The Waxing Moon Ritual (盈月の儀, Eigetsu no Gi?) is a Subcategory Holy Grail War described in Fate/Samurai Remnant, with a facsimile of it also occuring during the Grand Orders.
History[]
The Waxing Moon Ritual takes place in Edo in the year 1651,[1] in the World of Fate/Samurai Remnant, a world designated for culling.[2] Several centuries prior Abe-no-Seimei had learned about the Holy Grail War with his ability to see the future, and recorded information about it in what appears to have been a convoluted prank at his descendants' expense. Seimei's descendant Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro used these records to create his own weak Holy Grail, the Waxing Moon which could only summon one Servant. Summoning Caster, Tsuchimikado then used Caster's aid to modify the Waxing Moon until it could summon multiple Servants.[2]
Within the Edo Singularity manifested upon the world in Fate/Grand Order, the Count instigates a never-ending Waxing Moon Ritual in which there are no human Masters.
Procedure[]
It is a ritual that is classified as a Subcategory Holy Grail War.[citation needed] Seven Masters and Servants fight over the Waxing Moon, which can grant any wish.[1] Eight Masterless Stray Servants have also appeared and can be persuaded to join a Master's side,[3] resulting in 15 Servants in total.
Unlike other Holy Grail Wars, the Waxing Moon Ritual places particular emphasis on control of territory. There are many Spirit Fonts connected by Ley Lines across Edo, which the Masters fight for control over to enhance themselves and their Servants. These Spirit Fonts also serve as anchors to Stray Servants in lieu of a Master. The Stray Servants are each linked to a certain Spirit Font, and while leaving these areas is possible, being away from them for an extended period of time will cause the Servant to weaken and eventually disappear entirely.
The Overseer of the Waxing Moon Ritual is Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro, who is also the Master of Caster.[4] Furthermore, Gilgamesh was summoned to arbitrate the war as Ruler, although he neglects his duties as the ritual does not interest him.
The Illusory Waxing Moon Ritual was superficially similar to the original, but possessed some key differences. The first was that only the "Masters" who died in the original ritual were able to compete in it; however, they were themselves Heroic Spirits and Phantoms and merely acted as Masters. The only true Master in the ritual was Ritsuka Fujimaru, who had arrived to correct the anomaly it was producing. The second was that the Waxing Moon could never be filled; instead, it would simply summon more Servants as existing ones were eliminated, corrupting the Ley Lines and channeling power to the true Waxing Moon- a Fantasy Tree. The Tree would then forcibly awaken Yui Shoushetu's secret Noble Phantasm, which would replace humanity with copies of herself in accordance to Mori Soiken's design.
