Yui ShousetsuWP (由井正雪?) is the Master of Rider in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Background[]
This version of Yui Shousetsu, from the World of Fate/Samurai Remnant, is completely different from the Yui Shousetsu in Proper Human History.[2]
An ardent fighter and a military scholar admired by many ronin. Shousetsu runs a military academy in Edo and decides to serve the shogunate before the Waxing Moon Ritual, though not without some reservations.[4] In the year 1651, Shousetsu plotted to overthrow the shogunate.[5]
Said to hail from the Suruga ProvinceWP, Yui Shousetsu served the shogunate as a military scholar. Though apparently over thirty years old, she could easily be mistaken for being under twenty. As her renown spread throughout Edo many ronin came to enroll in Choukou Hall, her academy in Kanda. Though Grandmaster Shousetsu is idolized by many students, there are those who are less than impressed.[3] Shousetsu's gender is a secret, as many people including her students refer to her as male. She disguises herself as a man for the sake of behaving like a samurai.[1]
The truth is that Yui Shousetsu is a homunculus created by Mori Souiken using Einzbern techniques, though she herself doesn't know who the Einzberns are. She is a high quality homunculus with all the usual traits of one: a short lifespan, high intelligence, excellent Magic Circuits, and an innocent mind.[2] Souiken's knowledge of alchemy was imperfect, so he needed a human woman to be the surrogate mother for creating Shousetsu. She is therefore more accurately described as a homunculus subspecies, or a pseudo-homunculus.[1] The true purpose that Souiken created her for was become a new humanity that would replace humans in his ideal vision of the world.[1][6]
After Souiken died in the Shimabara Rebellion Shousetsu was taken in by a samurai family, and eventually became a famed military scholar in Edo.[1]
Appearance[]
Yui is a young woman with long white hair tied in a ponytail along with blue eyes. She is overall androgynous in appearance, with her students believing her to be male.
Personality[]
Yui has a strict code of honor, such as refusing to kill Miyamoto Iori before Iori learned that he was a Master. Yui is also very polite, referring to everyone as "Lord" or "Lady".
Honest, transparent, pure, and genuine. She is well liked by children and animals, and disliked by people with ulterior motives. A military scholar, a master manipulator, she is cool-headed and disciplined to a fault but a good person at her core. She'll fret when she has to come up with an underhanded plan.[1]
Yui has inherited Mori Souiken's idealism, and pursues her own ideal to correct the "distortion" that is the world's cruelty.[2] Her wish for the Waxing Moon is to fix the world of its flaws, such as homelessness and poverty, and create a society where everyone is equal.
Without even realizing it, Yui becomes attracted to Iori over the course of the story. Iori's desire to live as a human reminds her of the stories that Mori told her about Amakusa Shirou Tokisada.[2]

Abilities[]
As a homunculus, Shousetsu has excellent Magic Circuits and is skilled at Magecraft. Due to the way Mori Souiken made her, most wounds inflicted to her regenerate very quickly, though it is possible to inflict long-lasting ones.
She was taught Western Magecraft by Souiken, and her specialty is elemental conversion. Despite her high quality Magic Circuits (albeit with an abnormal composition), she only views Magecraft as just another technique to use in combat. She doesn't have the mindset or objectives of a "true" Magus, and so other Magi may just call her a "Magecraft user".[1] In terms of talent as a Magus, Shousetsu is an even match for Dorothea Coyett.[7]
The true purpose that Mori Souiken made Shousetsu for was to replace humanity with her as his ideal form of "new humanity". As such, if Shousetsu is connected to a major source of Magical Energy like a Leyline or Holy Grail then she can create copies of herself. They spawn at a rate of about one per year (although Shousetsu's Servant version can multiply much faster than the living version).[1]
Shousetsu owns a sword crafted by Senji Muramasa.[5]
Development[]
Shousetsu was first mentioned in Fate/Grand Order material XII, in Senji Muramasa's profile.[5]
Creation and Conception[]
Yui Shousetsu was designed by Rei Wataru in Fate/Samurai Remnant. Her scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai.[2]
