The United States of AmericaWP (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or simply America, is a country located primarily in North AmericaWP.

History[]

Originally, many different native peoples, the ancestors of the Native AmericansWP, engaging in hunting and agriculture inhabited the entire continent. However, in 1492, during the Age of ExplorationWP, Christopher Columbus arrived in America from Spain. Following this, Europeans began to settle the land, or rather, invade it, stealing the lands of the indigenous people due to the belief that even the poor could get rich with enough effort on the new continent.[1]

By the late 17th century, at the tail end of the Age of Exploration, most of the European interest in colonization had moved from Asia to the New World. The United States of America was then originally a colony of Britain, known as New EnglandWP. The first colonists were the Pilgrim FathersWP, who founded the towns of PlymouthWP, BostonWP, and Salem.[2] At first, relations with the Native Americans were friendly, and they even helped the colonists survive the harsh winter. However, when the Europeans came, they also brought with them an epidemic that nearly wiped out the MassachusettWP tribe living in Boston Harbor. The WampanoagWP tribe members who survived the plague would wage warWP against the colonists, but the fighting would eventually end with the revolt's leaderWP's head mounted on a pike. Ironically, the state of MassachusettsWP would later be named after the tribe whose near extermination led to its creation.[3]

The British colony frequently engaged in skirmished with the French colonies over resources.[2] New England would later become known as the Thirteen ColoniesWP, and eventually sought independence from its parent nation during a conflict called the Revolutionary WarWP, which it eventually won in 1783 AD.[4][1] Once it won, the United States was established as a country and expanded across the continent of North America.

World of Magecraft[]

The continent of North America is despised by the Mage’s Association for its weak Mystery and is overlooked,[5][6] making it an ideal hiding place for rogue magi looking to avoid the organization.[7] The Association does have a branch in North America, but relatively few magi are stationed there.[3] While the United States is ignored by the Association, the U.S. government is aware of Mystery, and has a secretive department made up partially of magi within itself that is part of the World of Magecraft, but remains completely loyal to the interests of the state.[8] It is also the home country of the Scladio Family, who hold a significant degree of influence within the U.S. government, to the point where they nearly succeeded in a plot to subtly usurp it.[9]

The original inhabitants of the land that would become the United States, such as Geronimo’s Apache people and the Protectors of the Land (土地守の一族?) tribe to which Tiné Chelc belongs, practice traditions of Magecraft unrelated to those of Europe. As the United States gradually seized more and more land from these peoples, many of their descendants have come to bear grudges against it. For the Protectors of the Land, this sacred land is especially important, as their magecraft relies on sacrificing individuals to the land and binding them to it, granting them incredible power in thaumaturgy in exchange for being unable to physically leave the land.[10]

American police officers have an excellent reputation for skill, with Natalia Kaminski noting that they easily exterminated a monstrous familiar created by Heinrich Zepter despite a complete lack of knowledge regarding the supernatural.[7] At least one police department based in Snowfield, headed by Orlando Reeve, is composed entirely of magi and loyal to the U.S. government's magecraft organization.[8]

The Holy Church has considerable influence within the United States, presumably due to lack of interference from the Association, but their exact degree of power varies from state to state. Nevada, in which the town of Snowfield is located, is one state in which the Church’s influence is rather weak. Their ability to manipulate events is also dependent on the nation’s current president and public opinion among citizens towards the Catholic religion.[11]

The passageway to Specimen E's labroom is a strange "cosmic corridor" that appears as a pathway in the middle of space despite being part of an underground facility.[16]

Da Vinci and Sion later determined that the Area 51 visited at the end of the Traum Singularity was actually the version of Area 51 inside CHALDEAS. The cosmic corridor was the link between Earth and CHALDEAS. CHALDEAS simulates 100 years in the future, meaning it is the year 2117 inside of it, which explains why David Bluebook who is from CHALDEAS would describe the 21st century technology as outdated.[17]
