Shirou Emiya (衛宮士郎, Emiya Shirō?) is the parallel version of the Shirou from Miyu's world. He is the Card User of the second Archer Class Card of the Fifth Ainsworth Holy Grail War.

Profile[]

Background[]

He lost both of his biological parents to an accident and whilst trapped beneath the scrap and debris, he was saved by Kiritsugu Emiya who later became his adoptive father and mentor. He and Kiritsugu would than travel the world.

He followed Kiritsugu to Fuyuki City, to investigate the Sakatsuki family. When they arrived, the city was engulfed by a black shadow. Shirou noticed a pillar of light in the Sakatsuki estate, and ran off to it, finding and saved the Child of God from a collapsing roof. Through some unknown means, she was born as the perfect vessel of the Holy Grail.

Kiritsugu adopts the girl named Miyu, and he and Shirou go to the Emiya residence. Kiritsugu is determined to use Miyu to save the world, but as time goes on Shirou begins to care for Miyu deeply and has reservations about how they're going about it. Kiritsugu eventually falls ill and can no longer use Miyu to save the world. Eventually on a fateful night while Shirou and Kiritsugu are watching the night sky, Kiritsugu and Shirou talk, and Shirou tells Kiritsugu that he would never let chasing after the stars or moon be a mistake, which puts Kiritsugu at peace, glad that Shirou is still like this. After Kiritsugu passes on Shirou raises Miyu over the next five years but, not taking Miyu out of the house as he listens to Kiritsugu's warning that he should never take Miyu past the bounded field. He homeschooled Miyu buying her books, teaching her cooking, and caring for her in any way he can.

Learning proper magecraft from Kiritsugu unlike his counterparts, he is at the start more skilled, knowledgeable, and doesn't have issues with activating his Magic Circuits.

At the start of the series, Shirou already fought to remove Miyu from the grasp of Julian Ainsworth and allow her to escape to the other world. He was eventually captured and used as a means of keeping Miyu in check after she returned.

Appearance[]

Much like his counterpart, Shirou dresses in a white and blue sleeved shirt and slim blue jeans, albeit both of which are introduced shown in ragged condition due to his imprisonment. The most notable difference lies in a small streak of white within his otherwise auburn hair as well as several tanned streaks of skin throughout his body, the changes of which most likely came about due to the extensive use of EMIYA's influence slowly growing within him in this timeline.

In his past, when he was still going to school, he wore the same uniform as his counterpart, along with a scarf. During the 5th Ainsworth Holy Grail War, he is seen with a jacket and most of the time with a coat, which is somewhat similar to the one that Shirou Emiya wears in the Ufotable anime adaptation of Unlimited Blade Works. When he installs the Archer Class Card, he obtains Archer's signature attire but with minor changes like wearing a red headband and being sleeveless on his right arm.

After he returns to the Emiya residence, he domes a kimono that is similar to what Kiritsugu wore. During The attack on his house, he takes off the right portion, to allow more maneuverability for shooting his bow. As the battle progress EMIYA's presence slowly takes more of his body until his current skin color is inversed with his original skin color taking the place of his affect body parts, but this time on the right side. When EMIYA's invasion of his body is cleared Shirou's body returns to its natural color.

Personality[]

Shirou deeply cares for Miyu and her safety, willingly fighting the Ainsworths entirely for her sake. Although her sacrifice is intended to save the world, he rejects Julian's notion of needing to sacrifice one to save all and decides to accept the "evil" that comes with fighting against him. He greatly belittles himself in his inability when the Ainsworth find her, calling himself the "worst of the worst."

Shirou is always taking care of Miyu be it buying her a library of books since she can't leave the house, doing her hair, or buying her stuffed animal pajamas. Shirou was very uncomfortable with Miyu's Magical Sapphire Attire feeling he needed to scold someone.

Shirou was also extremely close to Sakura. He cared deeply for her, but it was unknown if he possessed any romantic feelings for her. He is deeply hurt when he finds out she was a mage, and a competitor. When she asked him to leave with her, he felt he would be happy as long as she was by his side but felt he could not truly abandon everything the most important, Miyu. Lastly when she was killed, he felt great sadness, rage, and was horrified, but her death gave him the resolve to gain all of the class cards and save Miyu. He is deeply shocked when he discovers that Sakura has been turned into a doll.

Shirou also seems to be a bit more sarcastic and laid back initially than when compared to his alternate selves, often teasing Julian when they were in high school together. However, this part of him disappeared as the war progressed, mixed with guilt, regret, desperation and biting despair at the loss of his loved ones and at that time also Miyu. Overall, his personality seems closer to EMIYA than to the other Shirou Emiya's. Yet, he incorporates EMIYA's dark and ruthless sides more than his lighter teasing sides.

Fifth Holy Grail War[]

Before the Holy Grail War Shirou had a similar life to his Fate/stay night counterpart. He often helped the school council president of his school and was good friends with him. The difference here is that he never quit the Archery Club and that he and Sakura were the only members as well as never meeting Shinji. After Kiritsugu's death, he wouldn't let Miyu leave the Emiya residence as he had told him they were probably not the only ones looking for them. Since he didn't know how to treat Miyu after that due to an internal conflict between his dream, wish, promise to his father, and about Miyu herself all within himself. For her education, he gave her books to read while he wasn't home or was training in Magecraft.

Miyuverse Shirou and Miyu sitting down under the stars

Shirou and Miyu talking to each other under the stars.

Shirou later has a conversation with Miyu when she was looking for constellation signs and mentions to her that Kiritsugu loved to do that from the spot they were on wondering if he did that because he was making wishes to the stars. Miyu then makes a wish to become a true brother and sister with Shirou, which is indirectly granted by herself with her eyes changing colors from red to amber. From there Shirou decided to start over and take her outside seeing that her wish made her develop from being the Child of God into being human.

Passing by an elementary school, Shirou realizes that Miyu could learn academics or common sense there and make friends her age, but then remembers that it will be closing down this year. He then notices a little girl in the school looking at him but is interrupted by Sakura. At school, he tells Julian about the little girl, who is disgusted at Shirou's apparent interests. However, Shirou clarifies that he was wondering if she would be his little sister's friend. As they continue talking, Julian tells Shirou that he doesn't mind lies because when someone wants to hide something they have a clear goal: the desire to deceive; but that "fakes" that put on an act for no reason at all make him want to vomit, telling Shirou that in his opinion until now that was all that his smiling was. However, the smirk he had while talking about his sister wasn't an empty one, making it a thousand times better than an act.

Shirou eventually decides the day has come to get out Miyu, bringing her to go see her real family's graves in order to tell her the truth about her adoption but they are interrupted by Julian claiming that it was the most boring plot development ever. He then asks Erika Ainsworth if Miyu was the one without doubt, to which she responds by saying that the container was intact. Julian let out his rage by telling Shirou what he has done to find the "thief" that stole what he was looking for, forcing Shirou to use Reinforcement on his tape measure to deal with him and tell Miyu to run away. Julian proceeds to make Shirou fall with Flash Air from a certain height and immobilize Miyu. After learning that Julian was the one that caused the shadow that destroyed a part of Fuyuki and erased Miyu's family, he rushes to him but is stopped by Angelica Ainsworth who attacked him from behind with the power of her Archer Class Card.[5]

MiyuShirou Black Keys

Shirou tries to attain the Ainsworth residence by using Kirei's Black Keys.

He is saved by Kirei Kotomine, mistaking him at first for Kiritsugu after waking up. Kirei tells him that he is a priest that helps drowning people. After changing, he welcomes Shirou to the Fuyuki Church, presenting himself as a priest that is responsible for witnessing the end of the world. He mentions Miyu and Kiritsugu in order to keep Shirou in the Church.[5] He proceeds the conversation by explaining to him the identity and goals of the Ainsworth family which they state is their version of "saving humanity" and the meaning behind the Holy Grail War, claiming that there has already been four rituals that ended in failure and revealing that had the worst outcome possible, destroying Zachary Ainsworth the previous head of the Ainsworth family, the Matou family and the Sakatsuki family completely. After the discussion, Kirei tells Shirou where Miyu was taken at the time they were recovering and talking, giving him details about the displacement field.[6]

He attempts to enter the displacement field but isn't even allowed entrance constantly being teleported away, after a lot of time has passed, he in frustration screams at Julian to give back his real sister that a Faker like him finally got. After struggling without success to reach the Ainsworth Residence and paying Kirei for Black Keys during this time, he meets with Sakura who was passing in front of his house. After eating with him, she reveals that she wanted to have more time with him but now that the war is starting, she as a magus must participate. Shirou is in shock after Sakura reveals that the Matou helped the Ainsworth, and anger begins to form but upon seeing Sakura's face he becomes depressed. He asks Sakura if she has come to kill him. Sakura state's that she wanted to give him the Archer Class Card containing Gilgamesh's spirit to allow him to participate in the Holy Grail War,[6] but if he could leave then she and him would run away and start a new life together. Shirou contemplates this but, decides he cannot abandon Miyu, only for them to get attacked by Shinji Matou who shows himself as the Card User of the Assassin Class Card.[7] Chasing Shirou and Sakura to the garden of the Emiya residence, Sakura decides to confront him with the Card to protect Shirou, but it is revealed that the Card was a fake because the Ainsworth family knew that Sakura would betray them. Shinji then uses Zabaniya: Dead Heartbeat Melody to kill her, letting the card fall into Shirou's hands. Understanding Kiritsugu's words that on the road of trying to save everyone, there lies a cliff where one loses everything, he can't see the stars and the moon that he wants to chase after, and so he vows and makes an oath to save Miyu, using Sakura's class card by linking himself to a heroic spirit Archer and performing a Complete Install, cutting Shinji's right hand.[8]

Shinji shocked attempts to attack Shirou by remotely controlling his arm, but Shirou punches him out of the shed. Shinji asks what Shirou did, and Shirou reply's by saying "it's just a nameless wannabe heroic spirit", making Shinji realize what Shirou did. They then proceed to fight leading to a panicking and irritated Shinji trying to finish by creating an empty decoy that Shirou fights to sneak himself behind Shirou's back but is noticed by him and stabbed with Caladbolg II. After being defeated, Shinji says that he finally remembered everything and that he was already dead, asking Shirou to finish him off. Before dying he tells Shirou that he will have to kill a lot of people during the war and then leaves the Doll's body he was placed into.[9] During the War, Shirou faced Atrum Galliasta the Card User of Caster, Kariya Matou the Card User of Rider, Beatrice Flowerchild the Card User of Berserker, Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald the Card User of Lancer and Zachary Ainsworth the Card User of Saber. After the hard-won fight Zachary tells Shirou he'll live Julian to him, and leave's his Doll's body. After collecting all the cards, Kirei comes to congratulate him on being the victor of the Holy Grail War and then tells him Miyu's location.[10]

Shirou meets again with Julian in the Ten no Sakazuki cavern of the Mount Enzou and asks him to give him Miyu back. Julian refuses and admonishes Shirou calling him the worst, and after a certain amount of time Shirou begins to understand what Julian has been through, which enrages Julian, but Shirou solidifies his statement when he mentions that he knew someone like him referencing Kiritsugu, but then explains to him what the Sakatsuki family wished for the entire time was just trying to protect their children. Shirou then shows his will by saying that if Julian considers protecting Miyu was considered evil, then please let him do it. He then leaves Julian.[11]

At the heart of the cavern Shirou finally reaches Miyu, who gets emotional because the Ainsworth revealed that Shirou and Kiritsugu took her with them only to use her as a tool. Shirou takes out the seven Class Cards that hover around her and reaffirms to Miyu that he is her older brother and protecting his little sister is only natural. Shirou laments to Miyu about what he was trying to figure out to do and him believing all his past actions had been one mistake after another, even the one he is about to make. Shirou proceeds to make his wish upon the Holy Grail, using it to send Miyu to another world, one where she could have happiness. While the Grail was working to grant his wish, Shirou is confronted by the wielder of the true Archer Class Card, Angelica.[11]

Angelica assaults an unarmed Shirou with the Gate of Babylon, with the swords only grazing him yet still enough force to throw Shirou off the ground. Angelica states that it was foolish of Shirou to fight her without a Class Card. She commands Shirou to stay down lest she kills him for real. He ignores this, and true to her words Angelica fires a second volley, this time for the kill. Shirou chants "Trace On" and projects Kanshou and Bakuya to deflect the incoming swords, much to Angelica's surprise and disbelief that her opponent could use a Heroic Spirit's weapons without a Card. Shirou explains every time his body fought with his Archer Class Card, he was being invaded by Heroic Spirit EMIYA. He projects several more swords, and mocks Angelica that she was slow on the uptake proclaiming she "is facing a true imitation of a Heroic Spirit". Shirou charges towards Angelica, exchanging sword fire, managing to reach her, but he is eventually pushed back.[12]

Angelica then belittles her opponent, labelling Shirou's power as a "trick". Shirou calls Angelica surprisingly cute wondering if she has concern for her enemy, saying he didn't have time for that if he wanted to survive and reach this far. Understanding the true powers of Heroic Spirit EMIYA ("And then that Man..."), Shirou gets back up and utters the words "I am the bone of my sword...". Angelica quickly retaliates with Gate of Babylon but Shirou projects Rho Aias to shield himself. Angelica is forced to use Enkidu to trap Shirou in the process and charges at him with a giant sword. However, just before the attack is fully executed, Shirou casts his Reality Marble, avoiding the attack, and enclosing Angelica within his snowy version of Unlimited Blade Works.[12] The two continue their battle, however, it is soon clear to Angelica that through this world Shirou is not only able to keep up with but also nullify the Gate of Babylon. Angelica summons shields from the Gate to guard against her opponent's offense but Shirou smashes through the shields with his own giant sword stating that she wouldn't understand the concept of perfecting a single strike. With his foe rendered defenseless Shirou goes in for the kill.[13]

Shirou misses, as Angelica defends with Flash Air, and he is subsequently teleported high above the ground, replaying what Julian did earlier. As Shirou is rendered helpless in the air, Angelica brings out Ig-Alima and Sul-sagana to crush Shirou but he quickly projects the respective imitations to counter the two Divine Constructs. After seeing her attack repelled and commenting about Shirou's "abhorrent self-destructive conviction", Angelica finally summons Ea to finish the fight. Realizing that it was impossible to reproduce this Noble Phantasm and that there is no sword in the world that can stand equal to it, Shirou, in a hopeless yet desperate attempt, musters every last sword stored in his Reality Marble and launches them against Angelica. Ea is activated, unleashing Enuma Elish, and the full might of Shirou and Angelica's powers collide. Although Ea's power proved overwhelming, Shirou managed to hold off Angelica's attack as long as he can buying time for the wish to be fulfilled. Shirou state's that Angelica was right about one thing and that is that sometimes one thing truly outweighs everything else. Shirou manages to hold off Angelica long enough to let Miyu leave their world. Miyu was then transported along with everything in the surrounding area, which included everything related to the Holy Grail ritual in the cavern even Angelica's archer card (though it faced interference), but since Angelica and Shirou were in Unlimited Blade Works, they were not transported with Miyu to Illya's World.[14] At that moment Shirou felt that a very important connection had been cut and finally realized that the one who kept him going was Miyu all along due to her sharing mana with him. Shirou is wiped out by Enuma Elish and is utterly defeated. Shirou affirms to Kiritsugu that though he failed to be a hero who could save others, for him he won because could pride himself as a brother who was able to protect his sister. Shirou collapses and is held captive by the Ainsworths thereafter.[13]

Sixth Holy Grail War[]

PRISMA Shirou imprisoned

Shirou in his cell.

At the start of Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA 3rei!!, Shirou is first found by Illya, Tanaka, and Gilgamesh as they sneaked through the Ainsworth estate to rescue Miyu. As Tanaka notices that someone has been imprisoned, they first believe it to be Miyu until they heard his voice. Upon him questioning how they know Miyu; he is overjoyed to the point of tears after realizing she has made friends. Introducing himself as her older brother, Gilgamesh is excited that he is still being kept alive, although in a bad state, somehow having knowledge of his existence. He disparages himself for not being able to allow Miyu to escape the "chains of fate" after she has once again been brought back into the hands of the Ainsworths, begging them to save her.[15]

Illya cheers him up by telling him that she will do her all to save her friend, causing him to once again weep as he claims that half of his wish has already come true thanks to her. He tells them to worry about Miyu instead of him, and they have no capability to open the magical lock of his prison before Angelica attacks them.[15] Worried that she has returned, he tells them to run because she is dangerous. As Illya questions Angelica about Miyu's whereabouts, he tells her that she is at the top of the tallest tower, causing Angelica to use a spell to cause him great pain.[16] Julian later threatens Miyu to take out any punishment that he cannot inflict on her body on her brother, causing her to become obedient for his ritual.

As part of their plan on their second assault of the estate to save both the captured Illya and Miyu, Kuro, Bazett, and Gilgamesh plan to rescue him to keep him from being used against Miyu. Gilgamesh also has some sort of motive in meeting him at least once, so he frees Shirou and tells him of the events until then.[17] Once Julian uses the mysterious cube object to conjure a large number of Heroic Spirits, Shirou arrives as the rest of the combatants are overwhelmed and Julian is attempting to lure Miyu back to him by working at her conscience over her friends being in danger. Illya stops her by telling her nothing good would come of it, and Shirou agrees with her as he shows himself.[18]

He tells Miyu that she will no longer have to listen to Julian again, thanking all of her friends for fighting for her sake. He tells them to leave the rest to him to accomplish his duty as Miyu's older brother, crushing a number of the Heroic Spirits with Nine Lives. He tells Julian that he will accept "all the evil that comes with stopping him" if he is willing to sacrifice one person for the greater good. He asks Julian if he has enough resolve as a "hero of justice" and blocks a volley of arrows with Rho Aias. The members of Illya's group recognize him as Shirou, confused by his appearance. He projects Ig-Alima to act as a ramp to the formation where Julian resides, reuniting with Miyu on his way up. He apologizes for not being able to protect her, but states that he will end it all.[18]

Encountering Angelica in Gilgamesh Install on the top, she states he alone shall not pass, and Shirou contemplates how their positions have been reversed and he challenges her. They continue to trade barbs as Shirou counters all her attacks with his own, as the Heroic Spirits attempt to come for his back, while Angelica tries to pin him with her swords, Shirou tries to invoke Unlimited Blade Works. He is unable to though as his body fail's him due to his poor condition at the time. Angelica begins to change direction of her attacks with Flash Air and begins to corner him, until Chloe comes to his support as Shirou looks around, he sees that Illya is holding off the heroic spirits and Rin, Luvia, and Bazett all begin to fight. He realizes he's not fighting alone anymore, that Miyu has people by her side, and then proceeds to fight Angelica with Chloe by his side. Angelica enraged at their being two fakes and states that their magecraft overturns the law of equivalent exchange which is an insult to the Ainsworth. She begins to combine her Gate of Babylon with Flash Air to drastically increase the speed of her attacks, realizing they cannot block it they both use Rho Aias. As this goes on Shirou is telling Chloe that the only thing, she should be focusing on is the boundary between life and death, that she needs to see twenty steps ahead and secure five more seconds of survival. As the battle progress Chloe begins to better understand her class card by watching Shirou, and the two attempt to use Tripple Linked Crane Wings against Angelica. She counters with an all-area evasion of Flash Air, but since Chloe has attacked from below where she cannot see it hits, Shirou then proceeds to finish her off with one last blow finally defeating Angelica.[19] Shirou races off to confront Julian, but suddenly a doll of Sakura Matou in install form attacks him, countering his projected weapons with Knight of Honor, stealing Bakuya and uses it to deal a deep wound on him. In shock by Sakura appearing before him, while he struggles to stand up defeated, Beatrice Flowerchild strikes him and tosses him from Ig-Alima where Rin Tohsaka saved him.

He attempts to save Illya and Miyu from a blast from Thor's hammer by using Rho Aias, which nearly resulted in his death due to the damage he had suffered from battle and the wounds healed by Tohsaka re-opening. Rin state's she cannot heal Shirou in his current state, until Bazett shows that she has Rin's pendant from the original world and offers it to her. Rin takes the pendant and, in a way, similar to his Stay Night counterpart, he is healed by Tohsaka.[20]

Miyuverse Shirou and Miyu sitting

Shirou about to tell Illya's group about his and Miyu's past.

After being saved from death and with the battle over, the still wounded Shirou leads Illya and her friends away from the crater and back into town. Finding out they have no place to stay now that their base at the school has been compromised, Shirou invites them to the Emiya manor, including Angelica Ainsworth who had been abandoned by the other Ainsworths after Illya decides she couldn't leave her. Angelica state's she is just a discarded doll, and they can do with her as they please very different from her previous emotional outbursts and Shirou who is seeing this decides it's okay. Arriving, he welcomes Miyu home and allows the rest to use his home and the clothes they have available. Later, after bathing and bringing Tanaka home from the school, Illya and Chloe eavesdrop into a conversation between Miyu and Shirou. There Shirou dotes on his little sister, showering her with kind affection, even doing her hair up. When Miyu tells Shirou about Illya as her friend, Shirou thinks to himself how grateful he is his wish was granted.[21]

Embarrassing Miyu by revealing the eavesdropping, he informs the trio to gather the rest of their party in the main room. Once all gathered, Shirou expresses his sincere gratitude to them all and tells them the story of the Fifth Holy Grail, the betrayal of his only friend, and the cost of his victory.[21][13]

After his explanation, Illya then gives her own summary of the events that led them here. After they catch up on all the events, the group decide to rest for today, but later that night he goes to the room where Angelica is staying to have a conversation with her. He asks why Angelica isn't even tired and she follows with stating that if he wished her to sleep she would. The emotions she displayed before were a product of the card, and he notes that even though her rage was fake that's why Shirou notice's the resemblance between Julian and Angelica, that she is Julian's older sister. He further continues by saying that only an Ainsworth would be so proficient in displacement magecraft. From comparing what he knows about the dolls of the Ainsworth, how broken the process made them, and Angelica's state before the install and after he concludes that Angelica has lost her emotions, which she confirms by saying over 90% of her emotions have been lost. At that point Illya and Tanaka who are eavesdropping fall through the entrance, though Shirou is fine with that since they have as much right to hear as anyone else, and then decides to ask Angelica a question that's been on his mind for some time: "Just who is Darius?". In the entirety of the Fifth Holy Grail War, Darius never showed himself, and all his encounters were with Julian, not only that but Kotomine had told him that Zachary was Julian's father who he fought so who is Darius and where did he come from? Tanaka is the one who answer's by stating that Darius is the Allfather of the Ainsworth shocking Shirou, which leads Angelica to explain that Darius has used displacement magic to transfer his soul to the new heads of the Ainsworth family slowly taking them over until he is completely in control, over the course of a thousand years. Angelica states that the grand design of such a person is beyond what people who have lived less than a century could figure out, states that Julian is attempting to accomplice something before the process is complete and pleads in the room to save her brother with a single tear going down her face.[22]

During the group's recovery over the next few days, while Shirou watches Illya engages in a snowball fight with her friends, he is shocked when Angelica aids the fight. Rin and Luvia explain that is how Illya has survived her encounters taking her enemies and turning them into allies. Shirou is amazed having never considered that path with the events he had undergone.[23] Later, Shirou meets with Chloe privately to give her Kiritsugu's Origin Bullet. He does so, knowing he will not be able to be healed enough to aid them in their fight against Julian, He informs her that she needs to take better care of herself because she reminds him of EMIYA's more sacrificing attribute's which she retorts it goes both ways as Miyu can't be happy without him by her side, which struck a chord with Shirou.[24]

They gather together to discuss what the Ainsworth could be planning, and in a comedic event Shirou's eyes wander to Angelica in her new virgin killer outfit, as most of the room notices. As they continue to discuss events, Rin deduces that the Ainsworth's goal involves activating Pandora's Box but is shocked when Shirou and Miyu have never heard of it, when they prove it isn't in any of their books, Rin deduces that their goal is based on events that never occurred in this reality...the opening of Pandora's Box.[25]

The Ainsworth make their move and begin poring mud down from their location, and the battle begins. Over the course of the battle, he oversees the progress of Illya, Miyu, Chloe, and Bazett, as they battle their way to the Ainsworth, from his home via a scrying spell commenting on the fighting. When Illya finally reaches Julian, she asks if Julian actually wishes to save Erika, which causes Julian to rage that he wants to kill Erika while Darius wants to save Erika. After hearing this haunting info their connection breaks apart and Shirou is left to wonder why Julian would want to kill his own sister.

In a dreamscape a version of Shirou and Chloe encourages Illya to continue onward when she believes that she could have done things better. They continue stating that even if she made the wrong choices would that change anything by listening to what they tell her she did wrong, as she does not intend to give up. They tell her that it doesn't matter whether they make the wrong or right choices as she has the power to make the correct choice.

Shirou and the rest endure an invasion of headless giants that spawn from the mud that never stops pouring from the Ainsworth main location. As Angelica wards off the area with displacement magecraft forcing it to deviate away from the EMIYA residence. As they destroy everything, the group are caught by surprise by a shadow created by the Imaginary Numbers Element which explodes and injures Angelica. That is when Sakura appears and attacks them, but before she can end the lives of Rin and Luvia, Shirou traces arrows and a bow to interfere with her attack. Luvia asks why Shirou is fighting when he said he wouldn't, which he states that he has been waiting for this, knowing Sakura would attack them since this is where she lost her heart.[26]

Sakura attacks with the full power of her Imaginary Number Element and Lancelot's power forcing Shirou to use the modern weaponry left behind by Kiritsugu in order to save the remaining projections he's capable of using. Sakura is in disbelief that her senpai would use guns which he states that he will use everything he can to stop her, as he remembers how the real Sakura died. After cornering her with weapons she can't steal such as grenades, landmines, and bullets he aims to finish her off with a Tripple Linked Crane Wings.[27] However, Lancelot's superior battle skill enable her to evade the blow, making Shirou take the brunt of his own attack.[28] Before the final blow is struck Rin and Luvia team up to use a combined Gandr to take Sakura out. Before Sakura can react Rin yells at her sister to stop which causes Sakura to pause, as she states her real sister died five years ago. This causes Rin to be happy as even in this timeline they were proper sisters. After they fire the Gandr's disorienting Sakura, Angelica uses the Ainsworth displacement magecraft to send Shirou right above her for one final blow. Shirou contemplates during the fight that he realizes that he was never fighting alone, and that he had made it this far thanks to the help of everyone working together. As he traces Caladbolg, which he states will be his final projection, he rams it into Sakura, wondering who made him realize this fact.[29]

Shirou wakes up surrounded by a cold, dark, ocean like space, concluding that he has reached the end of Archer's power. Noticing a light in the distance, he decides not to give up and heads toward it before realizing he is holding onto a corpse, one he can't remember yet instinctively knows is important. Carrying the corpse to the light, he is surprised that, at the center of it, is something he recognizes and believed was lost: Sakura's heart.[30]

They later escape the space and reappear where they recently left, back at the Emiya residence. Sakura unlike her prior appearance kneels over Shirou as he is lying on the ground. Sakura explains that before her heart was struck, she sent it into the Imaginary Numbers Space and when Shirou put it back it brought her back to life. She pleads with Shirou not to die, as his past experiences take their toll on him.

In his mind, he is still walking through a snowy filed until he reaches the edge of a cliff, tired and thinking of giving up chasing a moon he can't see anymore. All of a sudden, he hears a voice admonishing him. The place changes to his house, and he sees an alive Kiritsugu, who while he can't remember feels a deep warmth in his chest. He tells him that he shouldn't give up, and that he apologizes as he feels he needed to be more specific saying that he only wanted for him and Miyu to be happy and a family. After this, it changes to a path away appearing before him, and hearing EMIYA stating that he doesn't feel his powers are needed anymore. Shirou thanks him and says he is in his debt, only for the Counter Guardian to smile, glad that it was finally over and saying that he was getting tired of "babysitting" him. He then tells Shirou to wake up and to not make Sakura cry anymore, as Shirou runs across a path that is made over the cliff's edge.[31]

He abruptly wakes up as Sakura cry's out him to live and uses Chloe's Rule Breaker on him waking him up. He then hears EMIYA in real life saying that Rule Breaker has managed to break their contract and thus letting the Heroic Spirit EMIYA that slowly took over Shirou's body to leave returning him to normal and manifesting the real EMIYA. They see EMIYA in the flesh on the roof complaining about his summoning position, but not too bad, as their enemy is still within their strike range. He then proceeds to shoot Hrunting at Darius commenting that there was no way he could escape this shot.[31]

All Darius feels is a premonition of a feeling he has not felt for 1000 years, that it was the arrow that would be his end. Darius does whatever he can to hold it off wrapping it with his Magic Circuit Thorns but just as he believes he's stopped it Miyu appears and fires a shot volley that pushes Hrunting through and cut's Darius in half.[31]

After this, Shirou approaches EMIYA, wanting to thank him for everything, only for the latter to stop him saying that they have nothing to say to each other, and that he is about to disappear. Shirou stumbles but Sakura, Rin and Luvia run to help him up, causing EMIYA to remark how stupid he is that he needs help just to stand up. Shirou admits that EMIYA is right, but adds that it is exactly what makes him who he is. This causes the Archer Servant to be stunned, and then ask him if that is really worth boasting about as he disappears smiling.[32]

Other appearances[]

Shirou appears in a talk show with Sakura as they describe the movie Oath Under Snow. She complains to him about why he isn't dressed as a magical girl considering this is a magical girl show, but Shirou retorts that this is a prelude, although he also states that, if he walked around like that, it wouldn't be long before his rival Magical Julian showed up.

Shirou also appears in the OVA Prisma Phantasm, where he duels Angelica Ainsworth in a serious game of "Kick the Can".

Abilities[]

Shirou was the user of the Archer Class Card before it came into the hands of Illya, and he displays control over it to the degree of reaching a Complete Install. He is shown to have greater experience than an actual user of it, such as Kuro, as she's stated to learn how to best use the card's powers after watching Shirou fight. Just like the Heaven's Feel iteration of Shirou, this Shirou is heavily affected by the Archer Class Card. As a result, the more he uses his projection powers which "don't belong to him", the more he gets consumed by the powers, which causes physical changes as he slowly turns into a younger version of Archer. Due to having the EMIYA Heroic Spirit possess him, he shows many times he has acquired somewhat superhuman attributes such as immense strength and agility, as well as an abnormal degree of healing, though it is limited to cuts and broken limbs.

Shirou uses Projection with great efficiency. He is able to run through a field of Heroic Spirits that leaves the members of Illya's group easily pushed back, attacking and defending as he moves. He is able to project a Divine Construct, Ig-Alima, for which even Gilgamesh praises him despite it being a hollow knockoff of the real weapon. It appears that this is due to Miyu's blessing fueling him with magical energy. In this world, Kiritsugu also trained him properly and he can reinforce objects perfectly.

His sword skills are also worth noting, as he seems to employ a fighting style similar to that of Archer's; a dual wielding style that allows him to fight against far stronger and faster opponents by usage of various tactics and exploiting every detail about his opponent's abilities. When Sakura attacks the Emiya's residence, he is seen using a long bow and using projection arrows to attack from the shed, demonstrating great archery skills.[26]

This iteration of Shirou is also capable of evoking a variant of Unlimited Blade Works, one that is covered in snow.[13]

He keeps a tape measurer on hand that he reinforces into a makeshift sword at any time. When he tried to get into the Ainsworth residence, he purchased several Black Keys from Kotomine hoping that their affects would cut through the barrier to no affect, it is unknown if he still possesses a few in storage.

Shirou Emiya is also proficient in using modern weaponry in this world, as he utilizes Kiritsugu's Calico M950 to fire bullets at Sakura as well as tossing grenades. He also has set land mines around his house in order to disorient Sakura as most likely she cannot utilize Knight of Honor against explosions and bullets already fired. He also appears to be in possession of Kiritsugu's Thompson Contender and Origin Bullet's and has granted one bullet to Kuro for the upcoming fight though he has not been seen utilizing them.[27]

    Magic Circuits [Magecraft]
Pseudo-nerves within the body of a magus.
Magic circuits are responsible for converting life force into magical energy, and for connecting to the underlying grand sorcery formula.
Because the number of magic circuits a person has is fixed at birth, magi lineages do what they can to improve themselves and create an heir with even one more magic circuit.
Once the magic circuits have been opened for the first time, the practitioner can switch them on and off at will.
Each practitioner visualizes the flipping of this switch in their own particular way. For Shirou, the image is that of a gun's firing hammer, while for Rin it is stabbing a heart with a knife.
This image tends to be related to how the circuits were opened for the very first time, so there even those who can only open their circuits through sexual arousal or self-harm.
By the way, Shirou's number of magic circuits is an unexpectedly high 27.
Rin, on the other hand, has 40 main circuits, while her sub-circuits are 30 each.

    Unlimited Blade Works [Noble Phantasm/Magecraft]
Reality Marble, Infinite Creation of Swords.
A different world from this one, the imagined world that a man whose Origin became “Sword” due to certain circumstances reached. It was High-Thaumaturgy that the Shirou from this world originally couldn’t reach, but it became usable for a limited time after being corroded by the Heroic Spirit of a Card.
That imagined landscape is a snowy field in the dark night. Without stars or roads, and only just the crescent moon faintly illuminates Shirou. The innumerable stuck swords give the impression of the mountain of corpses that that Heroic Spirit saw. It’s a space supplied with every sword from every time and place, and swords come flying to Shirou’s hands, or to the enemy, the instant he wishes for it. That is faster than Projection by far, and it even outdoes the speed at which swords are produced from The King’s Treasure.
That said, because it is helpless against swords that don’t exist within the Bounded Field, regarding Ig-Alima and Sul-sagana he could project them superficially right after seeing them, and somehow managed to do it by hitting them and averting their trajectory. This cheat style… So you have received the protection of the Holy Grail, haven’t you?
The instant Miyu flew to another world, the mana path was cut off, and he became unable to maintain the Reality Marble. As a result he lost the battle, but the wish of the big brother who wagered his life was granted. By the way, at this time Miyu’s world and Illya’s world changed places together with the space of the Great Cavern, but there is the trick of Shirou and Angelica not being affected since they were within the Reality Marble. I hate how complicated this is.
