Re: Servants[edit source]

As for the character templates, I'd just remove the entries that are in the characters template from the original wiki article table and put them in the template instead. I think I'll make a special template or an extension of the existing one eventually. I'd also cut the "likes" and "dislikes" cells because they're pretty pointless (and ripped off from Moonlit World too, I think) - if something like that is important, put it in prose, not in a table. As for sourcing, it's always a good idea to note what you can, though your best source will always be the ingame character info, which you might want to double-check against. I definitely know that Wikipedia had Saber's weight wrong a while ago.

But my strongest advice for now is not caring much about formatting (that's easily done later, and I can do all of them fast after the fact), and to check for content accuracy instead, which is more important in the long run. -- grm_wnr Esc 00:15, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Noble Phantasm template[edit source]

This is the proposition for NP template:

(Commented out to prevent cluttering the page with the infobox. See source for actual template text)
Azaghal 22:58, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I moved the template to Template:Noble Phantasm and fixed it up (a bit). Feel free to use it. -- grm_wnr Esc 16:47, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for my late reply (I have much less free time recently), but by the looks of it you managed to solve the problem on your own... right? At least it looks right to me now. -- grm_wnr Esc 20:45, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I think I mostly fixed it - it now has some duplicate information, but I guess that's acceptable. I don't have the nerve to extensively rewrite it right now. -- grm_wnr Esc 21:43, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

this wiki needs an admin who's regularly around[edit source]

and since you are a user who's more or less regularly around, do you think you can apply for adminship for this wiki? User:Grm wnr hasn't edited since early January, and User:InsaneZero not since last year September... -Afker All hail AliceSoft! 22:51, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

If you have any questions on MediaWiki related stuff, I should be able to help, as I admin the AlicSoftWiki and have quit some experience. Colon[edit source]

Hi, IP here. A return in the title isn't conclusive to say whether or not the name has a colon when it's on one line. I'll look at the official websites. --Raijinili 01:07, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Of course, if you find some evidence about it, article can always be renamed/moved. I went with the naming scheme from other MB articles to keep consistency, but I could have been wrong. A quick look at the official site from Wikipedia article (that uses a colon btw) at [1] shows it being spelled simply "MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza Ver.B", but it could be different with some other sources. --Azaghal 01:44, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
confirms no colon. --Raijinili 03:24, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Site icon.[edit source]

This site's wikipedia:favicon doesn't seem to work with Firefox's search engine saver. Isn't that curious? --Raijinili 00:40, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I noticed that. Dunno why it is that way, but looking randomly at the few other Wikia wikis, they have the same problem... If you keep the engine selection menu opened long enough, it will grab the default Wikia favicon, but never the favicon displayed at the address bar... Azaghal 01:06, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Yugioh and The World Ends with You work, from what I have. Looking into known bugs, but I'm not finding any hints so far. --Raijinili 04:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
The .ico had three layers. I removed two of them and made it redder (to increase visibility) and uploaded at Image:Favicon replacement.ico. --Raijinili 05:38, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I checked Dragon Ball and Gears of War, since the links were right on the bottom of the page, and both didn't work. Anyway, if it really was due to layers, then you found the problem quite nicely :) . I posted on Grm_wnr's Talk Page and asked him to look into this and change the favicon if appropriate (since the favicon page is protected and normal uses can't edit it). --Azaghal 11:58, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I got admin rights from the main Wikia staff and uploaded the new favicon from Image:Favicon replacement.ico. Unfortunately, It didn't help (I tried clearing cache but to no avail). I'm still getting the default Wikia icon... --Azaghal 12:35, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Before checking this page, I got the same result when looking at the "Add" option. It made me search a few minutes in vain to try to find a bug report for it, but when I gave up and just added TMW back, the icon changed to the red moon. --Raijinili 05:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Wow, same thing here. That is weird in a kinda creepy way, but at least it works now. --Azaghal 11:22, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Uploaded a new version to Image:Favicon replacement.ico. --Raijinili 23:34, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Requested transfer of adminship[edit source]

I put in a request on Wikia to transfer adminship to you. --Raijinili 12:14, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, this should speed things up. I tried some time ago to get the wiki founder to give me admin rights, but he went MIA, and until now there really wasn't any work that required administrative rights to be done, so I let it slide... --Azaghal 13:55, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

CSS change to fix the Fate/ pages[edit source]

Add this to MediaWiki:Common.css:

body.ns-0 #contentSub .subpages { display:none; }

I would prefer to do it on each page individually, or only on Fate/ pages, but I can't figure out how to do that. --Raijinili 17:46, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Done, though I can's see the difference yet, even with clearing my cache. Common.css is loaded to pages through "MediaWiki:Common.css&usemsgcache=yes&action=raw&ctype=text/css&smaxage=86400", which forces it to reload at least once every 24 hours (86400 seconds), so it should fix itself after that period... Also, nice find with that fix :) --Azaghal 23:11, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA?[edit source]

Is this official? If not, should there be a Category:Fanwork or should we just have Cat:Doujin and assume that's all fanwork? --141.155.12.146 19:29, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, TYPE-MOON's involvement with it's production is probably minimal, but it's official spin-off published by Kadokawa [2] and endorsed by T-M (they are credited as 'Original Creators'). Being a spin-off, it doesn't really infringe on T-M's canon, too.
Personally, I'm against Fanwork/Doujin category, at lest while there's so much official info (mostly backstory stuff) that is still missing from this wiki or is just dumped/unsorted... --Azaghal 20:02, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Disambiguation pages[edit source]

According to Special:Disambiguations, the software will list an article on that page if it uses a template linked to (rather than just listed, I'm assuming) on MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage. That page is protected, though.

I think we should use the built-in disambig stuff since it's already there, and that means that there has to be a Template:Disambig. --Raijinili 00:28, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

That's a pretty big and conspicuous tag. Why not just modify the wikia:template:disambig template? --Raijinili 01:08, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I was just about to respond here that I just copied Category:Disambiguations and Template:Disambig from starter Wiki to see if it works, but you beat me to it. Anyways, we have to wait until the cache clears to see if it appears on Special:Disambiguations.
But you are right, wikia:template:disambig is much more lightweight, I'll put that one instead. --Azaghal 01:16, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Updating the "Nasu Encyclopedia (ja)" link[edit source]

I totally forgot about this, but a month or two back the Jonnobi glossary switched hosts for whatever reason, so the Sidebar link should be updated. The new link: [3] --CanonRap

Thanks for the heads up. To tell the truth, I had the new link for a week or so, but couldn't find WHERE was it linked from on the wiki (it didn't occur to me that it was on the sidebar ^^; ). -Azaghal 20:03, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Real names instead of Servant Class?[edit source]

To sum it up, I've always wondered why, say, Medusa's article is "Rider (Fate/stay night)" aside from the fact that it was imported from Wikipedia. I know that as presented to the audience she is a Servant first and foremost, but this is a wiki, and we obviously include information beyond that. Why is she presented as a Servant first and Medusa in her 'past life' second, instead of Nasu's take/interpretation of Medusa (who once became a Servant)?

Again, the Servant names may be representative of these characters, but they certainly have/had lives beyond that. IMO it would be better to just have the, eg. "Rider" page have two sections/headings, each a short blurb on the summoned spirit, which links to the main 'character' article, which itself will have a "Servant Rider" section or something like that.

And in terms of editing, it would be a lot less hassle if one didn't need to refer to a specific Rider and instead just say "Medusa" (or use "Medusa#Servant Rider | Rider" as the link text if it is specifically relevant to her role as a Servant).

Tell me if this is just overexaggerated needless nitpicking. --CanonRap

No, constructive criticism is always appreciated :)
There was a short discussion about servant article names at Beast's Lair thread when this wiki was first made (in those first few days, all wiki-related discussion was held in that thread, and I was just a minor user). My proposal to use "Caster (5th Grail War)" instead of "Caster (Fate/stay night)" didn't go through and we just copied Wikipedia convention.
Now, I'm against using true names as article titles, simply because all characters refer to Servants by their classes (Gilgamesh being a notable exception, which is reflected by his article name). Shirou never calls Saber Arturia, not even during ero scenes or smut moments, and class names are always used as proper names in-game (again, with exception of Gilgamesh).
As a side note, you CAN use Medusa and Iskander, as they are both redirects to respective articles. Medusa#Role works as it should too. If you find a Servant's true name not linking, that just means nobody added a redirect, so please add a redirect page (like this one) yourself. -Azaghal 16:06, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
Well, the direct link thing is actually secondary, I just want to see characters use their real names instead of Servant classes. I know it's not actually that big an issue (or an issue at all, actually...) and just a personal peeve... ah well. --CanonRap

2010[edit source]

Quality[edit source]

Now, please understand that I don't mean this in any rude way. I also have no experience beyond watching one episode of Fate-stay, so there may be very good reasons for this.

Most of the articles here are written with the quality of a mechanical translator (ex. Type Saturn), and it is hard to tell when information is from the anime or from mythology (ex. Gilgamesh).

If the policy for articles is to write them as translations of some official Japanese data book, then that's reasonable, but if not, the articles should be written in a style that makes them clear to the uninitiated - i.e., you should be able to read the article to a friend and have them understand the basics. For an example, take a look at this article for a Devil May Cry character, and compare it to Type Saturn or Mercury.

I would also suggest the use of this nihongo template as a replacement for your wiki's current method of pasting Japanese text.

Again, I'm sorry if this sounds offensive or patronizing. If you like the advice, please use it, if not, then don't. Have a good day!Glorious CHAOS! 01:40, January 25, 2010 (UTC)

A number of articles were direct translations of official info books, yes. I (Byakko, not Azaghal, just taking off from your question, I'm not answering for Azaghal) translated a bunch of them myself with explicit mentions of where the info was coming from, and then other people copy-pasted info from a site held by another person that had direct translations of the same info books, and I believe a third and fourth person has been trying to add more direct translations of some well recognized fansite directly based on more info books. All of these info books were written in that manner ("mechanical" writing) so yes, that's normal. ... And then other people messed with the translations, didn't put any reference to what book or what game or what novel each piece was a translation of, and so on, and it went down the gutter with no reference anywhere save for some specific articles. --Byakko 13:59, January 25, 2010 (UTC)
Byakko said most of the important stuff, but just to address a few more of your points:
-We have our own Template:Nihongo that's identical to the one from DMC Wiki (both were copied from Wikipedia original), and we are trying to use it as much as possible. The problem is, a large portion of articles was copied from other sources, so we have a mashup of formatting styles that we weren't able to even out yet.
-In the Gilgamesh article there's no border between character info and mythology because they are both true. FS/N Gilgamesh is THE Gilgamesh and all the myths about him are true. Out-of-universe mythology is explicitly marked as such as in the case of Caliburn.
-What you called "mechanical" translation came from the need to keep as much as the original ambiguity as possible. Whenever somebody tried to rewrite an article to make it more readable, it lead to endless discussions, edits wars and whatnot. We try too keep things as closer to original as possible, and leave the interpretation to fans. Blame Nasu for doing the same thing in every TM encyclopedia, interview or supplementary material ever.
-Constructive criticsm is always welcomed :) --Azaghal 00:26, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Welcome[edit source]

I honestly didn't expect such a quick response to my edit. To be honest, I just signed up to ask a question about the source of a certain statement in the Magus article, since I don't like being labeled as 'unregistered contributor'. Yeah, just a tic of mine. I've been lurking around and reading articles for the past month and a half, as part of my job of doing research into Nasuverse information. Well, um, I guess I should say hi, then. ^.^ -- Norfür 02:05, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, I see. ^.^; Well, I'm kinda embarrassed that I mistook an automated welcome for an actual one. Still, getting a live welcome message makes up for it. XD Thanks for that verification, by the way. I just needed to know, because it was part of my project. ~.~ -- Norfür 09:12, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the link to the talk. page. haha I noticed it didn't indicate that it was from the Artbook awhile back and it confused me before I knew it was part of it, although I didn't know how to make a link yet haha.

Reguarding the Whole Warynn issue[edit source]

If it was false then I'm sorry. I just heard from a friends who went to Japan five months ago, about this cool Sequal to Fate/stay night called Fate/twilight oblivion and the Warynn Dynasty was going to appear as a new family of magus and that the character Shawn Warynn was going to be the new male lead protagonist and that he will be at odds with Shirou Emiya and his friends. I also Hear that this Shawn character might be made in to a blood related reletive of Shirou.--- From (Chronicler V) 11:11pm 26 june 2010 (UTC)

But once again I'm very very SORRY, because it could still just be a rumour. I Just thought about updating the wiki about some simple info.

No problem then. The thing is, you're like the fifth person who tried to add that info, and it's getting annoying (last 4 got ip blocked). I have no idea where it started from (my guess is some fanfic or something), but it has nothing to do with Nasuverse (Google says Warynn Dynasty is from World of Warcraft, ffs). Just don't add any unconfirmed or info again. Oh and btw, it was Byakko who left that message on your talk page, not me, he was just too enraged to sign himself :P --Azaghal 15:47, June 26, 2010 (UTC)

That's interesting, I never heard about a Fate sequel myself. I was in Tokyo last Janurary, and the biggest/only news on the street was and still is Fate/Extra, even in that volume of Type Moon Ace. Who knows though, although I wouldn't have written it down as encyclopedic information, it's still pretty cool to think. In my eyes you only wanted to share info. haha --Bargadiel 16:22, June 26, 2010

I just realized I forgot to sign my edit in your talk page, Chronicler, sorry about the misunderstanding. But yes, this thing is bull and it's been very annoying as someone has been trying to add that several times. I was in Tokyo as well in may (small world), but even without being there, there has never been such a thing in Type-Moon. As interesting as a fanfic like that may be, it's a fanfic and should certainly not be put in a canon Wikia like this. And it's definitely not something like a rumor either, it's just plain troll (for the record, Nasu confirmed in some interview that Shirou's real family before the fire was nobody special, not even mages), you've been trolled by your friend and someone has been trying to troll this Wikia for a while. Sorry about being aggressive if it wasn't you.
"I never heard about a Fate sequel myself" => You've never heard of Fate/hollow ataraxia and Fate/Zero ? :o
"Google says Warynn Dynasty is from World of Warcraft, ffs" => that's Wrynn, apparently. But that's close enough, whoever made that fanfic up probably took a page of that book. --Byakko 16:09, June 26, 2010 (UTC)

(...)

OK, Chronicler V, seeing you also started posting this on Bykko's talk page, let me quote myself : "don't add any unconfirmed or info again", because that wall of text you wrote is a fanfic and part of it were obviously written on the spot, judging by the lack of spellchecking. So I'll remove it all from here (wasn't planning to, but it's volume got out of hand). Don't post fanfics again, even on talk pages. What was written here can be seen in this revision. --Azaghal 13:11, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

As you can see on the school days wiki, wikia admins are targetting Wikis for closure simply because the visual novels have sex scenes involving underage characters, even though the wiki itself doesn't detail this.

Since Emiya Shiro is in year 10 (around 15 years old) and has intercourse with Saber, this concern is valid to Fate/stay and Type Moon wikia. How can this be stopped? We don't actually depict it or anything so I'm not sure what the problem is. +y@talk 01:53, February 19, 2012 (UTC)
