The World of Fate/EX (EXTRA世界, Ekusutora Sekai?)[1] is the world line in which the Fate/EX series takes place, centering around the existence of the Moon Cell.

The world of Fate/EX shares the same events at that of Fate/stay night up until a certain point until a "certain major incident" in the 1970s that caused the world's mana to start drying up causes it to split off into its own separate universe. As of the 2030s, the world's mana was completely gone.[1][2]

In 1970, a ritual performed in a certain city in England sets off the depletion of the Earth's Magical Energy filling its atmosphere, its mana.[1][3] The details are unclear,[4] only that the ritual, called Overcount 1999,[5] happened earlier than it should have.[6] According to Twice H. Pieceman, the planet's soul, its core, was hurt, resulting in the power for life to go on being removed from the World.[7][5]
A consequence of the Mana Depletion is that it resulted in a movement in the Earth's crustWP of planetary proportions that caused a pole shiftWP, an event later called the Great Collapse (大崩壊, Daihōkai?).[3] Due to the Great Collapse, the Earth's natural resources ran dry and ran out, resulting in reduction of industrial production, and many countries went bankrupt and collapsed.[8][9][10] Oil was mostly exhausted and its use became regulated, resulting in the oil countries in the Middle East to lose the power they once held.[8] In addition to that, outbreaks of natural disasters and biohazards occurred in great numbers.[8][9][10]
Among the countries affected, the United States of America became a failed state and a lawless land. Certain persons of interest fled to South America and planned to reorganize, but were met with opposition from the indigenuous South Americans and driven into a corner. The various Asian countries are constantly engaged in skirmishes over resources, as are the Middle Eastern countries.[11] Julius B. Harwey speaks of a "Great War" but no further details are given. What is known is that what followed it were regional conflicts where, instead of armies, attacks in ever greater numbers are being carried out by terrorists.[12] In 1999, a horrible infectuous neurological disease broke out in a city located in the Far East,[13] the Amnesia Syndrome (アムネジア・シンドローム, Amunejia Shindorōmu?).[14] Based on the available evidence, the cause of the outbreak was a biological weapon created by terrorists. According to records made available to the public, the death toll was set at 5,000 people, but it actually was at 8,200.[13] With this disaster, Japan fell into anarchy and became a ruined country.[11] The societal system, along with most cities, got destroyed and people started scattering all over the wasteland.[15] The Western European Plutocracy provided aid to those looking to leave Japan as refugees once it became a failed state,[11] to the point that someone like Kazuhito Sakagami, born of two Japanese parents after the collapse of the Japanese state, never once set foot there.[16]
This global catastrophe results in a massive loss of life.[17] By the year 2000, humanity's population had been reduced to two thirds of its original size,[8][9][10] and by 2030, the earth's population has decreased to about half of the real world's population.[11]
All these events precipitates the rise of the Western European Plutocracy, led by the Harwey family. At a very early stage, they predicted that the world's resources would run dry and gained control of the Arctic as a solution, where a new energy source was found and could be mined. Due to this advantage, they quickly became owners of 30% of the world's lands,[18] and 60% of the world's wealth based on GDP.[19] The Western European Plutocracy did not become a dictatorship despite its unprecedented power, but instead declared to all that it would manage and distribute the remaining resources to ensure the survival of mankind, as they helped not only Europe but everyone around the world.[8] It made strict resource utilization agreements and formed alliances with 48 (originally 45) developed countries, creating the North Earth Resource Organization (北半球資源機構, Kitahankyū Shigen Kikō?) (NERO) in 2015, with its main goals being to strictly limit the excavation and utilization of earthly and lunar resources. Since most of the countries in the Northern Hemisphere had joined it, this meant all resource excavation activities on Earth would be under its control and the member countries would de facto be governed by the Western European Plutocracy.[20] Under the direction of the West Europe Plutocracy, cities around the world created an ideal system of city management known as Farm (ファーム, Fāmu?)[21] or Firm (ファーム, Fāmu?)[22] which eliminated most poverty and strife, with the Plutocracy ushering in a new era of city-nations and striving to promote universal acceptance of refugees regardless of race.[8]
The Plutocracy also put a freeze on all technology, especially aerospace industry and space-related technology development.[8][23][20] The Harwey family has always restricted new technology as they believe that technical progress is unnecessary.[24] Proclaiming "Mankind has no need for further technological advancement in this area," the Plutocracy aimed to refine and regulate the management of society.[8] Despite there being a slow trickle of advancement and new technology, no genius talent has appeared with a breakthrough.[23] There are cell phones and smartphones,[11] and there are even more advanced technologies such as cryonicsWP,[13] cloning,[25] and nanotechnology to cure diseases,[26] but by and large new discoveries, scientific breakthroughs, even space travel have all come to a standstill.[17] Quantum computing notably was halted, replace by cloud computing.
In opposition to the Western European Plutocracy rose the Resistance, based in the Middle East.
In 1973, the Moon Cell was discovered, after which everyone tried to claim it as their own and so the Harweys put a stop to any attempt at landing on the moon.[24]

On the surface it is a calm and gentle world,
But it is in fact a world that is facing its final curtain call.
Starting with the Great Collapse (the pole shift) that occurred in 1970, human civilization declined due to a sudden lack of resources, coupled with the reduction of industrial production, a continuous stream of nations faced bankruptcy and failure.
Compounded with the effects of the Great Collapse, numerous biohazard zones caused by natural disasters appeared, and by the year 2000 the population of the Earth was only two-thirds of what it once was.

The result: advanced technology became focused in the western part of the Eurasian continent. Alongside its management of cities, the Plutocracy also put a freeze on all space-related technology development.
Proclaiming, “Mankind has no need for further technological advancement in this area.” the Plutocracy aimed to refine and regulate the management of society.
Meanwhile hostilities between West Europe and Islam intensified, and there was endless conflict.
Islamic countries blamed their downfall on the “machine-like management of cities and resources” and prepared to relentlessly fight back against the factions of West Europe.
However, the Islamic countries were losing their identity as nations, and were unable to continue fighting back properly, so they were resigned to just using guerrilla warfare. It is said that the Islamic resistance will be driven back and defeated in about 5 years.世界情勢【事柄】

Its directly-controlled territory of Western Europe is stable by means of a completely controlled society, and the aristocracy has come back into existence. In comparison, America has become a failed state and is quite frankly a lawless land. Certain persons of interest fled to South America and planned to reorganize, but were met with opposition from the South Americans and have been driven into a corner. The Middle East was still plagued by internal strife, and was unprepared for the seizure of Jerusalem by the West European Zaibatsu, throwing it into terrible panic. It was thought that the seizure of the religious foundation would lead to all-out war, but the Middle-Eastern countries no longer had the power to retake Jerusalem, and it was all they could do to unite to hold back the West European Zaibatsu's expansion at the borders.
Archer: I see. So those are the circumstances in which Tohsaka Rin is helping the resistance in the Middle East.
Sakura: Yes. By the way, Tohsaka-san's home ground is fairly close to the Atlas Institute where Rani-san lives.
Saber: What of Asia, where my Maestro's home ground presumably lies? To what extent is the influence of the West European Zaibatsu?
Sakura: The various Asian countries are constantly engaged in skirmishes over resources. Starting with a disaster at the end of the 20th century, Japan fell into anarchy and became a ruined country. The West European Zaibatsu, which extols management of human rights, apparently provides aid to those looking to leave Japan. Since resources are everything in this world, the Chinese considered it pointless to conquer a resourceless island country and left it alone, but the West European Zaibatsu considers human resources important too, and see Japanese people as a good resource, so they want to preserve their education level. Among them, Kishinami-san is... ah, no, this is a spoiler, so let's talk about this once the story has progressed a bit more.
Caster: You mentioned resources, but the world is at war, right? In that case, can people really leisurely play games and such? Actually, how far has technology progressed? Wouldn't science and technology change as a result of war?
Sakura: The technology, apart from space development technology having drastically halted, is about the same level as the real world. There are cell phones and smartphones as normal, and as evidenced by how Shinji-san is known as an online game champion, regions controlled by the West European Zaibatsu have a complete infrastructure set in place. However, the earth's population has decreased to about half of the real world's population. This is due to the war as well as the West European Zaibatsu controlling even the birth rate.

Amnesia Syndrome is an infectious disease identified in the 21st century.
It is a virus that violates nerves in the brain. Those infected with this disease gradually lose awareness of the boundary line between themselves and other people. Ultimately they lose all awareness of their memories and it ends their lives.
A large number of people have been infected, yet it still remains unclear how infection occurs. According to one theory the infection spreads through the collective unconsciousness of the people.

The economic organization headed by Harwey.
Harwey is effectively the king on Earth in EXTRA.
At a very early stage Harwey predicted that the world’s resources would run dry, and developed an unsuitably large fear of what might happen. He came up with the solution of carefully managing the north pole, and gave his undivided attention to it.
The foundation of his organization had a lot of religious power, and it’s speculated that the Holy Church helped him out because a huge amount of financial resources soon gathered under Harvey.
The defacto leader of the Holy Church in the world of EXTRA, Cardinal Laurentis, does have a good relationship with Harwey.西欧財閥【組織】

This is the city management system implemented by the West Europe Plutocracy.
It created a utopia without conflict.
Or possibly a dystopia that has reduced the self-awareness of the people.
In this harmonious city system the ruling class and worker class are clearly separated, and even if you are part of the ruling class your future is precisely managed.
There is no racial discrimination, and treatment only differs based on actual ability.
There is no stipulation that all humans are made equal, and it is deemed enough as long as people are equal within their group.
This amounts to extreme racial discrimination, but this is one possible version of a perfect society.
The West Europe Plutocracy subjugates any hostile forces on their mission to push forward and unify the planet under this system that they think is ideal.ファーム【事柄】

"Velber" is the name of the predatory Umbral Star, also known as the Harvest Star. Like a comet, it flies on a set orbit through space, passing through the Milky Way galaxy once every 14,000 Earth years.
Its appearance resembles a crying eye.
It destroys all intelligent civilizations in its path, and in doing so, it consumes all digital data within reach.
The last time it passed through Earth's orbit, it annihilated virtually all sentient life on the planet, and plundered 80% of the Moon Cell's data.
It is thought to be a product of the same alien civilization that created the Moon Cell, although its form and purpose are obviously very different.
The true motive of the Umbral Star remains unclear, but during its previous attack on Earth, the Moon Cell did get a chance to analyze its structure.
Within Velber is a central part that could be considered its core, surrounded by layers of armor made of numerous "Arks of the Stars," individual space vessels.
If one considers the main body of Velber to be its central core, the surrounding portions are its self-made invasion weapons. Each layer of armor has its own distinct means of annihilating civilizations.
Velber's form strikes an optimal balance between offense and defense, and it has utilized that balance to wage victorious war against all sentient life in its path for eons.
The Ark of the Stars that carried the "White Titan" Altera to Earth was only one of three Arks that came to Earth in the previous cycle.
The other two, the "Big Brother" and "Little Sister" of Altera, are not mentioned in this game.ヴェルバー【事柄】
捕食遊星。収穫の星（ハーヴェストスター）。一万四千年周期で天の川銀河に現れる葺星。
その姿は「涙する目」のように見える。
通過の際、知的生命体の文明を破壊する。
地球にも一度通過しており、その時はムーンセルの八割のデータを破壊していった。
ムーンセルを作った異星文明人たちが残した、違うタイプの観測装置だと言われている。
その目的はいまだ判明していないが、構造自体は渦去の捕食の際、ムーンセルに解析されている。
ヴェルバーには中心核とも言える遊星部分があり、その周囲を複数の星舟が覆っている。星舟を重ねて作ったアーマーを着こんでいる……とイメージすると分かりやすい。
中心にある核をヴェルバーの本体だとすると、その周囲を囲む遊星部分はヴェルバーによって作られた様々な侵略兵器――――様々な侵略方法（文明）を持つ複合星舟装甲と言える。
この姿こそ、様々な文明を捕食してきたヴェルバーによる自衛・侵略の最適解なのだろう。
「白い巨神」であるアルテラは一万四千年前に太陽系に落ちた三つの星舟の一つにすぎない。
残り二つ、アルテラにとっての「兄」と「妹」と呼べるものは本作では語られない。
