Melvin Weins augmenting Gray and Yvette's Magic Circuits with his music.

Tuning (調律, Chōritsu?) Magecraft is a practice focusing on the tuning of Magic Crests. Practitioners are called Tuners (調律師, Chōritsu-shi?).

Characteristics[]

Tuners are rare within the Clock Tower. Differing from Magic Crest Restoration, Tuners are able able to help with recovery of Magic Crests to a lesser degree.[1]

They can perform intervention during the Magic Crest transplantation process to aid in the reduction of side effects that normally stem from rejection of the Crest.[1] During the separation of a Source Crest Magic Crest into fragment Magic Crests for branch families to inheret, the usage of a Tuner can cause the damage of separation to be healed in a period of several months to a year.[2]

They can perform stimulation of Magic Crests for the purpose of short-term increase in ability. Tuners resonate with the natural wavelength of the Crest, better matching it with the wavelength of the host. Due to the Crest being akin to a living being, its natural wavelength differs from the magus, so syncing the two increases the effectiveness. By striking a tuning fork against his violin case and then mixing medicines together and applying it to Yvette L. Lehrman's neck as if drawing a magic circle, Melvin Weins temporarily improved the output of her Magic Crest by 20%.[1] In the anime adaptation, he played his violin to temporarily improve Gray and Yvette's Magic Circuits by 20%.

Despite their similar English names, Helena Blavatsky's Skill Mana Tuning (魔力同調, Maryoku Dōchō) is seemingly unrelated as the two are spelled differently in Japanese, although the description of the process is fairly similar to Tuning magecraft.
