Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro (土御門泰広?) is the Master of Caster in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Background[]
A descendant of Abe-no-Seimei and the head of the Tsuchimikado family, the onmyouji lineage. He is said to be the Observer who hosts the Waxing Moon Ritual.[1]
Several centuries ago, Abe-no-Seimei learned of the Holy Grail War though divination and recorded details of the war's structure. Centuries later, his descendant, Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro, would discover these records and use them to create his own weaker version of the Holy Grail, the Waxing Moon. Yasuhiro then approached the Shogunate and requested resources to create the Waxing Moon Ritual while hiding the true power of the ritual. The Shogunate, lured in by the promise of having any wish granted, agreed. Despite being the overseer, as the Waxing Moon ritual begins, Yasuhiro himself becomes a participant, summoning Caster.
He is later approached by Takao Dayu, who, having learned of the ritual, wished to participate in the hopes of using the wish to help the people of the slums. Yasuhiro agreed under the condition of her becoming his subordinate and following his orders. He then granted her command spells.
According to Yui Shousetsu, in the diary in his residence, the ritual was done to restore the Tsuchimikado family name and regain power over the capital.
Appearance[]
Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro is a tall man dressed in onmyouji garbs, in his head he wears a headpiece which includes a long veil that covers his face and part of his torso. With this veil removed, Tsuchimikado is revealed to be an older gentleman with very defined wrinkles and expression lines. Both his hair and eyes are shades of a dark grey-ish green.
His hair is in a hairstyle with a topknot that pulls most of his hair back and he sports bangs with a longer strand of hair in each side.
Personality[]
Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro is a serious goal oriented man, due to his background with magecraft he never felt any need to see servants are nothing more than tools and thus is rarely seen interacting with Caster more than necessary. His goals in the ritual are all for the sake of his family.
As is expressed by his brother, he carried all the burdens of the family himself, hoping to regain his family's lost glory and restore their name and power through the Waxing Moon Ritual.[1]
Role[]
Fate/Samurai Remnant[]
Throughout the game, Iori and Saber are repeatedly attacked by mind-controlled Samurai. While they initially believe them to be the work of Yui Shousetsu, it is later revealed that they are the shogunate's forces under Yasuhiro's control.
Partway though the story, Yasuhiro forcibly takes control of Archer, Rider, Assassin, Rogue Archer, Rogue Lancer, Rogue Rider, Rogue Berserker, and Rogue Assassin using the Waxing Moon.
In the Flames of Resentment route, Iori pursues Yasuhiro instead of chasing the rampaging Assassin. Iori and Saber ally themselves with Rogue Saber, who is not controlled by Yasuhiro. The trio encounters Yasuhiro on the roof of his residence, but Yasuhiro gets control over Rogue Saber and fights against Iori and Saber. During their battle, Saber breaks Rogue Saber's sword and launches loose piece of blade in Yasuhiro's direction, perforating his right arm. He gets down and explains the nature of the ritual to the trio. He then uses a Command Spell to summon the Rogue Servants under his control.
Chiemon and Lancer arrive, launching a surprise attack and piercing Yasuhiro's chest with Lancer's spear. He crawls on the ground calling for Rider's assistance before being finished by Lancer who pierces his body, killing him. This breaks his control over the Rogue Servants, who go into their Spirit Forms and return to their Spirit Fonts.
In the Ray of Light route, Yasuhiro is killed off-screen by Chiemon and Lancer while Iori fights the rampaging Assassin.
Keian Command Championship[]
Several days prior, in an attempt to win the Waxing Moon Ritual, Yasuhiro attempts to summon a Divine Spirit at his command using his dark magic and the power of the Waxing Moon. While warned by Caster it may not end well, Yasuhiro continues his goal and summons Ruler-Class Servant Ibuki-douji. as a Stray-Servant. However, as predicted by Caster, Ibuki is uncontrollable who escapes under his watch and is caught by Gilgamesh and entrapped.
Upon entering the Keian Command Championship, Yasuhiro forfeits his right to participate and instead locates and unseals Ibuki, releasing her. While still uncontrollable, Ibuki aids Yasuhiro in his route and brings him victory while leaving him the wish-granter Gilgamesh offers and believe the Waxing Moon was no longer necessary. Though to Yasuhiro's misfortune, Ibuki took his wish and used it to incarnate herself, then proceeds to live with him with the promise of helping him much to his chagrin, lamenting how things became this way.
Fate/Grand Order[]
Waxing Moon Clashing Swords Chronicles[]
Chiemon uses a spell that Mori Souiken taught him to call on Yasuhiro's spirit to battle Iori and Saber. Appearing in the form of a Giant Ghost, Yasuhiro summons Shadow Servants of the Rogue Servants from the Waxing Moon Ritual. After being defeated by Saber's Noble Phantasm, as he fades away he entrusts the future rebirth of the Tsuchimikado family to his brother Takatoshi.
Abilities[]
He specializes in techniques forbidden by Buddhist principles.[3]
Tsuchimikado can use the Waxing Moon to mind control Servants via the Leylines of Edo. Servants with high enough Divinity can resist his control.[2]
Through the power of the Waxing Moon, Tsuchimkado can call upon the Divine-Spirit Ibuku-Douji, but as a Stray-Servant.
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro was designed by Rei Wataru in Fate/Samurai Remnant. His scenario writer is Yuuichirou Higashide.[4] He was designed to look similar to Kirei Kotomine, which is reflected in his "arms spread" pose in his artwork.[5]
