Singularities (特異点, Tokuiten?) are spaces that are not part of the regular temporal axis.[1] Singularities make up much of the main focus of the Grand Orders in Fate/Grand Order.
Characteristics[]
Singularities are unobservable regions that do not exist within Chaldea's recorded history. It's as if a hole has opened up within the timeline, a hole that is separate from the regular temporal axis.[1] If Human History is thought of as one long scroll, Singularities are like stains that weaken the scroll by contaminating the history around them.[2] They are special timelines disregarded by both past and future history. These distortions of space and time on the band of Human History, if the cause is not found and erased, will eventually restabilise as new bands and threaten the cornerstones of Human History - the Textures.[3][4]
Certain Singularities have their own individual circumstances and mechanisms, however the Goetia-style Singularities involved in the Human Order Incineration Incident follow a general pattern and possess common characteristics. They are sustained by a Goetia-manufactured Holy Grail, which is given to a certain individual within a key historical time period, typically someone who will use it to cause major disruption to history and destabilize the Human Order Foundations; with the Quantum Time-Locks destroyed, the Proper Human History falls apart and the future is reduced to a mass of arbitrary possibilities. When this is insufficient, a Demon God host may further manipulate individuals and events in order to achieve this end or even intervene by using the Holy Grail itself.[5][6] Left unchecked, the era in which the Singularity manifests in will be destroyed completely under the strain of the impossible events that the Singularity forces into existence, causing the end of history itself. Goetia sought to use the Magical Energy generated by the Incineration of Humanity to travel back in time to the formation of the world, allowing him to change its fundamental laws in a way that would remove the concept of death from existence.
The power of the Holy Grails and the circumstances within the Singularities allow for the summoning of Servants and their continued existence in the world, even without a Master. Various Servants are summoned to the era under these conditions without individuals performing a summoning ceremony. The Servants often play a key role in bringing about the disruption to history, as well as resolving it. It is theorized that these Master-less Servants are summoned by the Holy Grail itself as a reaction to its abuse- in effect, it acts as a distorted Holy Grail War in which the Holy Grail already has an owner.[5][6][7][8][9]
The seven primary Singularities involved in the Human Order Incineration Incident have a Human Order Foundation Value (人理定礎, Jinrui Teiso?) associated with them.
The emergence of large Singularities cause disturbances and fluctuations in time which spread out through history like a wave, and can cause other, smaller Singularities to emerge at other points in time.[10] Left unattended to, these Singularities can grow and become a threat in their own right. Sometimes these small Singularities disappear on their own, leaving behind Holy Grails formed from the condensed Magical Energy of the Singularity.
When the Holy Grail empowering a Singularity is recovered or eliminated and the threats it produced are neutralized, the timeline will begin to restore itself and the Singularity will eventually disperse. However, lingering temporal anomalies such as the presence of Phantasmal Species can compromise the recovery process and even run the risk of the Singularity reconstituting itself.
There are also existences known as Mobile Singularities (移動特異点, Idō Tokuiten?) which cause a similar distortion where everything and anything is possible, though usually on a smaller scale. Almost akin to a Holy Grail, these include Sliders such as the female Miyamoto Musashi.[11]
Because of humanity's destruction in 2015, due to the collapse of the Human Order Foundation, Chaldea is forced to travel to Singularities in the past in order to fix the irregularities of history caused by various Holy Grails. The 'Grand Order' is a "name for those who would rise up against human history for the sake of humanity, and combat fate itself."[12]
Rin's Singularity[]
A Singularity made by Rin Tohsaka one month before the events of Fate/hollow ataraxia, and half a year after the Fuyuki Holy Grail War. An accident, which came to be called "the Winchester Event", caused by Rin's attempt at her home to create a pendant as a miniature imitation of Zelretch's Jeweled Sword that can monitor waves from Parallel Worlds. As the feat is something she would never succeed with in a million years, she obviously failed and caused an explosion of Second Magic on an unimaginable scale, as well as losing all her collected materials, data, and money. In order to avoid gaining a Sealing Designation, she was forced to leave for an extended stay to the Clock Tower in an attempt to "fix what's loose", and she hasn't returned in over a month.[13]
According to Illyasviel von Einzbern, Rin's attempt fired off a "Singularity (特異点, Tokuiten?)" that was not processed for use as a weapon, which almost turned Fuyuki City into a "mini-terminal". This "almost" had the law of causality go awry, events to get mixed up through the crossing of phenomena, and for the future to lead into the past, causing the world to almost turn into a place where anything is possible; more precisely, the world almost turned into one where all possible outcomes of Fuyuki were drawn in. Although no one seems to notice it - or more accurately no one is sure what exactly happened due to the explosion of Second Magic - but it ended with a world where Shirou won the Holy Grail War, did not use the Holy Grail, the Holy Grail was got ridden of, all the Servants are still around and most of the Masters are still alive with their Command Spells intact.[13]
Imitation Singularities[]
Imitation Singularities (模倣特異点, Mohō Tokuiten?) are Singularities created by Beast VI/S to imitate the seven Singularities created by Goetia during the Human Order Incineration Incident.

Idea Blood[]
Idea Blood: Hemonomic Principle (原理血戒, Genri Kekkai?) is the blood that makes a Dead Apostle Ancestor an Ancestor, said to be the "Mandate (戒め, Imashime?) of the Original Cause (大本, Ōmoto?, "Root/Origin") engraved upon their soul". A "Truth" that they have each attained, the worldview that makes up the foundation of their "thirst". It can be called a Dead Apostle's thesis, purpose for living and their undying curse. A Singularity (特異点, Tokuiten?) that paints over the planet's physical laws just by circulating blood. Wherever an Ancestor asserts their Idea Blood becomes their territory, subject to the influence of their Principle's curse. Arcueid compares it to a "crown" as the inheritance of the Idea Blood will raise the inheritor to a Rank IX Ancestor regardless of their original rank.[14][15]

[] Tsukihime Material I - GLOSSARY: Hemonomic Principle, p.100 Hemonomic Principle
Idea Blood. The quality of the blood that makes the Ancestors what they are, and a foundational commandment etched on their soul.
The Dead Apostles who inherited this blood would always rise up to become Ancestors no matter their rank; Arcueid compared it to a "crown".
On the other hand, a millennium-class foundation is needed for the Hemonomic Principle to function, and even if a Dead Apostle with hundreds of years of activity were to inherit it they would be crushed by that curse. Properly speaking it was not something that Vlov could withstand, but thanks to a technique given to him by a certain Dead Apostle as well as his desire for revenge against that person he managed to retain his sanity until the end.
- ↑ Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- - Moon Princess route - Day 5: "Infernal River of Blood II"
