Thorn (イバラ?) is the codename of one of several operation teams of the organization used by Faldeus Dioland to monitor and control the happenings of the True and False Holy Grail Wars of Fate/strange Fake. Thorn's purpose is acting as an anti-Magus squad.[1]
Profile[]
Background[]
Most members of the team were unfamiliar with Magi prior to being assigned to the Holy Grail War in Snowfield, and were taught how to deal with them by Faldeus. [2] Three members of the team are in fact moles for the Scladio Family.[3]
Appearance[]
Each soldier wears camouflage gear, covering their faces with black balaclavas so that it is hard to discern their ethnic backgrounds or emotional state.[2]
Role[]
Fate/strange Fake[]
Thorn is used to execute Rohngall as part of Faldeus' declaration of intent towards the Mage's Association. He explains to the soldiers unfamiliar with Magi that what they destroyed was actually just a Puppet body.[2]
Thorn is later ordered by Faldeus to monitor the situation around the mansion in which Sigma uses as a base.[1]
After they kill Flat Escardos, a mysterious entity emerges from Flat and takes over his body, proceeding to massacre all of the Thorn soldiers in the area, including the Jackal, Spade, and Wineglass units.[4] At least one unit of Thorn soldiers, having been previously abandoned by Faldeus on suspicion they had been placed under a brainwashing spell by Richard I or his Master, survived the attack. This unit briefly joined up with Sigma and learned of Faldeus' intent to destroy the city using the Aurora Fall contingency plan.[5] Another such discarded squad survived in the desert area surrounding the city.[6]
Abilities[]
Thorn is a heavily armed assault team specialized in anti-Magus tactics. Each possesses a "silencer-equipped assault rifle, each engraved with a different design, rustic, yet detailed." On Faldeus’ signal, over a dozen Thorn snipers can easily eliminate any target from various locations.[2] Sigma considers the combat abilities of the members of Thorn to be superior to his own.[7]
They can telepathically communicate with Faldeus via Magecraft if their mundane communication methods are disrupted.[4]
