Soujuurou Shizuki (静希草十郎, Shizuki Sōjūrō^?, localized as Soujyuro Sizuki) is a student attending Private Misaki High School in Misaki Town, living with Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji at the Kuonji Residence. He is one of the protagonists of Mahou Tsukai no Yoru.

Profile

Background

Soujuurou Shizuki is a young man from a rural location, having lived deep in the mountains without even electricity. He was raised by the same assassin organization as Souichirou Kuzuki from Fate/stay night. He once has been attacked by wild dogs during the time he lived in the mountains. There are traces of scars from bite wounds on the left arm.

He moves into Misaki Town and attends Private Misaki High School, Class C.

Appearance

Shizuki is a teenager of average height, with grey eyes and dark messy hair. Despite his scrawny appearance and demeanor, he is in fact quite athletic. He has bite scars around his left arm and his neck, which he always covers with bandages. Aoko later provides a special collar for him to wear, which can strangle him at will when he disobeys her.

He is often seen wearing his high school uniform, sometimes with a coat over it, or a blue tracksuit. While going out, he wears a warm dark jacket, black T-shirt, dark grey trousers and black boots.

Personality

Soujuurou is a person of few words, but possesses a warm personality in contrast to Aoko and Alice. He is the kind of person that most people can grow accustomed to. He is a stable and composed guy who tends to keep quiet, even if he really believes in something. While not a special person, he is not entirely "ordinary" either. He is considered to be absolutely harmless by other characters, and Yuika Suse, who can "see" evil intentions in people, cannot feel his presence at all. However he can display a cold and even violent nature in rare cases, especially when his or someone else's life is in danger, embodying "A good man on the surface, but in reality...", though Aoko points out that anger does not suit him at all.

He doesn't possess a "self" when he first arrives in the city, and he cannot even qualify as a human. Later, it is revealed that unconsciously envies Aoko, since she possesses a very strong, unwavering personality. Normal humans will have subjective thought mixed into whatever they see, and they will choose what to see and what not to see. In his case, he will not know how to judge the value of something or the basis of whether it is good or evil until he fully understands it. He is forced to slowly adjust to human society as time passes. Alice wishes for his core way of thinking to never change, while Aoko thinks that the way he keeps changing is dangerous. In a way, it is as if he is in a time slip state. He is impressed by the city at first, but slowly adjusts to ordinary high school life.

His attitude to Magecraft is quite special. He does not feel the difference between magecraft and regular technology at first sight. To his eyes, casting a spell and making a phone call are a similar thing at first. That is why he accepts the fact that Aoko and Alice are mages so relatively easily.

Soujuurou knows the concept of trying for children. But, because it's not something he ever thought would be relevant to him, he'll eventually have to go "hey, wait a second" at some point in the future. Kinoko Nasu states that he's definitely peerless, an utter beast in bed.

Soujuurou winds up living at the Kuonji mansion as well, despite Alice's attempts to drive him away by ignoring him, and Alice develops uncertain feelings toward him.

Fate/Grand Order

In addition to being summoned as a Servant, the living Soujuurou appears as an adult during the Witch on the Holy Night x Fate/Grand Order collaboration event. In the year 2001, Soujuurou now has a job as the assistant to detective Tobimaru Tsukiji.

Soujuurou is the strongest TYPE-MOON protagonist when he first arrives from the mountains, but he gradually becomes weaker as he gets used to civilization and settles down as an "individual." He seemingly possess the same strength as when he is summoned as a Servant.

Combat

Soujuurou received combat training when he lived in the mountains. As such he was used to dealing with large beasts by himself, and his risk avoidance and optimization of routes to complete tasks were elevated into an everyday habit. He lacks the basal ganglia, which routinizes originally complex movements into simple regulated patterns, reducing the load on the brain. As such Soujuurou executes the complexly interconnected movements of their breath, bones, muscles, and nerves manually. Even ordinary things like walking or simply raising one's hand would require tremendous effort. It would be sensical to think that they would spend their life in a hospital, or require the aid of a machine. But Soujuurou is able to move his body just like a normal person can, naturally and without issue. While normal people move their limbs through the aid of the basal ganglia without fully grasping their bodies; Soujuurou has to strain his thoughts for every motion while fully grasping every inch of his body. Repeating the same motion with less than a millimeter of error is practically the same as breathing for him. Once Soujuurou does an action once, he can recreate it without the slightest mistake. This allows him to recreate his strongest technique perfectly after doing it one time.

He possesses incredible physical abilities which is further boosted when he gains a surge of mental strength at moments of peril. Specifically the vigor and willpower that comes with having a defined objective. This whittles away his invisible force of fortuity.

Animals instinctively limit their strength in order to protect their bodies. Compensating for physical weakness with intellect and technique was humanity's forte. Yet Soujuurou is able to go beyond the limits of humans, by attacking without concern for his own safety. By ignoring self-preservation, Soujuurou was able to destroy the heart of Lugh Beowulf, a two thousand year-old Elemental who could not be injured by tank shells, or the Thames Troll. He utilized a technique that was designed to create a weakness in something that had none. A strike meant to disable rather than to break.

He sacrificed his entire body and put his entire being into piercing the legendary werewolf's chest. He found its weak point and calculated the exact position, timing, and distance he would need to hold his ground. Soujuurou concentrated all of his power into a single point, his left arm. The punch disabled Beo's defenses for just a moment, which allowed Soujuurou to follow-up with an elbow attack that ruptured Beo's heart. A graceless second strike, that was only made possible by his first punch. However, his right leg, which took Beo's charge, was functionally destroyed, as was his left arm, which delivered the punch, and his right elbow. His spine had ruptured, which caused widespread internal bleeding.

Another technique Soujuurou can use is Coordi■■■■s unknown - Evil spirit ■■■■ing, a technique which allows him to hit a target with a single unavoidable blow. The more "unfair nonsense" the opponent's defense possesses, the more the "unrealistic attack they suffer becomes impossible to perceive/adapt/decipher." It is a technique first utilized by him during an undescribed event in 1991, utilizing a keepsake from Alice Kuonji and requiring his body to be in its prime.

The living Soujuurou during the Kumano Hot Springs incident utilizes it against the Shiny Star, an existence that rejects all physical attacks from Aoko Aozaki. While it seems impossible to replicate, as his body was no longer in its prime and Alice's keepsake was not in his possession, Soujuurou is able to replicate the technique again due to his ability to recreate a past action without the slightest deviation, but as he was not in his prime and the storm of True Ether created by the Shiny Star, it came at the cost of destroying his body. At the cost of his life, he's able to land a single blow on the untouchable Shiny Star, disrupting it long enough for Aoko to utilize her Singularity plan.

Development

Creation and Conception

In the unpublished version of the novel, Kinoko Nasu and Takashi Takeuchi portrayed Soujuurou as a wild mannered, 180cm tall athletic boy. Souichirou Kuzuki in Fate/stay night has inherited his design.

Hirokazu Koyama claims that in the original script, Soujuurou wasn't such an uncivilized yet masculine character, but he was more like Mikiya Kokutou from Kara no Kyoukai. This is also related to his misunderstanding to Takeuchi's blueprint. As a result, his design was not easily settled. In the final product, Koyama redesigned Soujuurou because he had confidence with the thought "I think my first impression of Soujuro will work," and convinced others to go with his view.

Soujuurou Shizuki was designed by Hirokazu Koyama in Fate/Grand Order.
