« A Singularity where heroes have rebelled.
Three kings reigning over three realms. An uminaginable world where Servant forces clash.
Prayer, doctrine... Even righteousness is not valid in this merciless war that consumes all.
I'm here thanks to you. »

(Kadoc Zemlupus)

The Traum Singularity, defined as an UNKNOWN RECORD, is a singularity manifested upon the blankened Earth during the Human Order Revision Incident. Located in xx17 AD North America, its Humanity Foundation Value is ERROR, and it is created and maintained by Specimen E for the purpose of enacting its revenge on the Human Order. It is visited by Chaldea Security Organization in the undertaking of the Grand Order to restore Earth and the Human Order.

The events of Chaldea's visit to this Singularity are covered in an event of Cosmos of the Lostbelt; Realm of the Thanatos Impulse, Traum: Life and Death of an Illusion (死想顕現界域 トラオム 或る幻想の生と死, Shisō Kengen Kaiiki Toraomu Aru Gensō no Sei to Shi?). It is the first story chapter to have multiple playable Masters: in addition to controlling Ritsuka Fujimaru as usual, the player also controls Kadoc Zemlupus for some battles.

History[]

Prologue[]

Sion Eltnam Sokaris and Leonardo da Vinci discuss what constitutes a perfect human. As the exact definition of perfection is vague, Sion, to simplify things, defines perfection as a lack of error in a person’s judgement. Da Vinci surmises Sion is saying that a perfect human makes no oversight. Sion argues the opposite also applies, where a perfect problem fools even a perfect human. But Da Vinci posits the mistake isn’t necessarily a mistake, rather the person willingly ignored it. Before the discussion can go any further, Captain Nemo reports the Storm Border is due to depart the Arctic Circle.[1]

Sion recaps how following the Alien God’s destruction of the Wandering Sea, Chaldea had made the Storm Border their new base and has been relying on TRISMEGISTUS II’s future forecasts to ensure their safety.[1]

So far, they have been all over of Eurasia, occasionally making landfall to convert buildings into spiritrons to replenish their resources. They were in the Arctic Circle because TRISMEGISTUS II proposed it as the safest place to be until yesterday.[1]

With the weaponization of Holy Sword Essence they obtained in the British Lostbelt nearly complete, Chaldea now heads for the South America Lostbelt via North America for the decisive battle against the Alien God. However, SHEBA reports a large-scale Singularity.[1]

My Only Friend Is the Coffin Maker[]

Someone makes a soliloquy about how they are a traitor to Proper Human History and the principles of honesty, unsure if it is a circumstance of their own incompetence or competence. But the day to put an end to their sins, fate, obligations will arrive at last beneath Reichenbach Falls.[2]

At the Storm's bridge, Sion explains the Singularity’s year is uncertain, but it is at least during the 1700s. Its location can assumed to be the United States of America. Its observation values are extremely erratic thanks to the ceaseless ripples of magical energy occurring. Stranger still is that the Singularity’s Humanity Foundation Value is ERROR.[2]

Chaldea decides they must investigate the Singularity if they wish to know more. Since he’s suitable for Rayshift, Sherlock Holmes is immediately chosen to join the expedition. Da Vinci says there is one more Servant who will join, but it isn’t Mash since the Ortenaus is still undergoing maintenance. There is also concern that her Spirit Origin got out of sync given how she fought fiercely in the British Lostbelt and the Tunguska Sanctuary without rest. Da Vinci assures Ritsuka that Mash will join once the issues are resolved. Vlad III then reveals himself to be the other Servant who’ll be joining the expedition.[2]

Sion says there are other Servants who are suitable, but the limit for this Rayshift is three people in addition to Ritsuka. Kadoc Zemulplus will be that third person, having recovered from his coma. But given his former status as a Crypter, he has been made to wear a mage-killer collar, which will be activated if he does anything suspicious. If the collar is activated, it will completely destroy Kadoc’s Magic Circuits, killing him. Unauthorized use of magecraft will also activate the collar.[2]

Privately, Sion tells Holmes she couldn’t remove the Sirius Light from Kadoc. Holmes determines the Alien God would have activated it remotely if it could. Sion believes the collar can suppress it before it can be triggered, though Holmes wishes to avoid that scenario.[2]

Sion reveals three keywords for the Singularity extracted from hieroglyphic prediction: “No Problem. Revolt. Eyelids.” The predictions also say the Singularity is on the scale of the Seven Singularities. Ritsuka, Holmes, Vlad, and Kadoc then rayshift to the Singularity.[2]

In the throne room of a sinister castle, Queen Kriemhild―――the princess in the Nibelungenlied who vowed revenged for the murder of her husband Siegfried―――executes three Servants for incompetence on the battlefield. Zhang Jue has his puppet soldiers clean up the mass and asks Kriemhild the status of the frontline.[2]

Kriemhild answers it is a stalemate, as always, finding “that man” to be nothing if not defensive. On his end, Jue says he is mobilizing everything from his puppet knowledge and the Taiping Yaoshu, though it cannot be done overnight. Kriemhild grants him time and materials, threatening to execute him should he fail.[2]

Asked by Kriemhild, Jue confirms new Servants were summoned, though it seems this time more have gone to the other factions. He also reports no activity from the Righteous Realm. Kriemhild suspects their plan is to attack when the other two sides are both occupied. Jue notes they lack the numbers for an ambush but enough to be considered a threat. The current stalemate is the result.[2]

Jue tells Kriemhild that Chaldea will be coming soon. Kriemhild muses herself with how she can make them suffer. She orders Jue to keep on guard until “his” location is confirmed and to have some of the Assassin scouting the Righteous Realm keep an eye on Chaldea.[2]

Salome enters the throne room and requests Kriemhild to save one of the Chaldeans’ heads for her if they’re lovely enough. She leaves after Kriemhild says she’ll consider it. Jue is concerned about letting Salome indulge herself, but Kriemhild allows it if she can fight.[2]

A Caster reports preparations for the experiment are complete, so Jue takes his leave.[2]

Kriemhild muses on her hatred for Chaldea, Karl der Große, and the Emperor. She blames “that hero” for everything and impatiently waits for him to be summoned.[2]

In the spacious throne room of a grand castle, a Lancer finishes his report to the Emperor. While Her Holiness grieves that more heroes perished, the Emperor finds her sorrow misplaced and reminds her they’re willing to die fighting for her. Her Holiness doesn’t think she is worthy of that, but the Emperor tells her one’s worth is determined by others as much as themselves. She has their love and respect regardless of her self-scorn, though she herself finds that too heavy a burden.[2]

Her Holiness asks the Emperor if the atrocities committed in her name are because they are on the brink of death or because he wants it. The Emperor answers he would gladly sacrifice himself to save her. Her Holiness confesses she wanted to test her worth to him, if only a little.[2]

She leaves to go worship, whispering to the Emperor to take care not to overdo it with the intrigues. Once she is gone, the Emperor finds it troubling and takes it her becoming Pope is more significant than apparent.[2]

Saber reports the successful defense of Trigonion Tower from the Revenge Realm, though ten Servants perished trying to pursue the enemy as they retreated, going against the Emperor’s orders to not pursue. There was a lapse in judgment were in the Rider, Lancer, Berserker classes. The Emperor intimidates Rider a little for his glory-seeking, but pardons him, knowing it’s hard for a warrior to suppress.[2]

Archer reports on the brawl between two Servants: a Berserker and a Saber. The Emperor orders the two to back up the rearguard in the next battle as punishment.[2]

Caster then whispers to the Emperor, suggesting cooperation with and mercy for the Proper Human History. The Emperor cuts him down immediately upon hearing this, reminding Caster they only acknowledge rebellion against it.[2]

He admits they are heroes, beings who defied the flow of history and were swallowed by it or erased. But they are no longer shackled with defending the Human Order and he personally wants to make the Proper Human History pay. This realm is for such people, so the Emperor concludes Caster’s summoning to it was distortion.[2]

Caster calls them all twisted, which the Emperor doesn’t dispute. However, he will not stop and finishes Caster off. He then leaves to go worship.[2]

In a cathedral, Her Holiness prays for her salvation. The Emperor soon joins her and they pray together on his behalf. Her Holiness internally laments she can only offer to shoulder some of his sins.[2]

In the room of a veiled throne, a Lancer concludes his report by saying the Casters analyzed that the other two realms withdrew following a brief skirmish between them. Astolfo notes the other two realms are wary of them, like always. Roland finds that par for the course and boasts that even though their force is the smallest, they can still hold off anyone if they work hard. Saber praises their realm for being most of all the home of Karl der Große, which Lancer says is why Kriemhild and Constantine are nothing compared to them.[2]

From behind the veil, the secretary of the supposed Karl speaks for him, concurring that the princess of the revenge and the emperor who failed to protect his country are no match for them. He then leaves “it” to Roland.[2]

After Roland leaves, the secretary commends “Karl” for keeping up the charade, even if he is just grunting. “Karl” fears, though, with enemy scouts penetrating further than ever, the charade will soon be discovered. The real Karl has yet to show himself, and “Karl” feats he will only be killed if his absence continues.[2]

Astolfo finds they need an event to distract suspicions away from “Karl”, such as a fourth faction. For now, he encourages dispatching the scouts to take advantage of this opportunity. “Karl” agrees to do so and orders Astolfo to defend the realm with the other classes.[2]

After Astolfo leaves, “Karl” and his secretary both agree that the fourth faction is Chaldea. However, no one knows how it will all turn out.[2]

Strange Rayshift

The Rayshift acting strange.

The heroes arrive in the Singularity, but Ritsuka and Holmes both noticed the Rayshift was different from usual. Mash confirms there was a strange fluctuation during the Rayshift. She then informs the heroes of a nearby town straight north, so they head there to gather information.[2]

Unfortunately, they find the town has been destroyed with no signs of people. Holmes asks Kadoc to give a precise analysis of the debris, suspecting the town itself is magically constructed. Kadoc analyzes the debris and confirms Holmes’s suspicions, suspecting it was made with a Caster’s Territory Creation. Holmes compares it to a movie set, given there is no evidence anyone ever lived in the town. He deduces it was a battle between Servants that destroyed the town.[2]

Mash informs the heroes there are two armies of Servants approaching their position. Holmes recommends they split up, telling Ritsuka and Kadoc to hide somewhere else. As they still need information, he tells them to pay attention to what the Servants say and do.[2]

Ritsuka and Kadoc hide in a hole they dug, covered with debris and concealed by Kadoc’s magecraft. As they lie in wait, Kadoc tells Ritsuka about how his family's anti-beast magecraft was made obsolete as humans advanced. Ritsuka asks him if he ever thought about quitting being a mage when he bemoans magecraft is fated to lose its purpose as time goes on. Kadoc warns Ritsuka any other mage would have killed them for saying that as that is essentially telling a mage to die since their life is now meaningless. But he apologizes for being harsh and admits he may still be holding a grudge.[2]

The Servants arrive and, observing them, Ritsuka and Kadoc find they are united as one army despite being from different periods and different countries. Kadoc questions how there can be so many Servants as there is a limit to the number the Holy Grail and Leyline can summon. Even if they are all Stray Servants, the number is exceptional, with a total of 200.[2]

Ritsuka and Kadoc then witness the battle between the Servants, hearing terms like Phantom-grade and Heroic Spirit-grade, Revenge Realm, Reinstatement Realm, and Righteous Realm. They also hear the names Kriemhild, Constantine, Karl der Große.[2]

Soon Constantine’s army is forced to retreat when an army led by Roland attacks. Kriemhild’s army follows suit, with their Casters turning the surrounding area into a swamp to prevent Roland’s army pursuing. After Roland’s army leaves, the heroes reconvene and head for the buildings that they are still intact.[2]

The Young Emperor[]

In a tavern, Kadoc reports his and Ritsuka’s observations. Holmes wonders if Heroic Spirit-grade and Phantom-grade are part of a ranking system, especially considering all of them are unknown heroes who wouldn’t normally be summoned as Servants. Regardless, they are all Servants, but without a Master they cannot be called thus, even if said Master is the land itself. Holmes, therefore, asks who their Master is, and if there is an exception that allows the Servants to exist without a Master.[3]

Moving the conversation to the subject of the three realms, Holmes deduces the Constantine of the Reinstatement Realm is Constantine XI and finds the word Reinstatement interesting. However, he questions if the Karl spoken of is the real one and asks Vlad if it was appropriate for the Righteous Realm Army to pull out at the moment they could take advantage of a pincer attack so they could avoid losing men. Vlad says it was, though it was poorly timed. Holmes, however, says there are several possibilities that it wasn’t poor timing.[3]

Leaving that for later, the heroes question if it’s possible to temporarily cooperate with one of the realms, considering all have Servants working together regardless of background or ideology. But before the conversation can go any further, Vlad thwarts an ambush by Assassins.[3]

After Vlad kills the Assassins, Holmes tries asking Da Vinci for the analysis of the combat data, but there is too much static. Fortunately, the signal immediately clears up. Mash says there was a lot of interference on their side once the battle started, so their data isn’t unreliable. Because communications didn’t stop functioning, Holmes deduces the interference wasn’t the result of rejecting the Proper Human History like it was in the British Lostbelt.[3]

Vlad asks Ritsuka and Kadoc if they noticed something about the battle. They both realize the Servants were empowered by a Command Spell. Kadoc notes they weren’t normal Command Spells but the Support Command Spells used by Chaldea’s Masters, each charged with enough magical energy to fire off a Noble Phantasm instantly. Ritsuka asks who gave the Command Spells then.[3]

Holmes deduces if it was a Master, they cannot be a normal human because no one would use a resource limited to three uses twice in succession, and nothing suggests they have a magic core to recharge their Command Spells..[3]

Vlad asks where the Command Spells came from, to which Ritsuka says they seemed to have come from the sky. Holmes decides it’s best to leave that subject for until they have more information. He agrees with Da Vinci they need to find a Servant that shares their interest, though he highly doubts they’ll find any locals.[3]

Suddenly, Chaldea’s special warning for a nearby Apostle of the Alien God sounds. Holmes assumes it is Grigori Rasputin given he’s the only Apostle left, but Kadoc feels that isn’t Rasputin. His feeling is confirmed when the Apostle shows himself in response to Vlad’s callout. He introduces himself as James Moriarty――――Apostle of the Alien World.[3]

The Crime of Proper Human History[]

Moriarty declares his objective is naturally to eliminate Chaldea, being an Apostle of the Alien World. Holmes is perplexed about what Moriarty just said. Da Vinci tries to say something to Moriarty, but Moriarty has no interest in speaking with a “broken doll” and jams Chaldea's communications.[4]

He clarifies his objective is to purge a traitor, though it isn’t Kadoc as the Alien God was only interested in Kirschtaria Wodime while the rest were merely accessories. Holmes realizes something and tells everyone to avoid combat at all costs. There is only one reason he would appear before the heroes at this point.[4]

Vlad hits Moriarty with Kazikli Bey, but he remains unharmed. Moriarty claims he is incomprehensible to Holmes while he knows everything Holmes is thinking and planning. He makes it clear Holmes is his target, but before he can do anything, Vlad attacks him again. Moriarty easily dodges his attack and put his finger on Vlad’s forehead, and declares he can read all of Chaldea’s actions. Vlad finds he can’t move and realizes his will to move is being suppressed.[4]

Moriarty compels Vlad to “Rise up and rebel.”, wondering which Realm he’ll choose. Vlad tells Holmes he has become a traitor to the Human Order. But refusing to be forced to follow another’s will, he hits himself with his own Noble Phantasm.[4]

Vlad has pinned himself with his own stakes. Meanwhile, Ritsuka, Kadoc, and Holmes escaped the moment his Noble Phantasm went off. Moriarty concludes they didn’t abandon Vlad as someone shouted they would be back for him.[4]

Ignoring the Sabers confronting him, Moriarty sees there is no need for him to find where Holmes escaped to as each realm is a form of rebellion against Proper Human History. The Sabers are all confused by what he is going on about. Moriarty asks them to forget everything they saw and kills them.[4]

Run, Run, Run Far Away[]

Ritsuka, Kadoc, and Holmes run into Revenge Realm patrol unit and head for a forest to hide from Archer. But as they near the treeline, Ritsuka is captured by Jue’s magecraft. At Ritsuka’s behest, Holmes and Kadoc continue to escape. But before they do, Holmes blinds Archer and Jue with his magical light. After they’re gone, Jue has Ritsuka taken in to be tortured.[5]

After getting far enough, Holmes reports their current situation to Chaldea. Mash and Goredolf Musik immediately want to launch a rescue, but Da Vinci refuses to condone any combat activity with the Ortenaus still undergoing maintenance. She then calms Mash by having her see Ritsuka’s vital signs and mental state are fine. Sion says SHEBA has predicted that Ritsuka’s vitals will be observable for the next three to seven days.[5]

Holmes suspects RItsuka will be interrogated for information and doubts they’ll be killed unless they take a hostile attitude with their captors. Mash and Goredolf accept that launching a rescue isn’t possible at the moment.[5]

With his and Kadoc’s lack of knowledge of the Xian Arts, Holmes is certain it would be foolish to charge into Jue’s fortress without a plan. So instead, he and Kadoc will go to the Reinstatement Realm to negotiate with them. He also wants to investigate what restoration refers to.[5]

Ritsuka is being transported to the Revenge Realm. During the trip, Rider recounts how the realm once had Billy the Kid, Blackbeard, Kijyo Koyo, and Frankenstein before they each died in battle. He confirms with Ritsuka that they are indeed a Master from the Proper Human History, with Saber guessing correctly that they are Japanese. But Saber tells Rider to stop talking as they’re taking Ritsuka to be executed. Rider asks Jue if that is true.

Jue doesn’t clarify and reads Ritsuka’s fortune. He finds they have terrible luck for encounters, yet also good luck. He then warns of an attack from the northeast. The party is victorious, losing only their Archer, and enters the Revenge Realm, the sky of which is tinted red.[5]

Ritsuka is brought before the queen, Kriemhild. She initially agrees with Jue to get information out of Ritsuka, but when Ritsuka asks her why they’re at war, she orders them to be publicly executed. She explains everyone rebels against the Proper Human History and she seeks to destroy it to enact her revenge. Then, on her orders, RIder escorts Ritsuka to their cell.[5]

In their cell, Ritsuka tries to contact Chaldea, but communications are still being jammed. They’re then greeted by the prisoner in the cell across from theirs. He is a Servant, but he wasn’t summoned to rebel against the Human Order, rather, he’s one of the rare Servants summoned to protect it.[5]

Countdown[]

Reinstatement Realm
Reinstatement Realm

Holmes and Kadoc have arrived in the Reinstatement Realm. Observing all the Servants, Holmes concludes they all serve one Master, acting as their anchor to the world and provider of magical energy. The Servants range from Phantom-grade for small-scale individual combat to Heroic Spirit-grade to affect a large area. It should be impossible for so many Servants to serve a singular Master because even if they are copying Chaldea’s system, they would still require a high-output source of magical energy. Kadoc says it would naturally be a Grail, though Holmes says it cannot simply being subdivided into the thirds.[6]

The two then observe Servants giving their reports to Constantine. Constantine is disappointed they have yet to get any solid information on the Righteous Realm. As such, he will not launch a full assault on the realm, considering it foolish to fight a war on two fronts. He then seems to notice Holmes and Kadoc. A hooded woman approaches the two and urges them to follow her, warning they are not safe.[6]

Constantine dismisses it and has a Saber give his report. Saber reports their Assassin under cover in the Revenge Realm has learned the Master of Chaldea is a prisoner there. Constantine orders the men to be assembled, saying Chaldea has infiltrated them.

Entering a cathedral, the woman removes her disguise and reveals she is Johanna—the Illusory Popess. Holmes introduces himself and Kadoc to her, divulging that the latter is a Master, so to gain Johanna’s trust.[6]

Johanna admits she dislikes her duty to rebel against the Human Order and admonishes herself for it. Holmes asks her to confirm his theory about the Singularity’s current state of events. Johanna agrees to do so.[6]

Holmes states the Singularity shouldn’t exist because every Heroic Spirit in it stands against the Proper Human History. He deduces the three realms each have their own Grail and are battling to seize the one another’s Grails. Kadoc immediately realizes the three Grails are what provide the Servants with magical energy.[6]

Holmes theorizes none of the Servants have ever seen their Master and because of that they have no specific orders about rebelling. So instead, they began doing whatever pleased and banded together based on shared thoughts, actions, and motivations. Without knowing what the outcome will be, they single-mindedly continue their war.[6]

Johanna calls Holmes’s analysis perfect. She says even though rebelling against the Human Order is a command no Servant should want to receive, they all accepted it. It varies from person to person, with some refusing to be convinced, but they all must obey. Their Master doesn’t even have that such power, confusing Johanna to why they can’t disobey them.[6]

Holmes asks Johanna for any peculiarities about the Realms. Johanna answers the Revenge Realm is the Reinstatement Realm’s biggest opponent at the moment, with their queen, Kriemhild, being motivated by revenge, anger, and despair, and uses Berserkers more. The Reinstatement Realm has fewer Servants but they are more organized and of higher quality. Nothing is known about the Righteous Realm’s Servants, though, as no one has been able to infiltrate its city.[6]

Johanna denies she is the only one conflicted about the orders to rebel, as everyone feels that way. Her instincts drive her to follow her Master’s command while logic compels her to save the Human Order. It was in following that logic that led her to speak with Holmes and Kadoc.[6]

Da Vinci warns Holmes that the cathedral is surrounded, so he and Kadoc need to leave; they were spotted earlier. But before they go, Holmes asks Johanna if she’s why this realm is called “Reinstatement”. Before Johanna can answer, Holmes thwarts an ambush by an Assassin and escapes with Kadoc.[6]

Johanna orders Assassin to let them go as their conversation confirmed for her that Chaldea is nothing to worry about. Constantine is glad to see she isn’t a traitor to the rebellion and agrees to ignore Chaldea for now since Holmes and Kadoc are its only two members, as Johanna believes. He then requests her to come to the castle to raise the men’s morale, which she agrees to. However, Johanna laments to herself that even though her and Constantine’s wish are doubtlessly the same, she knows it will never come true.[6]

Holmes and Kadoc successfully escape the Reinstatement Realm, though the former suspects Johanna planned for them not to be pursued wholeheartedly. Holmes also knows Johanna was trying to gathering information about Chaldea, though she didn’t contact them solely for that motive.[6]

He concludes she is agonising in her own way based on the fact she knew his and Kadoc’s identities, suspecting Moriarty has been leaking information from behind the scenes. As such, he knows Johanna was giving them information while pretending to extract information. He also deduces Johanna’s duty to her realm is contradicting with her duty as a Heroic Spirit.[6]

Though he orders the continued investigation of the Singularity, Goredolf Musik knows the Revenge Realm isn’t a place Holmes can handle alone. He therefore orders Holmes and Kadoc to gather more information and companions before planning a rescue for Ritsuka. Thus, with no alternatives, Holmes and Kadoc then depart for the Righteous Realm, with the detective suspecting it may be their only refuge[6]

Do I Want Your Head?[]

The prisoner tells Ritsuka that all of his abilities are currently sealed. He could do something if he were to unleash his Noble Phantasm, but he feels it isn’t time yet. Ritsuka asks for his name, surprising the prisoner that they never introduced themselves and spent all day talking. He realizes Ritsuka is starving and thirsty and calls for help. Ritsuka faints and sees a dream of someone searching for why the Earth went blank.[7]

When they wake up, they find Salome providing them with fruit and water. Salome agrees to bring more various food in exchange for Ritsuka telling her stories. Ritsuka tells her a few, so Salome leaves to get some food.[7]

While she is gone, the prisoner asks Ritsuka if she scares them since she is the girl who demanded the head of the holy man, Jokananan. Ritsuka isn’t scared of her as it isn’t their head that she wants.[7]

Jue arrives to have Ritsuka tortured for information. But Salome returns and kills Jue’s Torturers to show she doesn’t want Ritsuka broken by torture. Jue agrees not to torture Ritsuka and gives them a talisman to dissolve in water and drink in case they feel unwell. He then cleans up the corpses and leaves.[7]

Ritsuka eats and tells Salome more stories. After Salome leaves, the prisoner tells Ritsuka her legend to showcase her personality, but Ritsuka excuses Salome’s past since she helped them. The prisoner then claims to be Seton, though Ritsuka doesn't seem to believe him.[7]

Meanwhile, in the throne room, Jue confirms to Kriemhild that Salome has become enamored with Ritsuka. Kriemhild finds Salome taking a liking to Ritsuka only means their death is even more likely. Soon or later, Salome will see the object of love as Jokaanan and when that happens, she will lose all self-control. Kriemhild orders two Servants to be put on guard duty just in case.[7]

Putting that aside, Kriemhild asks Jue how “it” is progressing. Jue shows it and confirms it will be ready for the decisive battle on the date his divinations foretold. Kriemhild then hands him a written directive and leaves.[7]

A Caster tries to convince Jue to usurp Kriemhild with the use of “it”, confessing he doesn’t recognize her as a leader worth following. In response, Jue mortally wounds Caster and criticizes him for not recognizing Kriemhild’s power, detailing how far she went to avenge her husband’s murder. He further reveals to the dying Caster that the directive was to eliminate him, criticizing him for not making any preparations ahead of time. Caster disappears afterward.[7]

Meanwhile, after interrogating an Archer, Holmes deduces the locations of the three realms. Revenge lies to the north, Reinstatement to the east, and Righteous to the southwest. According to the Archer, the other realms have dispatched a considerable number of spies but have yet to get an overview of the Righteou Realm's city. Besides their natural defenses, the Righteous Realm's fortresses are also protected by Bounded Fields weaved from a myriad of different spells. Holmes and Kadoc then head off to climb the mountains.[7]

I Don't Want Your Head[]

Salome has changed her outfit to garner attention from “that person”. With her poorly sliced apple, she returns to the dungeon. There she sees Servants gathering around Ritsuka and she seethes with anger.[8]

Ritsuka has been telling stories to the Servants. Salome comes to the cell door and demands to know what is going on. Rider explains he and the others were initially interrogating. Then, at Ritsuka’s suggestion, they all have a meal together. Salome is delighted that Ritsuka likes her poorly sliced apple.[8]

Afterward, the Servants leave to scout the Reinstatement Realm. “Seton” implies he knows something about the seven and tells Ritsuka to keep in shape just in case.[8]

Meanwhile, Holmes and Kadoc have finished climbing when they’re attacked by avian creatures. Kadoc stuns them with his magecraft followed by Astolfo using La Black Luna to drive them off.[8]

Escorting Holmes and Kadoc out of the mountains, Astolfo tells them they of the Righteous have been waiting for Chaldea’s arrival and to follow him. Unfortunately, the moment he takes off on Hippogriff, he has forgotten all about Holmes and Kadoc, forcing them to chase after him.[8]

Righteous Realm

Righteous Realm

Chasing after Astolfo, Holmes and Kadoc eventually arrive in the Righteous Realm's city. Holmes deduces Astolfo flies at breakneck speed when returning to the Righteous Realm to avoid exposing its location. Astolfo confirms the detective’s deduction and has him and Kadoc follow to meet Karl. Kadoc agrees with Goredolf to be proxy negotiator in place of Ritsuka. Goredolf tries to say something else, but the transmission is cut off.[8]

Upon entering the throne room, Astolfo reports to “Karl” he brought the “you-know-whos”. “Karl”, through his secretary, orders everyone to clear the room, including the royal guard.[8]

After the room is emptied, Kadoc confesses to Karl that he is only a substitute Master to Holmes, and confirms it was Ritsuka who was captured. He continues their first priority is to rescue Ritsuka and asks Karl to help with this for a reasonable price. However, they only know Ritsuka is being held in the Revenge Realm.[8]

“Karl” demands total submission to his realm in return for his cooperation, which Holmes and Kadoc agree to. His secretary then sends off Minerva, confusing Kadoc to how there is Olympus technology in the Singularity, to launch the rescue.[8]

The secretary Righteous Realm Servant has a number of spies in the Revenge Realm, using said realm as a relay to gain intelligence on the Reinstatement Realm. The price of that strategy, however, is that spies cannot be pulled out.[8]

As the operation will likely take two days, the secretary says she’ll arrange accommodations for Holmes and Kadoc. Astolfo then takes Holmes and Kadoc on a tour.[8]

“Karl” and his secretary worry Holmes will soon figure out their True Names. But regardless, “Karl” wants to repay Chaldea no matter what, even if it is a one-sided debt.[8]

The next day, Salome heads to Ritsuka’s cell with the meal she prepared. She is also suffering from a headache, but it subsides worth she convinces herself that Ritsuka cannot be Jokaanan.[8]

Salome presents Ritsuka with the rice balls she made, even though they’re made of wheat. Though Ritsuka pretends to enjoy them, “Seton” and even Salome herself both recognize they taste terrible. But seeing the Revenge Realm grows plenty of wheat, “Seton” suggests Salome try making Kykeon. Rider allows Ritsuka to accompany Salome to the kitchen.[8]

With Berserker’s help, Ritsuka and Salome successfully make Kykeon. Berserker leaves to give some to Kriemhild and Ritsuka and Salome return to the dungeon.[8]

There, they find Rider, Saber, Lancer, and Caster waiting for them. Rider reveals they are all spies for the Righteous Realm and they have been tasked with rescuing Ritsuka. They also inform Ritsuka that the other Chaldeans are waiting in the Righteous Realm.[8]

Salome lets them go, feeling Ritsuka isn’t anyone worth killing or torturing. Ritsuka leaves with Rider’s party after wolfing down the Kykeon. Salome wolfs down her Kykeon once they're gone.[8]

Saber gives Ritsuka a cloak to cover their face. Rider explains their cover story is that they’re going out to scout the Reinstatement Realm’s territory. Until they’re out, they’ll keep low and stay quiet. Berserker meanwhile will rampage in the castle to buy them time. Salome catches up to the group and after she joins them, they all head out.[8]

Unfortunately, Kriemhild kills Berserker while they were rampaging in her throne. Jue deduces the scouting party that captured Ritsuka is the same one escorting them out. He also reports Salome is with them. Kriemhild orders for three scout units to pursue, and calls on Hassan of the Hundred Faces and the Sharpshooter, both of whom will be under her direct supervision in this matter. She then has Jue accompany her. Jue destroys Caster’s familiar before leaving.[8]

Caster informs the others the connection with their familiar has been severed, and Berserker has been killed. Salome isn’t surprised their plan has been exposed, given Jue has been expanding his network through the entire realm with familiars or shikigami. As Caster isn’t refined enough Servant to detect all of them, Lancer suggests they just make a run for it, hoping the other Servants are still unaware. But then an announcement from Kriemhild orders the Servants of the 1st Scouting Unit, along with Ritsuka, to be killed. Breaking through the Servants coming after, the group nearly reaches the gate when Lancer is caught in a snare. They urge the others to go on without them; Archer stays behind with Lancer to buy time. A royal guard kills Archer, followed by Kriemhild killing Lancer.[8]

Once the group is far enough from the gate, Caster stays behind to turn the terrain into a swamp to slow down their pursuers. Unfortunately, Jue kills them before they can finish casting the spell. An Assassin reports “Seton” has escaped using an offensive Mystic Code he prepared beforehand. Now there’s mayhem caused by the loud explosions and lights, along with the Servants panicking from what seems to be an enemy assault. Jue leaves Kriemhild behind to investigate the matter.[8]

Hundred Faces catches up to the group, striking Rider with a poisoned dirk. He dodges Saber’s attack and attacks him with his other personas. But to his surprise, Saber kills his personas with his Noble Phantasm. Hundred Faces tells Salome to come back, but she refuses and kills him in battle.[8]

Continuing to escape on foot, the group soon rendezvouses with Assassin in a forest. But Assassin tells them to run, and he dies. Rider realizes it’s a trap and dodges an ambush thanks to Ritsuka’s warning, but as a consequence, Ritsuka is hit and left grievously injured. Salome kills the royal guards, calling Ritsuka her Jokanaan. Afterward, Rider, feeling he is about to disappear, urges Salome to continue escaping with Ritsuka to the Righteous Realm beyond the forest.[8]

Once they’re gone, Rider sacrifices himself in the name of the Human Order to launch his Noble Phantasm as a signal arrow for the Righteous to see.[8]

Delirium, however, overtakes Salome’s mind, and she demands from Ritsuka their head, now seeing them as Jokanaan. But when Ritsuka begs for their life, Salome realizes they can’t be Jokanaan as saints do not fear death. She apologizes for her behavior and carefully walks with Ritsuka to ease their pain. [8]

They’re confronted, however, by Kriemhild’s personal squadron. They are Servants who receive the queen’s power and gain powerful permanent blessings. Salome held that power but lost it. She has Ritsuka continue escaping on their own while she holds back Kriemhild’s personal squadron. Ritsuka returns, however, and tries supporting Salome with a Command Spell, but they faint granting one.[8]

Ritsuka dreams of a tavern where they’re confronted by Moriarty, who’s using the power of a Divine Spirit to peer into their dreams. Moriarty wants to make a deal with Ritsuka, though there will be no compromises because he is still an Apostle of the Alien World. He reveals vengeance lies at the Singularity’s core, saying its originator has every right to exact it.[8]

He demands Ritsuka give up their position, promising to spare their life, though he implies the others will die. Ritsuka refuses. Moriarty didn’t expect an immediate answer and implores them to give it them some thought, knowing it will be the “second betrayal of a lifetime”. He then returns Ritsuka to the waking world.[8]

Salome Last Moments

Salome's last moments

Ritsuka awakens to find themselves being carried by Salome, who presumably finished killing Kriemhild’s personal squadron. Still barely conscious, they then hear a gunshot ring out. The two near the border of the Righteous Realm, where they see Astolfo waving and calling out to them. Salome leaves Ritsuka to continue on their own, claiming she is returning to the Revenge Realm.[8]

After going their separate ways, it is revealed Salome’s Spirit Core was shattered by the earlier gunshot. She is soon shot again and disappears.[8]

A Righteous Realm Caster heals Ritsuka and afterward places them in a room to rest. Ritsuka soon wakes up and is reunited with Holmes and Kadoc. At Holmes’s request, Ritsuka explains what happened to them while they were separated. Kadoc explains their current situation in the realm. Afterward, he, Ritsuka, Holmes, Astolfo, and Roland go to meet with Karl.[8]

After the throne room is cleared, “Karl” and his secretary drop the charade and reveal themselves to be Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Holmes asks why Don Quixote was using Karl’s name and why Roland and Astolfo serve him, which Sancho promised to reveal when Ritsuka was up again.[8]

Sancho explains when she and Don Quixote were summoned to the Singularity, they learned many Servants were planning to rebel against the Proper History. The Counter Force summoned Servants to correct the Singularity, but outnumbered, they were constantly intercepted. Worse, some Servants were infected by the rebellious ideology and joined the other side. Don Quixote and Sancho then had Astolfo and Roland join them in establishing a third realm, so the Revenge and Reinstatement Realms do not become too powerful.[8]

Holmes deduces, though, that by inviting Chaldea, they have reached an impasse. Sancho confesses Karl’s name and the draw of two of the Twelve Paladins can only sustain things so much and estimates it’s only a matter of time before fear and doubt surfaces among their subordinates. Holmes deduces it’s because those subordinates are acting under the belief they’re rebelling against the Proper History.[8]

Sancho reveals the Servants embedded in the Revenge Realm were on the side of the Human Order, but most Servants consider Don Quixote’s circle to be rebels like they are. She agrees with Holmes that it’s unnatural for Servants, who still retain their reasoning, to rebel against the Human Order. She made subtle inquires and learned the rebelliousness is akin to following instinct. There are individual differences, and in the Revenge and Reinstatement Realms, those with weak instincts for rebellion are eliminated.[8]

Kadoc states once summoned, a Servant is influenced by the personality of their Master. It is only a minor change for Heroic Spirits, but changes made to their instinct show the extent that an evil entity has become the Master. Goredolf, therefore, wonders if Moriarty could be that Master.[8]

Idle Talk in the Dead of Night[]

Holmes disagrees Moriarty is a Master and concludes such a concept doesn’t in the Singularity Thus even if the Master is found and killed, the Servants will not be eliminated. Sancho is disappointed, as Chaldea was recruited for that very reason. But Holmes assures Chaldea can help the Righteous Realm defeat the Revenge and Reinstatement Realms, seize the Grails that maintain their realms, and collapse the Singularity.[9]

Seeing their options are limited for the moment, Holmes asks for a small elite team to make use of. Sancho agrees to assemble some Servants. Ritsuka, Holmes, and Kadoc then return to their quarters.[9]

Kadoc sets up a soundproofing Bounded Field so Chaldea can review their current situation without others listening in. Their conservation is interrupted, however, when two members of the Karl commandos, Xu Fu and Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, enter the room. [9]

Xu Fu explains their mission is to perform reconnaissance-in-force and secure an abandoned fort. She recommends everyone get an early rest tonight as they start tomorrow early.[9]

Later that night, Kadoc wakes Ritsuka up and has them accompany him outside. There he establishes a soundproof Bounded Field so he, Ritsuka, and Mash may privately discuss the validity of the Chaldean’s statement about there being a traitor in Chaldea.

Mash admits she had a candidate but found there was no evidence to support the Chaldean’s claims, nor did any of Chaldea’s staff have a motive to help in the bleaching of the Earth. The crime is already done, so there is no point in helping the organization trying to undo it. The same applies to the Servant, which leaves only the Masters.

Ritsuka isn’t even considered a suspect because at any point they could have ended everything by simply giving up.[9]

As she is an Atlas mage, Mash thought it was reasonably possible Sion’s goals weren’t aligned with Chaldea’s, which could become a motive for betrayal, although unlikely. But Sion proved she couldn’t be the traitor when she made her last stand against the Alien God when it destroyed the Wandering Sea, fully prepared to die. It was thanks to her that Chaldea survived that attack.[9]

Kadoc asserts he isn’t the traitor, which he admits is ironic coming from an ex-Crypter. He is also not willing to risk betrayal when he could die for it, something Mash agrees with. Kadoc then questions when, where was Holmes summoned and by whom.[9]

Mash assumed Holmes was a Stray Servant, considering Chaldea met him in the Atlas Institute. But Ritsuka reminds her Holmes himself confirmed he was one in the London. Kadoc thinks it’s perfectly reasonable for Holmes to be summoned in London, given his connections to the land, but questions why he would appear in Camelot and Shinjuku later on. Mash says Holmes claimed he forcibly extended his manifestation and performed a brute force rayshift. He couldn’t perform this feat more than twice, and doing it twice made him borderline unable to fight. But after Shinjuku, he officially became one of Ritsuka’s Servants, removing his debuffs at the cost of his ability to rayshift independently.[9]

Kadoc, unable to connect the dots, seals all their memories of the conversation. The conversation will remain deep in their consciousness, so Kadoc asks Ritsuka and Mash to keep observing and doubting Holmes to prove their trust in him.[9]

We Are the Charles Commandos![]

Early next morning, Ritsuka, Holmes, Kadoc, Xu Fu, and Diarmuid head out for their mission. While Xu Fu is doing some shopping, Ritsuka has a brief encounter with “Seton”, who is obscuring his face for reasons. Afterward, the heroes head for their destination, which is deep in the mountains.[10]

Kadoc soon gets tired from all the mountain climbing and requests they take a break. Diarmuid advises against though, as the area is full of Orochis, which the heroes promptly slay.[10]

The heroes eventually reach their destination, Xanten Tower, a watchtower located midway between the Revenge and Righteous Realm. Diarmuid explains their mission is to identify who comprises the small squadron deployed to the tower, then retreat. But if the situation calls for it, they have permission to eliminate the squadron. The squadron is comprised of ten to twenty Servants, though they are all Phantom-grade.[10]

After Servants leave on patrol, Holmes deduces the locations of the Assassins guarding the doors. Xu Fu uses her tao arts to undo their concealment, paralyze them, and set up soundproof Bounded Field so they can’t yell for her help.[10]

The heroes kill the Assassins and enter the tower. Inside, they learn it is possibly connected to the leyline. To confirm it, Ritsuka, Xu Fu, and Diarmuid head underground. Holmes and Kadoc, in the meantime, will go to the top of the tower.[10]

Underground, Xu Fu uses her tao arts to unveil and paralyze a Caster. After he is knocked out, Xu Fu explains there is a mechanism that draws magical energy from the leyline and sends it up to the top of the tower, though it hasn’t been activated yet. She suspects enough magical energy could draw out to nearly form a Grail. Mash calls Ritsuka, notifying them that Holmes wants them at the top of the tower as soon as possible.[10]

Top of Xanten Tower

At the top of the tower, Holmes, having heard about the underground mechanism from Mash, reveals the purpose of the tower was to destroy the Righteous Realm. It should work by syphoning magical energy from the leyline. convert it into physical form and subsequently fire it. The top of the tower was meant to be the pedestal of a turret, though no such weapon was found.[10]

Holmes surmises the magical energy siphoned was far too great, so they failed to produce a battery capable of withstanding it. He recommends either preventing the Revenge Servants from forging a new cannon, or, if they try anything, destroy the tower immediately. With the tower’s patrol returning, the group takes their leave.[10]

The heroes immediately begin their next mission to secure an abandoned fort. As walking there would take all day, Diarmuid says they’ll take a carriage from a nearby safe room and ride it to the fort.[10]

The safe rooms were established at Sancho’s directive, with four in the Righteous Realm, two in the Revenge Realm, and one in the Reinstatement Realm. All of them are perfectly disguised and have yet to be discovered. Holmes wonders to himself if they have another purpose.[10]

Safe room

Announcing he received the keys from Sancho earlier, Diarmuid reveals the safe rooms are sealed in such a way that they explode if the appropriate key isn’t used. It will also explode if the Bounded Field protecting the area detects a Servant trying to infiltrate via spirit form. Diarmuid then unlocks the safe room located under a broken carriage and the heroes take the golem horse-drawn carriage.[10]

Diarmuid drives the carriage close enough to the fort for the group to continue on foot. Xu Fu explains the Revenge Realm built the fort and used it as a beachhead for an invasion of the Righteous. They abandoned, however, after it received significant damage in a battle with the Righteous. The Righteous has been using it as a secret stockpile supplies all the while maintaining the appearance that it is still abandoned. But the fort attracts Demonic Beasts, so the heroes need to clear them out.[10]

Xu Fu sets up a Bounded Field to keep the Demonic Beasts from escaping. The heroes then slay them, though Diarmuid wasn't much help against the giant demon boar at the end. Afterward, they leave once Xu Fu has a Caster, who is part of the rearguard that just arrived, sign the transfer documents. Ritsuka, Holmes, and Kadoc decide they’ll ask Don Quixote and Sancho for assistance in rescuing Vlad.[10]

Don Quixote de la Mancha's Departure[]

In the Reinstatement Realm, following a report on Xanten Tower, Constantine orders Assassin to see if there are more similar towers in the vicinity of the Righteous Realm and Caster to look further into the tower.[11]

He and his strategists have supposed the Revenge Realm preparing for a full-scale invasion. The Righteous Realm is sure to interfere and it can be assumed the tower will be involved. Constantine then ends the war councils and requests everyone available to attend Johanna’s funerary services.[11]

Johanna finishes Mass and has Bradamante accompany her as everyone leaves the church. Outside, she asks Bradamante if she is fine with serving under the Reinstatement Realm instead of the Righteous Realm, since Karl was her king in her life.[11]

Bradmante answers she chose the Reinstatement Realm because she believed Constantine was the correct choice, though it caused some people to harbor doubts about her. Johanna reassures Bradamante that she trusts her word.[11]

Meanwhile, in the Revenge Realm, Jue and Kriemhild talk about how the Reinstatement Realm’s attention is now directed toward Chaldea. They also note the Reinstatement Realm has yet to figure out the tower’s true purpose, though it isn’t fully functional with their Servant yet.[11]

Kriemhild states with Chaldea having sided with the Righteous Realm, all that remains to win the war and destroy the Proper Human History. But Jue questions if she is fine with that as her wish may not come true. Kriemhild threatens to kill him next time. Jue leaves to begin the final adjustments.[11]

Alone, Kriemhild tells herself her wish is to be her husband’s nemesis. But her wish is difficult to grant because whatever the Realm, he will be summoned to rebel against Proper Human History, making him an ally. She hoped RItsuka would bring him with them, but that didn’t happen. Now she must rely on the thin hope he will be summoned on Proper Human History’s side, all the while she fulfills her duties to her Master.[11]

Moriarty appears and tells Kriemhild his objective for any of the three realms to claim all the Grails, not caring which one accomplishes it. He says there is only one who cannot be allowed to win, but he refuses to say more. He also refuses to divulge any information about the other realms when Kriemhild asks. Kriemhild demands Moriarty leave, so he does, disappointed she didn’t ask about the absence of a certain Servant.[11]

Returning to the Righteous Realm's throne room, Ritsuka’s party ask for Don Quixote and Sancho’s help in rescuing Vlad. Sancho says the Righteous Realm needs someone familiar with military affairs, so she agrees she and Don Quixote will rescue Vlad and heal him if possible. She confirms Holmes’s suspicions that she has a healing Noble Phantasm capable of returning Vlad to full strength, though she admits it is a gamble. Normally, it has a 30% chance of success, with a 50% chance of failure and doing nothing. There is also 20% chance of failure damaging the Spirit Origin.[11]

After Ritsuka agrees to her gamble, Sancho tells Don Quixote, whose mind seems preoccupied, that they’re setting out to destroy Vlad’s self-imposed confinement with their Noble Phantasm. Don Quixote thinks she is speaking of Valiente Asalto Dedicado a la Princesa until she tells him that is wrong, making him question why he has to come. Sancho only answers that it’s a secret. Ritsuka compares her to a certain little imp.[11]

Kadoc reminds himself he cannot dwell on the past and to focus on the present with an objective mindset. He notices Holmes is acting like nothing is wrong. But knowing of the Great Detective’s keen observation skills, he decides it’s best to not presume what Holmes is thinking when he suddenly sneezes. He feels as if ice is running up his back and wonders if it’s a Caster’s curse.

Ritsuka reconfirms their decision, so the herores get ready to set out. Holmes is concerned, though, about “Karl” vacating the throne. Rolands says he’ll substitute for Don Quixote. The heroes sneak out of town in disguise and head for the mountains.[11]

While fighting their way through the mountains, Don Quixote’s strength surprises Holmes, especially considering the stories of “Don Quixote” never depict him beyond the limits of humanity. Sancho reveals it is back-up from the Grail as Don Quixote is the ruler of the Righteous Realm. The heroes now understand Kriemhild and Constantine, both legends for their own reasons, will be very powerful with their realms’ Grails backing them.[11]

The heroes arrive in the destroyed town where Chaldea first experienced the conflicts of the realms and sees Vlad is still there. Kadoc questions why Vlad is still in the town since either Reinstatement or Revenge could pass through it.[11]

In answer, Holmes throws a stone near Vlad and shows Vlad’s Noble Phantasm is automatically activated whenever he detects movement near him. He suspects Vlad manipulated his psyche when driving his stakes into himself. The heroes then calm Vlad down through combat, allowing Sancho to activate Triste Suave Alonso Quijano safely.[11]

Upon its activation, the surrounding magical energy rapidly decreases, putting Vlad’s existence at risk. Holmes recalls Sancho called it a return to reality and deduces Vlad was sent to the rural reality of 17th-century Spain. Because Vlad never existed in 17th-century, Spain, his entire existence as a Servant is voided, but it also undoes Moriarty’s brainwashing. Overuse of the Noble Phantasm, however, will cause Don Quixote and Sancho to disappear, which they start to do, so Sancho quickly deactivates the Noble Phantasm. Now with Vlad cured, the heroes head back to Righteous Realm with him.[11]

Vlad III's Triumphant Return[]

On their way back, Sancho reveals Vlad cannot fight until the Singularity is corrected, presumably because of the Noble Phantasm. Also, because of their Noble Phantasm, she and Don Quixote will be incapacitated for some time and are now extremely weak.[12]

In town, Vlad determines the Righteous Realm's Servants are lacking in motivation, which, along with morale, will lower the longer the war drags on. He and the others then observe the combat drills, but Vlad refuses to give his thoughts until their audience with “Karl”.[12]

In the throne room, Vlad says with the Righteous Realm's current state of affairs, they will be decimated even in a scenario where either of the other Realms had their military strength substantially depleted after destroying the other. The Righteous Realm army lacks the unity and discipline, so to unify them, Vlad recommends for the Servants to do military exercises instead of the individual training they’ve been doing. He tells Sancho to announce that joint exercises for all Righteous Realm Servants will begin early tomorrow morning. Tomorrow’s drills require everyone to take part, including Ritsuka, except for Don Quixote.[12]

That night, unable to sleep, Ritsuka asks Don Quixote how he became king. Don Quixote claims it was pure luck that he became aware he was a Servant fighting for the Proper History. Fortunately, before word got out, Sancho kept Don Quixote quiet and feigned they were rebels as well.[12]

They went to the Revenge and Reinstatement Realms to gather information and learned both Realms affect the psyche. After deliberating on the matter, they decided to move to some place where the influence of the two Realms is less harmful. Other Servants joined them; Sancho realized there were other Servants on the side of Proper Human History and suggested making a place for them. The only thing Don Quixote contributed to this new realm beyond hunting a few Demonic Beasts was volunteering himself to be its ruler. It was also to keep him safe and off the front-lines.[12]

Early the next morning, Vlad establishes a scenario for the joint exercise: a large of Righteous Realm Servants, a larger force, will conduct a siege on Vlad’s forces, which are smaller. However, reinforcements for Vlad’s forces are expected to arrive in due time, so the Righteous Realm Servants must break through their defenses.[12]

Vlad orders his Casters to create a temporary fortress and once it’s complete, he enters the fort with his forces and shuts down the gate to prepare for the exercise.[12]

Three hours later, the exercise begins, in which the Righteous Realm Servants fail to break through the fort’s defenses. With that, Vlad takes command of the army.[12]

Assassination Plot[]

Returning to the throne room, Vlad recommends, based on the intel gathered by Sancho’s spies, that they attack the Revenge Realm forits duplicity. He is also concerned about Xanten Tower, confirming Holmes was correct in his suspicions it was a long-range artillery platform. But he fears work on the tower has already concluded and wonders if there is Servant with a cannon Noble Phantasm.[13]

He deduces Jue is the mastermind behind all the Revenge Realm’s underhanded tactics. However, they must not strike at Kriemhild because if they do, her Realm may collapse completely and give the Reinstatement Realm an opportunity to make its move. Vlad, therefore, recommends assassinating Jue with a small elite squad, though he suspects the Revenge Realm has countermeasures.[13]

As a distraction, Vlad wants the Righteous to attack with a large army, so the Revenge and Reinstatement Realms will focus their attention on the resulting chaos instead of the assassination attempt. For that, the Righteous Realm Servants need additional training. Vlad will be busy with that for half-day, but he can help plan the assassination at night. Sancho says she’ll take care of the planning.[13]

Holmes decides he and Ritsuka will take part in the mission, not wanting to leave his Master out of concern for potential moves by Moriarty. Sancho says an Assassin on the side of Proper Human History will join the mission. Roland and Astolfo decide to stay behind since infiltration isn’t their forte. Kadoc decides he’ll stay behind as well, believing he wouldn’t be of much use. Vlad tells Kadoc he has plenty of time to decide and orders the Assassin to be called in.[13]

Assassin introduces himself and is informed by Vlad that Ritsuka and Holmes will accompany him on this mission. He gives all three until the military exercises are complete to coordinate their individual roles.[13]

Meanwhile, in the Reinstatement Realm’s cathedral, Johanna fears her being an imaginary character strips her of her duty and right to pray. Bradamante laments that the modern era rejects Mystery and fantasy, with some saying myths and legends were added retroactively. But she never doubted who she was, nor the existence of Twelve Paladins existed or her love for Ruggiero. She believes the same should apply to Johanna.[13]

Johanna replies it doesn’t apply to her, because her entire existence was refuted by knowledge. She believes it was right to do, but she still wants to vent her frustrations on those popel. Bradamante states the Reinstatement Realm does not approve of it. [13]

In their room, Ritsuka, Holmes, and Assassin agree an ambush is the best course of action. Holmes has also brought in Xu Fu for her expertise since both she and Jue are practitioners of the tao arts.[13]

According to the scouts following Jue, he typically stays in the Revenge Realm’s capital and, occasionally, moves to Fort Azagouc. Because of his superior adaptability, it is ill-advised to try to assassinate Jue while he’s in the capital. There is also strong potential for escape if they attack Jue on his way to Fort Azagouc. The scouts therefore recommend infiltrating the fort and carry out the assassination, though the chance of success is low.[13]

Asked about the fort’s defenses, Xu Fu looks over the intel and concludes the fort was built according to the principles of Qimen Dunjia, meaning it is fortified with Jue’s tao arts. Holmes says infiltrating the fort will be a simple matter if Xu Fu can remove its protective tao arts. Xu Fu shows she is making talismans to counter the fort’s tao arts, but after she’s done, she wants the others to learn about the tao arts as much as possible.[13]

Holmes says they first need to train as a team so they are coordinated. They will need to train in tao countermeasures, all the while helping Xu Fu with Item Construction. Xu Fu asks the others to bring her materials for crafting talismans: the paper from Forbidden Pages and one other material.[13]

Later, in the mountains, the group fill buckets with the blood of the giant chickens they slew. Holmes deduces Xu Fu is going to use the blood to write the talismans. Xu Fu confirms his deductions, though she has her doubts about their effectiveness against Jue’s fort. They then return to town to train and study. Later, in the throne room, Vlad orders Astolfo to escort the assassination team to the Revenge Realm when it’s time for the mission.[13]

Xu Fu confirms his deductions, though she has her doubts about their effectiveness against Jue’s fort. They then return to town to train and study. [13]

Later, in the throne room, Goredolf shares Don Quixote’s concerns about sending Ritsuka into danger and regrets Ritsuka never chooses the safer option of supporting their Servants from behind. Kadoc says he is still a Master, though he doesn’t have permission to summon Servants thanks to being a onetime traitor to Proper Human History. He doesn’t mind this as he’d rather not be a Servant’s partner. Ritsuka reaffirms that they’re going.[13]

Vlad orders Astolfo to escort the assassination team to the Revenge Realm when it’s time for the mission. Sancho says a party shall be thrown in their honor for when they return.[13]

On the day of the mission, Ritsuka wakes up before sunrise and converses with “Seton” outside until the sun rises. After “Seton” is gone, Da Vinci confirms he wasn’t lying about being weak as his Spirit Origin is on the scale of an average Phantom. She decides to trust Ritsuka’s judgement that “Seton” isn’t hostile, though she wonders why he isn’t actively helping. Ritsuka then leaves for the Realm’s border with the others.[13]

On their way there, Xu Fu reminds the others it is essential they infiltrate the fortress from a cardinal direction. She explains Qimen Dunjia is extremely complicated but follows a pre-established procedure where not a single step can be skipped. As such, gaining entry into Fort Azagouc is complex and convulted. But also thanks to Qimen Dunjia, Xu Fu suspects there will not be many guards inside since their actions inside have a chance of disturbing the fort’s directionality.[13]

The heroes have reason to believe, though, that Jue is holding forces in there today. Xu Fu suspects they are familiars though their actions will be severely restricted to avoid interfering with the spell. For that reason, Xu Fu is essential to the plan, along with Assassin whose Noble Phantasm is assumed to be capable of defeating Jue.[13]

Eventually, the heroes reach the border of the Revenge Realm. With his job done, Astolfo returns to the capital on Hippogriff.[13]

The Plot and the Aftermath[]

Led by Vlad, the Righteous Realm Army march toward the Revenge Realm with a measly force of 5000, which is the largest force the Righteous Realm can currently muster. For such a small number, Kriemhild does not deploy her full army.[14]

She notes this is the first move the Righteous Realm has made, though, and mentions the defense stationed at the Reinstatement Realm is at a minimum. She therefore decides to join the field and orders Jue to be contacted immediately. A Caster apologizes they can’t find Jue anywhere.[14]

Kriemhild orders 10,000 sent for now to intercept the Righteous Realm Army immediately. She sighs in frustration that Jue picked a worse to be absent.[14]

Jue, meanwhile, is in Fort Azagouc, where he prepares for his inevitable rebellion against Kriemhild. Though he fully recognizes her abilities as a leader, he does not know long she’ll remain mentally stable, being that she is a Berserker. He has a secret in the fort, which, depending on how it’s used, can either give him the advantage over her or doom himself and the Revenge Realm. But he cannot trust the project to any of his subordinates and must work on it alone.[14]

Following the directions of Xu Fu’s Qimen Dunjia plate, the heroes infiltrate Fort Azagouc. Once inside, though, Xu Fu notices something and stops the others from going forward, warning that way leads through the door of death. There are also three Servants to the right. Left with no other choice, the heroes go to the right and kill the Servants, who couldn’t warn the rest of the fort thanks to Xu Fu’s soundproofing. Afterward, they head into the basement where Jue should be, according to Holmes’s deductions. His deductions prove true and he deduces Jue cannot call his allies to him because it would be a problem for him if they were to discover what hides in the fortress. In response, Jue has all of his allies in the fort paralyzed and calls upon his Yellow Turban automatons to attack the heroes.[14]

During the battle, Holmes notes Jue’s combat performance is comparable to a Top Servant and realizes something sets him apart from the others. He deduces what that is and tells Jue something. Assassin takes advantage of Jue’s shock at Holmes’s words and kills him.[14]

After Jue fades into sand, Ritsuka asks Holmes what he said to him. Holmes says it was his undoing, which was the question of whether or not he was truly himself. The fort then starts to shake.[14]

Xu Fu warns the fort is about to collapse, having been designed by Jue to self-destruct if he dies prematurely. Following the principles of Qimen Dunjia, the heroes safely escape and head back to the Righteous Realm.[14]

On their way back, Holmes ponders why Moriarty hasn’t shown himself again. He aslo wonders if the role of Apostle of the Alien World actually exists. He tries to deduce the meaning of this Singularity, but uncertainty keeps his mind running in circles.[14]

The heroes return to see that the Righteous Realm Army has also returned from a successful battle. After reporting their success to Don Quixote, the group return to their lodgings with rewards: materials to strengthen their Spirit Origins. Assassin then goes off to train while Xu Fu takes a break in her spirit form. Afterward, Sancho brings Ritsuka and Holmes to the throne room to celebrate their safe return like she promised earlier.[14]

Later that night, following the banquet, Ritsuka encounters Moriarty again in a dream, but finds they cannot speak. Moriarty makes his disdain for Chaldea know and seriously doubts Ritsuka can handle the full force of their sins. But seeing that Ritsuka will likely forget the dream, he finds this conversation meaningless , especially since no one can overturn fate. The dream then ends with declaring he will destroy the Righteous Realm along with Holmes.

Ritsuka wakes up only remembering they had a strange dream. They then have a private celebration set up by Sancho with Holmes, Xu Fu, and Assassin. During this time Holmes assures Xu Fu that Jue had utterly disappeared, but he warns of the possibility of him resurrecting or there being another him. He recounts the deduction he made about Jue they met in Fort Azagouc, noting how vague his self-awareness was, and suspects he isn’t the only fake Jue with abnormal strength.[14]

The conversation moves on to the subject of the other Realms. Holmes suspects the Constantine rebels against Proper Human History to restore Johanna, whose existence was forbidden. He doesn’t understand the why, though, Assassin suspects it is related to the bonds between a man and woman.[14]

All-Out War - Reinstatement Realm (First Half)[]

In Kriemhild’s throne room, Jue reveals he is alive after an Assassin reported on his demise. Kriemhild doesn’t care if it was a spell to create an alter ego or a Noble Phantasm, it only matters that Jue still serves her realm. The drawback, though, is that memories aren’t transferred, so Kriemhild hands Jue a note addressed to himself. The conversation then changes to how the Reinstatement Realm is poised to invade the Righteous Realm.[15]

Meanwhile, in the Reinstatement Realm, Johanna reconfirms to Constantine that the “revelation” she received said if they will be victorious if they invade the Righteous Realm. Constantine asks Bradamante for her thoughts.[15]

Bradamante believes in Johanna’s “revelation”, feeling the Karl who rules the Righteous Realm is an impostor or his powers blocked. She bases this on the fact that he wasn’t present for when the Righteous Realm Army moved against the Revenge Realm, knowing the real Karl isn’t that cautious. She also doesn’t consider the fact that Roland and Astolfo serve this Karl to be an indication of his validity, because the twelve Paladins would serve a false lord to serve a just cause and the real Karl would permit an impostor if their actions are chivalrous.[15]

After hearing her thoughts, Constantine, knowing that Chaldea hides in the Righteous Realm thanks to Moriarty’s information and the Revenge Realm should be incapable of mobilizing, orders Bradamante to assemble the commanders for a decisive invasion of the Righteous Realm. He knows it is a gamble but there is no better other time than now with the Revenge Realm having lost Jue and the Righteous Realm having lost a few in battle. So before they can gain further momentum, the Righteous Realm must be crushed.[15]

Johanna requests she come along, shocking both Constantine and Bradamante. She doesn’t want to wait behind for the outcome. Constantine agrees to her request but tells her to stick to logistical support. He declares this upcoming battle will be the first major battle since the Realms were first established.[15]

In the Righteous Realm, Don Quixote’s inner circle gathers in the throne room to discuss the Reinstatement Realm’s declaration of war and request for an audience with Karl; It was delivered to Sancho after several skirmishes with the Reinstatement Realm. Vlad says they cannot ignore the declaration, so their next confrontation with the Reinstatement Realm will be total war. However, they must leave their highly defensible realm, as the declaration even names the battlefield itself.[15]

Sancho recommends they negotiate for a more advantageous battlefield. Holmes agrees, saying they don’t want to pit their forces against the Reinstatement Realm’s on an open plain.[15]

Vlad notes how the declaration is written in a way to force them into battle by bruising the pride of those under Karl’s command. Astolfo recalls there have been rumors for a while that Karl is an impostor. Sancho has already sent Assassins to quell them, but she laments rumors spread like wildfire, especially if they’re not unfounded. Holmes suspects it is the Reinstatement Realm’s doing.[15]

The conversation then moves to who will be the Karl substitute, since they cannot let Don Quixote be assassinated and he refuses to go on the frontlines. Vlad, Roland, and Astolfo cannot do it, as they are all recognizable. Holmes is confident that his Noble Phantasm can disguise him as Karl, but he is uncertain if he could demonstrate Karl’s powers when necessary.[15]

He suggests to Ritsuka that they be Karl. Kadoc has his doubts, but Holmes reminds him that Ritsuka can instantly summon Servants to protect them and their track record of conquering numerous Singularities and Lostbelts. Goredolf worries about Ritsuka’s protection, however, to which Sancho recommends Chaldea at least flee.[15]

Holmes states that would only worsen the situation as the Singularity’s threat is on par with the Seven Singularities, the Lostbelts, or even the exceptional Heian-kyo and Tunguska Singularities. Ritsuka therefore has no choice but to assume the guise of Karl.

Sancho tells Ritsuka that she’ll get their regal attire ready and that Don Quixote will be their royal guard. She says they’ll be able to change their voice, so it will be fine as long as their body language matches that of Karl behind the veil.[15]

Vlad decides he and Roland will devise countermeasures against the Reinstatement Realm. He wants Astolfo and Don Quixote to stay by Ritsuka’s side, though he permits them to join the battlefield if the need arises. As for negotiations with the Reinstatement Realm, he shall leave it to Holmes and Sancho, saying they must avoid the open plain that the Reinstatement Realm designated within their borders.

Holmes suspects the Reinstatement Realm wants a battlefield in the vicinity of the Reinstatement-Righteous border and one that’s slightly advantageous to them while slightly disadvantageous to the enemy. Following these criteria, Holmes deduces it is Ari Plain. Sancho says they’ll find a compromise that will get the Righteous Realm a more advantageous battlefield. Vlad decides he’ll choose a few locations.[15]

Sirmium

The newly fortified city of Sirmium

Acting as envoy, Vlad visits the Reinstatement Realm to speak with Constantine at the latter’s invitation. The Reinstatement Realm’s tacticians were surprised the Righteous Realm chose Sirmium to be the designated battlefield as they thought the Righteous Realm would want to fight within their home territory. If they did it would give credence to the rumors that the Karl in Righteous Realm is an impostor. But instead, the Righteous chose a location within the Reinstatement Realm’s location. Sirmium had been abandoned because of its location on the better between Realms. Constantine sent scouts there as soon as it proposed as the new battlefield. But when they got there, the supposedly abandoned city had already been turned into a fortress. Constantine ordered checks on the other former cities on the border. His scouts found indications the abandoned cities were fortified and a terrifying number of spies stationed in the forts along the border. With his other strategies nonviable, Constantine accepts Sirmium as the place where his Realm and the Righteous Realm will do battle.[15]

Permitted by Goredolf, Kadoc goes to investigate the ruins of Fort Azagouc for what Jue was protecting there. Mash expresses concern for his safety, surprising Kadoc with how much she sounds like an actual person. He wonders if she was always like that or if it was thanks to Ritsuka. Meanwhile, he loathes himself for having not changed at all. Yet despite this, he will not readily accept death like he promised.[15]

Meanwhile, in Sirmium, Ritsuka receives their regal attire from Sancho. Don Quixote also got a new set of armor to match his role as royal guard. Vlad then enters the room, followed by Roland, who reports the troops all in formation. Since Sirmium will be the site of their decisive battle with the Reinstatement Realm, Vlad tells Ritsuka to go out without their costume and get a lay of the land. He orders Roland to escort them.[15]

Ritsuka meets “Seton”, the sight of whom causes Roland to retreat. He tells Ritsuka to tell Vlad and Holmes that to be wary of Johanna joining the battle, as her presence will boost Reinstatement Realm’s morale. He then leaves, so Roland comes back. Roland tells Ritsuka that his gut is telling him they’re better off staying far away from “Seton”. He and Ritsuka then return to touring Sirmium.[15]

Ritsuka soon returns from touring Sirmium and relays to Holmes what “Seton” told them. Holmes surmises from Johanna’s pain, principles, and ideals, and the importance of the coming battle, that it was inevitable she would eventually intervene with the army directly. He suspects she is doing it out of responsibility as she is not a rebel against the Human Order but an ordinary Servant.[15]

Johanna, meanwhile, admonishes herself for venting her frustrations on the wrong people. Then taking Constantine's hand, she heads out to wage war, accepting that she will be judged for it.[15]

Later, inside the Righteous Realm's pavilion, Astolfo reports Constantine’s army numbers 8000, with the emperor himself in the vanguard. Like Holmes expected, Constantine wishes to engage Karl in a war of words. Holmes decides they’ll make use of Astolfo’s magical horn after confirming it can be used as a normal horn, and orders the Casters to use voice amplifying magecraft. He himself will provide the words for Ritsuka to speak with as Karl, telling them it’s vital they not go silent or stutter and to present themselves as confident and dignified.[15]

Constantine calls out to Karl, requesting an audience with the emperor of the Righteous Realm. Ritsuka, speaking as Karl, refuses and criticizes Constantine for needing to see “him" for his own peace of mind when the premise of his invasion is that "he" is an impostor. Constantine had spread the rumor among his troops, but “Karl” proclaims the signal that “he” is the true king shall be their downfall and asks Constantine if he’s willing to abandon himself to his instincts.[15]

As convinced he is that Karl is an impostor, Constantine understands he can’t risk everything in the search for proof. Therefore, the battlefield is where he will discern Karl’s true identity and leaves after declaring so.[15]

Holmes, using scrying magecraft provided by the Casters, deduces from the movements of Constantine’s troops that Constantine will split them into groups of 1500 to attack the east and west. His deduction proves true, so Vlad orders Xu Fu and Diarmuid’s unit in the eastern forest to activate the spell when half the enemy troops enter the area or when they react. He orders Astolfo and Roland on the west side to simply slay the enemy, telling them they aren’t allowed to die.[15]

That night, a unit of Constantine’s troops try to proceed through the forest, despite knowing it’s trap because they know they outnumber the Righteous Realm Servants waiting in ambush. Unfortunately for them, Xu Fu traps their entire unit in her version of Stone Sentinel Maze, splitting them into fives and allowing the rest of the forest unit to wipe themout with ease.[15]

Meanwhile, though, the Righteous Realm Servants on the west side are having trouble fending off Constantine’s troop attacking the west gate. Outnumbered, they eventually receive reinforcements from Vlad in the form of Ritsuka who uses their summoned Servants to help fend off the enemy and defend the west gate. After a while the Reinstatement forces retreat, ending the first battle in victory for the Righteous Realm.[15]

All-Out War - Reinstatement Realm (Second Half)[]

With the retreat complete, Constantine demands a report from Saber and Lancer.[16]

Saber reports there is a Bounded Field in the eastern forest oriental designed. The Casters fully analyzed moments ago and should breach it within the day.[16]

Lancer reports the Righteous Realm Servants holding out at the west gate are giving them trouble, particularly the two paladins and Ritsuka, thanks to their summoning.[16]

Constantine decides he will deal with the west gate. As for the eastern forest, he orders the enemy unit there to be crushed, believing it will be simple now that the spell has been fully analyzed. Afterward, the middle guard will assault the north game——the main gate. Constantine assures there are no traps, suspecting the Righteous Realm lacked the time to set them up.[16]

His reason for saying that is that spies were confirmed to be in cities other than Sirmium. It was always possible a different abandoned city would be chosen during negotiations, but Sirmium ultimately chosen since the Reinstatement Realm holds time and honor in the highest regard. For the Righteous Realm, though, it was risky as Constantine surmises they lacked the resources to fortify more than one city.[16]

Returning to the primary subject, Constantine explains they will assault Sirmium from the east, west, and north. For the east gate he leaves to “her” trusting she will burn it down. For the north gate, he permits Johanna to lead the assault after Bradamante assures him she will keep her safe. Meanwhile, he will assault the west gate.[16]

Bradamante disagrees they should wait a day to fully prepare, believing they should re-engage the enemy every couple of hours. Constantine agrees with her. He understands everyone is tired, but suspects the Righteous Realm is even more so. Everyone then makes ready to begin their assaults in two hours.[16]

Ritsuka tries to get some rest when Holmes tells them there is an emergency.[16]

Inside the pavilion, Vlad warns the Reinstatement Realm will assault from the east, west, and north. He and Holmes had suspected this would happen, given how quickly they retreated. They also agree Constantine assumed there would be a series of battles while his soldiers uninformed and tried to take the fort with all their might. Regardless, Constantine’s soldiers have enough energy reserved to stage another assault, which shows their proficiency and morale are in another league.[16]

Suddenly, an Assassin reports the Reinstatement Realm’s middle guard has begun their march on the north gate. Vlad immediately orders the oriental warriors to the north gate and warns not to allow anyone of Johanna’s faith onto the front lines.[16]

Holmes asserts that despite her existence being denied, she is still the pope, so her Servant powers should be tremendous. He reassures Vlad that while Sir Arthur Conan Doyle may have trouble, he himself should be fine.[16]

Vlad dispatches him to the north gate, promising to send as much of their elite force there as he can. He suspects that the east and wests will have a change in tactics, though, compared to the first battle.[16]

Sherlock finds odd that the Revenge Realm thrives despite the loss of Jue. Meanwhile, this invasion seems to be the full might of the Reinstatement Realm. He finds it unlikely they have an arrangement with the Revenge Realm like Sancho wonders, but he cannot discount the possibility.[16]

After Vlad gives a rousing speech to the troops, Holmes decides he will take the north. Vlad orders Don Quixote, Astolfo, Roland, and Diarmuid to the west gate. He will also dispatch the elite forces. Lastly, he leaves the east gate to Ritsuka. He surmises the enemy found a way to bypass Xu Fu’s Bounded Field, so he tells Ritsuka to close the gate and follow the rule of siege warfare to buy time.[16]

Later, Assassin reports to Ritsuka that Xu Fu left to prove her Stone Sentinel Maze wasn’t dismantled so quickly, but she hasn’t come back.[16]

Ritsuka finds her in the forest distraught that her spell was dismantled. Suddenly, the forest set ablaze. Xu Fu notices the enemy is attacking as if to pass from the life door to the scenery. Declaring there is strength in numbers, Kiyohime appears and attacks Ritsuka and Xu Fu.[16]

Seeing they’re at a disadvantage, Ritsuka recommends retreating back to the gate. Kiyohime praises Xu Fu’s Qimen Dunjia but says it is no match for the collective analysis of 100 Casters. She then requests Ritsuka surrender without issue, but Ritsuka refuses to be a captive again. Xu Fu throws a smoke bomb at Kiyohime and falls back to the gate with Ritsuka.[16]

Meanwhile, the Archers defending the north gate find their shots are avoiding Johanna. Johanna explains though she is a fraud, she is still a bearer of miracles. She then says “open the gate” and the gate opens by itself. Bradamante orders all troops to charge in. Unfortunately for the Servants at the north gate, there will be no reinforcements as there is barely anyone left at the east and the west.[16]

At the west gate, Vlad orders Astolfo to fall back and Roland to lead his men out. They are having troubling breaching the walls of Constantine’s Noble Phantasm . Vlad orders Diarmuid to lead his men and whittle down Constantine’s forces.[16]

Holmes personally reports to Vlad that the north gate has opened, but he blocked the gateway with some rubble to buy some time. He also recommends shifting focus to the west gate when Don Quixote reports the west gate is being overrun. Vlad orders a retreat, having all strategies and spells available to them.[16]

Don Quixote decides he will serve as the rearguard, entrusting the Righteous Realm to Vlad. Sancho, however, refuses to let any harm to her lord. Ritsuka then reports on the current situation at the east gate.[16]

A while ago, Kiyohime had destroyed the east gate and ordered an Assassin to send word to Constantine. Assassin gave her a directive from the emperor to commence the pincer attack now that the west gate has fallen. But Ritsuka claimed the west gate hadn’t fallen yet, leading Kiyohime to question if she had been lied to. She thought the Reinstatement Realm was free of lies and deception, but learning that wasn’t true, she abandoned it. She considered defecting the Righteous Realm until Ritsuka confessed they have lied. Thus, with no realm to call home, Kiyohime left, leaving her former men to assault the east gate.[16]

Ritsuka’s unit tried to defend the gate, but found themselves being overrun. So they retreated and destroyed the ramparts to buy some time as instructed.[16]

In the present, Ritsuka concludes their report stating that the east gate has fallen. Vlad realizes retreat is the only option and orders word of it to be sent to every commander.

Holmes tries to warn Vlad about Sancho, but it is too late as Sancho binds Vlad. In order to protect Don Quixote, she has decided they will surrender to the Reinstatement Realm and give Vlad as an offering. While it was never an option with Kriemhild, Sancho hopes a plea of mercy will work on Constantine. Her only concern has ever been Don Quixote’s safety and wellbeing, which is how Holmes deduced her intentions.[16]

Vlad implores Holmes to rendezvous with Ritsuka and fulfill his duty. Holmes agrees and leaves. Afterward, Vlad agrees to be Sancho’s offering to Constantine, believing someone should take the fall, on the condition that Ritsuka isn’t harmed.[16]

The King and His Brave Knights[]

Sancho recalls how she convinced Don Quixote to flee from the Atlantic Lostbelt using their second Noble Phantasm after seeing how terrified he became. However, they ended up in the Singularity right after their escape.[17]

They eventually heard Chaldea was victorious in that Lostbelt. Sancho felt their presence there wouldn’t have changed anything, but Don Quixote was ashamed of his cowaradice. Sancho wanted him to live as a person and to make it come true she would go against even his wishes.[17]

Roland and Astolfo convince Diarmuid to retreat with everyone else while they stay behind. After he leaves, though, they notice Sancho getting ready to hand over Vlad.[17]

Sancho negotiates with Constantine, offering him Vlad in exchange for sparing hers and Don Quixote’s life. Constantine was ready to accept her terms when Don Quixote suddenly confesses he named himself Karl and claimed to have inherited his will. He further reveals he is a Servant from Proper Human History and challenges Constantine to a duel. Constantine accepts and the two begin their duel.[17]

Meanwhile, Holmes catches Ritsuka up with the Sancho situation. He finds Sancho’s betrayal couldn’t be more badly timed because now the Righteous Realm will now cease to function as a collective. He and Ritsuka then get ready to retreat with Xu Fu, promising to tell her the truth as they do, when Jingle makes an emergency transmission to warn them of incoming enemy forces. Holmes explains the situation to Xu Fu as they fight off the enemy.[17]

After the enemy is defeated, Xu Fu reveals she is far less influenced by the Master to rebel against the Proper Human History. She is the exception to the rule, though, so she advises the Chaldeans not to share their secret. But then Goredolf informs the heroes about what Don Quixote has done.[17]

Don Quixote is being overwhelmed by Constantine, yet he refuses to give up. He recalls the joy he felt at being able to fight alongside so many great heroes, the despair at seeing the gods kill those heroes, and how Sancho convinced him to flee. Now he understands he was fleeing from reality and realizes being a virtuous person is what every human must strive for. Reinvigorating himself, Don Quixote continues his duel with Constantine.[17]

Joyeuse Ordre vs Theodosios Constantinos

Charlemagne's Joyeuse Ordre clashing with Constantine XI's Theodosios Constantinos

Unfortunately, Constantine deals Don Quixote another major blow and moves to finish him off. But Constantine’s decisive strike is suddenly blocked, and the area is filled with light. Impressed by Don Quixote’s bravery, “Seton” has come to his rescue and reveals himself to be Charlemagne. He then unleashes his Noble Phantasm, Joyeuse Ordre, on Constantine, who tries to block it with his own.[17]

Johanna implores Constantine to fall back, as they are already victorious. He reluctantly agrees to do so when Ritsuka and the others arrive. Charlemagne encourages Bradamante to follow the path she believes as she departs with the Reinstatement Realm forces.[17]

Charlemagne reveals he came to the Singularity as Karl’s proxy. Holmes deduces Charlemagne/Karl’s Spirit Origin incorporates both sides of him, with Charlemagne being the fantasy while Karl is the reality.[17]

Charlemagne admits he was once in a mortal struggle with Karl, but they left on good terms. Now Karl has allowed a part of him (Charlemagne) to manifest and help resolve the Singularity. But Charlemagne wasn’t summoned by the Grail, rather by a chain summoning using the Paladins as a basis.[17]

It was an impossible summon, though, and without a Master, his Spirit Origin was distorted. His safety mode has kept in relatively good condition, but he can only go full power maybe two more times. In addition, he will disappear in 48 hours.[17]

Sancho apologizes for the trouble she has caused. Vlad finds it best they all forget it ever happened.[17]

Charlemagne notes the Righteous Realm's army is now in tatters. He recounts some didn’t believe him when he appealed to them while others were hostile to him because he is a Proper Human History Servant. At best, they will have 500 left.[17]

After Sancho is forgiven, Charlemagne recommends rallying the remaining Servants. As they might turn hostile, he suggests reminding them they will all die if there is no Proper Human History. He then answers Holmes’s question about why the Servants rebel by saying they all feel unbearable fury and that the Revenge Realm is the faction most in tune with the Master’s will.[17]

The Laughing Emperor[]

On top of Xanten Tower, Kriemhild asks Jue if he knows anything about their Master. Jue only answers that he supposes they are a “representative of humanity”.[18]

Moving on from that subject, Kriemhild states it is the day of the decisive battle and recounts the Reinstatement Realm’s latest action. She suspects Constantine and Johanna are both exhausted from the expedition and heavily implies one of them is a target for attack. Jue warns one may shield the other to ensure their survival.[18]

He then orders the activation of the extreme bombardment-type puppet bowman——Archer. Its target is the Reinstatement Realm forces. Jue activates his puppet soldiers to halt the Reinstatement Realm’s march. In addition, he has the deceiving magical energy wave activated. Archer’s Noble Phantasm then commences activation.[18]

Moonlight Artillery - Single Shot

Minamoto-no-Tametomo fires his Noble Phantasm.

Archer Minamoto-no-Tametomo activates and fires his Noble Phantasm——Instant Sinking Moonbow. Its target, as designated by Kriemhild, is Johanna.[18]

Meanwhile, Constantine ponders if they focus on the Revenge Realm with Jue assassinated and the Righteous Realm unlikely to recover. But then Johanna informed him of her deadly premonition. Immediately, the Reinstatement Realm forces go on the alert and quickly find themselves surrounded by Jue’s puppet soldiers, indicating Jue still lives. The sky also suddenly turns red, meaning the Revenge Realm has encroached even further.[18]

Johanna senses an incoming Noble Phantasm and tells Constantine to block it. Constantine immediately activates his Noble Phantasm to do so. But Johanna quickly realizes she is the target and that the fortress walls will not protect a fictional character like herself. Constantine reached the same conclusion and shielded her, as Kriemhild expected.[18]

Constantine recalls the day he met Johanna, a Servant of the history he was summoned to rebel against. To his surprise, Johanna knew she was a fantasy and listened to her tirade about Proper Human History rejecting her existence. Johanna expected them to fight afterward, but Constantine decided against it.[18]

He told her that as he was incompatible with Kriemhild, who was summoned, he wanted to establish his own faction. He swore to restore Johanna as someone who truly existed, unable to forgive the fact her existence was rejected. Johanna agreed to join Constantine.[18]

Constantine wakes up back in his throne room, going under treatment. It is a futile effort, however, as his Spirit Core has been destroyed.[18]

With the Caster's help, he informs his subjects of his condition. As the Reinstatement Realm will soon be at an end, he gives two options: join the Revenge Realm or join the Righteous Realm. He understands they may reject the former, being that the Revenge Realm was their sworn enemy, but he doesn’t recommend the latter, as the Righteous Realm is allied with Proper Human History.[18]

He confesses that Johanna is a Servant from Proper Human History and that their rebellion was all for her restoration. He will understand if those angry at his lies were to join the Revenge Realm. However, he will not allow them to stay in the Reinstatement Realm as he wants it to perish with him.[18]

Seeing the Revenge Realm is already encroaching on his realm, Constantine tells Johanna to go to the Righteous Realm. Johanna refuses, so Constantine has Bradamante take her there. He and Bradamante have both accepted the contradiction that they must rely on Proper Human History now. For Bradamante, it was after the real Charlemagne appeared.[18]

Bradamante picks up Johanna, who, on the verge of tears, refuses to let this be goodbye. But she accepts it when Constantine tells her it’s been fun. After Johanna and Bradamante leave, the Servants join Constantine in defending their realm against the Revenge Realm’s invasion.[18]

As he fights, Constantine realizes Johanna will disappear if the Singularity does. His memories of her and feelings for her will disappear as well, meaning no other version of him will ever harbor feelings for Johanna. He is perfectly fine with that.[18]

Revenge conquers Reinstatement

Revenge Realm conquers the Reinstatement Realm

In the end, Constantine perishes alongside the 2,238 Servants who remained of the Reinstatement Realm. But there were 542 Servants who went to defect to the Righteous Realm, all of whom empathized with Johanna. They go there to ask Ritsuka, a human from Proper Human History, their thoughts on Johanna, seeing it as their duty as survivors.[18]

In a forest in the Revenge Realm, Kadoc encounters Moriarty. Kadoc tells Mash to activate his collar so Moriarty cannot extract any information from him. Mash vehemently refuses, however.[18]

Moriarty assures Kadoc he has no intention of harming him or extracting information from him. He already knew everything Kadoc knew the moment he became an Apostle of the Alien World. But right now, he is in a position where he needs to fear Kadoc extracting information from him.[18]

He knows Kadoc came to the realm because he was curious about Fort Azagouc. It is the same for him, and so he proposes they work together. Kadoc immediately accepts, wanting to get information from Moriarty if possible. Mash agrees to keep this a secret from the others.[18]

Moriarty tells Kadoc that Jue was fixated on his fort’s defense to the point he created an alter ego of himself and tricked it into believing it was the real Jue. He then shows the area is still being guarded. He suspects the fort will be repaired, so he recommends stopping it. For this occasion, he will be Kadoc’s Servant. Kadoc refuses, for he will only ever have one Servant. He will simply support Moriarty as a mage.[18]

After Moriarty kills the Servants, he and Kadoc come to the ruins of Fort Azagouc. Inside, they find what Jue was keeping secret from even Kriemhild: Siegfried. With a snap of his fingers, Moriarty frees Siegfried.[18]

Siegfried confirms he harbors no feelings of rebellion toward Proper Human History. Kadoc warns him to keep his distance from Moriarty as he can compel Servants to rebel. Moriarty says he will not use that power, though, because it wasn’t accounted for in his calculations.[18]

Exiting the ruins, Siegfried confirms he knows Kriemhild leads the Revenge Realm and assures he can fight his wife.[18]

Meanwhile, in her throne room, Kriemhild receives Constantine’s Holy Grail, strengthening her Spirit Origin. Her soldiers cheer that the Righteous Realm will fall next and for the unification of the three realms.[18]

Stepping outside, Jue surmises that Siegfried was found. Kriemhild has him called back in, having overheard him mention her husband. She reminds him that the modifications she made to the city’s Bounded Field allows her to know every mention of Siegfried, including someone’s innermost thoughts. Jue knew this, which is why he avoided thinking of Siegfried while in the city.[18]

His reason for keeping Siegfried secret was to keep Kriemhild from getting agitated, seeing that she is the lynchpin of the Revenge Realm. Kriemhild reminds Jue that she has been waiting for Siegfried, but not as his wife. She, more than anyone, has more cause to exact revenge on him, recalling how it was his fault her revenge was meaningless in the end. She believes they only give each other hate and finds detestable that he will try to kill her.[18]

The Pope's High Spirits[]

In the Righteous Realm throne room, Ritsuka is confused as to why they’re on the throne again. Charlemagne tells them it’s because they’re the Master and that they need to get used to being “Karl”.[19]

Sancho reports their current forces consist of 463 Servant. Only 25 of them are Heroic Spirit-grade, though, including those in the room. Fortunately, according to Don Quixote, morale is high and everyone is determined to protect Proper Human History. Xu Fu enters and reports they finished treating the wounded.[19]

Everyone then gets ready to begin their anti-Reinstatement and anti-Revenge dual realm countermeasures. But before they can, Roland suddenly enter and report that the Reinstatement Realm has fallen to the Revenge Realm. Vlad thought they would be in disarray with Jue assassinated. Holmes suspects, though, that the Jue they assassinated was a decoy.[19]

Bradamante suddenly barges in and immediately challenges the group to battle. Johanna enters after her. Bradamante confirms the Reinstatement Realm has collapsed with Constantine’s demise. She then gives the heroes the decision to whether the Reinstatement Realm’s remnants will join the Righteous Realm or if they will conquer it for themselves. Johanna admits she just wants to vent out her resentment toward Proper Human History.[19]

Bradamante explains they will have a 6v6 battle. The Reinstatement Realm side will consist of herself and five others, with Johanna serving as Master. The Righteous Realm side will be Holmes, Astolfo, Roland, and Don Quixote, with Ritsuka summoning the remainder. Diarmuid will be the referee. The battle then begins.[19]

The Reinstatement Realm loses the match, so Johanna asks the heroes to save her realm’s people and to make use of her. Sancho assesses correctly that Johanna is trying to make herself out as useless in the hopes her life will be spared, knowing her death would ruler out an alliance between the Reinstatement and Righteous Realms.[19]

Ritsuka asks Johanna for her help. Johanna, unable to ignore the pleas of the weak, agrees to help. She will be the heroes’ flag bearer in exchange that they do not use her realm’s people underhandedly. Charlemagne assures her they will do no such thing.[19]

But even with their combined forces, the Revenge Realm still outnumbers them in both quantity and quality. Charlemagne and Vlad both agree then that the only option is to assassinate Kriemhild.[19]

Vlad says they will have their remaining Servants act as rearguard to prevent pursuit. Charlemagne decides he , Astolfo, Roland, Holmes, Bradamante, and Ritsuka will be in the vanguard. Don Quixote wants to be in the vanguard too, but Charlemagne assigns him to the middle guard. He isn’t sure if the vanguard can survive the onslaught of enemy troops, so when that happens, he wants Don Quixote to be the new vanguard.[19]

Mash calls in to report that Kadoc has returned. Kadoc enters the throne room followed by Siegfried, who immediately declares he will be joining the Righteous Realm and Reinstatement Realm alliance.[19]

Kadoc tells everyone what he was doing. Holmes suspects with Siegfried present Kriemhild’s mind will fall into disarray. But his biggest concern right now is if Kadoc truly conversed with Moriarty. Kadoc assures the detective he did and says Mash should have the conversation logged. Mash claims, however, all conversational and visual data from when Kadoc met Moriarty onwards was destroyed.[19]

Holmes finds he cannot discern any clues from what Kadoc told him, unable to think clearly when it comes to this particular Moriarty. He wonders if it’s because this Moriarty is an Apostle of the Alien World or if it means he himself may not win no matter what. He then changes the subject to that of Kriemhild, who is the biggest threat now that she has two Grails.[19]

Later that night, Charlemagne has Ritsuka eavesdrop on his conversation with Johanna. He tells her of his unique circumstances as a Servant, explaining its nigh impossible to summon him because the historical achievements of Karl outweigh his legends. Johanna points at how everyone already knows Charlemagne’ s legend, though. Meanwhile, she was denounced as impostor.[19]

Charlemagne tells Johanna that she is not unwanted by Proper Human History as she was summoned. Her legend remains because she is wanted even though history rejected her. If no one truly wanted her, even her legend would disappear. Johanna remembers Constantine told her as much.[19]

She asks Charlemagne how he can endure knowing his life is fantasy. Charlemagne answers it’s because he fights for those who believe in him, finding it shouldn’t matter if they are real or fiction. He also finds the fact Johanna understood her support of the rebellion as a sin already means she is an ally.[19]

Johanna wonders if Constantine foresaw this would all happen. Charlemagne doubts that, believing Constantine would accept whatever Johanna chose and sacrifice himself for her. As for why Constantine would go so far for her, Charlemagne directs Johanna to Bradamante for the answer.[19]

Charlemagne understands and accepts Johanna may not rid herself of her resentment, knowing she isn’t the only one who feels that way toward Proper Human History. But before she disappears, he wants her to find something that makes it all worth it. Johanna leaves, agreeing to think about what Charlemagne said and to ask Bradamante.[19]

Emerging from their hiding spot, Ritsuka realizes Johanna may have not opened up if they were present. They vow to help Johanna something that makes it all worth it. Siegfried arrives to discuss something with Ritsuka. Charlemagne, suspecting it is a private matter, takes his leave.[19]

Siegfried has a request, for which he will have no right to complain if he is killed for it. Ritsuka takes a brief moment to cut their comms to Chaldea. Siegfried makes his request. Ritsuka is dumbfounded and Siegfried can only apologize.[19]

Johanna tells Bradamante about her conversation with Charlemagne. Bradamante admits she thought Johanna and Constantine were in love with each other. Johanna is suprised, having always thought what Constantine felt towards her was anything but romantic. She feels happy about considering Constantine as her first love, but also sad that he died. Bradamante cheers her up by telling her she misses Constantine because she was happy.[19]

Holmes tells Mash he has been thinking about Moriarty’s powers, but he lacks the clues to make a deduction. He agrees with Mash that Moriarity’s ability to compel Servants to rebel against Proper Human History may be a hint. However, he finds highly suspicious that Moriarty would provide such a hint so carelessly. Mash realizes they’re going in circles. Holmes tells her to rest up for the operation in five hours.[19]

Glorious Knights, Secret Escapades[]

The next morning, the alliance forces gather for their assault on the Revenge Realm. Charlemagne has a secret plan to deal with the Archer (Tametomo) who killed Constantine. He jokes he originally thought about using Roland as a shield.[20]

But before Charlemagne can say the actual plan, Siegfried takes it upon himself to protect the front lines from Archer with Balmung. However, he will find it difficult to focus on defense while surrounded by enemy troops.[20]

Charlemagne says he, Ritsuka, Roland, and Bradamante will handle the front lines. Astolfo, meanwhile, is his secret anti-Archer plan. He orders Astolfo to remain on foot until they’re halfway through and eliminate Archer once he begins his assault. He leaves it to Don Quixote to prove Vlad, Johanna, and Sancho in the middle guard.[20]

Sancho entrusts the Righteous Realm's Grail to Ritsuka. Charlemagne assigns Xu Fu to the middle guard and Diarmuid to the rearguard. Then, at Ritsuka’s command, the alliance forces move out.[20]

In Kriemhild’s throne room, Jue gives a report from their scouts: the Righteous Reinstatement Alliance army has mobilized, consisting only of 1005 troops. Kriemhild calls them deathlusted warriors and warns they are the strongest because they will fight to the death without regret or hesitation.[20]

Jue recommends slowly encircling them, but Kriemhild warns the enemy will take advantage of such tactics. She says the only way to fight crazed warriors is with crazed warriors.[20]

She orders Tametomo to be readied and to have him kill any enemy elite Servants on the front lines. She will remain in the throne room, but warns her troops that if “he” makes it to her throne, they are to kill themselves for their failure.[20]

The alliance forces are about to engage with the Revenge Realm army. Seeing the enemy is trying to encircle them, Charlemagne orders all troops to breakthrough the middle and outrun the enemy pursing them.[20]

As the alliance forces continue to break through the enemy, though, Assassin reports the Revenge Realm has released Demonic Beasts. He further reports the rearguard is currently engaged in battle with the enemy and Diarmuid is struggling. The vanguard keeps charging forward.[20]

Assassin informs Diarmuid that the vanguard has broken through the enemy’s Demonic Beasts. Diarmuid orders for the rearguard to catch up with the middle guard. He also wants the Archers to fire off their Noble Phantasms continuously. Meanwhile, he will stay behind. He tries to tell Assassin to fall back, but Assassin interrupts him and joins him in his last stand.[20]

With the alliance forces nearing the main gate, Tametomo is activated and fires his Noble Phantasm to kill Charlemagne per his orders.[20]

Siegfried, meanwhile, senses it coming and takes a step forward. Astolfo follows suit while the rest of the vanguard keeps their distance, as was planned. Siegfried readies Balmung while enemy Servants move to stop him. Ritsuka summons Servants to keep the enemy away from Siegfried.[20]

Siegfried unleashes Balmung and deflects Tametomo’s shot. His invincible body leaving him unscathed from the tempestuous magical energy.[20]

Tametomo revises his tactics and readies for another shot, going against Caster’s commands. Caster orders an emergency shutdown, but it does not work, so he orders the magical energy supply to be cut off immediately. Tametomo kills him and fires his Noble Phantasm at Siegfried as a threefold salvo.[20]

Astolfo mounts up on hippogriff and flies toward Tametomo’s position. Siegfried, meanwhile, deflects two of Tametomo’s shots with Balmung. However, he doesn’t have time to deflect the third shot and so takes it head on, surviving only thanks to his invincible body.[20]

Moonlight Artillery - Volley

Tametomo unleashing a volley of arrows

Tametomo notices Astolfo flying toward him. He realizes something about hippogriff, so an arrow with no killing intent whilst acting like it was meant to kill. Hippogriff phases through the arrow, completing Tametomo’s analysis. Tametomo then unleashes a volley of arrows to test hippogriff’s limits.[20]

Three arrows pierce Astolfo, but he endures it and closes the distance with repeated dimensional shifts. Tametomo kills hippogriff. Astolfo has already left its back and is free falling toward Tametomo. Tametomo aims an arrow at Astolfo’s Spirit Core, and in response Astolfo readies his lance.[20]

A flashback reveals Holmes deduced Xanten Tower turns a Servant into a turret. But the cost of such power is that said Servant will die if the magical energy supply from their legs is cut off. Charlemagne thus devised his plan for Siegfried to defend the front lines from Tametomo’s Noble Phantasm and for Astolfo to use his Noble Phantasm on Tametomo. Johanna would later bless Astolfo to avenge Constantine’s murder.[20]

Tametomo’s arrow pierces Astolfo’s Spirit Core, but he still lives thanks to Johanna’s Holy Word. He then dematerializes Tametomo’s legs with Trap of Argalia, cutting him off from the leyline. But unfortunately for Astolfo, Johanna’s blessing can only delay the inevitable. He and Tametomo disappear together, vowing to one another to have a fair fight when they next meet.[20]

The alliance forces are within 100 meters of the Revenge Realm’s main gate. It can withstand five anti-army Noble Phantasms and has spells woven into it to reflect low rank Noble Phantasms. Thus, it is called the Gate of Retribution.[20]

Roland realizes it’s up to him to open the gate. He bids farewell to his comrades, sensing that he might die.[20]

A Caster reports to Jue that the alliance forces have stopped 30 meters away from the main gate. Jue orders Caster to have all Casters stack their spells on top of each other. He warns the Gate of Retribution may be opened through conceptual means as gates are might to be opened, not closed.[20]

Roland raises Durandal and, with the miraculous power imparted from the saints’ remains embedded in its hilt, he commands the Gate of Retribution to open., which not even Johanna’s miracles could achieve[20]

The Revenge Realm Archer's pierce him with their arrows, which didn’t happen before. As the gate isn’t opening, Jue thinks he was concerned over nothing. He states the troops they deployed will soon encircle the enemy and exterminate them.[20]

Ritsuka is shocked that Roland isn’t invincible anymore. Charlemagne explains Roland offered up his invincibility to a miracle. But seeing that the gate isn’t open yet, Charlemagne wonders if he and Siegfried will have no choice but to use their Noble Phantasms.[20]

Roland offers his own life in exchange for a miracle, but it still isn’t enough to open the gate. So he offers something more important than his life: everyone’s memories of him. He is perfectly fine with no one understanding why the gate opened by itself.[20]

Everything about Roland is forgotten, including the fact he ever existed in the Singularity. In his place stands a concept that may or not be human, declaring a miracle will happen. The gate then miraculously opens by itself.[20]

No one understands why the gate suddenly opened by itself, but the alliance forces take this chance to charge in. Jue thinks a traitor is responsible and orders the gate to be shut. But seeing the gate will not close, he orders all troops to fall back to the palace. The gate does not close until the last of the alliance’s rearguard is past it.[20]

Vengeance Unrequited[]

Goredolf briefly calls the heroes before comms are abruptly cut off. Charlemagne reminds everyone will now split into two squads like they planned. The ones pressing forward will be Siegfried, Bradamante, Don Quixote, Sancho, Johanna, Holmes, Kadoc, and Ritsuka. The rest will remain with the rearguard to defend the gate. Charlemagne suddenly coughs up blood, so he lets Ritsuka order all troops to go on the offensive in his stead.[21]

The heroes soon encounter approximately 300 Servants. Johanna orders the enemy to fall back or stand down, creating immense pressure on them. But as she feared, her orders are less effective on those whose object of faith differ. Nevertheless, she did take a few out of commission, so she leaves the rest to the others.[21]

Charlemagne finishes off the enemy with Joyeuse. He reassures Ritsuka he can last until they reach the throne. The heroes continue to press forward.[21]

Meanwhile, in the throne room, Kriemhild is delighted that the object of her vengeance is coming her way. She suspects Jue has his own agenda, though.[21]

Jue says it will be fulfilled once they achieve victory for their Master by getting the Righteous Realm's Grail. He encourages Kriemhild to focus entirely on Siegfried instead of her duty as a Servant. Suspecting the heroes will arrive at the palace soon, he heads out to receive them, promising Kriemhild that he will divert Siegfried her way.[21]

The heroes reach the palace and are stopped by a Taoist spell. Jue reveals himself, along with members of Kriemhild’s personal squad. Holmes has Siegfried and Charlemagne go on ahead with Ritsuka and Kadoc. He and the others stay behind to fight Jue and the Servants with him.[21]

Ritsuka’s party enters the palace where they’re immediately attacked by the enemy. They fight but soon find the enemy is pressing in from the front and the back. Charlemagne decides he’ll handle front and tries to tell Siegfried to handle the rear when Siegfried warns Ritsuka and Kadoc about the Assassin behind them. Kadoc shields RItsuka from Assassin’s attack.[21]

Thinking this is the end, Kadoc reminisces about how dull and mediocre his life was. He recalls reading Chaldea’s records on the other Crypters. He was the first Crypter to be defeated, so he feels there is nothing he can do now.[21]

He doesn’t understand why he moved to shield Ritsuka. Even though he hated Ritsuka, Ophelia Phamrsolone and Scandinavia Peperoncino gave everything to preserve their life. He accepts RItsuka has more potential than him and is ready to meet his end.[21]

To his surprise, though, Assassin is thwarted and the hall freezes. A figure looking like Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova appears and informs Kadoc they are fulfilling Anastasia’s request to keep him safe. Anastasia wished for him to live, a wish that it, Viy, also shares. Viy then vanishes from sight.[21]

Kadoc holds back his tears, being both happy and sad. He understands what he saw were the vestiges of Viy, with it only being coincidence it took Anastasia’s form and came to his aid. But being protected somehow makes him proud that he was Anastasia’s Master. Reinvigorated, he then backs Ritsuka up with the remnants of Viy’s power.[21]

Ritsuka and Kadoc are straining themselves, and there are still so many enemies left. Kiyohime appears and offers to clear a path. Kadoc thinks she defected to the Revenge Realm, but Kiyohime denies it.[21]

She asks Ritsuka if they intend to destroy the Singularity, to which Ritsuka answers yes. As they answered honestly, Kiyohime agrees to help even though she has no wish to help the deceitful Proper Human History. She will open a path with her flames, one that will lead the heroes to the throne. She, meanwhile, will stay behind to hold off the enemy. Even she doesn’t understand why she is going so far to help.[21]

Kiyohime unleashes her flames, creating a path to the throne. Charlemagne stays behind to help Kiyohime, while the others go on ahead.[21]

Meanwhile, with Holmes’s group, Jue casts Ji Ji Ru Luling, but instead of praying to a Xian per the norm, he makes his prayer treating himself as the god. Holmes suspects it is his trump card and warns Bradamante to keep her distance from Jue and remain on the defensive.[21]

Jue tries to curse Bradamante, but Johanna protects her. Jue is incredulous that Johanna is helping to destroy the Singularity, having thought she too harbored rebellious thoughts toward Proper Human History. Johana answers avenging Constantine is more important to her.[21]

Feeling he has no other choice, Jue calls for more of Kriemhild’s personal squadron to overpower the heroes with numbers. But suddenly two of the enemy Servants are sniped by the Sharpshooter. From the very beginning she intended to destroy the Singularity, and she has waited for an opportunity to kill Jue.[21]

Her shot is blocked and Jue kills her with Ji Ji Ru Luling. He is wary, however, that she didn’t have any counters when he realizes she used her death to get him to drop his guard.[21]

Don Quixote takes this opportunity to start activating his first Noble Phantasm, only for him and Sancho to switch with Bradamante. She blinds Jue with Bouclier d’Atlante, allowing Don Quixote and Sancho to get closer to Jue and activate their second Noble Phantasm. Jue’s powers are negated and Bradamante seemingly kills him.[21]

Having used their second Noble Phantasm for a third time, Don Quixote and Sancho can go no further. The heroes wonder though who was the sniper who saved them, only knowing that they seemed to be a traitor to the Revenge Realm based on Jue’s word. The Sharpshooter disappears, praying that the heroes win.[21]

Ritsuka’s party enters the throne room. Kriemhild makes it clear nothing will stop her from exacting her vengeance, not even if she’s betrayed and doomed to fight alone. She accuses Siegfried of betraying her love as she risked everything to avenge him, yet he had forsaken his life from the very beginning. She cannot forgive him for that.[21]

Her very words electrify the room. She has risen to the level of a Top Servants thanks to the Grails, with her stats suspected to be greater than Siegfried’s. Nevertheless, Siegfried fights Kriemhild wielding his Holy Sword Balmung against her Demonic Sword Balmung.[21]

Though she lacks finesse and the basics of swordsmanship, Kriemhild is able to push Siegfried back thanks to the magical energy from the Grails and her hatred making up for her shortcomings.[21]

Ritsuka sees damage to Siegfried accumulating. Kadoc realizes they need to find a weakness and asks Viy to transfer the power of its Mystic Eyes to Siegfried. Viy does so, allowing Siegfried to gain the advantage. Kriemhild easily deduces it is thanks to Mystic Eyes and that their nature is to exploit weaknesses. She finds this fair since she already knows Siegfried’s weaknesses.[21]

As she continues to battle Siegfried, Kriemhild thinks on how her love for him remained immutable even after she was driven mad with vengeance. But from her perspective, it seemed like Siegfried never truly loved her or cared about her feelings at all. It makes her furious that Siegfried thought she would simply move from his death.[21]

Despite support from the Grails and her crazed lust for revenge, Kriemhild is defeated by Siegfried. The Grails fall from her grasp and Ritsuka retrieves them. They tense, however, as they already know what comes next.[21]

Kriemhild laments all her preparations were all for nothing. Siegfried, however, admires her strength and regrets he didn’t have more faith in her. He had thought Kriemhild was the type of person who keeps going no matter what and believed she would lead a better life. He also realizes now that he should have had more faith in her noble outlook on love. Siegfried then unexpectedly decides to fight for Kriemhild.[21]

It is revealed that the request Siegfried made with Ritsuka last night was for him to fight for Kriemhild should she survive the crumbling of her ambitions, even if it means going against Ritsuka.[21]

Kriemhild is astonished that Siegfried would go that far. Siegfried confesses he fights for the one he loves. He encourages the stunned Kriemhild to stand with him and win for her pride and love. Kriemhild stands up and joins her husband in battling against Ritsuka and Kadoc.[21]

Siegfried and Kriemhild are defeated. Kriemhild regrets her crazed lust for vengeance and the current situation. Siegfried calls it both their punishment and their atonement. The couple then disappear holding hands.[21]

Mash calls in to report that all three Grails have been secured. She continues that most of the Revenge Realm Servants have perished, while the survivors surrendered. But with the three realms now unified, it is expected the Servants will soon be unsummoned.[21]

Goredolf gives his congratulations, but he is concerned that there isn’t any sign of a Singularity’s collapse.[21]

Outside the throne room, Kiyohime bids farewell to Ritsuka and disappears, having deluded herself into believing they are her Anchin.[21]

Ritsuka and Kadoc rendezvous with the others outside the palace. Holmes reports Jue perished, but since he disappeared in the same way during the assassination, he cannot be sure it was the real thing. He is curious though that the Singularity has yet to collapse, even though all the Grails have been secured. He surmises it is Moriarty’s fault when a sudden tremor occurs.[21]

Moriarty transmits to the heroes and gives the alliance his sarcastic congratulations. As Charlemagne doesn’t know who he is, Moriarty reintroduces himself with the additional moniker that he is the last Servant rebelling against Proper Human History. He claims, though, that he isn’t affected by the Singularity’s “fever”. He also reveals the unification of the three realms was a necessary ritual.[21]

He sarcastically congratulates the heroes again, calling their efforts pointless since they will not result in the Singularity’s elimination. Don Quixote refutes him, believing there was meaning to this battle for Ritsuka and many others still live. He and Sancho then disappear, but not before Sancho gives Ritsuka Minerva to serve as a scout until the Singularity is eliminated.[21]

Charlemagne asks Moriarty what he wants. Moriarty answers he wants a decisive battle with Chaldea, namely Holmes. Holmes readily accepts. Moriarty tells him to come to the center of the boundary of the three realms, where a fitting stage has been set: Reichenbach Falls.[21]

After Moriarty ends his transmission, Goredolf questions what his role in the Singularity was. Johanna recalls when he appeared in the Reinstatement Realm, Moriarty recommended unifying the realms and warned about Chaldea. She realizes now, though, that his only interest ever was settling the score and his nemesis.[21]

Bradamante disappears, hoping it will be a proper summons next time.[21]

Johanna confesses she still has animosity toward Proper Human History, but she still wishes for the heroes’ safety. Also, since Constantine truly existed, she thinks the Proper Human History must be wonderful. She can now proudly say the good outweighs the bad, with Constantine’s wish making it all worth it. She disappears, wishing the heroes good luck.[21]

Holmes tries to deduce the Master’s true nature, mentioning the countless Command Spells in the war were an important clue. Vlad stops him from going further and tells him he must set out immediately.[21]

As he has yet to recover from the damage done to his Spirit Origin and considering the strain on Ritsuka’s magical energy reserves, Vlad finds it best for him to return to the Spirit Graph trunk. He entrusts Ritsuka to Charlemagne and bequeaths to him the magical energy that kept him materialized. Afterward, the heroes leave the city following Minerva’s lead.[21]

Outside the city, the heroes find a Taoist talisman with a letter left by Xu Fu. In her letter, Xu Fu theorizes there is a different Master for each Servant. She had learned through divination of herself and another Servant that each summoning is conducted with different thoughts in mind. She also suspected the difference between Masters affected an individual Servant’s revulsion toward Proper Human History.[21]

Holmes struggles to deduce the possibility of there being multiple Master's. Charlemagne recommends thinking it over along the way because he himself doesn’t have much time left and it’s possible he could disappear the moment they reach Reichenbach Falls. The heroes proceed onward, riding the golem carriage while Charlemagne stays in spirit form to keep his magical energy consumption at a minimum.[21]

During the trip, Holmes reveals he knew for some time that Kadoc was suspicious of him and asks if he has cleared himself. Kadoc is unsure and wonders if his suspicions were his mind playing tricks on him.[21]

He asks Holmes if there is a difference between the young Moriarty and the aged Moriarty. Holmes answers the aged Moriarty never took his evil seriously and tried to reach a point beyond good and evil. The young Moriarty, meanwhile, is making an attempt to be evil and is a mere fledging at it.[21]

Holmes agrees with Kadoc that is possible that Moriarty’s powers as an Apostle of the Alien World are influencing his personality. Nothing is known about Rasputin, given Chaldea’s lack of contact with him. Senji Muramasa’s personality didn’t appear muddled despite him housing two Divine Spirits within himself. There isn’t enough information on Ashiya Douman to reach a conclusion, though chaos may just be his nature. As for Moriarty, there is little discrepancy between young and old.[21]

Nevertheless, Holmes believes they can find Moriarty’s weakness if they can identify the Divine Spirits embedded in him that allow him to invalidate any attack. Mash has a database of world myths ready to help point in the right direction. Minerva calls, meaning the heroes have reached their destination.[21]

Death of a Detective[]

Charlemagne materializes ready to help fight Moriarty, but Holmes requests to have a one-on-one battle with Moriarty. Reluctantly, the others allow it all the while, fearing Holmes will not come back from this battle. Holmes thus begins his battle with Moriarty, determined to win and fill the void in him.[22]

Severely wounded in his battle, Holmes finds himself somewhere reminiscent of a dream. There Moriarty asks him the question he’s always avoided: Who is his Master?[22]

Holmes recalls Charles Babbage in the Fourth Singularity telling him a crisis is bound to occur after the Incineration of Humanity is resolved. The Incineration of Humanity began 2016 and extended into the past, but not the future. Goetia foresaw the future did not exist and harvested resources by working backwards from 2016. Babbage thus requested Holmes to discover the motivation behind the Incineration of Humanity and the true nature of the Singularities.[22]

Entrusted with Babbage’s request, Holmes moved from his original summoning site in London to the Sixth Singularity because he heard TRI-HERMES was there. This series of events would be unknown to Chaldea thanks to Atlas’ communications jamming. It also postponed the truth of Holmes’s summoning, as no Servant summoned by the land can travel to another land without a Master.[22]

Holmes realizes he is the first Apostle of the Alien God, summoned in 2016 to serve as a double agent to help Chaldea thwart Goetia’s plan. As he has no recollection of this, he surmises he must have sealed all memories pertaining to him being an Apostle.[22]

He deduces he obeyed the Alien God of his own volition. But he didn’t erase his memories to hide his true status, rather because recalling it would compel him to obey the Alien God willingly. Betraying his own creed, Holmes replaced his original self, which made deductions irrespective of good and evil, with one whose deductions leaned towards good, one whom the Chaldeans would prefer.[22]

In the waking world, Holmes realizes he had been avoiding the truth because if it were discovered it would endanger him and those around him. He confesses he is an Apostle and that his role is to ■■■■■■■. He deduces Moriarty’s objective is Chaldea and, to unveil it, he reveals Moriarty’s power is that of the three Norse goddesses of fate――the NornWP. With that final revelation, Holmes falls off the cliff.[22]

As he falls, Holmes understands by averting himself from the truth he has betrayed the Alien God, though he cannot deny his betrayal of Chaldea. As his role is to ■■■■■■■ he finds the timing fortunate. He realizes that when Sion said “a problem so difficult that even the great detective overlooked it” she was actually warning that him ignoring it is the problem. He apologizes for not noticing, but he had no choice because those feelings didn’t benefit the great detective who was investigating the murder of Proper Human History.[22]

Holmes Traum CG

The death of Sherlock Holmes

Reminiscing about his days at Chaldea, Holmes realizes he was avoiding the truth all so he could remain friends with them. But by choosing to die now, he has avoided the worst option. He smiles up at Moriarty, who is looking puzzled. He bids farewell to his friends at Chaldea, knowing they will triumph in the end, and disappears.[22]

With Holmes dead, Moriarty moves on to his next objective of usurping Chaldea, which he believes he can make far more efficient. He asks Kadoc to be his Master, possessing no interest in Ritsuka. Kadoc refuses to become a traitor again, though Moriarty assures that will not be the case. Kadoc is incredulous that Moriarty would denounce his status as an Apostle.[22]

Moriarty reveals he didn’t contract with the Alien God, rather with the system they possess. The Alien God summoned him and bestowed power upon, but he severed the fate that obliged him to obey with the power of the Norn. Through their power, he can link and sever the threads of fate. Kadoc realizes Moriarty didn’t die because he kept linking his fate so he wouldn’t die from any attack.[22]

Now that Holmes is dead, Moriarty no longer needs to remain an Apostle, and he wants Kadoc to be his new Master. Kadoc, after some consideration, agrees to be his new Master on the condition he triumph over Ritsuka. Moriarty accepts, believing it will be a futile battle. Ritsuka accepts as well, with Kadoc encouraging them to do it for Holmes.[22]

Ritsuka calls on Charlemagne to fight. Moriarty notices Charlemagne is leaking magical energy everywhere and doubts he can last a few minutes. Ritsuka thus calls upon their First Servant.[22]

Mash emergency rayshifts to Reichenbach Falls already equipped with the Ortenaus. She joins Charlemagne and moves to attack Moriarty. Moriarty uses his powers to make it so Mash’s attacks will not reach him, only for her attack to connect. Confused, he looks at the threads of fate and sees they’re about to snap. Mash tells him by defeating Holmes, his destined rival, he had terminated his own fate. Moriarty ascends his Spirit Origin and fights the heroes with his own power.[22]

Defeated, Moriarty deduces Kadoc had revealed the threads of fate, allowing them to be severed. Viy, having used the last of its power, bids farewell to Kadoc and disappears after Kadoc thanks it for protecting him.[22]

Kadoc confirms to Moriarty that it was thanks to him that Mash could sever the threads of fate. Moriarty accepts his defeat, but he asks the heroes to help him now that his situation is like Charlemagne’s. To entice them to do so, he reveals he is the only one who knows the location of something in the Singularity which will be crucial to Chaldea’s future.[22]

As it is a matter for Chaldea, Charlemagne stays out of it, as does Kadoc. Mash recommends accepting Moriarty’s proposal, believing Holmes would do the same. Goredolf and Ritsuka thus agree to accept Moriarty’s proposal.[22]

Ritsuka forms a temporary contract with Moriarty, thereby extending the latter’s lifetime. After Charlemagne disappears, Moriarty agrees to take the Chaldeans to the Singularity’s secret. It is hidden deep within the Righteous Realm in what used to be Nevada.[22]

And You Will Know Retribution[]

As only he knows where the Singularity’s secret is, Moriarty drives the golem carriage. He sends Minerva out to keep watch and afterward the heroes get going.[23]

Kadoc asks Ritsuka and Mash how they feel about Holmes. Mash confesses she is feeling sad and frustrated, but mostly she cannot believe it. She doesn’t think Holmes is alive, though, as the disappearance of his Spirit Origin was confirmed after she rayshifted. But considering he returned from his supposed death at Reichenbach Falls in life, Mash thinks Holmes will return as if nothing happened.[23]

The rest of Chaldea agrees Holmes is sure to return, especially since the mysteries of the bleaching of the world, the Alien God’s true identity, and the purpose of the Fantasy Trees have still yet to be solved. So, until he returns, the Chaldeans will endeavor to gather as much information as possible.[23]

The heroes camp in a forest for the night. Minerva shuts down, having gone as far as she can with the current technology.[23]

Kadoc admits he was beyond shocked when he learned Hinako Akuta was Yu Mei-ren and wonders how she got the job. Mash recalls Koyanskaya said Director Marisbury recruited her likely because he sought to eliminate the risks of a rayshifting. Kadoc admits that he also was convinced Akuta had connections with Marisbury.[23]

Mash asks Kadoc for his thoughts on Kirschtaria’s plan to deify humanity. Kadoc admits he wasn’t aware, but he doesn’t think it was foolish. It surprised him, though, that Kirschtaria would throw away the egotism typical of mages to help humanity for its own benefit.[23]

Goredolf asks Kadoc what knows about Daybit Sem Void. Kadoc considers him an enigma whose ability to instantly discern the situation is comparable to Holmes’s. Goredolf gets upset that none of that was helpful. The heroes then get some sleep.[23]

After another day of travel, the heroes reach their destination. Moriarty speaks the words “Open Sesame” to undo his illusion to reveal stairs leading underground. The heroes proceed to descend deep underground in pitch black darkness, noticing that the stairs feel man-made.[23]

To the surprise of all except Moriarty, they find Jue at the bottom. Moriarty assures them, though that Jue is long dead. He deduces Jue is a shijiexian, but so long as he remains a corpse, his Master cannot supply him with magical energy. Jue, therefore, had to create an alter ego of himself while removing its self-awareness as an alter ego because otherwise it would be at risk of annihilation. So long as the real Jue continues to exist, he will revive as an alter ego. Said alter ego would eventually restore the Singularity, invite the resummoned Servants, and incite another War of the Realms, all for the sake of his Master. The cost of creating an alter ego is that Jue systematized his real self, rendering him a mere decoration. The real Jue shatters and disappears.[23]

Moriarty reveals Jue had no choice but to protect this place. While his Master created the Singularity, it was Jue who nurtured it and why it was so bizarre.[23]

Before opening the door, Moriarty warns communications with Chaldea will likely be impossible from this point onward. Da Vinci confirms the signal is about to cut off, so she and Goredolf tell Ritsuka, Mash, and Kadoc to return safely. After the signal cuts off, Moriarty opens the door.[23]

The door opens to an otherworldly corridor beyond which Moriarty says lies ground zero of the Singularity. Kadoc finds something about the corridor familiar, but he doesn’t say anything. He, Ritsuka, and Mash all feel they’re about to see something ominous as they all walk down the corridor without a word.[23]

Reaching the end of the corridor, Moriarty says the Singularity’s Master lies ahead. The Master had the right and was duty bound to take his revenge on Proper Human History. Jue thus established the Singularity to grant that wish, using Area 51 in the year 2017 as its point of origin.[23]

Moriarty opens the door to an operating theater. Ritsuka, Mash, and Kadoc are all disturbed by what they’re seeing. Before he disappears, Moriarty introduces the heroes to the Singularity’s origin, a lifeform that crash-landed on Earth 100 years and fostered a hatred for humanity after 100 years of being experimented on――Specimen E.[23]
