Identity[edit | edit source]
Xuanzang Sanzang, also known as Sanzang Fashi (三藏法師, Sanzō Hōshi?), was a Buddhist priest of the Tang Dynasty in 7th Century AD. Travelling through the Silk Road in search of the original Buddhist scriptures, it resulted in Xuanzang heading to India from Central Asia, before bringing back to China from there sutras amounting up to 657 items and becoming the founder of the Chinese Faxiang Buddhist sect.
Journey to the West[edit | edit source]
Xuanzang is also known as a key character in the Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. Receiving a command from Guanyin, this beautiful monk, while riding Bai Long (Yulong) – the son of the Dragon King of the West Sea that transformed into a white horse – had Qitian Dasheng (Great Sage Equal to Heaven) Sun Wukong (Sun Xingzhe), Tianpeng Yuanshuai (Marshal Canopy) Zhu Bajie (Zhu Wuneng) and Juanlian Dajiang (Curtain-Lifting General) Sha Wujing (Sha Heshang) as her disciples, and she headed for India without ever losing heart in the face of the many monsters obstructing her path.
In “Journey to the West”, it is said that Xuanzang lived in the heavens originally as Jin Chanzi (金蝉子, Konzenshi?, lit. "Golden Cicada"), a disciple of Shakyamuni, but she fell into secular life because of a “certain incident” being the impetus. In other words, Xuanzang Sanzang is the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi. (It is because of this that the Demon King and the monsters are enticed by and tried to eat Xuanzang’s flesh again and again during the story of “Journey to the West”. If one eats Xuanzang, one gets to acquire a tremendous power associated with eternal youth.)
Xuanzang Sanzang had a Prophecy of Future Enlightenment and became the Buddha of Glorious Sandalwood, so she is originally not a being that can respond to a person’s summoning, even with the one done by Chaldea’s system. Materializing and being successfully summoned at this time is only because of these exceptional circumstances. That alone, the phenomenon called the Incineration of the Human Order, must be perceived as an extremely serious threat.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Personality[edit | edit source]
« I'll never drink the waters of the Zimu River again! »
A bundle of curiosity. Xuanzang loves adventure! A figure brimming with the spirit of inquiry towards the unknown with an unwavering self-confidence. Although gracefully silent as a beautiful and faithful monk, her spirit overflowing for a desire to challenge herself decorates her facial expressions, and it truly does not conceal her nature of having an unyielding spirit. “As long as there are the chirpings of adorable songbirds that signals the morning’s rise, and the guidance, compassion and divine protection of the honorable Buddha, my journey will not be hindered by anybody and everybody!”
Xuanzang is confident in herself————or so it looks like with an open glance of her. As a matter of fact, the reason she is confident is in regard to the sacred Buddhism religion, so she does not believe even a little about herself as a great person and the likes. She is also not self-aware of herself as a talented student. Although she remembers only a faint bit concerning her experience of being kicked out of the heavens for having deceived Master Tathagata in the spur of the moment in the heavens, the root of her is humble given that it is permeated with the depths of her memories.
Xuanzang appears strict, but her nature is gentle. Especially to the weak, she is earnestly kind, and if a person is troubled, she will not forsake them. Because she is not thoughtless, she is extremely positive thinking oriented since she has a belief that is unshakeable, called “being rewarded for persevering three times the hardship.” Taking into consideration that she is never mistaken regarding the “Way of Man”, she often becomes lost during her travels. And because she gets lonely when she becomes lost, she cries before long.
Xuanzang recognizes the Master as a “disciple”. Frankly, she is strict to her companion that she deemed as a “disciple”. Although, given that she expects a growth from them that progresses down the tough path of a “Buddhist disciple” sufficient to the point that they will receive the same reward like other disciples, when it sometimes come to it, Miss Tsundere Teacher here will be gentle either way.
Xuanzang is a rather upbeat person, often times looking on the bright side, cracking jokes, and she speaks in a way full of energy. She wears her faith like a badge, mentioning the Buddha countless times, thanking and praising him. She even gives offers to have others become a Buddhist. As soon as she becomes close to her Master, she immediately takes them on as a disciple, trying to teach them in the ways of Buddhism. Despite being so cheerful, she sees herself as an idiot who is prone to mistakes, but because of her faith, she believes that despite that, all are given guidance equally.
It is stated that she and Sun Wukong are very close, to the point Xuanzang often mentions him. This close relationship almost borders on reliance as she often wonders how affairs may go without him by her side. She's stated to miss him, but clearly gets flustered over the topic. This reliance doesn't just extend to Sun Wukong as she has stated the only thing she dislikes is being alone, though she quickly tries to change the topic.
Xuanzang has no wish for the Holy Grail because she believes a disciple of Buddha has no need of such a thing.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
|The Enlightened One||"There is always the Shakyamuni Buddha’s divine protection. Therefore, everything’s alright!"|
|Sun Wukong||"If you have time to come here, first add to your body a resourceful ability to find yourself a bride!"|
|Tawara Touta||"It’s Touta… hey, wait! It’s not good if you are not training diligently!"|
|Nezha||"What? Lies. You, you are not Prince Nezha!"|
|Li Shuwen||"You handle an excellent spear! I wonder if you can teach me your moves… eh? You want me to teach you? Gone?"|
|Asterios||"You… hmmm. Good good, you look okay."|

Fate/Grand Order[edit | edit source]
Sanzang of the Stars Goes to Tianzhu[edit | edit source]
Sanzang finds Ritsuka unconscious stuck between rocks. After regaining consciousness, Ritsuka asks her where they are. She answers they're at the border between the Tang Empire's realm and Gaochang at the foot of the Five Elements Mountain. Believing Buddha brought them together, she introduces herself to Ritsuka, and they do the same. Sanzang gets them out of the rocks, and reintroduces herself as a proper monk following Buddha's path. She explains she is currently on a journey to the far western land, Tianzhu, under the decree of the emperor of the Tang Dynasty. Though unable to remember what her mission is exactly, she remembers she's collecting scriptures on her way to Tianzhu. Unfortunately, the demon she subdued to be her guide ran away, and her horse got eaten. She has been lost for several days before finding Ritsuka. Ritsuka tells her about the Incineration of Humanity and Singularities. Sanzang finds it grandoise and hard to believe, but believes Ritsuka nonetheless as she thinks its's Buddha's guidance. She asks Ritsuka if they have a way to contact Chaldea, so they can return, but realizes it's pointless if they don't know their coordinates. She then asks Ritsuka to be disciple, which they accept. She remembers she experienced the journey to Tianzhu before, but is unable to remember the specifics. She believes her meeting with Ritsuka is a challenge from Buddha to send them back to Chaldea. Sanzang and Ritsuka then begin their journey west.
Later in a desert, Sanzang remembers she had three disciples, and asks Ritsuka if they know about them. She is confident she'll find them, but is curious why none of them aren't around. She then tells Ritsuka not to stray from Buddha's teachings, warning the journey to Tianzhu is fraught with danger from demons. She finds it would be reassuring if they had one of her disciples with them when she and Ritsuka hear a pig squealing. The pair find the source of the noise to be Zhu Bajie (played by David) stuck under a rock. After Sanzang rescues him, he properly introduces himself, and tells her another fit to be a disciple is stuck under a rock. She saves him, and he introduces himself as Li Shuwen, who takes the role of Sha Wujing. The group find themselves surrounded by monsters, which Bajie and Wujing encountered before. After killing the monsters, the group agree they need a horse. Sanzang declares the Tartars are known for breeding great horses when Ritsuka mentions seeing what they thought was a red horse. The horse turns out to be Lu Bu playing the role of the White Dragon Horse. Due to his frightening disposition, Sanzang refuses use him as a horse. Ritsuka hands her a scripture that White Dragon Horse was protecting, which gains her trust. Riding on White Dragon Horse's shoulders, she learns from him that the scripture was held by monsters, and there must be more. After reading the scripture, Sanzang declares to her disciples that'll collect the scriptures on their way to Tianzhu.
As the group continue their journey, Sanzang is dismayed they haven't found an oasis yet. Asked by Wujing, she recalls dismissing her disciples for a reason yet unknown to her. She then gets hungry, refusing to eat a monster like Wujing suggested. Ritsuka says White Dragon Horse found a cave up ahead. Before entering, Sanzang ask Ritsuka who Mash is, as they were calling her name when they were stuck the rock, asking if she's important to them. She smells the scent of fruit in the cave, so she figures it's a food storage. As she prepares to eat a peach though, White Dragon Horse stops her saying it's a trap. The group are suddenly confronted by Golden Horned King and Sliver Horned King (played by Stheno and Euryale respectively), who welcome them to their cave, the Lotus Cave. Realizing it's a trap, the group prepare to fight when the kings call upon Bronze Horn (played by Medusa). Sanzang tells Wujing not to be fooled by their tricks when his will to fight falters upon seeing Bronze Horn, whom he thinks should be saved. The group then force Golden Horn and Sliver Horn to retreat. Afterwards, they eat themselves full with the food in the cave, and takes its treasures. Sanzang lets Bronze Horn go, seeing that she relinquished her evil ways, She also decides to write her a letter of recommendation to the librarian at Daci'en Temple. After Bronze Horn leaves grateful to her, Sanzang thanks her disciples for their hard work. The group continue onward to Tianzhu.
Finally out of the desert, Sanzang finds the area the group is in now to be familiar. She says they'll need to avoid enemy bases from now, knowing the locations of nearly all of them. The group are then suddenly confronted by Red Boy (played by Mordred), whose come to stop their journey. Sanzang asks her why she stands in their way when she reformed and surrendered herself to Bodhisattva. Red Boy answers her father, Ox-Demon King, will praise her if she returns with their heads. Sanzang finds her attitude to inspirational, and prepares to fight her, saying she can reform afterwards. After being defeated, Red Boy hands Sanzang a scripture. Sanzang stops her from leaving, realizing she isn't going in the direction of either the Fire Cloud Cave or the Sky Scraping Cave. She tells her to go home if she wishes to see her father so much, but Red Boy refuses because her mother, Princess Iron Fan, terrifies her.
Later, the group come to the Flaming Mountains. Wujing warns Sanzang of a nearby presence, but she suspected they'd be pursed by demons. Entering the mountains to lose their pursuer, Sanzang tells her disciples they need to cross the Flaming Mountains to get to Tianzhu. She is able freely walk on fire thanks to piling merits during her journey. She claims the fire was once a leaping flame from the Eight Trigrams Furnace in heaven. She further claims it'll die if walked through, believing it to be a trial from Buddha. After psyching herself up, she walks through the fire, but the heat and smoke suffocate her. Saved by White Dragon Horse, Sanzang states she would have been burned if she wasn't wearing the Tathagata's kasaya. She then declares the mountains not to be the Flaming Mountains she knows. Suddenly, as Mash finally connects with Ritsuka, the group are attacked by the demons that were pursuing them. After the demons are slain, the mountains is shot by Helena Blavatsky, which Sanzang calls a part of Buddha's unwavering will. She gets upset upon learning Wujing and Bajie were travelling with her half-heartedly for the opportunity to fight strong opponents. Ritsuka tells her the scriptures are the key to the journey as Romani Archaman told them when a spear-wielding woman appears. She tells them the Flaming Mountains are a test. Sanzang finds her familiar yet cannot remember. The woman tells her said memory is inside the scripture she possesses. She calls Sanzang a woman, once pure and holy, now despicable and mediocre with no sense of self-sacrifice, and bereft of tolerance and benevolence. Thus, she claims Sanzang is no longer fit as Qitian Dasheng's master, which shocks Sanzang. After the woman leaves, Bajie asks Sanzang if she knew her, but she is unable remember clearly. Wujing identifies the woman as Nezha, which causes Sanzang to remember they need the Banana Leaf Fan, Princess Iron Fan's Noble Phantasm, to cross the Flaming Mountains.
Leaving the mountains, the group go to the Banana Leaf Cave, to get Princess Iron Fan's Banana Leaf Fan. Sanzang is confident they'll be able to covince Princess Iron Fan since they didn't kill her son. However upon meeting and asking Princess Iron Fan (played by Florence Nightingale) for her fan, they're immediately rejected since there are no reports of illness around the Flaming Mountains. The group are forced to fight her when she accuses them of spreading disease, and threatens to cook Bajie. After defeating her, the group return to the mountains with the Banana Leaf Fan. Sanzang is concerned that it looks like a certain holy sword though. Calling it Excalibanana Leaf Fan, she extinguishes the flames, and the group cross the mountains.
Later, the group meet the Ox-Demon King (played by Artoria Alter. Sanzang apologizes to her for stealing the Banana Leaf Fan from her wife. Upon returning the fan, she is given the scripture the Ox-Demon King possessed as a sign of her gratitude. The Ox-Demon King then shows the other scripture Nezha gave her when she visited her castle earlier. She claims she was given a mission by Budhha, who sealed Sanzang's memory of the realization of the transient nature of the five desires into the scriptures. The fives desires are the attachment arising from contact with the bodily senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The Ox-Demon King says the sixth scripture is meaning, the attachment of the heart. She claims Sanzang's journey will end if she takes it as she'll recover her lost enlightenment. Sanzang however denies her journey ends here, saying she needs to travel farther to reach Tianzhu. The Ox-Demon King angrily declares to her that ending her journey now is Buddha's mercy. Sanzang asks what will happen to her disciples. The Ox-Demon King answers they'll continue to Tianzhu, which will return them to their world. She tells Sanzang that she also has a place to return to, which Sanzang misinterprets as her house in Chang'an. She still wants to continue her journey, saying she hasn't accomplished anything. While appreciating the scriptures in her possession, she isn't ready to recite them correctly. In response, the Ox-Demon King declares it doesn't matter who recites the scriptures, and decides to use force to make Sanzang realize that. Recognizing the upcoming battle is hers, Sanzang tells her disciples not to help her as she think it'll incite Buddha's wrath and prevent their return to their world. Her disciples however declare they'll stay and help her fight the Ox-Demon King. After being defeated, the Ox-Demon King confesses she complied with Budhha in exchange for him removing Princes Iron Fan's disinfectant ware. She then warns Sanzang that she won't have Buddha's protection. Sanzang doesn't mind though, claiming it's what makes journey a journey.
The group come to River Ganges, and they see Arjuna and Karna at its shores. Nezha arrives and explains they're Underworld guardian. Sanzang knew Nezha would come, and she realizes Arjuna and Karna embody her fear of going to the outside world. She remembers Chaldea tried to summon her as a Servant, but she refused, believing she reached enlightenment and abandoned all earthly desires. Saying Buddha would see the Incineration of Humanity as just another ripple of existence, Sanzang realizes her failed summoning was because of her selfishness as a "human being". She confesses she doesn't to leave her disciples anymore, nor does she want to die alone anymore. However, even if alone, she would still continue her journey. Preparing for her final trial, Sanzang rejects Nezha's assistance as she recognizes Nezha is Buddha's messenger sent to help her perceive him. After Nezha leaves, she wonders about the possibility of summoning her as a Servant. The group then fight Arjuna and Karna. After they're defeated, Sanzang sees Ritsuka can rayshift back to Chaldea now. She confirms Wujing's suspicious that she'll stay behind and set off on another journey, and thanks him for his advice. Calling him Li Shuwen, she tells him that his mastery of the spear was equal to the Wujing she knew. She tells him further that his levelheadedness kept her from crying during the journey. After Li Shuwen disappears, she tells David that she's looking forwarding to his party when they meet again. She admires that he faced every dilemma with a light heart, without panicking or getting discourage. Realizing she can't be like that, Sanzang tells David that she'll remind herself of him when she's in trouble. After he disappears, she agrees with whatever Lu Bu is saying as he shakes her hand, even though she can't understand him. She tells him he was great to ride, and she'll have a saddle ready for next time before he disappears. Lastly, She tells Ritsuka that if she ever regains Buddha's guidance and manifests as a Servant in the future, she'll take them as her disciple again. Because of that, she won't say goodbye instead she'll recite a blissful sutra so Ritsuka will have perfect health before they're rayshifted back to Chaldea.
Camelot: The Sacred Round Table Realm[edit | edit source]
Sanzang is summoned into the Singularity six months before Chaldea's arrival. Crossing Ozymandias's desert, she met Tawara Touta, declaring him to be her disciple. They eventually reached the Holy City of Camelot, where they live for two months. They left though when Sanzang decided to continue her journey despite enjoying the place, being escorted by the Knights of the Lion King. However, Touta was captured before a fort by Lancelot and his forces after Sanzang decided to pick a fight with the knights.
While searching for Touta, she gets lost, and she is attacked by monsters. Ritsuka's party save her, and she introduces herself. She tells them how she summoned half a year ago, and how she lived in Camelot for two months as an honored guest. She also them about how Touta got captured, and how she got lost trying to look for him. She joins the group after Ritsuka agrees to help save Touta, declaring Ritsuka to be her disciple. Arriving at the fort where Touta and Hassan of Serenity are being held, the group decide to break in before Agravain returns to torture the Hassan again for information. Hundred Faced Hassan uses Zabaniya: Delusional Illusion to distract the guards, while the others sneak into the dungeon.
Inside the dungeon, Sanzang mistakenly believes Hassan of the Cursed Arm to be Arsene Lupin due to how easily he snuck in. He corrects her, saying breaking into a fort is a basic skill for a Hassan. Sanzang starts to believe Touta was executed until Mash finds a hidden passageway with cells; one holding Touta. After being broken out, Touta introduces himself at Sanzang's behest. He says he was protecting Sanzang, though she insists he was escorting her. She reminds him that he is her disciple, saying disciples are meant to protect their mentors. Touta reminds however that she was the one who picked a fight with the knights at the fort. He tried looking for her, which is when he was captured was Lancelot. Sanzang rides on his shoulders while he guides them to where Serenity is. They find her chained to a wall of the torture chamber by Agravain’s Iron Punishment. Ritsuka undoes her chains since they have an adverse effect on Servants. Agravain soon arrives, and repeatedly sends knights towards the group. He asks Sanzang if Goddess Rhongomyniad is wrong, but she isn't able to answer right away. He then offers her a seat at the Round Table to replace the now gone Gareth. Sanzang admits she conflicted on who to side with: Goddess Rhongomyniad, Ozymandias, or the Saracens. While she thought Camelot was nice, she cannot agree with the tactics used by the Knights of the Round Table. Agravain replies the Saracen refugees are free to choose to seek santuary in Camelot, and the forces of Camelot will stop warring with them if they give up on the Holy Land. Sanzang then asks why there is an "end" at the other side of the desert, which is why she returned. She then asks what Goddess Rhongomyniad is trying to accomplish, and if she even is a Heroic Spirit anymore after losing her human heart long ago. Agravain doesn't answer her, instead sending special knights modeled after the enraged Lancelot. After the group kill the knights, Serenity activates Zabaniya: Delusional Poison Body, forcing Agravain to retreat. With the knights knocked out by the poison, the group escape the fort.
Returning to the Western Mountain Village, everyone has a feast at night thanks to Touta's Inexhaustible Bale. Sanzang makes Rice Balls for the children using her palm strikes. She also makes Arash her disciple, designating him to be Bajie like she designated Touta to be Wukong. The next morning, the group realize they're seriously outmatched in terms of power and numbers. Their solders number 7000, while Camelot have 10,000 soldiers who each equal three Saracen soldiers. The Knights of the Round are greater than three Servants with their Gifts. Hundred-Faced realizes they need more soldiers, and they need to kill the Knights of the Round. The group recognize they need someone to fight Gawain since their assault on Camelot will always fail as long as he's at the front gate. Sanzang suggests recruiting Lancelot after Bedivere mentioned him as the only knight who could possibly match Gawain in a fight. Touta however puts that idea down, and conks Sanzang on the head for thinking they could easily turn a Knight of the Round traitor. Serenity suggests going to the Shrine of Azrael to ask for the First Hassan, whose location she was tortured for. Cursed Arm agrees with the idea and tells the others to return to the eastern village. There he will show them the secrets of the Hassan sect.
As the group travel back to the eastern village, Hundred Faced parts ways with them to gather more troops. Two days later, they return to the village, and leave for the Shrine after resting some. As they near the shrine, they decide to rest for the night. Sanzang is writing down what transpired before she goes to bed when Mash starts speaking with her. She finds Chaldea's Servant summoning system to be incredible, as summoning Heroic Spirits without distortions like the Singularities is normally impossible. Mash tells her that up until the Grand Order, Chaldea repeatedly failed in summoning Heroic Spirits. They only suceeded in summoning three, the second of which lent their strength to Mash. Sanzang tells Mash that Heroic Spirits find being summoned as Servants to be an miracle itself. Because of it is an emphemral existence, Some Heroic Spirits follow the principles they lived by in life, while others try to erase their own regrets. Sanzang doesn't find either path to be evil, as the Heroic Spirits are simply behaving according to their alignment. She does find it cruel to be summoned as Servants since their temporary existences always considered to be outsiders. Mash then asks her why she went such lengths to reach Tianzhu, as Journey to the West never mentioned her motivations. Sanzang answers it was to receive Buddha's scriptures, gain a reputation for herself, retire, and live out her days peacefully in Leiyin Temple. She then confesses that is only partially true, and truthfully she doesn't know when to quit. Normally she is a cowardly, selfish crybaby, but she'll readily obey if the voice of the Buddha tells her to do something, which Wukong once told it was her inner voice. She does whatever she genuinely belives to be right thing to do, suspecting Mash is the same way. Mash then asks her why she joined the group. Sanzang confesses she doesn't dislike Goddess Rhongomyniad, and she interested fighting against Camelot nor Ozymandias. Nitocris barred her from seeing Ozymandias, but she was able to see how his kingdom was run like a strict yet peaceful dictatorship. Sanzang finds Goddess Rhongomyniad and Ozymandias are the same in that they both strive to protect their own people. She wasn't to able take a stance though due to understanding both sides' wrongdoings until she met Ritsuka and Mash. She wishes to join Chaldea after the era is restored. She then goes to sleep after Mash.
The group enter the Shrine after defeating its ghost guardians. Hassan agrees to help against the Lion King, but he decides to punish the group for entering the Shrine. He'll forgive their transgression if they pass his trial. He then takes control of Serenity to fight the group as part of the trial, which they pass. Hassan agrees to aid against the Lion King once the group learned the truth of the Lion King, Ozymandias, and the Incineration of Humanity. He directs them to the Atlas Institute in the desert, as to where they can learn all these answers.
The group return to the eastern village, only to find it besieged by forces led by Tristan and Lancelot. Sanzang, Touta, and Bedivere go to resuce the villagers at Cursed Arm's behest. She, Touta, and Cursed Arm eventually arrive to help Ritsuka, Mash, Serenity, and Bedivere against Tristan. However, they all bear witness as the Lion King's spear, Rhongomyniad, destroys the western village. Tristan then leaves, warning Rhongomyniad will strike the eastern village in five minutes. While the others evacuate, Arash successfully counters Rhongomyniad with Stella.
The following day, the village holds a funeral for those lost, including Arash. Cursed Arm reveals Hundred-Faced evacuated the majority of the western village before it was destroyed. He implores Ritsuka to head for the Atlas Institute before Camelot attacks the village again. In the meantime, he and the other Hassans will gather their forces for the assault on Camelot, and spread word of Ritsuka to the other Saracens. He agrees with Romani to rendezvous in the village for final confirmation on the assault once Ritsuka returns. Ritsuka, Mash, Bedivere, Sanzang, and Touta then leave for the desert.
Using a map given to them by an agent of Hundred-Faced, the group search the desert for the Atlas Institute. Sanzang gets lost in the sandstorm, accidentally disturbing a sphinx nest. She is able to ward them off though when the others find her. She then points out where the sphinxes were, which Mash recalls Ozymanidas' divine beasts would mark the location of the Instiute. Sanzang guides them there when they're mmet by Lancelot and his knights, who were sent to capture them. The group fight, but they retreat when Lancelot proves too strong. A giant illusion of Nitocris then manifests, distracting the knights enough for the group to escape. The knights give chase, only for both parties to run into a sphinx nest. After slaying the sphinxes, the group enter the Institute via a pitfall fall. There they are met by Sherlock Holmes.
Sherlock leads the group to the central area, while they destroy any activated defenses. At the center, the group find a still functioning Tri-Hermes. Sherlock reveals it still functions because the Institute is from the present era. He then accesses its records to discover what happened in the Fuyuki Holy Grail War of 2004, considering it an important factor to the truth of the Incineration of Humanity. Neither the course of the war nor its conclusion are known, only its victor, Marisbilly Animusphere, being recorded. Sherlock reveals Romani was Marisbilly’s assistant during that time before joining Chaldea to become head of the medical division. He finds it strange there are no records of Romani before then. He considers the possibility of him being connected to the Incineration of Humanity. He then reveals Chaldea could stabilize their summoning system with the Round Table as it was a place where heroes. He further reveals it is the core of Mash’s shield, and the Heroic Spirit fused with her is Galahad. He then uses Tri-Hermes’s remaining power to learn about Rhongomyniad. Its true form is the Tower at the Ends of the World, while the lance is a terminal to access its Authority. The Lion King plans to use it to create an ideal world by gathering virtuous souls. According Tri-Hermes’ calculations, Rhongomyniad can hold 500 souls. Sherlock reveals it is Camelot’s true form, where the selected are sealed away. They’re gathered as ideal examples of humanity’s virtue, and they will be sealed forever once Camelot returns to its true form. Touta assumes Godeess Rhongomyniad's army will disappear along with the Tower, which Sanzang reluctantly agrees with him will stop the fighting between Camelot and the Saracens. Sherlock reveals however that upon the Tower’s completion, the Ends of the Worlds will consume the era. Sanzang realizes nothing exists beyond the desert is because the Singularity is already seperate from human history after Sherlock said it doesn't exist anywhere in the world. She agrees with Bedivere they need to invade Camelot before Rhongomyniad's completion, but she wonders why Hassan didn't tell them the truth in the first place. Touta assumes it was because Ritsuka needed to come to the Institue itself. The group then rush back to the surface.
Returning to the surface, the group are confronted by Lancelot and his knights. He is eventually convinced by them to join their fight against Goddess Rhongomyniad. He then escorts them for half a day to a secret refugee camp that serves as shelter for those unselected. The group also find Leonardo da Vinci alive there, as Lancelot had protected her back then. They also find Saruhan there, who Da Vinci had assist the refugees in fleeing from Camelot's front gate when Ritsuka and Mash visited it earlier. After Mash relays what they learned in the Institute, Da Vinci realizes Goddess Rhongomyniad intends to create an isolated space for the purest of humanity to continue existing following the Incineration of Humanity. Sanzang finds Goddess Rhongomyniad is wrong for taking people's choices away from them. She suspects the Knights of the Round accepted her idea at the cost of their own identity because they believed in the former Artoria Pendragon. She wonders why Artoria became Goddess Rhongomyniad, to which Lancelot reveals she was already like that when she summoned the Knights of the Round. Da Vinci reveals Artoria became so when she turned into a Divine Spirit by holding Rhongomyniad too long. Romani reveals the Lion King’s intention to create a world without humans would disrupt human history, even if Chaldea restores humanity. Lancelot suggests convincing Ozymandias to help when the group recognizes their forces aren't enough. Later, Ritsuka, Mash, Da Vinci Sanzang, Touta, Lancelot and his knights prepare to leave for the desert. On Da Vinci’s request, Bedivere goes to contact the Saracens. Lancelot orders the other knights to remain until Bedivere brings back word from the Saracens about their proposal to ally with Ozymandias. If the proposal is accepted, the knigths will move to the hidden valley near Camelot and stand by. Ritsuka’s group then depart for the desert in Da Vinci’s newly built vehicle, the Bastiyan.
Sanzang, Ritsuka, Mash, and Da Vinci ride in the Bastinyan while Touta and Lancelot and his troop follow on horseback. They eventually reach Ramesseum Tentyris. Da Vinci sends a messenger to Ozymandias, carrying a request for him to join him. In response, Ozymanidias sends out a group of sphinxies to test the group's strength. While Lancelot and his knights fight the sphinxes, the others enter the temple.
Upon entering the temple, Sanzang senses it is the same as Camelot. She suspects with it Ozymandias can achieve the same thing Goddess Rhongomyniad plans to do with Camelot. Nitocris confonts the group, and she fights them to see if they're worthy of an audience with Ozymandias. They defeat her, so she allows them to meet with Ozymandias. Sanzang calls him different from Goddess Rhongomyniad for prioritzing the lives of his people because that's the best way for a country to prosper. She reprimands him for abandoning that duty, and for isolating himself and his people because he cannot defeat Goddess Rhongomyniad. She becomes infuritated when Ozymandias says what happens to other people is none of his concern, saying he's the same as Goddess Rhongomyniad. She then demands he protect the world, which convinces Ozymandias to test the group's strength and resolve to save the world. He pours some of his own blood into the Grail and drinks it to incarnate himself into Amon. However, he grants the name Amun-Ra onto Amon, temporarily turning him into a Divine Spirit. The group fight him, but the temple supplies him with infinite magical energy, instantly regenerating any wounds they inflict. They defeat him though thanks to Sanzang unleashing her full power. Returning to normal, Ozymandias fights the group again with Nitocris to prove their worth as allies. After being defeated, he gives the Grail to Mash, and agrees to lend his sphinxes for the assault on Camelot.
Outside the temple, Lancelot tells Ozymandias to march his army to Camelot from the west four days from when the group arrives at the city at dawn. Ozymandias assures him that his army will arrive at the allotted time. He also sends his beast trainers with the group to further discuss the plan. Three days later, the group return to the eastern village. Serenity confirms they’ve gather 17, 000 followers. Hundred Faced says there are 2,000 people in Camelot secretly supporting their rebellion. The rebellion had difficulty growing at first, but it grew exponentially after Ritsuka and Mash saved the refugees from the Holy Punishment. Later, Cursed Arm reviews their strategy with Ritsuka. The group will join the forces positioned at the wasteland, then march towards Camelot. Lancelot offers to lead the army since he knows all the blind spots to avoid the patrol. However, there will be no blind spots once they reach Camelot’s territory. Cursed Arm continues they'll march onto Camelot during the night. The army will breakthrough the Lion King’s forces and force their way into the city. After they capture the city and its castle, Ritsuka’s group will kill Goddess Rhongomyniad. With discussions over, Ritsuka, Mash, and Bedivere prove their resolve to the Hassans through combat. Afterwards, everyone takes time to rest.
That night, Sanzang is found by Ritsuka humming to herself while writes in her journal. She proclaims it will be "Monk Sanzang's Tortuous Travels", the hundred volume set, stored in Chaldea. She then has Ritsuka sit next to her so they watch the view from the cliff with her. Ritsuka asks her about her hopes for tomorrow when she gets agitated by the silence. Sanzang confesses she decides to join the group because they were the easiest to understand. Since then she has decided to fight Goddess Rhongomyniad for her own principles. She tells Ritsuka that people aren't all equal, but they all have possibilities, so she won't approve a way of life that takes that away. She then bids Ritsuka good night, saying she'll make them her disciple when it's all over.
In the wastelands near Camelot, the group review their strategy once more when Romani reports the city is prepared for them. Ritsuka, Mash, Da Vinci, and Bedivere will head for the main gates with the infantry. Lancelot will lead his unit while Sanzang and Touta travel together. Once Cursed Arm reaches the castle wall, he’ll thin out the archers placed there by Agravain. Ozymandias’ sphinxes will create a diversion on the west side of Camelot, which the allied forces will use as an opportunity to attack. Lancelot’s knights will advanced before Ritsuka’s group, though Lancelot suspects heavy losses before they even reach the front gate. He orders the allied forces to advance when a sandstorm created by Hassan suddenly appears from the north to envelop Camelot. With the storm making both sides’ archers useless, the allied forces advance onto Camelot as fast as possible.
The allied forces soon become overwhelmed by Camelot's forces, unable to break through into the city. Sanzang tells Touta to move towards the wall near the front gate. As she prepares her Noble Phantasm, she confesses that she'll die as a result. After recalling meeting Ritsuka before, she uses her Noble Phantasm to destroy the front gate. Touta takes her to the west gate, and he vows to work in her stead. Understanding she already went to Tianzhu, Sanzang wishes to go to Chaldea. She wishes to take on new disciples and scriptures, and disappears thinking Buddha won't punish her having such a dream.

Abilities[edit | edit source]
Xuanzang makes use of mainly bare-handed techniques that appears to be taught by her teacher in the heavens. Also, she uses the weapons and techniques associated with Sun Wukong and her disciples (Sun Wukong's Ruyi Jingu Bang, Zhu Bajie's Nine-toothed Rake, and Sha Wujing's Monk's Spade) although the person herself is not aware of this situation. Dr. Roman expressed jokingly that it may not be known that the fragmented thoughts of her disciples’ worries for their great teacher lurks within her Saint Graph. She also wields a Khakkhara staff.
Class Skills[edit | edit source]
- Territory Creation (A+ Rank): Creates a “Workshop” that is an advantageous position to oneself as a magus. Because she possesses A Rank in this, it is possible to create a “Temple”, which is superior to a “Workshop”. (Strictly speaking, because the orientation of her school of magecraft is different, the position created by Xuanzang Sanzang is not designated as a “Workshop”. Also, it excels in timeliness in regards to its creation, so the practicability of creating a position immediately = a powerful Bounded Field.)
- Divinity (D Rank): Xuanzang, who is destined to eventually reach the Buddhahood of Candanaśrī, the Buddha of Glorious Sandalwood, is endowed with the Divinity Skill.
Personal Skills[edit | edit source]
- High-Speed Sutra Chanting (A Rank): The ability to speak magical incantations at an accelerated speed in regard to sutras. She is able to finish powerful Greater-Thaumaturgy incantations at the speed of a Single-Action spell.
- Bewitching Rosy Cheeks (A Rank): A natural beauty that greatly attracts demonic entities and evil spirits. The higher this Skill’s rank, the more likely one is going to drag those with demonic qualities. Additionally, if one has the Divinity Skill, it becomes even more likely for that one to be targeted.
- Teachings of Tripitaka (A Rank): It represents Xuanzang’s way of being that shows the way a Tripitaka Master ought to be. The Buddhist scriptures were promoted to be the “treasury” of Sanzang’s; with this, the Buddhist scriptures took the name of the three branches of Buddhist sutras. It demonstrates a person having knowledge in the three branches of Buddhist sutras, or in other words, being a Tripitaka Master.

Creation and Conception[edit | edit source]
Takeshi Okazaki is the character illustrator for Xuanzang. Takeshi said that the feminization of Xuanzang Sanzang was influenced by a drama masterpiece where Xuanzang was performed by Miss Masako Natsume, he ended up arguing and drafting up to 3 or 4 designs. Although there are some divine articles as well as even more young Chinese characters, in the end he understood why this pattern was chosen when playing the scenario. Takeshi aimed to draw a character that wanted to be preaching, he certainly did not know that she would be preaching physically.
In the Chinese server, she is named Pilgrim to the West (西行者?) due to certain government policies regarding the depiction of historical figures. She retains her original name in the Taiwanese server.

Five Elements Mountain – Shaka Nyorai Palm
Rank: B Type: Anti-Army~Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm Range: 0~40 Maximum Target: 1~100 people
Gogyōsan - Shiyakanyorai Shō.
Borrows a small portion of the power of Shakyamuni, who serves as the venerable Buddha and as her teacher (of a previous existence) in the heavens. The “edge of the world” that Sun Wukong once reached————that is, the very palm of a gigantic Shakyamuni, falls down from the skies and chastises the antagonists that shows contempt for Buddhism. An Anti-Army~Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm. The heel of the Enlightened One’s palm.
Prophecy of Future Enlightenment – Buddha of Sandalwood Merit
Rank: EX Type: Prophecy of Future Enlightenment Noble Phantasm Range: — Maximum Target: Herself
Kibetsu - Sendan Kudoku.
It is “Xuanzang Sanzang as a kind of Buddha in the future” as prophesized in the final stage of “Journey to the West”; in other words, a Noble Phantasm derived from the Buddha of Sandalwood Merit. The whole body of Xuanzang is wrapped in an aureole, and she temporarily attains a limited Buddha Mode. Although her offensive ability is not that much, she has high resilience by being able to repel most attacks, as well as repel mental interferences, push aside abnormal status attacks, and on top of that, apply a large recovery ability continuously around her own position. However, after using this, her entire Saint Graph will be destroyed and Xuanzang will disappear.
First Pronoun: atashi Second Pronoun: anata / anta / ** Third Pronoun: kare / kanojo / ano hito
A bundle of curiosity. She loves adventure!
She is confident in herself————or so it looks like with an open glance of her.
She appears strict, but her nature is gentle.
○Motivation · Attitude to the Master
She recognizes the Master as a “disciple”.
“I’m Xuanzang Sanzang! I came into this world so I can guide you to the honorable Buddha. Ummm, my Class is Caster!”
“You have the honorable Buddha’s divine protection. Everything’s certainly alright!”
“Evvverything is as Buddha has foreseen!”
“Good thing. Listen. I am not mistaken. When I make a mistake, it is because I am a moron who cannot be helped. But the honorable Buddha, he does not make mistakes. Because weak people, foolish people, people who changed their ways, they equally all guide us the way.”
“… Uuu, if only Goku was here, something like this…”
A Buddhist priest of the Tang Dynasty in 7th Century AD. Travelling through the Silk Road in search of the original Buddhist scriptures, it resulted in Xuanzang heading to India from Central Asia, before bringing back to China from there sutras amounting up to 657 items and becoming the founder of the Chinese Faxiang Buddhist sect.
She is also known as a key character in the Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. Receiving a command from Guanyin, this beautiful monk, while riding Bai Long (Yulong) – the son of the Dragon King of the West Sea that transformed into a white horse – had Qitiang Dasheng (Great Sage Equal to Heaven) Sun Wukong (Sun Xingzhe), Tianpeng Yuanshuai (Marshal Canopy) Zhu Bajie (Zhu Wuneng) and Juanlian Dajiang (Curtain-Lifting General) Sha Wujing (Sha Heshang) as her disciples, and she headed for India without ever losing heart in the face of the many monsters obstructing her path.
In “Journey to the West”, it is said that she lived in the heavens originally as Jin Chanzi (Golden Cicada), a disciple of Shakyamuni, but she fell into secular life because of a “certain incident” being the impetus.
Xuanzang Sanzang had a Prophecy of Future Enlightenment and became the Buddha of Sandalwood Merit, so she is originally not a being that can respond to a person’s summoning, even with the one done by Chaldea’s system. Materializing and being successfully summoned at this time is only because of these exceptional circumstances. That alone, the phenomenon called the Incineration of the Human Order, must be perceived as an extremely serious threat.
She makes use of mainly bare-handed techniques that appears to be taught by her teacher in the heavens. Also, she uses the weapons and techniques associated with Sun Wukong and her disciples, although the person herself is not aware of this situation. Dr. Roman expressed jokingly that it may not be known that the fragmented thoughts of her disciples’ worries for their great teacher lurks within her Saint Graph.

You handle an excellent spear! I wonder if you can teach me your moves… eh? You want me to teach you? Gone?
You… hmmm. Good good, you look okay.

Concerning the feminization of Xuanzang Sanzang, there is a drama masterpiece where Xuanzang was performed by Miss Masako Natsume, so it was difficult producing a character image and it resulted in us arguing back and forth, making me think up of 3 or 4 draft plans. Although there are some divine articles as well as even more young Chinese characters, the finish is as you see, and it was also when I drew this that I at last understood why this pattern was chosen when playing the scenario. Although I aimed to draw a character that wanted to be preaching, I certainly did not know that she would be preaching physically. (Takeshi Okazaki)
