- This article refers to a species. For other characters referred to as witches, see Witch (disambiguation).
WitchesWP (魔女, Majo?) are Witchcraft practitioners and a type of supernatural being tied to the First Magic.
Not everyone who uses Witchcraft Magecraft is a part of the Witch species. For example, Ayaka Sajyou, Misaya Reiroukan, and Haruri Borzak are not.
Characteristics[]
Witches are the "rejects" of the World of Magecraft. For the Mage's Association, female Magi are not categorized as Witches; rather, "Witches" are inhuman beings. They are supernatural beings involved in the establishment of the First Magic, and also the founders of the Department of Botany in the Clock Tower. However, Witches are no longer involved with the Mage's Association. One after another, with the development of civilization, those women changed their forms and way of being. There are those who returned to the earth, those who returned to the past, and those who joined the First. For Magi, those changes are akin to miracles and held in awe.[1]
On the other hand, there are also Witches who immersed themselves in Human society and became "human". These fallen Witches receive neither reverence nor pity. No matter what Magecraft they possess or how much Mystery they hold, no Magus will acknowledge these fallen Witches as people. An "unsightly reject" is the fate that awaits Witches who survived until the present day as humans.[1] Witches are Fairies, they do not have children. Beryl Gut's mother said that she was her own mother.[1] A Witch who falls in love with a human is considered "dead", because it dilutes their blood and rots the Soul.[1] The exception to this is the descendants of Yumina,[1] though Alice Kuonji's mother is still said to have "broken the rules" when she married a human and had Alice.[2]
Beryl states that Witches from Proper Human History had the ability to transform into others, albeit with conditions.[3] The only ones who could do something along the lines of Morgan's Water Mirror are the Witches left in the dust by the ages.[4]
There is a sect of Witches living in the deep forests of England that have been there since before the Clock Tower was founded.[5]
Apparently, the Secret Autopsy Division's Composite Workshop Criegula also once made Witch’s tools or something.[6]

The department responsible for creating the tools used in the excavation and exploration of Albion. Unlike most Workshops, because they must mass produce the same items over and over, a number of magi’s Workshops have been combined to create the “Composite Workshop Criegula.” Apparently, this Criegula also once made witch’s tools or something.
In addition, this division is also responsible for actually progressing research into Albion. Since the disappearance of the criminal Gazamy at the end of the last century, Albion has continued to undergo extreme changes, working this department down to the bone.
- ↑ 7.0 7.1 Mahoutsukai no Yoru - Extra: Anyone Can Sleep, But Not Laugh
