Shusha. Rikyu mocks her and Mitsunari for having failed to recognize him and reveals he is Tsurumatsu, Chacha’s dead firstborn. He admits it doesn’t matter who the sacrifice is, but he thought it being Hideyoshi’s son was the perfect twist.[9]
Chacha demands Rikyu sacrifice her instead if he hates her so much as Tsurumatsu has done nothing wrong. Rikyu claims he hates neither Chacha nor Mitsunari, only Hideyoshi. However, Hideyoshi is completely unfazed by the pain of others, so if he is going to have him understand, then he has no choice but to use his most beloved woman, his most trusted retainer, and his lost firstborn. Just like he did to him, he will destroy the people he cared about most, then he will have his revenge on him.[9]
The moment he says that Ritsuka, Nobunaga, and Rengoku (possessing a male version of Okita Alter’s body) arrive. Rengoku cuts away Rikyu’s darkness, freeing the other Chaldeans, but he makes it clears he can’t hold it off for long. With that in mind, the heroes start to escape, but Iyo can’t go with them because her body has already begun to assimilate with the Ancestral Beast. Himiko refuses to abandon her apprentice, though, and takes her place, telling her the rest up to her.[9]
Chacha refuses to abandon Tsurumatsu and activates her Noble Phantasm, intending to perish along with her son. The flames of her Noble Phantasm provide the others with the opportunity to get away.[9]
They escape to Mitsunari’s old hideout, where Keisuke properly introduces everyone to Akesato. [9]
Iyo warns if the Ancestral Beast resurrects with its original form and power, it will bind this world and the next together, then plunge them both into pure darkness. Nobunaga, given he was in deep with the Ishida faction, asks Keisuke if he can tell them anything. Keisuke says there isn’t as he never knew Rikyu and Kukochihiko were in cahoots. But he can’t shake the feeling Kukochihiko’s heart wasn’t in it despite the fact he betrayed Mitsunari and was set to sacrifice Iyo and Tsurumatsu.[9]
Okita abruptly changes the subject, wanting to know what happened to Okita Alter. Rengoku explains Okita Alter will be out of commission for a while, and since it was an emergency, he temporary control of her body. He is glad he made the mechanisms necessary for him to operate independently back when he and Okita Alter were split up that one summer.[9]
But the sword of beasts severely wounded Okita Alter, so Rengoku disconnected her consciousness for a while, locked it away, and shut down her body. Then, as her sword, he hacked his way inside and rebooted it. He reassures she is fine for now, but unless something is done about the root cause, he doubts she’ll ever recover from the sword of beasts inflicted on her.[9]
Nobunaga presumes by root cause Rengoku is referring to that darkness and inquires to what is, Iyo reveals it is the Ancestral Beast’s black blood: pure, concentrated dead souls; the concept of tainted death. It is what is permeating in the air throughout the Singularity.[9]
Given it was once her homeland’s god, Nobunaga asks Iyo if she knows what they can do about the Ancestral Beast. Iyo says the Ancestral Beast was heretical even in Kunakoku and recalls, according to legend, that the country’s founder sealed it away using the sword of beasts and the shrine maiden of ruin. Nobunaga concludes that plan isn’t viable as Kukochihiko has the sword and Iyo, the shrine maiden of ruin, is rather disappointing.[9]
Iyo questions why Himiko saved her, but Ritsuka reminds her that Himiko entrusted this task to her for a reason. Iyo vows as Himiko’s successor to do everything to resolve this crisis.[9]
The heroes, however, conclude unless something is done about its black blood, they cannot do anything against the Ancestral Beast. But then Nobunaga realizes Rikyu’s tea could be used to counteract the black blood as the tea counteracts the poison in the air. Keisuke doubts that would work when an injured Mitsunari arrives with an unconscious Chacha asking to hear more and asking the heroes to help Chacha.[9]
The Ancestral Beast awakes.
Meanwhile, using Himiko as a substitute for Iyo, Kukochihiko resurrects the Ancestral Beast. Rikyu proclaims with its darkness covering the world, the strong and weak will both be equally powerless. But then Kukochihiko betrays him now that he has fulfilled his part of their agreement.[9]
He confesses to Himiko that he declined to completely return to the light because he still needed to do something about the Ancestral Beast. He knew it would eventually revive on its own, and with war comes a plethora of dead souls. Thus he forced it to awaken now all so he could destroy it.[9]
Kukochihiko tries to kill Rikyu, only to find the sword of beasts is being absorbed by Rikyu's body. Rikyu knew the sword was the Ancestral Beast’s only weakness, so he needed to deprive Kukochihiko of it. He then absorbs him along with the sword, but not before Kukochihiko tells Himiko to give Iyo a message from him reminding that she is the shrine maiden of ruin. Rikyu proclaims this is the beginning of the Age of Blackness.[9]
THE Great Tea Ceremony[]
A flashback shows Komahime saying goodbye to her mother before she leaves for Kyo to become one of Hidetsugu’s concubines.[10]
In the present, Ritsuka and Nobunaga confront Rikyu. He tells them whatever it is they’re planning won’t work, for the Ancestral Beast is already covering the world in its black blood. He is so confident that he even dares Nobunaga to try to stop it.[10]
Nobunaga has Ritsuka empower her, then she activates Pāpīyas Metamorphosis - Demon King of a Billionfold Heavens. Rikyu senses no ordinary Mystery can stand against her in her current state, but that only applies to Mystery discovered and discussed by people. It is ineffective against eternal darkness that merely exists and that no human has ever worshipped. Furthermore, the Ancestral Beast’s black blood comes from the pit of eternal darkness without end. Meanwhile, Nobunaga’s Noble Phantasm uses her life as fuel, so Rikyu wonders how long it will last.[10]
Iyo arrives on Nobunaga’s signal, who tells her to hurry, as she can only stall the Ancestral Beast. Rikyu moves to stop whatever Iyo is up to when Keisuke, Okita, and Saitou arrive to hold him back. Hhe warns the heroes not to place their hopes in Iyo, for she is fated to bring destruction to those around her. Iyo is well aware of that, but she wants to believe what Himiko told her, so now she will use her powers for good.[10]
She uses Twilit Jewel of the Moon on the Ancestral Beast, significantly reducing its Divinity. But Rikyu remains confident in his victory, for it is only a matter of time until the Ancestral Beast consumes even Iyo’s power.[10]
At Nobunaga’s behest, Ritsuka uses their Command Spell to empower Rengoku, who unleashes Absolute Sword - Endless Three-Stage. He doesn’t hit Rikyu or the Ancestral Beast, though, only digging a hole. But then, matcha tea pours through the hole and floods the cave, much to Rikyu disbelief. Mitsunari arrives and invites him to have a drink.[10]
Earlier, Nobunaga described her plan to flood the Ancestral Beast’s chamber with Rikyu’s tea to weaken it since it counteracts the black blood. Mitsunari believed it could work if they could somehow build a canal toward the hole, similar to how Hideyoshi diverted a river to flood Takamatsu Castle. Nobunaga concluded Rengoku could instantly carve a canal with Okita Alter’s Noble Phantasm. Rengoku said he could do it, but only with a major boost from a Command Spell.[10]
Mitsunari assured Nobunaga he could provide the large quantities of tea required for the plan, as he oversaw cultivating all the tea distributed throughout New Yamataikoku, at Rikyu’s behest.[10]
He agreed with Saitou that wouldn’t be in their current predicament if it weren’t for him. He had been denying his role in the Toyotomi’s downfall, so he would accept whatever punishment the heroes saw fit once the battle was over. Ritsuka decided to trust Mitsunari with Chacha’s added reassurance that he always did what was told perfectly.[10]
She apologized to Mitsunari for what happened at Sekigahara. Mitsunari told her she had nothing to apologize for, as he was the one who sealed the Toyotomi’s fate by picking a fight with Tokugawa he couldn’t win. He was always so ashamed of what happened he could never bear the thought of seeing Hideyoshi and Hideyori in the next life. Chacha told Mitsunari that Hideyoshi would never hold a grudge over something like that, revealing he always saw the former as a son. She trusted Mitsunari to keep his promise; Mitsunari vowed to get the tea necessary for the plan.[10]
In the present, Rikyu commands the Ancestral Beast to devour Mitsunari only for it to be stopped by Kukochihiko. Incredulous, Rikyu questions how Kukochihiko escaped his darkness. Kukochihiko doesn't answer, only declaring his sword of beasts, Iyo, and Himiko would stop him. He, Iyo, and Himiko then activated their Noble Phantasms in tandem. The final battle against the Ancestral Beast commences.[10]
The Ancestral Beast is defeated when Chacha suddenly jumps into the pit of eternal darkness to rescue her son. Fortunately, the heroes were able to pull both of them out. With one last roar, the Ancestral Beast disappears back into the pit of eternal darkness alongside Rikyu.[10]
Kukochihiko starts to disappear. He tells Iyo and Himiko he only fought alongside as a fellow survivor of the Age of Beasts. He implores them to surpass the beasts and begin the Age of Humans. Himiko promises they will keep a close eye on the humans.[10]
Iyo asks Kukochihiko how he even returned in the first place. Kukochihiko reveals, except for his head, his current body is borrowed from Serizawa.[10]
He apologizes to Mitsunari for using him for his own ends and disappears with both considering each other friends.[10]
Keisuke and Akesato say their goodbyes to each other before she passes on. Saitou tells him it isn’t too late to go with her if he wants to. Keisuke declines, though, having decided he is done running.[10]
Tsurumatsu tells his mother he has to go now as well. Chacha wishes she could go with him, but she knows she can’t. Tsurumatsu reassures his mother he will be fine going on his own and promises her he will take care of himself. He tells her goodbye when Rikyu suddenly bursts from the pit of eternal darkness, telling him he isn’t going anywhere.[10]
Farewell to Nirai Kanai[]
Rikyu, declaring he will not stop until the strong hear the lamentations of those they so mercilessly oppress, absorbs Tsurumatsu. The heroes try to attack her when she unleashes the black blood to stop them. Rengoku and Iyo both assume it is the Ancestral Beast’s black blood, but Himiko realizes it’s actually Rikyu’s, having absorbed an incalculable number of souls to produce such overwhelming malice. Rikyu proclaims that his anger is the anger of all the nameless souls cursed to wander this land, those who spent all their lives being trampled by the strong.[11]
Chacha implores Rikyu to punish her instead of Tsurumatsu if he wants to punish Hideyoshi for his crimes, for her son has done nothing wrong. Mitsunari concurs with Chacha, pointing out to Rikyu that Tsurumatsu died shortly after he was born, so he is one of the very people he claims to be fighting for.[11]
Rikyu concludes this world which allows people like Tsurumatsu to be born and die for no reason at all, is the real problem. He will therefore return all to darkness, so people can finally live their lives in peace and quiet. He then unleashes darkness to force the heroes understand his ideal.[11]
Nirai Kanai
Ritsuka suddenly finds themselves somewhere else with Rikyu making tea before them. She soon finishes and gives them the tea. He informs them they’re in Nirai Kanai——the land souls call home. It is the end and the beginning of all, a place where light and dark blend into one, and from where she will send Ritsuka home.[11]
She tells Ritsuka to drink the tea, saying she will free them from their worldly suffering. They deserve to be free of the burden others have placed on her, which is why she sought to create an Age of Darkness, to spare the weak like them further oppression from the strong. Once all returns to darkness, there will no longer be any grief or suffering and Ritsuka’s soul can finally be at peace.[11]
Ritsuka asks Rikyu if this Age of Darkness he wants is fun. Rikyu laughs at the notion Ritsuka doesn’t consider his ideal fun. Nevertheless, even if it is true, it is not enough to quell his anger.[11]
Komahime, however, implores Rikyu to stop. Rikyu is incredulous Komahime would say that as she was born innocent and killed for no good reason, one of countless forlorn souls who were so mercilessly slaughtered in an age of war. He believes someone must hold the world accountable and is willing to sacrifice himself or kill the gods and Buddha to see it done.[11]
But Komahime tells Rikyu she doesn’t hate everything about the world. She was sad at having to part with her parts, but even now she still remembers the natural beauty of her home. It is true she did little more with my life than be born and die, but even so she still enjoyed her brief life immensely.[11]
Rikyu is shocked Komahime would say her brief life was fun. Komahime reaffirms what she said, adding the time she spent sharing her body with Rikyu was fun as well. She also thanks Ritsuka for doing everything in their power to Rikyu, meeting anger with kindness and compassion.[11]
Realizing his own foolishness, Rikyu takes a sip of his tea and concludes it is terrible. He questions how he never noticed how terrible his tea is before, but Ritsuka tells him that first cup of teashe served them was the best tea they ever had. Rikyu is ashamed that he forgot that the essence of tea is in making it, drinking it, and enjoying it with company.[11]
He decides to return Komahime’s body to her and releases Tsurumatsu. He apologizes to Ritsuka for getting them caught in her fit of anger and asks them to convey how truly sorry he is to Chacha and Mitsunari. Ritsuka hopes to meet Rikyu again someday. Rikyu disappears, having realized how much fun chance encounters can be.[11]
With Rikyu gone, the others are released. Mitsunari apologizes to Komahime for involving you in the Hidetsugu incident, blaming himself for not stopping Hideyoshi before things go out of hand. He can never make up for what happened to Komahime, but he offers her his head in recompense. Chacha, however, tells him he did nothing wrong, insisting it was her fault Hideyoshi became the way he did. Komahime tells them both to forgive themselves.[11]
Guided by Komahime, Tsurumatsu prepares to pass on. Chacha asks him why he wanted to return to Nirai Kanai. Tsurumatsu tells his mother it’s because his little brother Hideyori is waiting for him. He had been hearing Hideyori’s voice this whole time, telling him to pass on properly so their parents no longer have to worry about them and so he can pass on peacefully as well. Chacha embraces her son for the final time.
Toyotomi Tsurumatsu passing on.
A light shines on the horizon; Hideyori’s voice calls out to Tsurumatsu, much to Chacha’s surprise. She apologizes to Hideyori for everything she put him through and hopes he can forgive her. Hideyori tells his mother neither he nor his brother hold anything against them, so he wants her to forgive herself. Tsurumatsu expresses how grateful he is for his parents and bids farewell to his mother before finally passing on.[11]
Mitsunari tells Chacha that he thinks he is finally ready to face Hideyoshi proudly. He will tell him all about how Hideyori and Tsurumatsu set off on their own journey together. Chacha, however, reminds him that Hideyoshi considered him a son as well. Mitsunari decides he will include himself when he tells Hideyoshi about his sons. Everyone then returns home.[11]
Later, at Chaldea’s cafeteria, Nobunaga recounts how they defeated the Ancestral Beasts with tea, much to Nagayoshi’s disbelief. Keisuke is also there, having joined Chaldea. Rengoku is still using Okita Alter’s body, whom he hopes will wake up soon. Meanwhile, Himiko is getting exhausted from giving Iyo, another new addition, a tour of Chaldea.[11]
GUDAGUDA Cha-no-yu Tale[]
Komahime later appears in Chaldea’s golden tea room and offers Ritsuka the tea she made, much to everyone’s surprise. She admits she thought about disappearing, but after seeing how much fun they all had through Rikyu’s eyes, she found herself jealous, and before she knew it, she missed her chance to disappear. Then, while trying to think what to do, she got caught in the rayshift and ended up in Chaldea. She also brought the Grail that the Chaldeans forgot.[12]
Nobunaga takes a sip of the tea Komahime made for Ritsuka, but is immediately disgusted by the excessive amount of sugar she put into it, comparing it to drinking sludge. Komahime’s Spirit Origin briefly changes to Rikyu, who is ashamed by how poor Komahime is at making tea. Komahime reveals Rikyu had returned to her body a little while ago.[12]
Rikyu admits the trouble he caused the Chaldeans was why heasked Komahime to act as her vessel once more. He hoped to apologize for his transgressions by making them all a proper cup of tea.[12]
Nobunaga demands Rikyu make the tea immediately, then disappear. Rikyu, however, refuses to do that, as they both know how poor Komahime’s tea etiquette is. He will not abide by it, so she will remain in Chaldea as Komahime’s tea ceremony master until she is capable of making Ritsuka a proper cup of tea herself.
Nagayoshi suddenly bursts into the room and threatens to kill Rikyu for what she had done. Rikyu apologizes for deceiving him in his previous transmission and offers his head as amends for what he had done. Nagayoshi decides to spare Rikyu but swears to kill him the moment he tries anything fishy, which Ritsuka and Chacha agree with. Rikyu promises to serve Ritsuka with the utmost loyalty.[12]
Iyo enters the room, having heard Komahime is in Chaldea but sees Rikyu is here as well. Nobunaga asks her if she can use her powers to make Rikyu vanish, fearing it’s only a matter before he paints Chaldea in darkness. Iyo, however, thinks there is nothing to fear because her power is considered evil as well. She believes what matters is how one uses the power given to them.[12]
