Space Ishtar (スペース・イシュタル, Supēsu Ishutaru?), Class Name Avenger (アヴェンジャー, Avenjā?), is an Avenger-class Servant Universe Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Space Ishtar, also known as S Ishtar (Sイシュタル?), is the Servant Universe version of Ishtar. In this alternate universe, she is one of the two alter egos of Ashtart Origin. She is the evil half of the goddess Ashtoret, the Cerebral Corpus of the goddess, raised to be good by Professor Tokiomi.[4] After his death, Tokiomi entrusted his daughter's future to a trusted assistant. "Even though I taught her everything about good exactly as it was in the textbooks, she quickly saw through my hypocrisy (because Space Ishtar is a smart girl), so one day, most likely when I'm no longer by her side, she might get tired of being good and revert back to her evil nature. However Calamity Jane is good to the core, can't tell lies, and always finds the truth, all while bringing chaos and destruction everywhere she goes. So, if she sees Jane and that makes her realizes that good and evil are not necessarily like oil and water, I'm sure she at least won't degrade herself into pure evil." Just as the professor predicted, S.Ishtar didn't degrade into evil. Instead she trained herself to become a top tier snarker and is living a respectful(?) adult life as a wild dog Bounty Hunter who snaps easily and can be an annoying penny-pincher, but charges at the strong to help the weak. Jane, however, remained exactly the same, surprisingly enough.[2]
When summoned by Chaldea, she is Ishtar Ashtart's second Ascension.
Appearance[]
Although Space Ishtar is 24 years old,[5] she actually looks younger than her regular counterpart.[7] This is because servants stop aging when they are in the prime of their lives. In her case, fourteen, the age at which she left her home.[5]
Personality[]
Space Ishtar is the "tomboy" aspect of Ishtar Ashtart. An outlaw, but a heroine of justice nevertheless. She's in a weird position where she plays with villainous tactics, but what she does is for the people. Her alignment is Evil because she perceives herself as a threat to humanity, but that doesn't mean she's wicked or evil. Her personality is pretty much the same as the Pan-Human Ishtar, except she would never thoughtlessly toy with others. She triumphantly acknowledges a person's good deeds as righteous, and rejoices inside. And the person's bad deeds are acknowledged as terrible, and met with hostile glares and unreserved insults. (And if the person in question is a scoundrel, she will mercilessly exploit their property, life and fate.)[2]
S.Ishtar has the same foolhardy personality as Ishtar and despises the human society's harshness and shallowness, but despite all this, she is relatively concerned about the people's lifestyles, and takes virtuous humans relatively seriously to heart, leading her to ultimately prioritizing everyone's victory over her own reward... a trend very unbecoming of an Ishtar.[2]
Take the Summer Race situation for example. Ishtar tried to sacrifice those around her to revive Gugalanna in order to restore her rights, but if it were S.Ishtar, she would realize her mistake at the last minute, destroy Gugalanna by her own hand and distribute its resources among the participants. "I'm going bonkers thinking about how much of a missed opportunity this was, but I just felt like this was the right thing to do! Y'know, I can't lie to myself, can I?" As you can see, she's basically Ishtar, but she'll never stay an enemy of humanity in the late game.[2]
Her attitude towards her master, Ritsuka Fujimaru is one of curiosity, interest, and fondness. She assumes all humans are weak, however, their ability to understand and learn about Servants piques her interest. While she does not respect her master, they are still very important to her. Despite the differences in their universes and her own self-deception, she cannot help but develop feelings for them.[3]
Relationships[]
- Calamity Jane
- "Even Jane got summoned here. Uh-huh. What? You have a thing for older women or something?" [1]
- Her partner who stayed with her through thick and thin. Her family that she can rely on the most in the universe, but also the troublemaker she can trust the least in the universe.[3]
- Mysterious Heroine X
- "Are my eyes playing tricks on me? I thought I saw a killer wearing a blue tracksuit and a blue hat pass by... Huh? She really is here? And she's been here since the beginning!? I see... So she was the cause of everything... I guess when the world around you expands, things like that can happen..."[1]
- A reliable comrade she got to know as a bounty hunter. She doesn't know anything about her other than that.[3]
- Mysterious Heroine XX
- The demon-like OL that taught S.Ishtar a lesson on several occasions, after she got carried away from her goddess powers in the "Galactic 3 Goddess Alliance" volume. She doesn't know anything about her other than that.[3]
- Ishtar (Swimsuit)
- "I'm not interested in the me in this universe, but THAT Servant's an exception! Who, you ask? I'm talking about Rider Ishtar. If only my spaceship was as cute as hers!"[1]

Abilities[]
Although Ishtar was raised by Professor Tokiomi believing she was a Divine Spirit Servant, she actually isn't. She is one half of the core of a genuine goddess, the Primordial Goddess Ashtart Origin.[13] She's foolhardy and powerful when it comes to living.[2] Space Ishtar is a Pseudo-Servant,[13] and although she poses as an Archer,[2] she actually belongs to the Extra Class Avenger for whatever reason.[2][10][16] When summoned by Chaldea, Space Ishtar is Ishtar Ashtart's second Ascension.[2]
Combat[]
Space Ishtar wields a pistol that she uses together with her sword. It fires bullets which curve from behind, or a row of energy rings. She also possesses an energy beam cannon.[6] Space Ishtar's best attacks are Buster-type,[15] and she claims to have as much of an advantage against Lancers as Mysterious Heroine X does.[14] Despite never having been formally taught swordplay, her sword fighting style is exactly like Warrior of Darkness MUNENORI's.[8]
Despite Ishtar surviving Billy the Flash's Noble Phantasm, it still injured her considerably. Although Billy says that is the result of him trading speed for power, he notes that Ishtar is not a normal Servant, and that he'd have to blast her head or her heart to actually end her. By this point, Ishtar claims that she can no longer keep up with his speed. It is only thanks to Ritsuka Fujimaru instantly healing her and replenishing her Magical Energy with a Command Spell that she manages to defeat him before he gets the opportunity to fire his Noble Phantasm again. Ishtar claims that she could have never done it without the support of a Master.[8]
During the Saber Wars II incident, Space Ishtar gets to fight the other Six Blades. This time, with the support of Calamity Jane and Mysterious Heroine X. Altera of the Shooting Star claims that when they work together, their "bravery" rivals their own.[9] The team is able to defeat a multitude of Sigurd's Disciples. Robots that had been cloned from Sigurd the Dragon-slayer Sword. However, it is noted that due to the low temperatures of the planet they were fighting on, they couldn't fight as well as they did back when they were in Dark Maanna. Despite this cold also hindering Anastasia the Freezing Sword, Anastasia has no problem deflecting Space Ishtar's bullets. Nevertheless, Anastasia ends up being defeated all the same, saying she can't believe she lost "so miserably".[10] This team was also strong enough to defeat Lancelot the Darkened Sword.[12] During their fight with Xiang Yu the Monstrous Sword, they also had the support of Jaguar Man. They manage to defeat Xiang Yu, with Jaguar Man dealing the finishing blow.[13]
However, when the team faces Ashtart for the first time, they are completely outclassed. After their first clash, Space Ishtar is the only one that is still standing up, and she admits that she can't handle a candle to Ashtart. Because Ashtart's drive, skill, and training wildly surpass Ishtar's, she's not even deemed a decent fight by Ashtart's standards. It is only with the boost of a Command Spell that Space Ishtar is momentarily able to hold back Ashtart.[13]
When the team faces Sigurd the Dragon-slayer Sword, Sigurd reveals the secrets about Ishtar's past. Although Ishtar was still shaken up by said revelations, Sigurd doesn't give her any time to recover, and immediately attacks them. Something that isn't honorable. In this state, their swordplay is no match for Sigurd's. When Ishtar and Ashtart fight again in a one-on-one duel, Ishtar is reacting faster than she was the first time, although that's also the case for Ashtart. The two of them were pushing each other to greater heights. Despite them being seemingly even for the most part, Ashtart eventually loses.[16] Later on, Space Ishtar fights Warrior of Darkness MUNENORI,[17] one of the two strongest members of the Space Shinkageryu alongside Sigurd.[15] She also defeats him.[17]

Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Space Ishtar was designed by Shidzuki Morii in Fate/Grand Order.[3] Her scenario writer is Kinoko Nasu in Fate/Grand Order.[3]
Comments from the Illustrator[]
Fate/Grand Order material X[]
"According to Space Ishtar's initial setting, there was only one character, and the trend was that said one character would transform through ascension. However, in the settings of the character that I received, there were 3 characters: a good, an evil, and a space-like one. Since they each had parents and their own personal histories, I ended up imagining the lives and lifestyles that each of them have built up so I did not want to omit any of them which I told Nasu-san as well. That there are 3 characters, aren't there. And that's how we ended up with around 3 characters. In terms of the direction for the design, for her first ascension, I expanded the image from her countenance when she was a mimic in "hollow". The second one is in the style of a free-spirited bounty-hunter cowgirl pairing up with her partner Jane, and the third was designed with a not-so MADE IN JIGOKU feel. Since the three are identical yet different characters, I paid attention to making them appear as their own existences even if they were to be lined up next to each other so it wouldn't feel like the character was simply changing her outfit. The ribbon is the same as the one worn in "EXTRA". I asked Hirai Yukio-san to design the Maanna spaceship that flies through the galaxy. I'm so grateful to him... At first, we were going to go with a gigantic spaceship like in Independence Day for the Goddess Temple, but god-knows-how, it ended up with the form of a giant goddess."[3]
Chaldea Breakroom[]
"There were a lot of unique aspects to [Space Ishtar] that were created for every Ascension level (though that was not the initial plan), and her designs were based on each of these. For her first Ascension form, I made it so that her coloring was primarily black to emphasize her darker aspect. For her second Ascension, I received very clear design directions from Nasu-san, so I designed her in a cowgirl outfit that would complement her partner, Calamity Jane. Her third Ascension retained her [darker] aspect, but I also wanted to incorporate some elements that seemed extraterrestrial, inorganic, or conceptual, with a sprinkling of mythological components, and topped it off with some spacey details. I have very fond memories of going through the entire design process, and I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to work on Space Ishtar's design." [18]
