Zhou YuWP (周瑜WP, Shū Yu?, Pinyin: Zhōu Yú), courtesy name Gongjin (公瑾, Pinyin: Gōngjīn), Class Name Archer (アーチャー, Āchā?), is the Archer-class Servant summoned by Zheng Chenggong in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Identity[]
A general from China's Eastern Han dynasty. The Servant Zhou Yu is a mix of both the historical person and the fictional version from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story, though his mind is based more on the historical one. As such, he feels like his Servant abilities associated with the Romance of the Three Kingdoms are a bit overpowered and given to him for no reason, though he doesn't reject them.[1]
He was a loyal vassal to the Sun family for three generations, and was notably close to his brother-in-law Sun Ce, the "Little Conqueror". At the Battle of Red CliffsWP Zhou Yu led the Sun forces to victory against Cao Cao's naval fleet. However he died young of illness and was unable to see the establishment of the Wu Empire.[2]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Archer is loyal, courageous, and fierce. He shows respect to his Master Zheng Chenggong and freely maneuvers his bow and arrow to help him in his battles.[3] He's extraordinarily compatible with Zheng Chenggong. The only way things could possibly be better for him is if he could drag along his original lords Sun Ce and Sun Quan.[1] Zheng summoned Zhou Yu without using a Catalyst; he was summoned by compatibility because they are so alike.[4]
His wish is to serve his lord and see their goal fulfilled, as he was unable to do so in life. Although he jokes that he'd wish to rewrite the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.[4]
Role[]
Fate/Samurai Remnant[]
Abilities[]
Zhou Yu isn't a Heroic Spirit known for his martial prowess,[6] but rather, as a famous general from the Records of the Three Kingdoms.[5] Even during 1651, Zhou Yu was a renowned Heroic Spirit in Japan despite being originary to China. Miyamoto Iori knew of his exploits as the strategist of Eastern Wu.[5] His true talents can be exploited when commanding skilled warriors like Miyamoto Musashi, since it allows him to work as the "brain" of the team, coming up with strategies that will give them an advantage over powerful opponents they couldn't defeat otherwise, as shown when they fought Samson.[6]
Combat[]
Zhou Yu natural weapon as an Archer is a red and gold shortbow with a pair of rubies on either side of the grip, firing arrows charged with fire and capable of delivering powerful explosive force. He is able to fire numerous arrows, in a rain, a barrage, or even jumping and firing a series of rows of fire arrows with each row moving farther outward from his position. Even a single well placed, charged arrow is enough to throw Samson through a structure. His capacity for empowering his arrows with fire and explosive force is not limited just to his arrows, as he is able to summon a spear and empower it in a similar manner and delivering an explosive blast against his opponents with a series of strikes from it.[citation needed]
Zhou Yu states that he is unable to sense Assassins like Koga Saburo using Presence Concealment.[5] Zheng Chenggong regards Koga Saburo as a dangerous Heroic Spirit, and claims that Zhou Yu and him were unable to take care of him alone. He says that Saburo's ability to control giant, venomous Phantom Snakes complicates things considerably, so even ordinary methods like Zhou's "rain of arrows" wouldn't be enough to take him down.[5]
Mind Controlled[]
In the climax of Chapter 3, Zhou Yu falls under Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's mind control and is tasked with fighting Yamato Takeru and Miyamoto Iori. Unlike most other Servants under Tsuchimikado's influence, Zhou is able to remain conscious and somewhat fight back against the Spell controlling him. Even in this weakened state, he is so powerful that Takeru warns Iori to approach the fight with the intent to kill. Anything less would cost him his life. Surprisingly, Zhou Yu is able to hold his own against the two of them for a while, until he eventualy invokes his Red Cliff Calamity - Cradle of Fire Reality Marble.[6]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (B Rank): Resistance to magecraft incantations under three lines. It would be difficult to break through even with greater magecraft or rituals.
- Riding (B+ Rank): The ability to ride mounts, excepting Phantasmal, Monstrous, and Divine Beasts. Power increases while on a ship (The + only applies on seacraft).
- Independent Action (B+ Rank): The ability to act without energy from a Master. At Rank B, materialization can be maintained for 2 days without a Master (Power increases while on a ship).
Personal Skills[]
- Talent to Assist the King (? Rank): An ability capable of summoning his former lords, Sun Ce and Sun Quan, when used to its maximum effectiveness. If his top-class power level wasn't enough, he can power up further with this Skill, making a figure that enemies want to avoid 1v1 combat against at all costs.[1]
Noble Phantasms[]
Zhou Yu's first Noble Phantasm is Fireship Afloat. The fire arrows and sky-faring louchuan warship that materialized from his legends are supposedly only a small fraction of the true power of his Noble Phantasm.[2][5]
Zhou Yu's second Noble Phantasm is Red Cliff Calamity - Cradle of Fire. While powered by one Command Spell, Zhou Yu was able to stop Samson's Delilah and greatly injure him.[6] However, even this was unable to do more than force him to retreat.[6][7] While weakened under the influence of Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's mind control, Zhou Yu was able to match Yamato Takeru and Miyamoto Iori on his own. In the end, Takeru resorts to using Special Technique - Eight-Current Raging Storm to block Zhou's arrow and destroy the Reality Marble. However, despite Zhou getting a direct hit to his Spiritual Core, it didn't kill him. The fight would have continued had Zhou not ended up killing himself with an arrow.[6]
Gameplay[]
Zhou Yu has 4 Affinity Skills he can use as a playable character.
- Allegiant Flame: Manifests his bow over his head, increasing it's size and destructive power, and fires an explosive arrow at the opponent.
- Bountiful Showers: Fills most of Noble Phantasm Gauge.
- Pointed Counsel: Summons a spear into his hands and performs a series of strikes that end in the opponent erupting in a flaming explosion.
- Raining Arrows: Calls down a rain of arrows on a targets surrounding area.
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Archer was designed by Shidzuki Morii[8] and illustrated by Rei Wataru in Fate/Samurai Remnant. His scenario writer is Yuuichirou Higashide.[1] He was specifically designed to look pretty, and to be younger than the usual public perception of Zhou Yu.[1] Design supervisor Takashi Takeuchi was surprised when he saw that Morii's design looked so young.[9]
Zhou Yu was chosen for Fate/Samurai Remnant because he is also featured in Koei Tecmo's Dynasty WarriorsWP series. The idea was to have someone who would make people think "This is a Koei game".[9]

The Servant summoned by Zheng Chenggong. True Name: Zhou Yu. Class: Archer.
A character plainly designed for the player to find pretty. Design-wise, the intention was to portray him as somewhat younger than the public's general image of Zhou Yu.
He's Zhou Yu's historical fact facet and his Romance of the Three Kingdoms facet melded into one, but his mind seems more grounded in the historical fact version. For that reason, he feels like his abilities associated with the Romance of the Three Kingdoms are OP powers granted to him for no discernible reason (but he doesn't reject them on any level).
He's extraordinarily compatible with his master Zheng Chenggong. The only way things could possibly be better for him is if he could drag along his original lords Sun Ce and Sun Quan.
And that's exactly what his Talent to Assist the King Skill does when used to its maximum effectiveness.
If his top-class power level wasn't enough, he can power up further with this Skill, making a figure that enemies want to avoid 1v1 combat against at all costs.

An Archer-class Servant who saved Miyamoto Iori and Saber at Koishikawa. As Iori had formed a pact to fight together with his Master, Zheng Chenggong, Archer revealed his true identity.
His True Name is Zhou Yu, the great general from the Later Han Dynasty. He was a loyal vassal to the Sun family for three generations and was notably close to his brother-in-law Sun Ce, known as the "Little Conqueror." At the Battle of Red Cliffs, Zhou Yu led Sun's forces to victory against Cao Cao's naval fleet. However, he died young of an illness, unable to see the establishment of the Wu Empire. The fire arrows and sky-faring louchuan warship that materialized from his legends are supposedly only a small fraction of the true power of his Noble Phantasm.
Wish of a Lord's Aide
He had only one wish for which to battle for the Waxing Moon to serve his lord, and this time lead him to victory. However, when questioned about his true wish, he is said to have exclaimed in response, "Perhaps to have the Romance of the Three Kingdoms rewritten."
A Final Smile
Losing control over his own mind due to a powerful spell, Archer turned his arrows against the people of Akasaka, Iori, Saber, and even his own Master, Zheng Chenggong. For Archer, those actions could never be forgiven. As such, he elected to destroy his own damaged Spirit Core. He encouraged his friend, who would go on living in the world of man, to accomplish his goals through his own strength.
