Mistaken Identity?
I do believe there's been a mix up here. That "Initial Concept" sketch to my understanding isn't an initial concept for Gawain, it's a sketch of Clair from Baccano! as a servant that was done around the time it's author wrote up the first April Fool's crack for Strange Fake. Gawain's Death
Does anyone know if the Japanese version of Fate/Extra states that Gawain Died by Lancelot's hands? Because if so, there is a rather large discrepency in the Fate/ verse for that reason, regardless of the alternate universes. So far as I know, time only changed it's course during the 1900s, if memory serves right. Which, in such case, would not affect the legends of the Epic Heroes of Arturia's time. Thusly, Lancelot admitted he could not make it back to Camlann for the final battle, which means either Gawain was killed before Camlann, Lancelot is lying about that, or Gawain's history in the translated dub is wrong. - Gawain's bio in EXTRA doesn't say anything about him being killed by Lancelot. It says that he was killed during the battle of Camlann due to the wound Lancelot dealt to him. This is paralleled in the game's story, where your Servant gets a strike on Gawain in the Arena, negating his invincibility and allowing you to slay him during the Elimination Battle later.--Otherarrow (talk) 16:39, September 16, 2013 (UTC)
The third paragraph in his bio in the english release states, and I quote: "Although his hostility inevitably led to his death at the hands of Sir Lancelot, he realised that it was his own lack of virtue that led to Sir Lancelots betrayal and the defeat of King Arthur at the battle of Camlann Hill." - Lancelot dealt him the wound that ended up being used to slay him. The bio also says that he lived long enough to see Camelot crumble (for which he blames himself for). Maybe it's an error, maybe it's just inconsistent mythology (seriously, there are like a hundred versions of the Arthur story) I wouldn't worry too much about it.--Otherarrow (talk) 20:06, September 16, 2013 (UTC)
- Why does the page say Gawain dislikes his older wife? Didn't the original text say the curse was lifted and they had a happy ending?
Mordred
Did they ever confirm what Gawain's relationship with Mordred is? In most versions of the legend he is either Mordred's brother, or his cousin; since Arthur/Saber/Arturia/Altria/Whatever is noted as one of his relatives in the relatives section of his wiki page, should Mordred not also feature there? Obviously it depends on whom we believe to be Gawain's mother. If his father is still King Lot, then his mother would likely be Anna/Morgause, making him Mordred's cousin. But if Morgause and Morgan have been compressed into a single character by Nasu, then they would be brothers. - The Camelot singularity in FGO has confirmed that Gawain was indeed the son of Morgan- eldest in fact. Agravain was (shockingly) the youngest. Siege Perilous
Bit of trivia that's not mentioned on the page, but IMHO should be.
Gawain's defensive skill, Siege Perilous, in Fate/Extra, shouldn't actually be a skill he has. The Siege Perilous in Arthurian legend was a seat in Camelot said to only be able to be sat upon by the one destined to find the Holy Grail. All knights who sat upon it and weren't worthy met with death shortly after, as the seat had been enchanted by Merlin, save one, Sir Galahad. His ability to sit in the Siege Perilous established his destiny as the chosen one. In some versions of the story it's Sir Perceval instead. Either way, in neither case is it Sir Gawain, so him having this skill is kind of an interesting bit of trivia.
- It could be a reference to him being one of the three knights to achieve the grail, even if his success is less known than the other two. Percival came before Galahad as the grail knight, and in the first continuation of his unfinished story, Gawain takes over as the grail knight, though he does not obtain the grail despite healing the fisher king and his lands.
