SinfjötliWP (シンフィヨトリ, Shinfiyotori?), Class Name Rider (ライダー, Raidā?), is a Rider-class Servant summoned alongside Lancer Percival as the two Servants of Gagam Istorre in the Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail War of Fate:Lost Einherjar.
Profile[]
Background[]
Sinfjötli is the half-brother of Sigurd, and lived and died in the Age of Gods.[1] In life, Sinfjötli and his father massacred Siggeir's Clan. When Sinfjötli died, Odin himself brought his body aboard a ship and disappeared.[2] His current form is a kind of wraith possessing the body of a wolf marked by Odin's runes.[1]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Sinfjötli is aggressively hostile to his opponents such as Ragnar, and protective of family such as his niece. He's very stoic, focused, and holds a strong sense of clan honor. Despite he and his partner, Percival, coming from different backgrounds and religions, they're cooperative and cordial with each other, with Sinfjötli even willing to share alcohol with Percival and lamenting that a curse from his God prevents him from opening his heart to Percival.
Role[]
Fate:Lost Einherjar[]
9th Century[]
Long after his death and the end of the Age of Gods, Sinfjötli returns to Scandinavia in the body of a wolf and meets his niece, Aslaug, for the first time. He warns Ragnar Lodbrok that if Ragnar hurts Aslaug or proves unworthy of marrying her, Sinfjötli will kill him.[3]
21st Century[]
Sinfjötli is summoned as a Servant by Gagam Istorre and fights alongside Percival in the Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail War. In a cruel twist of fate, one of his opponents is Aslaug.
Sinfjötli first appears to retrieve Percival and their Master's sister Memel from their fight with Ragnar and Aslaug, with his ship Fjord Drakkar. Though he does not reveal his face to the enemy, Ragnar recognizes him but keeps quiet about it.[4]
The next day Percival and Sinfjötli share cans of beer with each other before fighting Ragnar and Aslaug again in the area around Oslo's history museumWP. His Fjord Drakkar chases Aslaug's mythril harp throughout the area, and the fight climaxes with Percival destroying the museum using his Noble Phantasm, with Ragnar and Aslaug inside. While Percival goes to investigate the rubble only to find out that the two survived, Ragnar keeps him occupied and has their Master, Lemina, use a Command Spell to teleport Aslaug up to Sinfjötli's ship. Ragnar knew that Sinfjötli would hesitate to attack his niece, which proves to be his undoing as Aslaug, who does not recognize or remember him, kills him without a second thought. His last words are telling her to live on.[5]
Abilities[]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (B Rank): Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by greater magecraft and Greater Rituals, he is hardly harmed.
- Riding (A+ Rank): Can control an impossible boat, the underworld ship that is his Noble Phantasm.[2]
- Divinity (B Rank): Has a high degree of Divine Spirit aptitude.
Personal Skills[]
- Volsung's Merit (A Rank): He is a powerful brave soldier with pronounced Volsung blood. This includes the effects of the Valor Skill, and under exceptional circumstances, the effects of Monstrous Strength.[2]
- Grotesque Warrior (C+ Rank): A grotesque wolf-headed warrior with sharp claws and notorious beastly nature. Sinfjötli doesn't have this Skill if manifested normally.[2]His ability to shoot his claws as projectiles and quickly regrow them may be a product of this Skill.
- Battle Acceleration (Beast) (B+ Rank): A Skill altered because he obtained the Grotesque Warrior Skill. Special techniques to close the gap between himself and a target. Considerably reduces the movement penalties when hyper-accelerated.[2]
Noble Phantasm[]
Sinfjötli's Noble Phantasm is the underworld ship Fjord Drakkar. The great god Odin ferried the corpse of his blood descendant Sinfjötli through the fjords on his ship. This ship is an underworld ship meant to traverse between the realms of the dead and the living, so it can be used as a form of Self-Destructive Noble Phantasm that takes his prey's souls away from the present world along with himself.[2]
Fjord Drakkar takes the appearance of a Viking ship. Its speed is regulated by a sail of light on its cross-shaped mast, and the rows of shields on the flanks of the ship can serve as magical energy thrusters. When not using the ship, its mast can be used as a pike.[2]
In Fate:Lost Einherjar, he sails it alongside Percival, thus utilizing this as a powerful mobile weapon that makes best use its mobility and stealth capabilities while using Percival as the ship's "main cannon". His Master forbids him from unleashing the Noble Phantasm's True Name as that's how he can use the Self-Destructive Noble Phantasm form.[2]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Sinfjötli is designed by Shirow Miwa. Miwa had previously worked for Type-Moon as the illustrator for Sigurd and Brynhildr in Fate/Grand Order, but he had also secretly designed other Norse characters including Sinfjötli as fan art on his own time, not as something Type-Moon asked him to do.[6] He eventually submitted the designs for approval after seeing how Columbus Lily had also started as fan art,[7] which led to the development of Fate:Lost Einherjar and the designs being canonized.[8]
