Yamanami KeisukeWP (山南敬助WP?), Class Name Saber (セイバー, Seibā?), is a Saber-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
The Servant's True Name is Yamanami KeisukeWP. He was a founding member and vice commander and later secretary-general of the Shinsengumi, a public order organization that was mostly active in the Kyoto of the Edo period'sWP closing days.
Yamanami Keisuke was close friends with Okita Souji. He deserted the Shinsengumi for reasons that are still unknown by historians today, leaving Kyoto to return to Edo. Okita was the one who was assigned to capture him, and though she would have let him continue running, he agreed to return to Kyoto and face punishment. The punishment for desertion was seppuku, and Okita was at Yamanami's side when he died.[2]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Even as a part of the Shinsengumi, which possessed many hot-blooded members, Yamanami was known for his calm, gentle personality. He was regarded both inside and outside the organization as a man of learning who understood reason.[3] He always remains polite and prefers to solve anything by talking if possible. His kindness and warm-heartedness were admired, and there was a saying handed down in the Shinsengumi: “The kind ones are Yamanami and Matsubara.”[4] However, it was this kindhearted nature that caused him to be worn out by the corps’ infighting, which may have been the reason behind his desertion.
Despite his graceful appearance and gentle demeanor, his attack animations are quite bloody and ruthless, implying a more cold-blooded side of him that befits a member of the Shinsengumi.
Apparently regretful of his decisions in life, Yamanami has a low self-esteem, frequently referring to himself as incompetent or unreliable, and thinks of himself as both a coward and a traitor to the Shinsengumi. He seems to have accepted and acknowledged his past though, as seen through the fact that his Noble Phantasm - originally meant to casted away his entire Spirit Origin - was sublimated into an Anti-Army one.[5]
Relationships[]
- Okita Souji
- "Okita-kun? Ah, in my past life we used to play together with the kids at the temple's grounds. She didn't hold back even against children, but that's also just like Okita-kun. Speaking of which, even at the dojo she'd hit without holding back so I got beaten many times."[6]
- Hijikata Toshizou
- "Hijikata-kun is a friend who worked as a fellow Vice-Commander. Although I was entrusted to be the Secretary General later. …Um, as I expected the Shinsengumi's Vice-Commander is Hijikata-kun. He, he himself, is befitting."[6]
- “I was fond of playing as it was. Because for us, who didn't know when we'd die, that was the only thing we could call healing. Hijikata-kun and company played flashily despite their looks. Oops, this was a slip of the tongue. Please keep it a secret from him.”[6]
- Saitou Hajime
- "There are many things I'm like-minded with Saitō-kun. How to say it, we get along. He used to call me clumsy, but if I say so myself, he's the one who is quite clumsy."[6]
- “The master-servant relationship? If you're talking about the Shinsengumi, that would be the relation between the Commander and we the soldiers. The Commanders Kondo-san and Serizawa-san, both were righteous, and both were befitting. Therefore, that night I couldn't help but choosing… I don't want Master to go through those feelings.”[6]
- “About Serizawa-san... The Shinsengumi, and the Mibu Roshigumi that it began as, would never have come into being if not for Serizawa-san. Without question, he too was our commander. Our other one, you see.”[6]
- “Despite my looks, I studied Ono-ha Ittō-ryū, as well as Hokushin Ittō-ryū. At the dojo, I was confident in being able to use them, though. At Shieikan I encountered Kondō-san, and realized my ignorance. Not to mention, I cannot compare myself to Okita-kun or Saitō-kun.”[6]
- Itou Kashitarou
- Friend with a close bond
- Himiko / Iyo
- "With what face could I look at both of you? Please, allow me to apologize. I'm very sorry. What we, no, I did to your country, could never be forgiven. When everything is over, please judge me without any restraint."[6]

Due to an old injury, he sometimes has trouble using his arm, though he mentions that it is nothing compared to Okita’s tuberculosis.
